Opis:
In this study, the problem of an axially moving microbeam subjected to sinusoidal pulse heating and an external transverse excitation is solved. The generalized thermoelasticity theory with one relaxation time is used to solve this problem. An analytical technique based on the Laplace transform is used to calculate the vibration of deflection and the temperature. The inverse of Laplace transforms are computed numerically using Fourier expansion techniques. The effects of the pulse-width of thermal vibration, moving speed and the transverse excitation are studied and discussed on the lateral vibration, temperature, displacement and bending moment of the beam.

Opis:
Noise induced hearing loss (NIHL) as one of the major avoidable occupational related health issues has been studied for decades. To assess NIHL, the excitation pattern (EP) has been considered as one of the mechanisms to estimate the movements of the basilar membrane (BM) in the cochlea. In this study, two auditory filters, dual resonance nonlinear (DRNL) filter and rounded-exponential (ROEX) filter are applied to create two EPs, the velocity EP and the loudness EP respectively. Two noise hazard metrics are proposed based on two EPs to evaluate hazardous levels caused by different types of noise. Moreover Gaussian noise and single-tone noise are simulated to evaluate performances of the proposed EPs and the noise metrics. The results show that both EPs can reflect the responses of the BM to different types of noise. For Gaussian noise there is a frequency shift between the velocity EP and the loudness EP. The results suggest that both EPs can be used for assessment of NIHL.

Opis:
The transition of power grids to implement large amounts of nonsynchronous renewables reduces the inertia in the power system. Therefore, the rate of change of fre- quency (ROCOF) after a fault of given energy is higher in low inertia grids than in grids with mainly synchronous machines operating. Standard faults for the design of existing synchronous machines assume fixed frequency grids, in which an electrically close fault happens. It is not tested, if the machines can ride through transient disturbances with high ROCOF. For ROCOF values of up to 1 Hz/s as foreseen for the upcoming grid code of the Republic of Ireland and up to 2 Hz/s for Northern Ireland, a thorough verification, if generators are capable to ride through such events is necessary. For this study, ROCOF frequency traces provided by the transmission system operators (TSOs) of Ireland were first benchmarked with a full-grid model and in a second step impressed on a model of generators connected to the power grid via a step-up transformer to study transient stability and nonlinear response of the generator. This paper focusses on the ability of nine different synchronous machines to stay connected to the transmission system during severe ROCOF events without losing synchronism.

Opis:
A multifunctional device to transfer graphical or text information for blind or visually impaired is presented. The prototype using tactile perception has been designed where information displayed on the screen of electronic device (mobile phone, PC) is transferred by oscillating needle, touching the fingertip. Having the aim to define optimal parameters of the fingertip excitation by needle, the computational analysis of different excitation modes has been carried out. A 3D solid computational finite element model of the skin segment, comprising four main fingertip skin layers (stratum corneum, epidermis, dermis and hypodermis) was built by using ANSYS Workbench FEA software. Harmonic analysis of its stress–strain state under excitation with different frequency (up to 10000 Hz) and harmonic force (0.01 N), acting outer stratum corneum layer in normal direction at one, two or three points has been performed. The influence of the mode of dynamic loading of skin was evaluated (in terms of the tactile signal level) on the basis of the normal and shear elastic strain in dermis, where mechanoreceptors are placed. It is shown that the tactile perception of information, delivered by three vibrating pins, may be influenced by configuration of excitation points (their number and phase of loading) and the frequency of excitation.

Considering that correctly functioning of diesel ship engine depends on the composition of applied fuel, it is necessary to easy characterise fuels in terms of quality. Therefore taking into account above mentioned, appropriate analyses have been undertaken and the intention of this article is to inform that characterisation of fuel used in marine transport can be described by the specific parameter based on fluorescence excitation-emission spectroscopy. Therefore, for this study fuel typically used in ship engine – Diesel fuel – is considered. For analysis, Diesel fuel dissolved in n-hexane was used and several oil samples for various oil concentration were prepared. Spectrofluorometer Aqualog Horiba was used to record the excitation-emission spectra (EEMs). EEM spectra determined for each of oil concentration were described by two specific peaks for this kind of oil. Based on registered EEMs, the specific indicator - the wavelength-independent fluorescence maximum – coded in two specific wavelengths – excitation and emission, respectively, described as Exmax/Emmax was determined for considered oil concentration. Obtained results indicate the independence from oil concentration only for one detected peak described by Exmax/Emmax = 240/332. Taking into account obtained results, we can conclude that the wavelength-independent fluorescence maximum detected for excitation wavelength at 240 nm corresponds to the emission wavelength at 332 nm due to the independence from the oil concentration, could be a good indicator to characterise this kind of oil – Diesel fuel. We can conclude that the changes in the composition of fuel could be detected in EEM spectra by the change of detected peaks position.

The main task for natural marine environment protection is to prevent the inflow of various contaminants including oil substances and the real challenge is the ability to rapidly detect these pollutants. Moreover important is to find the source or the maker of the oil spill. In this paper, we consider fundamental physical aspects in the area of possibility of monitoring the natural marine ecosystem based on fluorescence spectroscopy. We utilize the fluorescence ability of numerous oil components – mainly polycyclic hydrocarbons. The paper concerns the spectrofluorimetric characterization of oils have been in use during exploitation of the marine fleet, i.e. lubricate oil, fuels, transformer and hydraulic oils as well as crude oils or their residues. Every kind of oil has a chance to enter the marine environment, especially in a case of ship emergency or after collision with other vessel ore shoreline structure as well as when ship enters the stranding. After discharge of oil, some of oil components are dissolved in the water, bacteria or photochemical reactions, which results in transformation of composition of oil, degrade some. Fluorescence spectrometer Perkin Elmer LS55 was applied to obtain the fluorescence spectra using different excitation wavelength in the range from 240 nm to 500 nm. We discuss the changes of the shapes of excitationemission spectra (EEMs) of various types of oil and the EEMs spectra after contact of oil with seawater as an oil-inwater emulsion, which is the most frequent form of oil in the water column. Significant changes in the shape of spectra and displacement of the peaks are observed.

Due to the fact that marine environment contamination by oil substances are not uncommon, it is necessary to improve the ability of determine their origin. Therefore, research on the possibility of recognizing the type of oil using its individual characteristic manifested in the processes of fluorescence excitation has been undertaken. Oil pollutants present in seawater mainly coming from ship drives, tankers, pipelines or sea bottom seeps, moreover oil leaks from offshore extraction equipment also are possible. For this reason, the crude oil extracted from the Baltic Sea deposit in the Polish Maritime Areas has been chosen for tests. Fluorescence properties of water containing small amounts of oil (concentrations from 5.59 to 55.4 ppm) in the form of oil-in-water emulsion were tested. Individual samples were assigned matrices of fluorescent values for different wavelengths, while excited by monochromatic light also for different wavelengths. The obtained matrices were visualized as a contour maps and 3D charts. For considered concentrations of crude oil dispersed in water, the wavelength-independent fluorescence maximum was determined. Obtained result indicates that in the studied wavelength range, the total fluorescence intensity is proportional to the oil concentration only for the lowest oil concentrations. The analysis of the objective parameter of the difference between the shapes of spectra indicates the similarity of the spectral shape for the lowest oil concentrations. These results are the methodological suggestion, that for the purpose of identifying the type of oil dispersed in water, spectra should be determined for sequences of different dilutions, until the excitation-emission spectra shapes become independent from the oil concentration.

W artykule opisane są wstępne analizy zmian zupełnych widm fluorescencji (EEMs) dla różnych stężeń wybranego oleju smarnego. Do pomiaru EEMs oleju użyto dwóch form oleju – świeżego i przepracowanego w silniku okrętowym w czasie 593 h.

This paper presents a procedure for identifying wave forms and excitation frequencies of some forces applied on a given complex fluid-structure coupled system by using only its vibro-acoustic response. The considered concept is called the Independent Component Analysis (ICA) which is based on the Blind Source Separation (BSS). In this work, the ICA method is exploited in order to determine the excitation force applied to a thin-film laminated double glazing system enclosing a thin fluid cavity and limited by an elastic joint. The dynamic response of the studied fluid-structure coupled system is determined by finite element discretization and minimization of the homogenized energy functional of the coupled problem. This response will serve as the input for the ICA algorithm in order to extract the applied excitation.

The article presents some results of research on a prototype model of Electric Controlled Permanent Magnet Excited Synchronous Machine (ECPSM). In this construction, the additional coil allows to adjust the flux of permanent magnets, adding a degree of freedom to control the machine. In this way, more torque at low motor speeds and increased max speed can be achieved, without the conventional (lowering the efficiency of the drive system) techniques of weakning the field. Control algorithms of vector field orientation (FOC) were used in the research, which was implemented in a microprocessor controller. Modern DSP microcontroller was used for this purpose, which is a part of a dedicated test bench, allowing a comprehensive analysis of the machine.
W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań nad modelem prototypowym maszyny elektrycznej z magnesami trwałymi o regulowanym wzbudzeniu (ECPSM). W przedstawionej konstrukcji, dodatkowa cewka umożliwia regulację strumienia magnesów trwałych, dodając pewien stopień swobody sterowania maszyny. Dzięki temu, osiągnąć można większy moment obrotowy w zakresie niskich prędkości obrotowych oraz zwiększenie prędkości maksymalnej, bez użycia tradycyjnych (obniżających sprawność układu napędowego) technik osłabiania pola. W badaniach wykorzystano algorytmy sterowania z wektorową orientację pola (FOC - Field Oriented Control), które zaimplementowano w autorskim sterowniku mikroprocesorowym. Wykorzystano w tym celu nowoczesny mikrokontroler DSP, będący częścią dedykowanego stanowiska pomiarowego, umożliwiającego kompleksową analizę pracy maszyny.
