This article examines the U.S. Supreme Court’s lesser-known educative role as an egalitarian institution within a broader deliberative democratic process. Scholars have argued that the Court’s long asserted power of judicial review, especially in the equal protection and civil rights context, has been an over-reach of the judicial branch’s constitutional authority and responsibilities. Normative and empirical critiques have been centered on the aims of judicial review, and the challenges it poses in American political life. A core issue surrounding these critiques is that Justices are appointed not elected, and thus undermine the principle of majority rule in the U.S. constitutional democratic order. Although these critiques are legitimate in terms of claims about unelected Supreme Court Justices’ seemingly discretionary powers over elected legislative bodies, and the uncertain policy implications of judicial pronouncements on the broader society, there is, nevertheless, a positive application of judicial review as a tool Justices use as part of their educative role overcoming the so-called “counter-majoritarian difficulty.” Through a close reading of oral arguments in Brown vs. Board of Education (1954) and San Antonio vs. Rodriguez (1973)-two landmark cases invoking the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment to the federal Constitution-the article shows how appointed Justices adjudicate individual cases on appeal and attempt to educate (through an argumentative, reason-based and question-centered process) citizenlitigants and their legal representatives about the importance of equality, fairness and ethical responsibility even prior to rendering final decisions on policy controversies that have broader national social, political and economic implications.

Corporate social responsibility is a concept, which allows companies to show that they acknowledge their part in the state and functionality of a society. Based on the basic concept of corporate social responsibility, companies amend their traditional economic goals by adding goals that focus on environmental, social and ethical issues. In accordance with these they amend their visions and strategies. Corporate social responsibility is a trend that alters company’s direction from short-term to long-term goals with preference for optimal, not maximum, profit.
Społeczna odpowiedzialność biznesu to koncepcja, która pozwa-la firmom wykazać, że przyznają się do udziału w bycie i funkcjonalności społeczeństwa. Opierając się na podstawowej koncepcji społecznej odpowiedzialności biznesu, firmy zmieniają swoje tradycyjne cele gospodarcze, dodając cele, które koncentrują się na kwestiach środowiskowych, społecznych i etycznych. Zgodnie z tymi celami zmieniają swoje wizje i strategie. Społeczna odpowiedzialność biznesu to trend, który zmienia kierunek firmy z krótko-terminowych na długoterminowe cele z preferencją dla optymalnego a nie maksymalnego zysku.

Niniejszy artykuł koncentruje się wokół etycznych i prawnych aspektów niezasadności wynagrodzenia pełnomocnika ustanowionego w ramach prawa pomocy w postępowaniu sądowoadministracyjnym za sporządzenie opinii o braku podstaw do wniesienia skargi do sądu administracyjnego I instancji. Artykuł został przygotowany w oparciu o zastosowanie metod prawno-dogmatycznej, porównawczej oraz analizy. Ustanowienie w ramach prawa pomocy pełnomocnika do sporządzenia skargi nakłada na niego obowiązek przygotowania pisma procesowego, umożliwiającego stronie wszczęcie postępowania sądowego. Ustawodawca nie przewidział możliwości sporządzenia przez pełnomocnika ustanowionego w ramach prawa pomocy opinii o braku podstaw do wniesienia skargi. Społeczne nauczanie Kościoła podkreśla etyczny wymiar pracy. Dotyczy to zarówno wykonywania pracy, jak i zapłaty za jej wykonanie, która domaga się równoważności. Każda praca winna być wykonana solidnie i uczciwe. Pracownik nie może dopominać się zapłaty, jeśli pracy nie wykonał lub wykonał niesolidnie. Celem artykułu jest próba połączenia dwóch dziedzin naukowych, aby wykazać, że zarówno na polu prawnym jak i etycznym obowiązują te same zasady, które zostały opisane różnym językiem naukowym. Autorzy mają nadzieję, że poruszona problematyka w znaczący sposób przyczyni się do zrozumienia, czym jest wynagrodzenie za wykonana pracę, jak również to, że na polu etycznym jak i prawnym tego typu zachowania są nie akceptowalne. Zarówno prawo jak i nauka społeczna Kościoła katolickiego tego typu postawy uważa za naganne.
This article is focused on ethical and legal aspects of remuneration for work performed by the attorney established under the right to assistance in the court-administrative proceedings. The attorney established under the right to assistance is obliged to prepare a pleading enabling the party to initiate court proceedings. The legislator did not foresee the possibility for an attorney established under the right to assistance to draw up an opinion on the lack of grounds to lodge a complaint. In its teaching the Church emphasizes the ethical dimension of work. It concerns both the performance of work and the payment for its completion. Every job should be performed with due diligence and integrity. It is necessary that the payment for the work done should be fair and adequate. It is unacceptable that the performed job remains unpaid for. Similarly, the employee cannot demand remuneration if he either failed to do the job or did not meet the required standards. The ethical dimension comprises the responsibility for the jobs undertaken by employees. The aim of the article is to try to Combie two scientific Fields to show that both the legal and ethical Fields have the same rulet described in different scientific languages. The autors hope that the issues raised will significantly contribute to under standing what remuneration is for the work done, as well as the fact that in the ethical and legal field this type ob. Behavior is unacceptable. Both the law and social teaching of the Catholic Church consider such attitudes to be reprehensible.

Claiming responsibility is not exclusively ethical or moral, but also political and ideological. The topic of the writer’s responsibility is at the heart of the main debates in the period 1914-1945. The French Intelligentsia stated its stand on the effective and active engagement of the intellectuals under the circumstances of having taken part in history. Until the end of the 1920s, intellectual commitment was feeble. It was only after the end of the 1930s that the intellectual commitment was “theorized”, gradually taking off to culminate with Sartre after the Second World War – the great figure of the intellectual committed.
Revendiquer une responsabilité n’est pas exclusivement d’ordre éthique et moral, mais aussi politique et idéologique. Le thème de la responsabilité de l'écrivain est à l’origine des principaux débats de la période 1914-1945. L'intelligentsia française se prononce au sujet de l'engagement effectif et actif de l'intellectuel dans des circonstances où ils ont pris part à l'histoire. Jusqu’à la fin des années 20, l’engagement intellectuel se fait faiblement sentir. Ce n’est qu’après la fin des années 30 que l’engagement intellectuel est « théorisé », prenant peu à peu, son envol pour en arriver à son apogée, après la Deuxième Guerre mondiale avec Sartre - grande figure de l’intellectuel engagé.

The paper discusses the relationship of the global responsibility crisis with values. The author shows that the source of this crisis is the loss of perspective defined by universal values. She uses the European concept of creativity and the Chinese concept of crisis /wej-dżi/ to show the ethical dimension of the crisis. She draws attention to the usefulness of the crisis for creative crossing the limits of what is possible as set by the current situation.
W artykule omówiono związek kryzysu globalnej odpowiedzialności z wartościami. Autorka pokazuje, że źródłem tego kryzysu jest utrata perspektywy określonej przez uniwersalne wartości. Korzystając przy tym z europejskiego pojęcia twórczości i z chińskiego pojęcia kryzysu wej-dżi, odsłania etyczny wymiar kryzysu. Zwraca uwagę na przydatność kryzysu do twórczego przekraczania granic możliwości wyznaczonych przez aktualną sytuację.

CSR is a continued promise by companies to act ethically, to contribute to sustainable economic development, and to contribute to improvement of quality of life of their employees, their families, as well as local communities and society as a whole. Confirmation of this trend is implementation of other models of management systems that focus on quality. One such model is a parallel interconnectivity between Corporate Social Responsibility and the EFQM Excellence Model, which our article examines in depth. Systematic and professional application of the EFQM Excellence Model and interconnectivity with Corporate Social Responsibility fundamentals results in maximization of added value for all interested parties. Principles of Corporate Social Responsibility are closely tied to philosophy of the EFQM Excellence Model, in that each company has its own management and power of ideas that identify its vision. Criteria of the EFQM Excellence Model are interconnected with Corporate Social Responsibility and both philosophies determine a company’s success.
CSR to obietnica przedsiębiorstw, aby działać etycznie i przyczynić się do zrównoważonego rozwoju gospodarczego, a także do poprawy jakości życia pracowników, ich rodzin, jak również społeczności lokalnych i społeczeństwa jako całości. Potwierdzeniem tej tendencji jest realizacja innych modeli systemów zarządzania, które koncentrują się na jakości. Jednym z takich modeli jest równoległa łączność między Społeczną Odpowiedzialnością Biznesu i Modelem Doskonałości EFQM, które są dogłębnie analizowane w artykule. Systematyczne i profesjonalne zastosowanie Modelu Doskonałości EFQM i łączność z podstawami Społecznej Odpowiedzialności Biznesu powoduje maksymalizację wartości dodanej dla wszystkich zainteresowanych stron.

Ethical education has more than a twenty-year-long tradition in Slovak education and still evokes discourse both in the professional community and among lay public. Therefore, alongside with practical measuring of efficiency of prosociality, research activity is focused on examination of ethical, philosophical, anthropological, psychological and pedagogical foundations of social relationality with regard to contemporary valid conception of ethical education in school education in Slovakia. Since the notion of prosociality is relatively unknown in the philosophical-educational discourse, the submitted paper offers several ideas on connection between prosocial behaviour and moral-philosophical thinking. At the same time, it briefly discusses the importance of presence of pedagogical love in education while implementing prosociality in contemporary school education in Slovakia.

The aim of this article is to discern the crux of SME sector social responsibility in developing countries. An attempt is made to identify, empirically, the ethical standards subscribed to by small firms in Poland and to compare them with the standards of small firms in the UK. The methodology of empirical analysis of the ethical standards of Polish entrepreneurs running small businesses was modelled on Laura Spence’s research on the priorities, practices and ethics of small firms in the UK. This analysis has revealed certain similarities and significant differences in the way CSR is perceived by Polish and British entrepreneurs. British entrepreneurs manifest a higher degree of awareness with regard to the issue of social responsibility and are more strongly motivated by their external environment to take up social responsibility issues than Polish ones.

The aim of the study was to determine actions that should be undertaken by companies to be seen as socially responsible, and what factors influence on the choice of the employer by respondents. A diagnostic survey method was used including the author’s questionnaire, which was tested upon 1,157 residents of Lubelskie Province. The stratified random selection was applied, and discriminant function analysis for statistical calculations. According to respondents, a socially responsible company is such that prefers ethical action, well treats the employees, has a honest relationship with employees and customers, as well as supports charity and ecological organizations. When choosing an employer, earnings, opinion of employees about the atmosphere in the company, and the prospect of the employees development proved to be the most important. Experiences of other countries should be used in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in order to achieve the most practical management methods, while entrepreneurs should be familiarized with the importance of CRS, and take care of the social approval of their company in media, as well as seek to cooperate with the authorities and the local community.
Celem badań było określenie działań, jakie powinny podejmować przedsiębiorstwa, by mogły być postrzegane jako odpowiedzialne społecznie oraz jakie czynniki decydują o wyborze pracodawcy przez respondentów. Wykorzystano metodę sondażu diagnostycznego, a w niej autorski kwestionariusz ankiety, którym przebadano 1157 mieszkańców województwa lubelskiego. Zastosowano dobór losowy warstwowy, a przy wyliczeniach statystycznych analizę funkcji dyskryminacyjnej. Według respondentów, przedsiębiorstwo społecznie odpowiedzialne to takie, które preferuje działania etyczne, dobrze traktuje pracowników, ma uczciwy stosunek do pracowników i klientów oraz wspiera charytatywne i ekologiczne organizacje. Przy wyborze pracodawcy najważniejsze okazały się zarobki, opinia pracowników na temat atmosfery w firmie i perspektywa rozwoju pracowników. W działaniach CSR należy wykorzystywać doświadczenia innych krajów w celu osiągnięcia najbardziej praktycznych metod zarządzania, uświadamiać przedsiębiorcom znaczenie CRS, dbać o aprobatę społeczną firmy w mediach oraz dążyć do współpracy z władzami i społecznością lokalną.

The article is concerned with the possibility of formulating moral judgments with respect to actions whose results may influence the quality of life, existence, number and identity of the future people. Because of the problems connected with defining the addressees and the reasons of responsibility for future generations on the ground of the ethical theories existing now, new theories are formulated on the basis of the so-called impersonal or personal premises. According to the impersonal theories moral evaluations are based on the final assessment of all the effects of the action, whose total value may be defined as a positive or negative state of affairs. According to the representatives of personal theories, the question whether an action has a beneficial or a harmful effect on the addressee of the action, is the main criterion of the moral evaluation. Since there is no satisfactory justification for the responsibility for the future generations, both in personal and impersonal theories argumentation is analyzed that is based on a predicted responsibility for the people who will exist in the future.

The aforementioned issue is connected to ’ethical turn’ — new orientation in literary studies, which was introduced in the nineties of 20th century. In order to uncover its source of inspiration, I refer to Lévinas’s works, such as Reality and its Shadow, The poet’s vision, Totality and Infinity, Otherwise than Being. I advocate the view that not only Lévinas’s concept of language, but also his account of poetry and responsibility underlie ethical criticism. Therefore, they are regarded as crucial to understand this new approach to literary studies. To illustrate my thesis, I attempt to interpret literary works, i.e. Wordsworth’s and Coetzee’s in light of Lévinas’s concepts.

Opis:
The definition of leadership and the role of leadership in generating and maintaining effective organizational change has been widely studied for a long time. Leadership is often defined in terms of the influence, emotional manipulation, classical top-down approach. We must learn to build leadership concept on a foundation of ethical reasoning, rather than pretending that leadership and ethics are separate. The search for leadership and the search for ethics amount to the same thing, and both have to be connected to our concept of corporate identity. As a practical example of such an attitude the typology of different leadership paradigms is analysed. We suggest here that organic paradigm, or co-leadership, is the most adaptive to the challenges of corporate social responsibility transformation. Good leadership, in moral and technical sense, means participative leadership which can create conditions within organizations for employee and stakeholder empowerment. In this ongoing process values become an integral part of the practice of daily management, the means by which the responsible company acts.
