Opis:
To study cooperation evolution in populations, it is common to use games to model the individuals interactions. When these games are n-player it might be di cult to assign defection responsibility to any particular individual. In this paper the authors present an agent based model where each agent maintains reputation information of other agents. This information is used for partner selection before each game. Any agent collects information from the successive games it plays and updates a private reputation estimate of its candidate partners. This approach is integrated with an approach of variable sized population where agents are born, interact, reproduce and die, thus presenting a possibility of extinction. The results now obtained, for cooperation evolution in a population, show an improvement over previous models where partner selection did not use any reputation information. Populations are able to survive longer by selecting partners taking merely into account an estimate of others' reputations.

Opis:
The article focuses on analysis of Germany’s stance as regards transatlantic cooperation in the 21st century, presenting successively 1) main elements concerning the evolution of the transatlantic cooperation with special regard to Germany’s stance toward the U.S.; 2) controversies in Germany around working out provisions of the TTIP agreement; 3) the attitude of Christian Democrat-Liberal government towards the prospects of successful negotiations as well as the significance of finalizing the TTIP agreement. In evaluating Germany’s attitude as to the Transatlantic partnership the biggest emphasis has been devoted to Germany’s determinants and interests in its relations with the U.S. in political and socio-economic grounds. As regards controversies around future shape of TTIP agreement positions of CSU/CDU/SPD government, opposition parties in Bundestag as well as economic circles, trade unions, experts, scholars and non-governmental organizations have been taken into consideration. Basing on conducted opinion polls in the U.S. and in Germany in the final part of the study the attitudes of public opinion in both these states as for the crucial questions of Transatlantic cooperation have been presented between the EU and the U.S. There is ambivalence because generally supporting the signing of TTIP agreement between the EU and the U.S. the German society expresses stringent opposition to importing American genetically modifi ed food to European markets. Changing social moods among German society on TTIP agreement’s provisions force CDU/CSU/SPD to declare enhanced readiness to European standards and the EU’s interests.

Opis:
Why is language unique? How did language come about? When did this happen? These questions, although quite emblematic of the Western intellectual tradition since its ancient beginnings, so far have not found satisfying answers. Indeed, many still question the very possibility of addressing these basic problems of the origins of language with proper scientific rigor (see e.g. Hauser et al. 2014). However, an emerging consensus is that current research in the field of language evolution is in fact bearing fruit, making it at least possible to judge in an informed manner which of these competing scenarios are far more or less probable. In what follows, I guide the reader through some of this research and some of these scenarios; for more details, I refer the reader to a recent book (Żywiczyński & Wacewicz 2015), which is the first monograph that presents this developing field of language evolution research to the Polish reader.
