Lower Vistula River
Opis:
The Lower Vistula River is a Polish part of inland waterways E40 that has a comparatively low waterway class (Ib – III; excluding Wloclawek Reservoir part – Va), and projects and works should be undertaken to improve the waterway class conditions. This also depends upon the ratification of the AGN agreement by Poland, which obliges the country to adapt the main waterways to at least the fourth class of navigability. A catalog of investment activities must contain environmental objectives due to the inclusion of Lower Vistula River in the Natura 2000 protected areas network. This research includes an analysis of the impact on the inland waterway transport of the investments included in the Vistula River Basin Management Plans (RBMP). These documents make it possible to rationally manage water resources (also in the waterway transport) and indicate actions aimed at maintaining them for future generations. Therefore, in line with the Water Framework Directive recommendations, all planned investments should have a minimal environmental impact. In the coming years, large-scale infrastructure investments are planned, which will allow the waterway transport conditions to be improved and the environmental goals of the Water Framework Directive (WFD) to be achieved.

Opis:
Artisanal mining employs many people across the globe. In Kenya, it provides vocational jobs which represent the livelihood of poor communities. In spite of the economic value that could be attached to the artisanal mining activities in Taita Taveta County, these activities have resulted in environmental degradation; thus, calling for necessary interventions. It is for this reason that this study intends to examine effective strategies that could be adopted to reduce environmental degradation in the county as a result of artisan mining. The key objective therefore is to test the feasibility and acceptability of community participation, partnerships, modern technology and quarry management strategies on the reduction of environmental degradation by artisan miners in Taita Taveta County. A descriptive case study research design was adopted, and the target population for the study was 451 registered artisan miners and 13 environmental bodies operating in the area. A simple random sampling technique was used to draw a sample of 218 artisan miners and 13 environmental body heads. Questionnaires were the main tool for data collection from which a response rate of 95% was achieved. The study deduced that community participation, partnerships, modern technology adoption and quarry management strategies, are key influences on the reduction of environmental degradation in the artisanal mining sector if adopted, going based on the high level of agreement and the reasoning exhibited among the artisan miners in the findings. The following policies may be inferred from the study: to set a framework to enable the community to participate in environmental conservation, to enhance partnerships between NGOs, CBOs, the Government and Universities within artisan mining areas, to introduce Government subsidies for modern technology for affordability and to introduce a framework for quarry management.

Opis:
Environmental management, understood as the science and practical activity is designing, controlling and coordinating environmental management processes. Processes, such as the use, protection, and development of the environment run in the social, economic and natural range [8]. Environmental management covers such areas as, widely understood ecological education of society through the application of ecological management tools and search for the optimal economic donated to its components. In order to be able to optimally manage the environment components numerous methods and techniques that are designed to optimize decisions in the field are used. One of the tools in environmental management is SWOT analysis (S-Strengths, W-Weaknesses, O-Opportunities, T-Threats). The SWOT analysis is a very good tool to build a model of environmental strategies. When building a model, it is important to use the dendritic tree, including decision theory in order to optimize it and build different scenarios of development of the topic, company or economic sector, due to the economic uncertainity and chaos that surrounds us. It is implemented to all events from the sphere of human activity as an efficient method to identify the strengths and weaknesses as well as opportunities and threats. It provides basic information on the significant internal and external factors that have influence on the development strategy of the organization, research topic, region or trade. Proper identification of these factors can develop a model (action strategy) and ability to make key decisions for the future.
