Stałym priorytetem w jej działalności w zakresie edukacji ekologicznej charakteryzującej się dbałością o jakość życia, jest bycie katalizatorem postępu w obecnych czasach, aktualizując swoje cele w krajach, z których wywodzą się jej członkinie i członkowie. W ostatnim okresie priorytetem tym stał się zrównoważony rozwój.
The themes of responsibility and care for the environment in the local dimension and in everyday life are present in the literature and indicate that the slogan of sustainable development is very much up-to-date. The importance of local communities in this area of activity is growing. They are characterised by a genuine concern for the environment, unlike the one centrally controlled by the state. The idea of sustainable development presented in the article is part of the activities undertaken by the International Federation for Home Economics. It is one of the leading global organisations operating in the field of home economics. Being a catalyst for progress in line with the times when it is updating its objectives in the countries of its members is a constant priority in its environmental education activities, which are concerned with quality of life. Recently, sustainable development has become such a priority.

The article is an attempt to define the problems of holistic thinking in terms of environmental education. Development of appropriate methodology in this matter should ensure a better understanding of the environment, but also indicate the mistakes made so far in the process of environmental education. All these activities should create a new quality in the issues of land management. This should lead to more effective crisis management in the natural environment on the ideals of sustainable development. Preparation of appropriate methods of teaching about the resources of the natural environment, consistent with the idea of holistic education, becoming one of the most important goals we are currently facing. Achieving these objectives is necessary in light of the tasks that are put in the idea of sustainable development. Develop a unified methodology for the holistic environmental education, environmental philosophy and environmental ethics should ultimately affect not only the state of knowledge regarding these issues but also create future substantive grounds for studies of the process of pro-environmental attitudes.

The balanced development is at present the challenge for creating the awareness not only of the particular society, but also in the widest sense for the whole generation of the people. Undertaking such issues, the role of education during all stages of teaching, should be taken into consideration, especially, in the range of propagating the idea of responsibility for the natural environment with eco-development. It is a specially important element of teaching according to the principle of pro-environmental education to undertake all actions in the educational centers, which aim is to stimulate the environmental awareness of young people as well as to prepare the pedagogical staff to the realization of the wide range of methods and strategies that allow to get the best results during the process of educating young generation. The appropriate undertakings should be realized in order to support the education in the process of introducing the right value system and positive attitudes towards realization of the sixth Environmental politics of the EU Programme. With the connection to the carried on initial research associated with the knowledge about the balanced development among high school students, analysing the results of the questionnaires, the answer to the question whether students possess any kind of knowledge on balanced development was to be learned.

In this report we point out the requirement of local communities for environmental education of society that results from accession of Poland to the project titled „Decade for Sustainable Development 2005-2014”. The paper includes results of the surveys carried out among students, teachers and officers of communes that reveal the role of environmental education in schools, communes and universities. The results demonstrate that environmental education should become connected with actions in aid of both natural and social local environments.
W pracy wskazano na zapotrzebowanie środowiska lokalnego na edukację środowiskową społeczeństwa, wynikające z przystąpienia Polski do udziału w projekcie Dekada Edukacji dla Zrównoważonego Rozwoju 2005-2014. Praca zawiera wyniki badań ankietowych studentów, nauczycieli i pracowników gmin wskazujące miejsce i rolę edukacji środowiskowej w szkole, gminie oraz na studiach przyrodniczych i pedagogicznych. Wyniki świadczą o konieczności zbliżenia trendów kształcenia przyrodniczego do praktycznych działań na rzecz lokalnego środowiska przyrodniczego i społecznego.

Społeczność lokalna należy do pewnej zbiorowości terytorialnej, stanowi grupę charakteryzującą się pewnymi cechami wynikającymi z faktu zamieszkiwania na określonym terenie. Do grup terytorialnych można zaliczyć: wieś, miasto, osiedle, region, gminę, powiat, województwo a nawet państwo. Te zbiorowości ze względu na zamieszkiwaną okolicę łączą albo dzielą cechy środowiska geofizycznego, jak również historyczno-społeczne aspekty dziedzictwa kulturowego. Kierując się koniecznością oceny działania szkoły środowiskowej przeprowadzono badania na dwóch z założenia różnych populacjach uczniów. Wzięto pod uwagę szkoły w małej miejscowości i szkoły z dużych miejskich osiedli.
The local community belongs to the certain territorial community and constitutes the group that can be characterized by certain features as the consequence of living on the specified area. The territorial communities involve: the village, the city, the housing estate, the region, the administrative district, the district, the province or even the country. These communities due to the inhabited areas connect or disconnect the geophysical environmental values, not to mentioned historical and social of the aspects culture heritage.

Udział Polski w ogólnoświatowej Dekadzie Edukacji dla Rozwoju Zrównoważonego 2005-2014 (Decade of Education for Sustainable Development 2005 - 2014) wymaga określenia świadomości i poglądów społeczności lokalnych w odniesieniu do ochrony środowiska i idei rozwoju zrównoważonego. Praca jest próbą określenia stanu świadomości i poglądów społeczeństwa w Polsce w drugim roku Dekady, na przykładzie województwa mazowieckiego. Wyniki badań wskazująca niezbyt wysokie zainteresowanie lokalnych społeczności problemami ochrony środowiska i rozwoju zrównoważonego. Istnieje konieczność opracowania przez gminy programu edukacji środowiskowej dla społeczeństwa uwzględniającego lokalne uwarunkowania. Należy wzmóc aktywność społeczeństwa w działaniach na rzecz środowiska włączając je do realizacji lokalnych projektów z udziałem, instytucji prowadzących edukację formalną i nieformalną na terenie gminy.
Poland's participation in the world- wide Decade of Education for Sustainable Development 2005-2014 requires a recognition of the awareness level and views of local communities in relation to environmental protection and sustainable development. The paper is an attempt of determining the awareness level and points of view of the public in the second year of the Decade on the example of the Masovia Voievodeship. The results of the studies prove a relatively low level of interest of local communities in environmental protection and sustainable development issues. There is a need to develop environmental education programmes by municipalities which take into account local settings. Public activity in environmental protection aimed initiatives should be strengthened through involvement in local projects with the support of local organizations dealing with formal and informal education in municipalities.

Opis:
Economic development of rural areas guarantees stable employment for the local inhabitants and is prerequisite for implementing investments aimed at environmental protection. This article contains a number of examples of actions taken in compliance with the concept of sustainable development in the fields that represent the pillars of economic, environmental and social governance. In addition, the article presents objectives and conditions for the economic development of rural areas in the European Union and Poland. Attention was devoted to the growth of agritourism – especially in the context of sustainable tourism. The authors described the criteria for human resources development as well as the perception of villages as a place where local communities live and work. In addition, the possibilities to produce healthy food were discussed, as well as the methods of obtaining energy from alternative sources and environmentally-friendly technologies of waste treatment. The importance of wide-spread environmental education among rural communities for sustainable development was emphasised.
Rozwój ekonomiczny terenów rolniczych gwarantuje stabilizację zawodową mieszkańców wsi oraz warunkuje działalność inwestycyjną w ochronę środowiska. W artykule opisano przykłady działań zgodnych z ideą zrównoważonego rozwoju w dziedzinach reprezentujących filary ładów: ekonomicznego, środowiskowego i społecznego. Scharakteryzowano cele i uwarunkowania rozwoju gospodarczego terenów wiejskich w Unii Europejskiej i w Polsce. Zwrócono uwagę na rozwój agroturystyki, szczególnie w kontekście zrównoważonej turystyki. Przedsta-wiono kryteria rozwoju kapitału ludzkiego oraz postrzeganie wsi jako miejsca życia i pracy społeczności lokalnych. Omówiono możliwości produkcji zdrowej żywności, pozyskiwanie energii z alternatywnych źródeł, ekologicznej metody oczyszczania ścieków. Podkreślono rolę powszechnej edukacji ekologicznej społeczeństwa wiejskiego dla zrównoważonego rozwoju.

Purpose: Nowadays environmental education associated with sustainable development presents a critical social challenge. The objective of this study was to identify and assess the interest in sustainable development, along with initiatives undertaken in this respect, by the students of selected university courses. The sample consisted of the students of management, who, due to the specific character of their education, will prospectively manage organizations or become entrepreneurs, i.e. will become responsible for setting the trends for the development of organizations. Design/methodology/approach: The subject matter of the present study pertains to environment-friendly attitudes of the students of selected universities in Lublin. The study was conducted by means of a diagnostic poll which was developed on the basis of the review of literature. Findings: The analysis of the results of the study revealed that respondents’ awareness regarding the impact of individuals upon the environment is strong. However, certain shortages were observed with regard to the impact of enterprises upon the natural environment. Research limitations/implications: It seems advisable to conduct this research also with students from other faculties. Practical implications: It seems advisable to commence environmental education during undergraduate studies so that students recognize the impact of enterprises upon the natural environment as early as possible. Originality/value: The article contains new research results about environmental education associated with sustainable development, which were conducted based on the self-developed questionnaire.

W polskim prawie oświatowym podstawa programowa określa, obowiązujący na danym etapie edukacyjnym zestaw treści nauczania oraz umiejętności, które muszą być uwzględnione w programach szkolnych w celu ujednolicenia kryteriów oceniania i wymagań egzaminacyjnych. W artykule dokonano uproszczonej analizy nowej, mającej obowiązywać od 1 września 2009r. „Podstawy programowej dla gimnazjów i szkół ponadgimnazjalnych, których ukończenie umożliwia przystąpienie do egzaminu maturalnego”, pod kątem obecności treści umożliwiających realizację idei zrównoważonego rozwoju. Badałem również zgodność założeń podstawy programowej z Międzynarodową Strategią Edukacji Środowiskowej, Polską Strategią Edukacji Ekologicznej oraz Strategią Edukacji dla Zrównoważonego Rozwoju EKG ONZ. Analiza wykazała m.in., że nowa podstawa programowa zawiera podstawowy zakres treści umożliwiających realizację założeń zrównoważonego rozwoju głównie w ramach przedmiotów przyrodniczych – biologia, geografia, chemia. W pozostałych przedmiotach problematyka ta została słabo zasygnalizowana bądź też całkowicie pominięta. Nie uwzględnienie treści ekologicznych w znacznej części przedmiotów decyduje o tym, że nowa Podstawa programowa pozostaje w sprzeczności z omawianymi strategiami i w niewielkim stopniu umożliwia przygotowanie społeczeństwa do realizacji koncepcji zrównoważonego rozwoju.
In the Polish education law the program principles define, valid on the given education stage, education and skills package, that have to be included in the school programs to unify the criteria of the assessment and examination regulations. In this article I have done the simplified analysis of the new “Program basis for the junior high school and high schools finishing of which gives the possibility to take the matriculation exams”, which will be in force from the 1 of September 2009. The analysis was done from the point of view of the presence of the content giving the possibility of the sustainable development idea realization. I have also studied the accordance of the program basis’ guidelines with the International Strategy of the Environmental Education, Polish Strategy of the Ecological Education and Education Strategy for the Sustainable Development UNECE. The analysis have shown, that the new program basis contains the basic range of matter giving the possibility of the sustainable development realization mainly within the framework of the natural sciences – biology, geography, chemistry. In other subjects this issues were poorly signalized or completely omitted. Not complying the ecological matters in the considerable part of the subjects decides that the new Program Basis is in the conflict with the aforementioned strategies and in the slight degree gives the possibility to prepare the society to the realization of the sustainable development conception.

The submitted work partly describes the historical and actual trends of the introduction of targeted environmental edification at universities based on the framework of Slovakian sustainable development as well as its enhancement of quality educational processes. There has been a need to accentuate environmental consciousness and to bring closer a current state in an incorporating of more environmental and quality aspects for the education process at technical universities. The article emphasizes continuous development of observed problems and introduces the possible future visions from the point of reorganization and tending of study fields. This reorganization requires very a sensitive approach because duplications or triplicities can frequently occur in the environmental education of individual subjects. For this reason students’ interest and ability to learn better can gradually decrease and consequently, results can become worse. Upon graduation, students may not be as well prepared to face the strong competition of the labour market in the Slovak Republic as well as in European Union countries.

Opis:
The concept as the system concept is arousing the sustainable development a lot doubts by comparing expressions in the name about contrary meanings. This notion coming originally from the forest administration region, in the 21st century immanently is connected with the ethicaleconomic concept of essential needs and with the idea of limited possibilities of the environmental global system. Accurately and briefly essence of the problem of exaggerated consuming the natural environment and intensifying antropopression is returning the determination “border of height”. Poland undergoing a systemic transformation so far more has common to the imitative modernization than the sustainable development. Hence also not there is a role of the education for overrating: natural, ecological, sozological and environmental in action to his thing. The both formal and unofficial education is shaping desired socially needs, attitudes and patterns of behaviour, including them in expected and useful environmentally and ecologically moral values and ethical principles. Based on not next to formulate it is possible strategies of education, environment-friendly action which would be well up to ecohumanistic existence. Concluding, success of the sustainable development – not only economies – is becoming possible thanks to the knowledge: natural, ecological, sozological, economic and ethical.
Koncepcja zrównoważonego rozwoju jako koncepcja systemowa wzbudza wiele wątpliwości poprzez zestawienie w nazwie wyrazów o sprzecznych znaczeniach. Pojęcie to, pochodząc pierwotnie z leśnictwa, w XXI wieku immanentnie związane jest z etyczno-ekonomiczną koncepcją podstawowych potrzeb i ideą ograniczonych możliwości globalnego systemu ekologicznego. Trafnie i skrótowo meritum problemu nadmiernego zużywania środowiska naturalnego i nasilającej się antropopresji oddaje określenie „granice wzrostu”. Polska, przechodząc transformację systemową, jak dotąd więcej ma wspólnego z modernizacją imitacyjną niż ze zrównoważonym rozwojem. Stąd też nie do przecenienia jest rola edukacji: przyrodniczej, ekologicznej, sozologicznej i środowiskowej w działaniach na jego rzecz. Edukacja, zarówno formalna, jak i nieformalna, kształtuje pożądane społecznie potrzeby, postawy i wzory zachowań, ujmując je w oczekiwane i przydatne środowiskowo i ekologicznie wartości moralne i zasady etyczne. W oparciu o nie z kolei formułować można strategie działań wychowawczych, proekologicznych, które zorientowane byłyby na egzystencję ekohumanistyczną. Konkludując, powodzenie zrównoważonego rozwoju – nie tylko gospodarki – staje się możliwe dzięki wiedzy: przyrodniczej, ekologicznej, sozologicznej, ekonomicznej i etycznej.

Both the development of the civilization today as well as the lifestyle of the society based on the consumption do not always involve the behaviors dealing with providing the mental picture of lives according to the laws of nature and its respect. The causes of this situation may result from a variety of educational negligence and the materialistic lifestyle created by the mass media. The level of consciousness can be significantly improved due to the competent preparation of the future teachers to realize the issues of the ecology and of the “sustainable development” in the educational process. There was an investigation carried out to find out the level of the respondents’ knowledge and to get the comprehensive knowledge on the required problem, i.e. if and to what degree the students of the natural science specializations were prepared to realize the issues of the sustainable development. The number of 297 students was involved in the investigation. They represented the following specializations: biology, geography, and chemistry in their universities.
