Based on measurements of a space ship position error detected by INS system versus DGPS system [1] we propose analytical error function [3] that contains linear trend component and oscillating component with linearly increasing amplitude, unknown period and unknown initial phase. Parameters of this function were determined based on error measurements for a period of more than 3 hours of a space ship flight. The intended aim of this paper was to calculate the a/m function parameters based on measurements generated in the first hour of space ship flight and to assess error of the determined function within the remaining period.

In this investigation, we consider Bayesian and Non-Bayesian estimation problems of unknown scale parameter of Gamma distribution assuming the shape parameter as known and derive Bayes and Classical (Non-Bayes) estimators of the scale parameter. Bayes estimators are obtained under symmetric (squared error) and asymmetric (linex and precautionary) loss functions using a non-informative prior. The risk efficiency of Bayes estimators is also obtained under these loss functions. Finally, the simulation study is done to compare the performance of these estimators using MATLAB software.

Opis:
In this paper, explicit Improved Runge-Kutta (IRK) methods with two, three and four stages have been analyzed in detail to derive the error estimates inherent in them whereas their convergence, order of local accuracy, stability and arithmetic complexity have been proved in the relevant literature. Using single and multivariate Taylor series expansion for a mathematical function of one and two variables respectively, slopes involved in the IRK methods have been expanded in order to obtain the general expression for the leading or principal term in the local truncation error of the methods. In addition to this, principal error functions of the methods have also been derived using the idea of Lotkin bounds which consequently gave rise to the error estimates for the IRK methods. Later, these error estimates were compared with error estimates of the two, three, and four-stage standard explicit Runge-Kutta (RK) methods to show the better performance of the IRK methods in terms of the error bounds on the constant step-size h used for solving the initial value problems in ordinary differential equations. Finally, a couple of initial value problems have been tested to determine the maximum absolute global errors, absolute errors at the final nodal point of the integration interval and the CPU times (seconds) for all the methods under consideration to get a better idea of how the methods behave in a particular situation especially when it comes to analyzing the error terms.

This work presents results of calculations of diffusion coefficient and surface emission coefficient for wood of sub-alpine fir (Abies lasiocarpa) in the case of diffusion in the transverse direction to fibres. The results of moisture desorption in the samples of sub-alpine fir, presented in the article by Cai [1] and realized by slicing samples and weighing individual slices, were employed in the work. The values of moisture diffusion coefficients and mass surface emission coefficient were found using the method of minimizing the fitting function, assuming boundary conditions of the second and third kind with constant surface emission coefficient on the corresponding edges of samples. Moreover, two cases of variations of the moisture diffusion coefficient together with moisture content of the material were analysed each time: in the form of a constant and quadratic function. The obtained results were compared with the results presented in the paper [1].

Artykuł przedstawia metodę wyznaczania funkcyjnych charakterystyk niezawodnościowych układów z tzw. "rezerwą zimną" (element rezerwowy pozostaje nieczynny - "zimny" do czasu uszkodzenia elementu zasadniczego) . Wyznaczenie charakterystyk niezawodnościowych dokonano w oparciu o funkcję dwóch zmiennych losowych, za pomocą splotu funkcji - funkcji prawdopodobieństw uszkodzeń elementów układu. Prezentowana metoda pozwala wyznaczyć charakterystyki niezawodnościowe układu z "rezerwą zimną" w analitycznej formie. Metodę zastosowano do wyznaczenia funkcji niezawodności układu z "rezerwą zimną", którego elementy mają swoje funkcje prawdopodobieństwa uszkodzeń opisane funkcją Gaussa. Prezentowana metoda zilustrowana została przykładem liczbowym. Wyniki uzyskane w przykładzie przedstawiono także graficznie.
The paper gives a method that allows one to find reliability characteristics for standby redundancy systems. The method is based on the concept of a function of two random variables, and the solution of the problem is done with a convolution of two functions that are probability density functions of the elements of the system. The method allows one to find reliability characteristics systems in their analytical forms (if reliability characteristics of the elements are in the same forms). The method was used to find a reliability function of a standby redundancy system where elements possessed their probability density functions as Gauss functions. In the analysis, we allowed for the fact that the convolution of two Gauss functions is a Gauss function as well. To solve the expression of the reliability function of systems or elements those probability density functions were Gauss functions, we used an error function. That allowed getting a solution of the problem in an analytical form. There were given examples of mechanical elements possessing their probability density functions like Gauss functions. The method was exemplified numerically, and its results were presented graphically.

This article outlines the application of the Bayesian method of parameter estimation to situations where the probability of age misreporting is high, leading to transfers of an individual from one age group to another. An essential requirement for Bayesian estimation is prior distribution, derived for both perfect and imperfect age reporting. As an alternative to the Bayesian methodology, a classical estimator based on the maximum likelihood principle has also been discussed. Here, the age misreporting probability matrix has been constructed using a performance indicator, which incorporates the relative performance of estimators based on age when reported correctly instead of misreporting. The initial guess of performance indicators can either be empirically or theoretically derived. The method has been illustrated by using data on Empowered Action Group (EAG) states of India from National Family Health Survey-3 (2005-2006) to estimate the total marital fertility rates. The present study reveals through both a simulation and real-life set-up that the Bayesian estimation method has been more promising and reliable in estimating fertility rates, even in situations where age misreporting is higher than in case of classical maximum likelihood estimates.

Thermal errors caused by the influence of internal and external heat sources in machine tool structure can cause more than 50% of total machine tool inaccuracy. Therefore, research on thermal behavior of machine tool structures is crucial for successful manufacturing. This paper provides an insight into the modeling of highly nonlinear machine tool thermal errors using thermal transfer functions (TTF). The method is dynamic (uses machine tool thermal history) and its modeling and calculation speed is suitable for real-time applications. The method does not require interventions into the machine tool structure, uses very few additional gauges and solves separately each influence participating on thermal error. The paper focuses on the development of a robust thermal model sensitive to various machine tool thermal behavior nonlinearities with the help of minimum input information. Model was applied on real machine tool (portal milling centre) and was verified within a complicated electro-spindle revolution spectrum. Moreover, the said compensation model was applied on another machine tool to prove its robustness and portability among machines of the same type set and the results of the TTF model were compared with a model obtained via multiple linear regression (MLR) as a case study.

Therefore, research on thermal behavior of machine tool structures is crucial for successful manufacturing. This paper provides an insight into the modeling of highly nonlinear (increasing with the complexity of the structure) machine tool thermal behavior using thermal transfer functions This approach to modeling is dynamic (uses thermal history) and, due to its relative simplicity, it enables real-time calculations. The method uses very few additional gauges and solves separately each influence participating in the thermal error. The main objective of the article is to describe the estimation of angular deformations occurring at the tool center point due to thermal influences. Transfer functions are used for the identification and control of additional internal heat sources. The second aim is to compare modeling effort with approximation quality. A partial objective is to cover other nonlinearities occurring generally in machine tool thermal behavior. The approach has been verified on a closed quill (a simple and symmetrical machine tool part) and applied on a model of a machine tool structure which has been chosen as the least favorable from the thermal point of view.

In order to guarantee the accuracy of turntable angle measurement, a real-time compensation method for turntable positioning precision based on harmonic analysis is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the principle and feasibility of the real-time compensation method are analysed, and a detailed description of harmonic compensation is provided herein. Secondly, we analyse the relationships between the surface number of the polygon with the compensation order of the harmonic function and its corresponding compensation accuracy. The effects of the iterations number and the data width on calculation accuracy in the coordinate rotation digital computer (CORDIC) algorithm are analysed and the quantization models of the approximation error and rounding error of the CORDIC algorithm are established. Then, the calculation of the harmonic error function and real-time compensation processes are implemented on a field programmable gate array (FPGA) chip. The resource occupation and time delay of the phase angle calculation and the harmonic component calculation are discussed separately. Finally, the validity of the harmonic compensation method is proven through comparing the compensation effect with that of linear interpolation and the polynomial compensation method. The influences of the compensation order, the iterations number and the data width on the compensation results are demonstrated by simulation. A test platform with a laboratory-made FPGA circuit is built to evaluate the effect of real-time compensation with the harmonic function and the positioning error compensation can be performed within 760 ns. The results confirmed the effectiveness of the harmonic compensation method, revealing an improvement of the positioning precision from 54.21ʹʹ to 1.63ʹʹ, equivalent to 96.99% reduction in positioning error.

In a duration analysis of enterprises, as a rule there are determined four basic functions related to the time of their duration, i.e.: the density function; the distribution function; the survival function, and the hazard function. It turns out that the hazard function and its cumulative version are the key to understanding modern survival analysis. The aim of the paper is to indicate the best method of the estimation of the values of individual functions in survival analysis based on other functions. The paper provides compiled and classified information on particular functions used in the non-parametric duration analysis of enterprises. It examines some theoretical and practical problems related to the determination of, among others, the hazard function and the cumulative hazard function on the basis of data in cohort tables and the results of the estimation of the survival function with the use of the Kaplan- Meier method. The considerations included in the paper are illustrated with the results of analyses for enterprises established in the Łódzkie Voivodeship in 2001-2015 (including those which went into liquidation).

In this paper a new theorem about components of the mean squared error of Hierarchical Estimator is presented. Hierarchical Estimator is a machine learning meta-algorithm that attempts to build, in an incremental and hierarchical manner, a tree of relatively simple function estimators and combine their results to achieve better accuracy than any of the individual ones. The components of the error of a node of such a tree are: weighted mean of the error of the estimator in a node and the errors of children, a non-positive term that descreases below 0 if children responses on any example dier and a term representing relative quality of an internal weighting function, which can be conservatively kept at 0 if needed. Guidelines for achieving good results based on the theorem are brie discussed.

Opis:
This paper presents a new simple and accurate frequency estimator of a sinusoidal signal based on the signal autocorrelation function (ACF). Such an estimator was termed as the reformed covariance for half-length autocorrelation (RC-HLA). The designed estimator was compared with frequency estimators well-known from the literature, such as the modified covariance for half-length autocorrelation (MC-HLA), reformed Pisarenko harmonic decomposition for half-length autocorrelation (RPHD-HLA), modified Pisarenko harmonic decomposition for half-length autocorrelation (MPHD-HLA), zero-crossing (ZC), and iterative interpolated DFT (IpDFT-IR) estimators. We determined the samples of the ACF of a sinusoidal signal disturbed by Gaussian noise (simulations studies) and the samples of the ACF of a sinusoidal voltage (experimental studies), calculated estimators based on the obtained samples, and computed the mean squared error (MSE) to compare the estimators. The errors were juxtaposed with the Cramér-Rao lower bound (CRLB). The research results have shown that the proposed estimator is one of the most accurate, especially for SNR>25dB. Then the RC-HLA estimator errors are comparable to the MPHD-HLA estimator errors. However, the biggest advantage of the developed estimator is the ability to quickly and accurately determine the frequency based on samples collected from no more than five signal periods. In this case, the RC-HLA estimator is the most accurate of the estimators tested.

The purpose of this paper is to analyse the impact of foreign direct investments net inflows on changes in GDP value in Poland in the period between 1994 and 2012 with the use of the Cobb-Douglas production function. The paper consist of five parts. Parts I and II present some aspects of the FDI influence on economic growth from the theoretical and empirical point of view. Part III defines conditions indispensable for the positive FDI impact on the economy of the host country. Part IV outlines changes of FDI flows in Poland in the period of 1994-2012. Part V includes the main assumptions of the Cobb-Douglas production function and an estimate of changes in GDP value for Poland in the period 1994–2012 with the use of the VECM. The factors significant for economic growth are also identified, including the significance of the net FDI inflows. Eventually, the effect of gross fixed capital formation, employment, FDI net inflows, exports and R&D on changes in the GDP value are determined.
