Opis:: We find ourselves in times where national leaders engage in fraudulent and deceptive behaviors for personal and political gains, and multinational corporations use unethical practices to maximize their profits. Where dangerously defective products are released onto the market endangering the health and lives of consumers, and where news channels become opinion channels. Where the motto of the free market is reduced to a simple‘grab all you can, any way you can.’ In times such as these, it is difficult to teach and promote ethical behavior. A cursory look at the advertising messages and the spins put on issues by public relations people leaves one wondering if business ethics is anything more than an oxymoron – a self‑contradicting claim. In times such as ours (in 2017), it is crucial that institutions of higher learning continue to teach and foster ethical behavior and ethical responsibility. No doubt, it is an uphill struggle for educators to convince students to think and act in ethically appropriate terms when surrounded by corruption, deceit, and fraud. While no one will deny the need for ethical practices, teaching these values in a convincing manner remains a challenge. Using meta‑analysis of various University courses in ethics, the present paper attempts three goals. First, it builds a rationale for the importance of ethical behavior, the need for teaching it, and the criticisms of those who think it unnecessary to teach ethics. Second, it discusses various strategies used by universities and several educators in teaching and reinforcing ethical behavior. This section also offers a criticism of approaches and methodologies of teaching ethics. Third, it offers an outline for a syllabus for an introductory course in Ethics.

Opis:: Globalny kryzys finansowy 2008 roku był jedną z największych recesji w historii i doprowadził do olbrzymich strat tak w wymiarze ekonomicznym, jak i społecznym. Celem artykułu jest zbadanie, w jakim zakresie w literaturze na temat przyczyn globalnego kryzysu finansowego uwzględniane są wątki etyczne. Wykazuje się w nim, że mimo destrukcyjnego wpływu nieetycznych postaw wielu instytucji rynku finansowego oraz menedżerów, które doprowadziły do globalnego kryzysu finansowego, etyczne aspekty kryzysu są wciąż pomijane w literaturze przedmiotu. Autor konkluduje, że paradygmaty ekonomii i nauk zarządzania winny być zrewidowane i mocno zakorzenione w etyce.
The global financial crisis of 2008 was one of the biggest in the history and it brought about enormous losses both on the economic and social plane. The aim of the article is to assess to what extent ethical considerations are present in literature on the causes of the global financial crisis. It is argued that despite the destructive role of unethical behaviors of numerous business entities as well as CEOs in the financial sector which set the stage for the global financial crisis, the ethical aspects of the financial crisis remain neglected. The author concludes that the paradigms of economic and management sciences should be revised and that they should be embedded in ethics.

Opis:: Purpose: The main purpose of the paper is to provide empirical evidence on certified auditors’ perceptions in the Republic of North Macedonia (RNM) about the new IFAC International Code of Ethics for Professional Accountants. Methodology/approach: A survey was conducted by distributing a questionnaire to the certified auditors in RNM, and the answers were then analyzed. Findings: The results indicate that the observance of the Code of Ethics affects the quality of audit engagements in domestic practice. The majority of practitioners believe that the fundamental principles are sufficiently clearly elaborated and can provide an appropriate basis for ethical conduct. The principle of objectivity is most exposed to threats, while the most common threat is familiarity. Safeguards created by the profession, the law, and regulations are more effective in addressing threats. Finally, practitioners agree that the innovations brought by the new Code of Ethics represent a significant benefit to the auditors’ mission to preserve and strengthen their independence. Research implications/limitations: The research provides empirical evidence of ethical behavior in domestic audit practice, but no similar research has been done before to make a comparative analysis. Originality/value: This research is the first of this type in RNM and fills the research gap in the field of ethical behavior in the domestic audit practice.

Opis:: Setting up public administration which operates effectively and taking over responsibilities, both crucial on the point of view of the democracy indicators, requires great effort from all social stake holders in setting up and maintaining a public service organization. This notion implies the setting in function of the instruments and procedures that prevent undesirable behavior and provide encouragement of good behavior among operators of those services. While doing this, communication as a main component of the public service, calls for structure and control. Ethics or standards of behavior in the public sector are important political and public issues for every country, which is always held as a fundamental prerequisite for “good behavior” (good governance). The Code of ethics by which are expressed the values and standards in the civil service is one of the ethical elements of infrastructure. It enhances the function of orientation (giving instructions for action and behavior), and aims: respect for the law, respect for individuals, personal and professional integrity and efficiency in managing public resources, reinforcing the role and importance that the communication strategies and tools have. Professional association helps to develop judgment and of the necessary skills to enable white collar workers to apply communication strategy and tools and ethical principles in real circumstances. Objective progress can help create an environment where the white collar workers are willing to face and resolve communication problems and ethical disputes, they can even develop essential skills for effective communication and ethical analysis. The mechanisms of awareness about mission and processes of the public service, orientation and internal consulting in the civil service should be available to help white collar workers to apply basic communication and ethical standards in the workplace. Improvements in the legal framework is necessary for the proper functioning of public service, namely: to gain and maintain public confidence.

Opis:: This essay is an metaethical reflection on the character of teaching ethics in school and academic realities of Poland, the aim is to show the type of ethics which is the best in achieving the syllabus and educational assumptions of the discipline. It seems that the most important of them are the following issues:- Rationalization of ethical choices, i.e. giving the reasons for choosing particular moral values- the clearly presented problem of the responsibility for the decisions- Strengthening proper improvements of the character, which enable to choose and defend moral values: tolerance, ecological responsibility.There are two the most general ways distinguished of presentation of ethics within school or academic lecture: the “naturalistic” and the “engaged” one.The naturalistic approach is restricted to the presentation of various ethical systems without any discussion included on evaluating these systems, the engaged approach critically analyses different ethical solutions, reasonably assessing their character.Despite the arguments for the naturalistic approach (presently fashionable criticism of ethics, the issue of toleration and avoidance of the idéologisation) I undertake to defend the engaged approach as better at giving possibilities of reasonable criticism of moral behaviors and as the result of this criticism, moral attitudes which are the goal of teaching ethics in school.

Opis:: The paper concerns the model of aspects of ethical competencies of human capital development in information systems in a transition economy, on the Polish labor market. The purpose of the research is to verify the association of Human Potentiality (HP) and Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) among 263 IT users in relation to their professional position, in Poland. The authors used two new questionnaires in Polish studies: the Human Potentiality Inventory in achieving career goals (HPI) and an adapted Employee Behavior Questionnaire (EBQ). The authors estimated the levels of HP and the manifestation of OCB of IT users in relation to their professional position. Applying and popularizing the ideas of HP and OCB may have an effect on the development of staff’s ethical attitudes on the labor market, which increases commitment, efficiency and leads to economic growth. The research results complement the gap in the scientific literature that concerns the psychosocial characteristics of IT users such as Human Potentiality and sensitivity intelligence in terms of achieving career goals and ethical attitudes. The results show differences between bosses and subordinates and dependencies between the components of HP and OCB. The analysis is based on a random interpersonal network and sequence sampling with the passive optimal experiment design conducted among IT users for the first time in such a context in the Lower Silesia voivodship in Poland.

Opis:: The phenomenon of suicide has been present in the history of humanity since the beginning of its existence. Suicidal acts were committed in every epoch and culture, but the scale of the phenomenon has been increasing with the development of civilisation. The aggravation of the problem has caused scholars to reflect on reasons for suicide and the nature of the suicidal act itself. Therefore, suicide is a subject of interest of various fields of study, including philosophy, theology, pedagogy, psychology, sociology and criminology. The article attempts to present the state of knowledge on the discussed issue from three perspectives. The authors present the problem of suicide in the context of selected philosophical currents, ethical systems and social motives by which people committing suicide are driven. Then the authors point at the philosophical conditioning which, in appropriate circumstances, is conducive to suicidal behaviour. The above mentioned issues are analysed on the basis of extensive epidemiological data.
Zjawisko samobójstwa występuje w dziejach ludzkości od początków jego istnienia. Niezależnie od kultury czy epoki historycznej dokonywano aktów samobójczych, jednak skala tego zjawiska nasilała się wraz z rozwojem cywilizacyjnym. W związku z narastaniem problemu również w nauce podjęto refleksję na temat analizy przyczyn samobójstwa i samego aktu samobójczego. A zatem samobójstwo jest przedmiotem zainteresowania wielu dziedzin nauki, m.in.: filozofii, teologii, pedagogiki, psychologii, socjologii czy kryminologii. Artykuł jest próbą przedstawienia stanu wiedzy na temat omawianego zjawiska w trzech perspektywach. Autorzy przedstawiają problem samobójstwa w kontekście wybranych nurtów filozoficznych i systemów etycznych, jak również społecznych motywów, które kierują samobójcami. Następnie wskazują na uwarunkowania psychologiczne, które w odpowiednich okolicznościach sprzyjają zachowaniom samobójczym. Powyższe zagadnienia są analizowane na bazie obszernych danych epidemiologicznych.
