This paper illustrates a methodological approach to the design of an annotated corpus using a case study of phonetic convergences and divergences by multilingual speakers in southwestern Senegal’s Casamance region. The newly compiled corpus contains approximately 183,000 annotations of multilingual, spoken data, gathered by eight researchers over a ten year span using methods ranging from structured lexical elicitation in controlled contexts to naturally occurring, multilingual conversations. The area from which the data were collected consists of three villages and their primary languages, and yet many more contribute to the linguistic landscape. Detailed metadata inform analyses of variation, the context in which a speech act took place and between whom, the speakers’ linguistic repertoires, trajectories, and social networks, as well as the larger language context. A potential path for convergence or divergence that emerged during data collection and in building and searching the corpus is the crossroads in the phonetic production of word-initial velar plosives. Word-initial [k] emerges in one language where only [ɡ] is present in the other; the third utilizes both. The corpus design makes it feasible, not only to identify areas of accommodation, but to grasp the context, enabling a sociolinguistically informed analysis of the speakers’ linguistic behavior.

У статті констатується, що Велика Британія протягом багатьох століть була найбільшою імперією в світі. Завдяки синхронному та діахронному підходам виявлено подекуди часову симультанність розвитку Британської імперії у різних частинах світу, яка втім виступала у різних формах її правління (колонії, домініони, підмандатні території тощо), і у різному ставленні до них імперського Лондона. Вона пройшла еволюцію від Першої Британської імперії, яка розвивалася за рахунок торгівлі рабами, до Другої імперії, коли вона колонізувала одну з найбільших держав світу – Індію та інші країни Сходу, до третьої Британської імперії, коли її колонії поширилися на всі куточки Земної кулі. Нарешті, четверта Британська Імперія – це умовне позначення розпадуколоніальної системи. Показано, як визвольні рухи, починаючи з Індії і закінчуючи Африкою, підірвали колишню могутність Британської імперії, яка з низки окреслених у статті причин немогла її втримати. Утворення незалежної держави Велика Британія, вільної від колоній не призвело до втрати імперського духу, який виявляється в практичних справах – організації Британської співдружності націй (British Commonwealth of Nations), яка згодом була перейменована на Співдружність (Commonwealth), Брекзіт і таке інше. Зроблено висновок, що Велика Британія намагається посісти місце глобальної держави в світі.
In the article, it is stated that Great Britain had been the biggest empire in the world in the course of many centuries. Due to synchronic and diachronic approaches it was detected time simultaneousness of the British Empire’s development in the different parts of the world. Different forms of its ruling (colonies, dominions, other territories under her auspice) manifested this phenomenon.The British Empire went through evolution from the First British Empire which was developed on the count mostly of the trade of slaves and slavery as a whole to the Second British Empire when itcolonized one of the biggest states of the world India and some other countries of the East; to the Third British Empire where it colonized countries practically on all the continents of the world. TheForth British Empire signifies the stage of its decomposition and almost total down fall in the second half of the 20th century. It is shown how the national liberation moments starting in India and endingin Africa undermined the British Empire’s power, which couldn’t control the territories, no more. The foundation of the independent nation state of Great Britain free of colonies did not lead to lossof the imperial spirit of its establishment, which is manifested in its practical deeds – Organization of the British Commonwealth of Nations, which later on was called the Commonwealth, Brexit and so on.The conclusions are drawn that Great Britain makes certain efforts to become a global state again.

The aim of this study is to analyze the transformation and different approaches towards “the St. Petersburgtheme” in selected works of Russian writers at the end of the first part of the 19th century. This theme is known as the St. Petersburg text. The main focus of the study is put on the evolution of the St. Petersburg text in the literary historical process and the way it is presented in the literature of particular writers of the period. Furthermore, an attempt has been made to analyze how historical events and personal experiences of the writer affected the metamorphosis of the St. Petersburg text in the author’s literary works. In this paper, we shall confine our attention to Gogol’s Petersburg tales, a series of stories connected with the city ofSt. Petersburg of the 1830s and 1840s, as well as the poetry of that period.

The text is an attempt to analyze the evolution of aesthetic forms and motifs discussed on the example of the so-called “great figure” The Last Supper – the starting point for the analysis of the motif is the photography of David La Chapelle of the series: Jesus is my homeboy. Significant here is the context theory of parody by Linda Hutcheon – understood as a central point overview of contemporary art – a phenomenon combining fidelity to tradition and contemporary ideas of creative freedom, to express, among others, in need of confrontation with the ‘classic’ conventions – encroaching and deconstructive also in our contemporary pop-cultural processes of “image-consumption”.

W artykule autorka omawia teorię Johna F. Haughta, który odcinając się od kreacjonizmu i krytykując materializm metafizyczny, stara się pogodzić ewolucjonizm z biblijną wizją świata. Rozważane są tutaj główne założenia teistycznego ewolucjonizmu Haughta: hierarchiczna wizja świata, która wraz z hierarchią wyjaśnień ma uzasadniać potrzebę łączenia teorii ewolucji z wiarą religijną; metafizyka przyszłości, która ma wyjaśniać problem teodycei; a także estetyczna zasada kosmologiczna, mająca stanowić alternatywę dla socjobiologii i dualizmu psychofizycznego w dziedzinie etyki i ekologii.
Author discusses the theory proposed by John F. Haught who, cutting himself off from creationism and criticizing metaphysical materialism, tries to reconcile evolution with Biblical vision of the world. Considered here are the main suppositions of Haught’s theistic evolution: hierarchical vision of the world which in connection with hierarchy of explanations is supposed to account for necessity of combining the evolutionary theory with religious faith; metaphysics of the future which should explain theodicy problem; and aesthetic cosmological principle understood as an alternative to sociobiology and psychophysical dualism in the fields of ethics and ecology.

W artykule dokonano próby przedstawienia ewolucji bankowości internetowej w Polsce, która dokonuje się od połowy lat 90. ubiegłego stulecia do czasów obecnych. Autorka przedstawia najpierw trzyetapowy podział rozwoju i-bankowości, a następnie zwraca uwagę na konieczność wyodrębnienia etapu czwartego. Szczególną rolę w artykule odgrywa krótkie omówienie tzw. technologii WEB 2.0, jako wyznacznika zmian również w bankowości internetowej (etap czwarty). Na koniec opracowania autorka przywołuje przykład, który obrazuje innowacyjną bankowość internetową oraz przedstawia rozbieżności w postrzeganiu WEB 2.0 przez klientów oraz przedstawicieli bankowych.
The article attempts to show the evolution of online banking in Poland from the mid- nineties of the twentieth century to the present. Author presents the first three-stage development of banking and draws attention to necessity of isolation of the fourth stage. Important subject in the article is a specification of the so-called Web 2.0 technologies, as a determinant of changes in Internet banking (fourth stage). At the end of the study author presents the example that illustrates the innovative online banking and the differences in the perception of Web 2.0 by customers and bank representatives.

The 18. Congress of CPC (November 2012) was a great event in the political life of China and it had the influence on the world policy. It is reult of dynamic uprising of the economy and modernisation in China after last moree 35 years (second economy), also the position and rolle of PR of China in the international life. The main idea of 18. Congress is the conception of scientific development. The political and ideological force of China is CPC. What is a class-social character of contemporal CPC, its social-class composition, its new leaders, what was the CPC evolution from working class party through peasant party to allnational party, it`s the main questions of papers. The last problem is the prospect of socialism in China.
18. Съезд был великим событием в политической жизни Китая. Он имел тоже большое влияние на общемировую политику. Это последствие динамического развития экономики и модернизации Китая, особенно в течение последних 35 лет, когда Китай составил вторую экономику мира. Это влияло тоже на возвышение места и роли КНР на международном уровне. Главный тезис 18. Съезда это концепция научного развития. Ведущей политической и идеологической силой Китая является КПК. Социально-классовый характер современной КПК, её социально-классовый состав, её новое руководство, эволюция КПК от рабочей партии через крестьянскую к общенародной партии, будущее социализма в Китае – это основные проблемы, которые были затронуты в настоящей статье.

Wacław Nałkowski is certainly an outstanding figure for Polish geography. In many publications he has also been classified as positivist, anti-metaphysician, evolutionist, anticleric and socialist. Perhaps these designations are not always right, since in his works one can also find the ideas that do not quite match the labels conferred. His broad interests, diligence, criticism in selecting arguments, and the ability to see the essence of complex phenomena of different nature (both natural and cultural), yielded several interesting reflections contained in numerous articles and books. It should be emphasized that among his written thoughts and observations there are also those that resisted rapid changes in culture and environment that occurred in the century after his death, and can also be repeated today. Among them surely are his geographic and educational concepts. However, Nałkowski’s interests extend far beyond geography. The article focuses on interpretation of Nałkowski’s statements concerning the issues associated with the development of civilization, evolution, nature, as well as philosophy and sociology of science.

Celem niniejszego artykułu jest ukazanie ewolucji pojmowania republikańskiej formy rządów w Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej. Analiza ta dotyczy nie tylko regulacji prawnej tej zasady ustrojowej, ale także zmian poglądów doktryny konstytucyjnej na kwestie postrzegania zasady republikańskiej, w tym elementów na nią się składających. Rozbieżności postrzegania zasady republikańskiej formy rządów wśród badaczy były i są znaczące, co pokazuje, że przez ponad 100 lat niepodległego państwa polskiego spory te w dalszym ciągu są aktualne. Wspomniane różnice w interpretacji zasady republikańskiej dotyczą przede wszystkim elementów materialnych tej zasady, ujawniających związek pomiędzy ustrojem republikańskim a innymi zasadami ustrojowymi, przede wszystkim zasadą suwerenności ludu (narodu), zasada podziału władzy oraz zasadą określającą system rządów. W tym celu konieczne staje się dekodowanie tych zasad z uwzględnieniem tradycji republikańskich, a co za tym idzie w sposób pozwalający na realizacje tych wartości, które legły u podstaw stworzenia ustroju republikańskiego, nie tyle jako negacji monarchii, lecz jako formy stanowiącej dla niej alternatywę.
The main purpose of this article is to show the evolution of the understanding of the republican form of government in the Republic of Poland. This analysis concerns not only the legal regulation of this constitutional principle, but also refers to changes in the views of the constitutional doctrine on the perception of the republican principle, including its components. Discrepancies in the perception of the principle of the republican form of government among researchers were and are significant, which shows that for over 100 years of an independent Polish State, these disputes are still vigorous. The aforementioned differences in the interpretation of the republican principle concern primarily the material elements of this principle, revealing the relationship between the republican system and other principles of the system, first of all the principle of the sovereignty of the people (the nation), the principle of the separation of powers and the principle defining the system of government. For this reason, it becomes necessary to decode these rules in a way that respects the republican traditions. and, consequently, in a way that allows the implementation of the values that underpin the creation of the republican system, not so much as a negation of the monarchy, but as an alternative form to it.

The text is in its character a statement by a “witness to an era”. It is an attempt at describing Lutoslawski’s artistic path and his culture-forming activity from the perspective of an evolution within a concrete historical and political situation. This aesthetic evolution is evidenced in the composer’s utterances: significant interviews and private, confessional notes. They outline his creative path from the impact of Chopin as the emotional arche, through subsequent phases and breakthroughs: from academic aesthetics based on the Hanslick paradigm, through socialist-realist indoctrination and uncritical fascination with the avant-garde, to a gradual crystallisation of his own idiom. Eventually, this entirely own idiom, marked with a lyrical opening, consists in a return to everlasting values, expressly defined by the composer: the truth and the beauty of a work of art.

Opis:
The author tries to examine the reasons for the popularity of the Western film convention manifested by the game "Call of Juarez". It seems surprising because Western – once a popular genre – currently seems to be almost extinct. The key to the investigation of "Call of Juarez" appears to be the analysis of the intertextual references and the remediation of the Western convention. In order to explain the popularity of Western themed games, the author argues that the reasons responsible for the death of Western were mainly economic and not as it was previously considered – sociological.
