    Introduction: Defined as the ability to recognize an ethical problem, ethical sensitivity is closely related to nurses' professional experience and job satisfaction.Purpose: To determine the ethical sensitivity, job satisfaction and related factors of nurses working in different areas.Materials and methods: This research was a descriptive study. Participants were 160 nurses working at Samsun Ondokuz Mayıs University, Health Application and Research Center in Samsun, Turkey. The permission of institution and Medical Research Ethics Committee approval were obtained. After getting permission from the top management of hospitals, information about the study was given to nurses. Those willing to participate were informed that participation was voluntary and invited to give written consent before data collection. For data collection purposes, the researchers used Personal Information Form, Ethical Sensitivity Questionnaire, and Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire.Results: In our study 70.6% of the nurses stated that they chose the profession willingly, 48.8% had 1-5 years of professional experience, and 45% stated that they had ethical problems in their professional life. Total score of nurses in the ethical sensitivity and job satisfaction scales was found to be at moderate level. Job satisfaction of single nurses that were in the 40 and over age group that performing their duties willingly was found to be statistically significantly higher than other groups (p <0.05).Conclusion: There was no relationship between nurses' total score averages of job satisfaction and total score averages of ethical sensitivity

    Opis:
    The paper deals with professional competences, and within their structure, it specifically engages in those which shape the level of ethical competence of future university graduates. The authors point out the growing trend in job market requirements related to this type of qualities of universityeducated individuals. The main purpose of paper is to analyze the students’ perception of the importance of ethical erudition, ability to perceive morally, as well as make moral assumptions and adequate ethical decisions. It presents the results of a questionnaire research, the aim of which was to identify the readiness of students to attend and complete a university course of applied ethics, and their expectations of such type of education.
    Niniejszy artykuł dotyczy kompetencji zawodowych, szczególnie tych, które kształtują poziom etyczny przyszłych absolwentów. Zwrócono uwagę na rosnącą tendencję wymagań rynku pracy odnoszących się do absolwentów uczelni. Zbadano zdolność postrzegania sensu i znaczenia etycznego erudycji, rozumowania moralnego i etycznego podejmowania decyzji przez samych studentów. Przedstawiono wyniki badania ankietowego, którego celem było określenie wstępnej gotowości uczniów do wzięcia udziału i ukończenia uniwersyteckiego kursu etyki stosowanej.

    Opis:
    The article presents the results of empirical analysis of the transcription of twenty-two in-depth free interviews conducted with ethics teachers, teaching this subject in Polish schools at various levels of education. The first part of the article describes the socio-political and ideological context of introducing the subject of ethics to Polish schools. The next one presents motivations of students choosing this subject and a sometimes critical evaluation of the core curriculum for this subject made by teachers. The core curriculum does not take into account the ethical sensitivity of students focused rather on the problems of practical ethics than philosophical ethics. The last part of the text describes a “figure of loneliness” of an ethics teacher in a Polish school and presents a hypothesis regarding the axiological silence prevailing in Polish families.
    W artykule zostały przedstawione wyniki empirycznej analizy transkrypcji dwudziestu dwóch pogłębionych wywiadów swobodnych przeprowadzonych z nauczycielami etyki, uczącymi tego przedmiotu w polskich szkołach na różnych poziomach edukacji. Pierwsza część artykułu opisuje społeczno-polityczny i ideologiczny kontekst wprowadzania przedmiotu etyka do polskich szkół. Kolejna przedstawia motywacje uczniów wybierających ten przedmiot oraz krytyczną czasami ocenę podstaw programowych do tego przedmiotu dokonaną przez nauczycieli. Podstawy programowe nie uwzględniają wrażliwości etycznej uczniów, skoncentrowanej raczej na problemach etyki praktycznej niż etyki filozoficznej. W ostatniej części tekstu opisano „figurę samotności” nauczyciela etyki w polskiej szkole oraz hipotezę dotyczącą aksjologicznej ciszy panującej w polskich rodzinach.

    Attention to metaphor as a tool for cognition and action has already been called by the classic work by Georg Lakoff and Mark Johnson—Metaphors We Live By (1980). However, some four decades after this publication’s first edition, the role of metaphor as a useful instrument in empirical research seems to have been forgotten. Therefore, the first step taken in the text at hand is to highlight that codes of ethics neither resolve nor befit the dynamically shifting circumstances of research conducted in the field. Ethical codes are often insufficient. Hence, an objective here will be to critically assess the broad application of such codes in general. The second step will be to turn to metaphor as a tool in developing the sociological imagination as understood by C. Wright Mills. The metaphor can also assist in finding oneself when confronted with difficult, ambiguous circumstances that may arise during fieldwork. Metaphor as a tool, as an ethical kaleidoscope coherently links the field research experience precisely with the sociological imagination.

    This article outlines the creation of tools to measure spiritual sensitivity – Spiritual Sensitivity Inventory (SSI), starting from the assumptions underlying the source of its creation, through a phase of theoretical analysis of the construct used for development of an experimental method, a quantitative validation of the inventory, ending with a validation of quality, i.e. narrative interviews conducted in order to confirm the theoretical accuracy of the SSI. The authors clarify the construct of spiritual sensitivity, describe a deductive strategy for questionnaire creation, indicate the potential theoretical and methodological problems encountered by psychologists studying spirituality, present a spectrum of validation procedures and their ultimate effect – an accurate and reliable psychometric tool – the Spiritual Sensitivity Inventory. A developed spiritual sensitivity is beneficial not only in relationships between people but also in the educational, professional and social domain. In this light, an accurate and reliable diagnostic tool can be used in a business environment and organization.
