Opis:
In The Eudemian Ethics 1237B6–7 Aristotle seems to suggest that if the ethical friend has an unpleasant odour, he is left by his friend. The article is devoted to demonstrating that the ethical friendship is not the apparent friendship. For this purpose author presents the characteristics of the true friend and distinguishes two types of the ethical friendship, the first between good men, i.e. men with a typical mixture of good and bad traits of character, the second between noble men, i.e. the best men who are heroes of intellect and character – intellect because prudent, character because noble. On this basis author shows three interpretations which neutralize controversial statement. According to the first interpretation – called “superhuman stink” – unpleasant odour is impossible to endure for the men, even good or noble. Therefore ethical friend must leave his friend in such circumstances. According to the second interpretation – called “one-dimensional courage” – ethical friend, who has an unpleasant odour is left by ethical friend, since one, who leaves can not endure stinking friend. The reason is that he has one-dimensional courage and apart from direct hostilities he does not cope with own weakness. According to the third interpretation– called “heroic solitude” – ethical friend, who has an unpleasant odour does not want to grieve his friend. Therefore decides to heroic solitude – heroic, since a human being is a civic being and one whose nature is to live with others– and leaves his friend.

Opis:
Justice requires a certain form of “fraternity” (Rawls), “solidarity” (Marxists) or “civic friendship” (Aristotle), which is often justified with a need to limit socio-economic inequalities that can undermine just political institutions. However, fraternity has long been associated with the community of “male citizens”, and was also usurped by a totalitarian margin (e.g. the Bruderschaftof the Nazi elite). Less often it is observed that the idea of solidarity, of “standing together” in the opposition to practices of exploitation, has also been modelled on historically male forms of activity: on marching, demonstrating, fighting at the barricades (military activity) or launching labour strikes (economic production). The significance of the notion of civic friendship today is grounded in a third model – that of ethical action or praxis – i.e. in all those activities that support the reproduction of flourishing relations (here called friendship), whether personal or civic, for their own sake. This model of activity has been eclipsed in the modern period by the dominant model of production, yet it includes a host of practices, traditionally (but by no means exclusively) performed by women outside the market: feeding and caring for the young, for the old and sick, developing others’ abilities, educating them, simple playing, etc. Once this alternative model is developed – and its practices thoroughly adapted to modern principles of universal right and respect for personhood – the ideal of civic friendship may just be the most appropriate idea of community for today’s democratic and pluralist society.

Opis:
The article provides theoretical analysis of dynamics of love and its connection with the truth about a person, in the context of ethical and metaphysical personalism. The considerations begin with the presentation of a philosophical controversy between the phenomenological and personalist recognition of love; the first indicates the empirical nature of love, whereas the second is complemented by ethics – virtue of love, related to the moral duty. Further the author undertakes to analyze the development of love including metaphysical and psychological aspects, which ends with a description of the imitations of love in the face of the mature, complete love, taking into account the truth about a person and representing the goal of education.
