    Opis:
    The 19th century, particularly in the conceptions of the evolution of humanity by Ballanche, Leroux or Quinet, seems to highlight the idea of freedom in its struggle with fatality, whether the latter is identified with natural forces or with social order rooted in political and economic reality. Indeed, the three mentioned authors conceive the destinies of humanity as a progressive emancipation. The purpose of this article is to study, following a comparative method oriented on the history of ideas, how the relationship between freedom and fatality is articulated in each of them. While the works of Ballanche, Leroux and Quinet present numerous analogies with regard to the process of emancipation of humanity, that of Quinet is distinguished by his idea of a secular State separated from the Churches, which is the final transformation of the religious principle.

    Przedmiotem rozważań są trzy etapy rozwoju myślistwa. Pierwotnie polowania miały walory adaptacyjne i w procesie uczłowieczenia przyczyniły się do rozwoju cech specyficznie ludzkich. Po wynalezieniu hodowli zwierząt obyczajowość łowiecka nadal stanowiła ważny element tożsamości kulturowej i podlegała różnorodnym transformacjom zarówno pod wpływem instytucji państwowych, jak i instytucji kościelnych. Jednakże w realiach współczesnego świata, pod wpływem wiedzy ekologicznej powstaje nowa etyka zmieniająca stosunek człowieka do zwierząt. Myślistwo pozostaje w sprzeczności z poczuciem moralnym współczesnych ludzi. Pojawiają się żądania całkowitego zakazu polowania i zastąpienia go kontynuowaniem bezkrwawych tradycji łowieckich.
    The paper discusses three stages in the development of hunting. Initially hunting had an adaptive value and contributed to the process of evolution of humanoids. When animals were domesticated hunting rituals still constituted an important element of cultural identity and were subject to various transformations due to the pressure from the state and the church. In the contemporary world, under the influence of ecology we witness the emergence of a new ethics which changes man’s relationship to animals. Hunting cannot be reconciled with the morality of modern humanity. Some people demand a complete ban on hunting or that only bloodless tradition should be continued.

    Człowieczeństwo to pojęcie, które oznacza cechy wspólne dla wszystkich ludzi, w tym ogół takich, które stanowią o różnicy gatunkowej pomiędzy człowiekiem a zwierzętami. Problem ten podejmował Jerzy Chmurzyński, entomolog, etolog i filozof, „ojciec polskiej etologii”, zadając pytanie: ile człowieka jest w zwierzęciu? Perspektywa badawcza etologii, przyjmując paradygmat ewolucyjny, obejmuje wszelkie organizmy żywe, zdolne do zachowania się. Artykuł przedstawia etologiczne ujęcie natury ludzkiej przez Chmurzyńskiego i formułowane na tej podstawie wnioski antropologiczne, etyczne i estetyczne. To ujęcie ukazuje z jednej strony zakorzenienie człowieka w świecie przyrody, a z drugiej takie cechy jego natury, nabyte w procesie ewolucji, które sprawiają, że człowiek przerasta poziom biologiczny. Wśród tych cech można wyróżnić: myślenie abstrakcyjne, język, etykę, estetykę i kulturę. Jerzy Chmurzyński, ukazując biologiczne korzenie człowieczeństwa, pomaga lepiej zrozumieć, co to znaczy: „być sobą w swojej ludzkiej naturze”. Wnioski w ten sposób formułowane stanowią formę „biologicznych drogowskazów”, które, mając uniwersalny charakter, mogą wzmocnić tradycyjny system etyczny, przeciwstawiając się zagrożeniu w postaci dewiacji zachowań Homo sapiens.
    Humanity is a concept that denotes features common to all people, including features that constitute the differences between humans and other animal species. This issue was first taken up by Jerzy Chmurzyński, an entomologist, ethologist and philosopher, “the father of Polish ethology”, through the question: ‘to what extent are animals human?’ The scope of ethology, by adopting the evolutionary paradigm, includes all living organisms capable of behaving. This article focuses on Chmurzyński’s ethological approach to human nature and examines its anthropological, ethical and aesthetic implications. This approach shows, on the one hand, that man is a part of nature; on the other hand, it highlights the features man acquired in the process of evolution, which enable humans to exceed the animal level. Among such features, abstract thinking, language, ethics, aesthetics and culture can be singled out as the most distinctive of the human species. Jerzy Chmurzyński, by showing the biological roots of humanity allows us to better understand what it means to “be yourself in your human nature”. Furthermore, this type of reasoning leads to conclusions that can be taken to constitute universal, “biological signposts” that strengthen traditional value systems, countering the threats in the form of deviation from Homo sapiens behaviour.
