    Opis:
    Purpose: The paper aims to assess the variation in the environmental quality of life in Poland's voivodships in 2021. The study uses indicators to monitor the links between the natural environment and society. They indicate how environmental conditions affect the quality of life and well-being of the population. Design/methodology/approach: The study used one of the taxonomic methods - the TOPSIS method, based on which the voivodships were divided into four classes characterised by similar levels of environmental quality of life. Findings: The study results showed that Podkarpackie, Lubuskie, Małopolskie and Warmińsko-Mazurskie voivodships, characterised by high natural values and relatively low environmental impact ratios compared to other voivodships and the national average, were in the best group due to the environmental quality of life. The last places belonged to the Pomorskie, Opolskie, Łódzkie and Śląskie Voivodships. Most of them are industrial, which means that the indicators of environmental impact, especially air pollution and collected waste, are relatively high and exceed the national average. Social implications: The research results presented in the article may be useful for the diagnosis of current results and the revision of the environmental policy of the entire country as well as their individual regions in the future. Originality/value: The article fits into contemporary debates on the effectiveness of implementing the concept of green economy as a tool for sustainable development.

    This article presents the most important aspects of the sustainable development policy and indicates the instruments that have an impact on its shaping. In addition, attention was drawn to the fact that issues related to sustainable development (mainly in the context of spatial planning and investment) and environmental protection are also discussed as leading topics in discussions on the quality of life in Europe. In the conclusions for the future, points were identified that prove to be the most important goals for the current and future development of Europe as a whole, namely: promoting sustainable spatial development; strengthening business location; infrastructure optimization; ensuring social stability in areas such as health, education and social policy; careful use of natural resources (promoting biodiversity and supporting material cycle optimization), i.e. helping to ensure that the natural foundations of life are available to the next generation as much as possible; continuation of advanced energy policy (reduction of CO2 emissions in line with target values); strengthening education (continuing to consolidate the education system, improving the conditions for employing teachers, as well as ensuring the financial stability of educational institutions); ensuring the safety of; effective positioning of regions (cooperation between regions that jointly implement key projects and take greater account of common interests at national level).

W artykule wykorzystano część wyników badań przeprowadzonych na potrzeby raportu wykonanego na zlecenie Wydziału Zarządzania Strategicznego Urzędu Marszałkowskiego Województwa Zachodniopomorskiego Czynniki podnoszenia jakości życia i dostępności do usług publicznych na obszarze województwa zachodniopomorskiego. W jego przygotowaniu aktywnie uczestniczyła autorka opracowania jako ekspert ds. jakości życia i zrównoważonego rozwoju. Raport był przygotowany od kwietnia do lipca 2014 roku. Podmiotem badań w artykule jest województwo zachodniopomorskie, a przedmiotem obiektywna jakość życia w zakresie uwarunkowań środowiskowych.
    Since some time now, an important factor reflecting on our quality of life is the quality of environment. The author is referring to the results of research on objective quality of live, conducted in West Pomeranian voivodeship and points out the strong and weak sides of environmental conditions. Furthermore, the author discusses factors that have contributed to such results using desk research and taxonomic analysis.

    This article aims to present the impact of air pollution on the quality of life of EU residents. With the aid of institutional-legal and statistical analysis an attempt has been undertaken to answer the following research questions: 1) negative concentrations whose pollution exceeds norms set out at EU levels, 2) causes of above-norm pollution concentrations and 3) impact of pollution on the health of Europeans. During the conducted research it was demonstrated that the quality of life of Europeans is being lowered by a continuing above-norm concentration of air pollution whose exposure is related to people feeling worse, numerous diseases related to the breathing system, circulation, nervous and even reproductive system as well as increased death rate and shortening of life expectancy. The estimated number of premature deaths in 2014 resulting from exposure to fine dust, ozone and carbon dioxide in the EU amounted to 487,600. As the investigation shows, the best quality of life, taking into consideration air quality, is afforded by Finland, Ireland and Sweden.

    ObjectivesAir pollution has become a critical environmental issue, which severely threatens the well-being of asthma patients. The quality of life of these patients, when exposed to air pollutants such as particulate matter 10 (PM10), has been poorly studied. The current research examined the association between the concentration of PM10 in the air and the quality of life of patients with asthma.Material and MethodsThe study group consisted of 300 adult asthma patients treated in 2 allergy outpatient clinics in Kraków, who declared they would not leave the city in the 14-day study period. Daily concentrations of PM10 from air monitoring stations were recorded over a period of 2 weeks, following which the patients filled out the standardized Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire (AQLQ) regarding the monitored period to assess the total quality of life and its 4 domains (symptoms, limitation of activity, emotional functioning and environmental stimuli).ResultsThe average PM10 exposure was 65.2 μg/m3 and only 30% of the patients were exposed to values of ≤50 μg/m3, i.e., the highest 24-h threshold value considered acceptable by the World Health Organization. The observed effect of an increased level of exposure to airborne PM10 was associated with reduced scores in AQLQ from 0.40 at the medium level to 0.46 at the high level, in comparison to the low level. The total score of the asthma-related quality of life and its domains showed poorer outcomes as the concentration of PM10 was increasing (every 0.08 pt per a 10 μg/m3 increase).ConclusionsThe increase in the concentration of PM10 in the air impacts on the overall quality of life and its particular domains in people with exceptional predispositions, such as patients with bronchial asthma. Physicians taking care of asthma patients should pay special attention to the quality of patient’s life in response to the course and control of that illness, in relation to air pollution.

    Obesity is an epidemic in the UAE. The obesity level in the UAE is one among the highest in the world. It is one of the leading health concerns in the country affecting people of all ages. The fat-rich fast-food, sedentary lifestyles, and harsh climatic conditions are the important causes of obesity that creates severe negative impacts on health and wellbeing of people. However, it is a controllable problem. If people cultivate healthy lifestyles and say no to fat-rich fast-stood and calorie-rich soft drinks, they can prevent becoming obese to a great extent. Collective efforts by governmental organizations, voluntary organizations, service agencies, media and educational institutions appear to be imperative to offset the growing problem of obesity in country and cultivating healthy lifestyles among people.

    Health related quality of life assessment is an topic in public health, especially in socially meaningful chronic diseases. Chronic diseases such as asthma reduce the patient’s quality of life significant. The influence of environmental factors on health has been interested researchers for many years also in the public health area. Nowadays, we know that the clinical symptoms of the disease is a result of genotype-environment interaction. Despite our reach data of environmental threats, studying their influence on health or chronic diseases course seems insufficient. Thus, the analysis of relations and environmental factors influence on the quality of life assessment of patients with asthma may supplement the knowledge of environment influence on a human being. Previous research show that changing dust in the air and pollution causes increase or decrease of allergic symptoms, whereas the relations of life quality assessment of patients with asthma with the environment influence is not unequivocal.

    Artykuł jest próbą prezentacji głównych wymiarów filozoficznego dyskursu na temat zrównoważonego rozwoju. Dotyczy takich kwestii, jak: - swoistość filozoficznego dyskursu w stosunku do perspektyw poznawczych nauk społecznych i ekonomicznych; - filozoficzne podstawy zasady zrównoważonego rozwoju; - filozoficzne ujęcia zrównoważonego rozwoju wraz z ich typologią (ze względu na kryteria ontologiczne, antropologiczne, aksjologiczne i historiozoficzne), - filozoficzne problemy zrównoważonego rozwoju (jakość życia, sprawiedliwość, racjonalność, postęp i utopia). W artykule są rozpatrywane zagadnienia potrzeby prowadzenia badań filozoficznych w zakresie zrównoważonego rozwoju, sposobów rozumienia pojęcia filozofii zrównoważonego rozwoju (w tym potrzeby konstruowania tego typu koncepcji filozoficznych) oraz sensowności realizacji projektu zrównoważonego rozwoju jako kolejnej wersji sfalsyfikowanej - zdaniem współczesnych filozofów - oświeceniowej filozofii społecznej.
    The article is trying to present main dimensions of philosophical discussion about sustainable development. It is touching issues like: - peculiarity of philosophical discussion in relation to the cognition perspectives of social and economical sciences; - philosophical basics of sustainable development principle; - philosophical depiction of sustainable development with its classification (including cognitional, antrophological, axiological and historical criteria), - philosophical problems of sustainable development (the quality of life, justice, rationality, progress and utopia). The article is considering the need to conduct philosophical researches in the area of sustainable development, ways of understanding the concept of sustainable development (including the needs of formulating such philosophical conceptions) and reasonableness of realization of sustainable development project as - in opinion of contemporary philosophers - another forgeable version of Enlightenment social philosophy.

W tych ogólnych założeniach i celach, zrównoważony rozwój napotyka na wiele praktycznych i mentalnych problemów, które hamują, bądź wręcz uniemożliwiają efektywne wprowadzanie tej koncepcji w życie.
    The article is about the conception of sustainable development settled in the context of culture and civilization changes. It can be taken as an alternative the further civilization development.The conception is a global strategy of the development. It relies on the inclusion of the natural environment into the social and economic development of a region, country, or in a global perspective, of the whole world. It assumes a long-lasting improvement of the quality of life of the present and future generations which is integrally associated with environmental improvement. It also shows the necessity of the spiritual growth and changes of the material aims of the development into immaterial ones. In all these aims and assumptions there are a lot of practical and mental problems in the sphere of sustainable development that retard and even make it impossible to put these conceptions effectively into life.

    The article discusses the rational and responsible shaping of landscapes that takes into account the moral aspects of the relationship between human beings and landscape. This subject matter is presented in the light of two ideas striving to achieve similar goals and similar approaches to achieving them. The first reflection refers to the concept of sustainable development, according to which the management of landscape regarded as part of the environment where people live should seek to ensure the best possible conditions for the existence of contemporary and future generations. Landscape satisfies many material and spiritual needs, thus enhancing the quality of human life. The attainment of a high quality of life by people is the fundamental objective of sustainable development. The second point of reference is the teaching of the Catholic Church with regard to the relationship between human beings and the natural environment, as presented in the Encyclical Laudato Si’ by Pope Francis. This text presents the Holy Father’s stance on the contemporary ecological crisis and its impact on the living conditions and ethical attitudes of people. The Pope observes that the provision of decent living conditions is necessary for every human being to properly exist and develop. Thus Francis indicates the necessity of looking for solutions to the currently common moral dilemmas, including the problem of reconciling environmental protection, including landscape preservation, with human development needs. The reflections in the encyclical are not only a manifestation the Pope’s concern for the Earth but they can also provide guidelines and an effective stimulus for shaping sustainable landscape.
    Artykuł podejmuje temat właściwego, tj. racjonalnego i odpowiedzialnego kształtowania krajobrazów, uwzględniającego moralne aspekty zależności człowiek-krajobraz. Problematyka ta jest przedstawiona w świetle dwóch idei, dążących do zbliżonych celów i posiadających wspólne płaszczyzny, jeśli chodzi o ich realizację. Pierwsza refleksja odwołuje się do koncepcji zrównoważonego rozwoju. Wedle niej, zarządzanie krajobrazem jako elementem środowiska życia człowieka, powinno zmierzać do zapewnienia zarówno współczesnym, jak i przyszłym pokoleniom jak najlepszych warunków do egzystencji. Krajobraz zaspokaja wiele materialnych i duchowych potrzeb ludzi, przez co wpływa na jakość ich życia. Z kolei osiągnięcie wysokiej jakości życia ludzi jest zasadniczym zamysłem zrównoważonego rozwoju. Drugi punkt odniesienia stanowi nauczanie Kościoła katolickiego w zakresie relacji człowiek-środowisko przyrodnicze, którego wyrazem jest encyklika Laudato Si’ Papieża Franciszka. Dokument prezentuje stanowisko Ojca Świętego wobec kwestii współczesnego kryzysu ekologicznego i jego wpływu na warunki życia i postawy moralne ludzi. Papież zwraca uwagę, iż dla właściwego bytu i rozwoju każdego człowieka niezbędne jest zapewnienie mu godziwych warunków życia. Wskazuje tym samym na konieczność poszukiwania rozwiązań dla powszechnych obecnie dylematów moralnych, jak pogodzić ochronę środowiska, w tym krajobrazu i potrzeby rozwojowe człowieka. Refleksje zawarte w encyklice są nie tylko przejawem troski Papieża o Ziemię jako o wspólny dom wszystkich ludzi, ale mogą stanowić wskazówki i skuteczny impuls do kształtowania zrównoważonego krajobrazu.

    Sociology and sustainable development share many interesting areas of inquiry that offer the potential for closer cooperation between these two disciplines. The aim of the article is to examine the connections between them. The article considers the most promising areas; i.e, environmental issues (environmental sociology), quality of life (which is the key issue for the social pillar of sustainable development), and poverty (poverty eradication is the primary goal of the UN sustainable development agenda). It seems, however, that the cooperation between sociology and sustainable development has stopped at the stage of potential interdisciplinarity.
    Między socjologią i zrównoważonym rozwojem istnieje wiele ciekawych wspólnych obszarów badań potencjalnie nadających się do ściślejszej współpracy. Celem artykułu jest pokazanie tych powiązań. W tekście wzięto pod uwagę obszary najbardziej obiecujące: sprawy związane ze środowiskiem (socjologię środowiskową), problematykę jakości życia (kluczowe zagadnienie dla społecznego filaru zrównoważonego rozwoju) i problematykę ubóstwa (likwidacja ubóstwa to podstawowy cel ONZ-owskich planów zrównoważonego rozwoju). Wydaje się jednak, że jak do tej pory współpraca między socjologią i zrównoważonym rozwojem zatrzymała się na stadium potencjalnej interdyscyplinarności.

    Obecne w literaturze wątki odpowiedzialności i troski o środowisko w wymiarze lokalnym i w codziennych powinnościach wskazują, że hasło zrównoważonego rozwoju jest bardzo aktualne. Podnoszenie znaczenia wspólnot lokalnych w tym obszarze działań, cechuje prawdziwa dbałość o środowisko, w odróżnieniu od tej, sterowanej centralnie przez państwo. Idea zrównoważonego rozwoju przedstawiona w artykule wpisuje się w działania podejmowane przez International Federation for Home Economics. Jest to jedna z głównych organizacji o charakterze globalnym działająca na polu domowej ekonomii. Stałym priorytetem w jej działalności w zakresie edukacji ekologicznej charakteryzującej się dbałością o jakość życia, jest bycie katalizatorem postępu w obecnych czasach, aktualizując swoje cele w krajach, z których wywodzą się jej członkinie i członkowie. W ostatnim okresie priorytetem tym stał się zrównoważony rozwój.
    The themes of responsibility and care for the environment in the local dimension and in everyday life are present in the literature and indicate that the slogan of sustainable development is very much up-to-date. The importance of local communities in this area of activity is growing. They are characterised by a genuine concern for the environment, unlike the one centrally controlled by the state. The idea of sustainable development presented in the article is part of the activities undertaken by the International Federation for Home Economics. It is one of the leading global organisations operating in the field of home economics. Being a catalyst for progress in line with the times when it is updating its objectives in the countries of its members is a constant priority in its environmental education activities, which are concerned with quality of life. Recently, sustainable development has become such a priority.

    The article was written by me and my students from the Faculty of Psychology and Humanities Academy of Krakow. Senior Clubs are a very good example of social capital as a network of social relationships between individuals who trust each other and have a reciprocal. People in the network tend to mutually support each other, help and exchange important information. Thanks to the participation in the Senior Clubs can contribute actively to prevent a serious threat occurring at the senior age, which is depression. According to the WHO, it is the fourth most serious health problem in the world, which are often the source of a signifi cant deterioration in mental functioning, physical and social disability, and suicide attempts. Depression in the elderly is more dependent on environmental factors than younger people. While younger people family burden found in about 80% in the elderly is at about 44%. This means that the depression at the senior age is much more driven by the social rather than biological factors compared with younger age groups. This also means that it is easier to prevent and treat using these social factors. One of the main causes of depression in the elderly is the depletion interaction with the environment, and reduced activity. Therefore, it is important to stimulate the activation of such persons, thereby reducing the risk of depression. Recent psychological research indicates a strong relationship of friendship with happiness and the length and quality of life. Friendship improves happiness through the creation of social support and a sense of belonging. The aim of our research presented in this article was to test the hypothesis that individuals who actively participate in the Senior Club are less depressed than those who do not participate. Our team conducted empirical research presented in this paper, allowed to confirm this hypothesis. Activity in the Senior Club provides activities, involvement and support of mental health, which may significantly prevent the development of depression. Of course, it is also probably the case that those who are already at risk of suffering from depression or her less likely to participate in the activities of the Senior Citizens Clubs. It is often associated with passivity, apathy and withdrawal from the social environment, and so often associated with symptoms of depression. However, even in such a situation, the primary treatment, usually bringing more interest in the world and people should encourage such people to actively participate in senior clubs. It is then treated as a kind of social therapy. Social and cultural activity in old age is a factor in increasing the quality of life, serving mental and physical health, increasing the level of happiness and reducing the level of suffering.
