Opis:: The subject of the analysis is the paedagogical thought of the leading representatives of the new education movement in Poland and in the Ukraine. The timeless character of their reflection paedagogy was exemplified by the orphans’ home of Warsaw, Poland, and the School of Joy in Pavlysh, Ukraine, the organisational solutions, rules of (self-)education, the system of social and moral standards bound educators the same way as they did those under their care. The phenomenon of the radical, unique approaches to supporting children, which they created, is a challenge for coming generations. With this work, I also open up the debate and the need for further research concerning the origins and consequences of transgression of state borders by paedagogical thought that constantly changes its approach to humanist paidocentric paedagogy in a world, in which authoritarian, directive or instrumental paedagogy continues to have a strong presence. In this regard, I focus primarily on the similarity of thought between both these educators, indicating the differences in their approach to the child.

Opis:: The article is dedicated to the issue of developing skills and acquiring economic knowledge in early school-age children, in particular in the field of financial education. The concept of the innovative educational tool “I Think, Decide, Act-finances for the youngest” and the process of testing this didactic material for two and half years in grades 1–3 of primary schools in Poland were presented. The purpose of the above mentioned tool is to provide children with cognitive and social educational situations for independent and creative activity that requires solving economic, financial and social problems. The main research methods were a parallel group experiment and an interview with teachers. The results of studies comparing the level of knowledge and financial-mathematical skills of children in the pretest and post test indicate a statistically significant increase in the level in experimental group in comparison with the control one. The teachers’ opinions on the application of the innovative tool in school practice show its didactic and educational value, with a particular emphasis on the quality of proposed mathematical open-ended problems related to the practical context.

Opis:: The text describes the backstage of the legendary International Experimental Film Competition in Brussels, which accompanied the Expo-58 Exhibition at a turning point of the political thaw in Eastern and Central Europe. The most important representatives of avant-garde cinema and auteur animation of three generations took part in this event. The Grand Prix was awarded to The House of Walerian Borowczyk and Jan Lenica. The prize became the ticket to a European career for these two young filmmakers. The competition was also remembered as a symbolic beginning of the “Polish school of animation” (or the so-called “Polish school of experimental film”) on the global film market. The author of the article also writes about a difficult return to Poland, about a cash prize that caused many problems, about the successes of Polish films in Brussels, and about the reception of The House in Poland and abroad. Finally, he tries to demonstrate why this bleak and difficult to understand film, which builds opposition to the optimism of Expo Exhibitions, won the main prize, beating over 300 competitors from around the world.

Opis:: School experiments represent a necessary means of subject-matter presentation in chemistry education and are important for chemical (scientific) thinking. Despite being a focus of several texts, a complex view on the experimental activity in chemistry education in Czechia is missing. The results of a questionnaire survey among 466 lower-secondary, lyceum and grammar school teachers focused on types of conducted experiments, their frequency, the place they are conducted. The most frequently used chemicals and sources of inspiration are presented in the paper. The results show that despite experiments’ significant role in education, its occurrence is rather seldom and teacher’s demonstrations prevail over students’ experiments. The list of the most often used chemicals suggests the experiments are mostly focused on inorganic chemistry. These results open further questions regarding occupational safety at schools as an important factor which could also be the reason for such a low representation of experiments in Czech chemistry education.

Opis:: Like many other countries where the standard of living is rising, the Sultanate of Oman is facing a potentially serious increase in what are now termed ‘lifestyle’ diseases. These include diabetes, heart disease, hypertension and various forms of cancer. The lifestyle factors that contribute to these diseases are poor diet and limited exercise. A school gardening project being implemented in Oman is intended to improve educational outcomes across the curriculum in the short term but also dietary outcomes in the longer term. If successful the project will be expanded to a much larger number of schools in Oman. In a country that imports much of its fruit and vegetables there are also potential, long-term economic benefits in encouraging the local production of these food items. This article reports on the rationale behind this project and its overall conceptualization and design. The project is funded through the Oman Research Council.
Jak wiele innych krajów, w których zaobserwować można rosnący standard życia, Sułtanat Omanu stoi w obliczu potencjalnie poważnego wzrostu zjawiska określanego mianem chorób „stylu życia”. Zalicza się do nich między innymi cukrzycę, choroby układu krążenia, nadciśnienie i różne formy raka. Główne czynniki stylu życia powodujące problemy zdrowotne to nieodpowiednia dieta oraz brak ruchu. Projekt ogrodnictwa szkolnego wdrożony w Omanie zakłada poprawę wyników edukacji w całym programie nauczania w krótkim okresie, ale też efekty dotyczące sposobu żywienia w długim. Jeśli projekt zakończy się sukcesem, zostanie rozszerzony na znacznie większą liczbę szkół w Omanie. Co więcej, w kraju importującym znaczną część konsumowanych owoców i warzyw mogą pojawić się potencjalne długoterminowe korzyści ekonomiczne dzięki wspieraniu lokalnej produkcji tych produktów żywnościowych. Artykuł omawia przesłanki projektu, jego ogólną koncepcję oraz założenia. Projekt został sfinansowany przez Radę Naukową Omanu.

Opis:: The article describes the findings of the international research project “Science-Art-Education. An innovative model of diagnosis, methods, techniques of work with an artistically gifted learner” (the project co-financed by EU, October 2011 – September 2013). On completion of the project, the author carried out a three-year research (2015–2018) on the effectiveness of the model SAE (whose aim is to develop life skills in children) applied in twelve schools in southern Poland. The article presents the initial conclusions from the research on possible influence of the SAE model on development of the skill of cooperation and combating stress in difficult situations by young learners. One hundred and twenty six children from different backgrounds (big city, small town, village) took part in the experimental research. The research was carried out for a year on the SAE model in its form of primary school. The results bring optimistic data – there is a marked increase in development of strategies of cooperation accompanied by decrease of defence strategies, such as avoidance, submission, aggression, which negatively affect child’s further development.
Opisane w opracowaniu badania są pokłosiem międzynarodowego projektu badawczo-dydaktycznego „Nauka-Sztuka-Edukacja. Innowacyjny model diagnozy, metod, form pracy i opieki nad uczniem zdolnym plastycznie” (projekt współfinansowany przez UE, październik 2011 – wrzesień 2013). Autorka po zakończeniu projektu prowadziła trzyletnie badania (2015–2018) nad efektywnością modelu NSE (mającego służyć rozwojowi umiejętności życiowych dzieci) w 12 szkołach podstawowych Polski południowej. W niniejszym artykule autorka dzieli się pierwszymi wnioskami z badań, dotyczącymi możliwości wpływu modelu NSE na wzrost umiejętności współpracy dzieci w młodszym wieku szkolnym i pokonywania stresu w sytuacjach trudnych. W tym celu zostały omówione wyniki badań eksperymentalnych, w których uczestniczyło 126 dzieci z trzech środowisk (duże miasto, małe miasto, wieś) po roku realizacji modelu NSE w szkołach w klasie I szkoły podstawowej. Wyniki przynoszą optymistyczne dane, cieszy fakt wzrostu w grupach eksperymentalnych strategii współpracy przy obniżeniu strategii obronnych, niekorzystnych dla dalszego zdrowia psychicznego dzieci: uniku, ulegania, agresji.
