    Fuzzy logic is a useful tool when assessing the existing reinforced concrete structures. The introduction of expert system in assessing the technical condition of the existing structures built on the fuzzy logic represents a transition to a new and higher-quality level for the survey of constructions sites. As a result, it is seen that the assessment of the existing building with the usage of the proposed expert system complies with the estimation of the qualified experts.

    Opis:
    Many existing steel structures are exposed to degradation due to corrosion or fatigue and to increasing loads. Their reliability assessment is then needed. The key question is whether a particular structure can be preserved ‘as it is’, or needs to be strengthened, or whether it needs to be replaced. Unnecessary replacements of existing structures may be avoided and the remaining service life of existing steel structures may be authorized by: using advanced reliability verification techniques, optimizing target reliability, and obtaining data for a specific site or structure. In this contribution, the application of advanced reliability approaches is illustrated by the assessment of an existing steel structure. The case study demonstrates that such approaches may significantly improve assessment and allow to increase the load-bearing capacity of the structure (in the case under investigation by 10 to 20%). Improvements in reliability assessment are attributed to the use of an optimal target reliability level, case-specific statistical parameters and probabilistic distributions of the basic variables, and adjusted partial factors.

    The article presents reflections on the renovation of existing building structures, in particular buildings. Particular attention is paid on the durability of structures as an element of sustainable development is considered. The concept of sustainability in the limit state approach to the structural design is proposed. The durability should be treated and considered as a third limit state. Problems related to the use of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for the actual estimation of the environmental impact of existing buildings are also presented.

    Przez wiele stuleci istotnym wyznacznikiem polskiego krajobrazu była rezydencja i związany z nią sposób zagospodarowania terenów otaczających, co wynikało z właściwych dla minionych epok realiów społeczno-gospodarczych. Obecnie obiekty rezydencjonalne to grupa najbardziej zagrożonych zabytków. W poniższym artykule wskazano jakie są elementy charakterystyczne dla polskiego krajobrazu rezydencjonalnego, określono jaki jest obecny stan zachowania tej części polskiego dziedzictwa kulturowego, a także scharakteryzowano podstawowe zagrożenia dla opisywanego typu krajobrazu. We wnioskach wskazano na konieczność takiego ukierunkowania współczesnych działań w krajobrazie rezydencjonalnym, aby zachować dla przyszłych pokoleń jego charakterystyczne cechy.
    Through centuries the important determinant of Polish landscape was residence. It influenced the way of historic development of surrounding landscape. Its dominating role in the landscape was caused by the social and economic circumstances. Presently the historic residences belong to the most endangered group of monuments. In the following article the author pointed the typical features of Polish residential landscape, defined the state of preservation of this part of Polish heritage and discussed the main dangers to such type of landscape. It was stated in the conclusion of the article that the present investments in residential landscape should be conducted in the way guaranteeing saving its basic values for future generations.
