Opis:
Modelling, solution, control and even design of many ecological and engineering systems involve dealing with nonlinear partial differential equations of which analytic solutions are rarely available and numerical approach with or without linearization, or approximation is inevitable most of the time. In this paper the possibility of analysing such systems by using a fairly new method known as Differential Taylor (DT) Transform and its advantages are proved. The results obtained by this method are compared with the experimental results and shown to be within good agreement with them. It is emphasised that DT Transform is not effective for only filtration systems, but can also be used equally well for absorption, heat and mass transfer, convective diffusion and similar systems.

Każdy system ratowniczy statku powietrznego ma za zadanie uratować załogę (pilota) w przypadku wystąpienia sytuacji awaryjnej podczas całego zakresu lotu z wykorzystaniem fotela katapultowego. Proces ten jest bardzo trudny i złożony, a wynika to z faktu, że ma on zazwyczaj miejsce w sytuacjach ekstremalnych dla zdrowia i życia pilota. W artykule dokonano próby oceny współczesnych systemów ratowniczych w oparciu o fotele katapultowe K-36, K-37, ACES II, Martin-Baker Mk.14 i Mk.16.
Each aircraft rescue system is designed to save the crew (pilot) in the event of an emergency over the entire range of flight using the ejector seat. This process is very difficult and complex, and this follows from the fact that it usually takes place in the extreme situations for the health and life of the pilot. The article attempts to assess the contemporary systems of emergency on the basis of ejector seats K-36, F-37, ACES II, Martin-Baker Mk.14 and Mk.16.

Given the most competitive nature of global business environment, effective engineering innovation is a critical requirement for all levels of system lifecycle development. The society and community expectations have increased beyond environmental short term impacts to global long term sustainability approach. Sustainability and engineering competence skills are extremely important due to a general shortage of engineering talent and the need for mobility of highly trained professionals [1]. Engineering sustainable complex systems is extremely important in view of the general shortage of resources and talents. Engineers implement new technologies and processes to avoid the negative environmental, societal and economic impacts. Systems thinking help engineers and designers address sustainable development issues with a global focus using leadership and excellence. This paper introduces the Systems Engineering (SE) methodology for designing complex and more sustainable business and industrial solutions, with emphasis on engineering excellence and leadership as key drivers for business sustainability. The considerable advancements achieved in complex systems engineering indicate that the adaptation of sustainable SE to business needs can lead to highly sophisticated yet widely useable collaborative applications, which will ensure the sustainability of limited resources such as energy and clean water. The SE design approach proves critical in maintaining skills needed in future capable workforce. Two factors emerged to have the greatest impact on the competitiveness and sustainability of complex systems and these were: improving skills and performance in engineering and design, and adopting SE and human systems integration (HSI) methodology to support sustainability in systems development. Additionally, this paper provides a case study for the application of SE and HSI methodology for engineering sustainable and complex systems.

Much has been written about how the world has changed and continues to change at an incredibly rapid pace. Much has also been written about globalization, population demands, water quality, waste management, and maw more oldie issues that confront human kind throughout the world. It is not the authors' purpose in this paper to repeal the familiar maxim: civil engineering education must change to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world. Instead, the authors clarify the very real risks of the vectors ofpsychological inertia, and describe how systems analysis and the theory of inventive problem solving (TRIZ) justify substantive change in civil engineering education and how that could be accomplished.

The main purpose of this article is to present the structure of a tactical air force, on the example of the Polish Tactical Air Force, in a form of a technical system. This kind of technical system presents the technical point of view and organizationally bonds currently existing systems, objects (facilities) and components that are included into the Polish Tactical Air Force. The authors consider the Polish Tactical Air Force as the main analyses domain of this article. The model of presented system is mainly focused on operators’ organization and operation system of military aircraft, which are considered as technical objects (facilities) in a tactical air force. At the beginning of this article, the Polish Tactical Air Force is placed in more complex systemic structures. Then, the authors use the systems methodology, systems engineering, technical object-oriented (facility-oriented) approach and the matrix of the Model of Generalized Technical System to describe the Tactical Air Force System and present it via the model of such a system. The following model is based on a tree-shaped scheme divided into five levels of decomposition. The Model of Tactical Air Force System (as the “final product” of authors’ considerations over the selected analyses domain) has a considerable contribution to systems’ development in the Polish Armed Forces. The above-mentioned systems’ development could lead to greater progress in the Polish military as well as in systemic ideas. The implementation of the systems methodology in the design process of a new system, performed in a tactical air force, is an example of technical object systems engineering.

W niektórych dziedzinach istnieją już alternatywy dla naturalizmu metodologicznego. Jednakże niewiele osób spoza danej dziedziny zna te alternatywy lub wie, jak są wykorzystywane. Niekiedy nawet sami przedstawiciele tych dziedzin stosują te nienaturalistyczne metodologie, nie wiedząc, że nie są one spójne z naturalizmem metodologicznym. W artykule dokonujemy krótkiego przeglądu dziedzin, w których — zgodnie z naszą wiedzą — występują metodologie niezależne od naturalizmu.
Some fields already incorporate alternatives to methodological naturalism. However, few people outside the field are familiar with these alternatives or how they are used. Sometimes these non-naturalistic methodologies are being used without the participants’ cognizance that the methodology is not methodologically naturalistic. Here, we show a smattering of fields that we are aware of that have touched upon methodologies that don’t depend on naturalism.

This paper is a presentation of landslide monitoring, early warning and remediation methods recommended for the Polish Carpathians. Instrumentation included standard and automatic on-line measurements with the real-time transfer of data to an Internet web server. The research was funded through EU Innovative Economy Programme and also by the SOPO Landslide Counteraction Project. The landslides investigated were characterized by relatively low rates of the displacements. These ranged from a few millimetres to several centimetres per year. Colluviums of clayey flysch deposits were of a soil-rock type with a very high plasticity and moisture content. The instrumentation consisted of 23 standard inclinometers set to depths of 5–21 m. The starting point of monitoring measurements was in January 2006. These were performed every 1–2 months over the period of 8 years. The measurements taken detected displacements from several millimetres to 40 cm set at a depth of 1–17 m. The modern, on-line monitoring and early warning system was installed in May 2010. The system is the first of its kind in Poland and only one of several such real-time systems in the world. The installation was working with the Local Road Authority in Gorlice. It contained three automatic field stations for investigation of landslide parameters to depths of 12–16 m and weather station. In-place tilt transducers and innovative 3D continuous inclinometer systems with sensors located every 0.5 m were used. It has the possibility of measuring a much greater range of movements compared to standard systems. The conventional and real-time data obtained provided a better recognition of the triggering parameters and the control of geohazard stabilizations. The monitoring methods chosen supplemented by numerical modelling could lead to more reliable forecasting of such landslides and could thus provide better control and landslide remediation possibilities also to stabilization works which prevent landslides

The objective of this paper is to presents results and conclusions from landslide monitoring and early warning methods implemented by the author for road and infrastructure stabilization projects. Research present monitoring for 23 Carpathian landslides and 8 counteraction projects. Implemented instrumentation besides standard monitoring methods included automatic on-line measurements with real-time transfer of landslide data to the Internet. The initial site investigations were funded under the Landslide Counteraction Project (2005–2009). Standard monitoring measurements was financed by author and Poltegor-Institute (2006–2015). Real-time measurements were realized inside the EU Innovative Economy Programme (2008–2013). These measurements are conducted and financed by the author till now. The instrumentation consists of 26 standard inclinometers to depths of 5–21 m. Up to Fifty five series of measurements performed 4–9 times a year from 2006 till now detected displacement from several millimetres to 49 cm. These were observed at depths of 1–17 m. Modern automatic, early warning, real time system was installed in May 2010. The system is the first of its kind in Poland and one of several such a systems in the world. The installation was carried out in consultation with the Local Road Authority in Gorlice. It contained three automatic field stations investigating landslide parameters to the depths of 12–16 m and the weather station. The displacements were measured by in-place inclinometers, and innovative 3D continuous inclinometer systems with sensors located every 0.5 m. It has possibility to measure much greater range of movements compare to the standard systems. The obtained data allowed better recognition of geohazards triggering parameters and control of landslide stabilization works. It included definition of risk conditions. The early-warning about the risk to the road owner and the Carpathian Branch of Polish Geological Survey were implemented. Chosen monitoring methods and numerical modelling could help in forecasting of the landslide movement for estimation of remediation possibilities and improve effectiveness of stabilization works. However, landslide stabilization works are usully difficult and should be connected with control monitoring measurements.

Solution of the problem of limiting the spread of the dynamic and acoustic emissions from rail and road traffic requires application of new elastomeric materials are characterized by both high acoustic insulation as well as being part of vibroisolation system between the source of vibration associated with the movement of vehicles and construction engineering structure.In the new solutions of vibro- and sound-proof, isolation based on the new elastomer materials should be taken into account a strong correlation between physico-mechanical properties of these material and the values of static and dynamic load, which effect on these materials. Another problem, which is associated with the use of elastomer materials, is the influence of the volume of used item on their physico-mechanical parameters. Therefore, the use of elastomer materials in vibro- and sound-proof isolation systems requires at the stage of selecting of materials a number of studies that will allows specifying the properties of materials for a specific application. A properly conducted process of selection of materials will help to achieve the desired effect, which is to build a well-functioning vibro- and sound-proof isolation system. Without a properly conducted process of selection of materials can be achieved counterproductive result. In the paper, the results of experimental studies carried out to determine the physicomechanical elastomer material that could be used as a flexible bearing in structural engineering constructions are presented. Flexible nodes bearing can be classified as the latest generation of vibroisolation systems. The studies were also performed to assess the possibility of using such materials in sound-proof isolation in concert halls and conference rooms. In the paper, the new methodology of assessment of physico-mechanical elastomer materials that could be a standard for the design of vibro- and sound-proof isolation systems and based on such materials in the newly designed civil engineering structures.

W artykule przedstawiono wybrane analityczne metody detekcji i lokalizacji nieszczelności w gazociągach, z uwzględnieniem kryteriów, którymi należy się kierować przy ich wyborze. Przedstawiono podstawowe informacje na temat systemu teleinformatycznego stosowanego w gazownictwie, z opisem metod transmisji sygnałów pomiarowych. W ostatniej części przedstawiono dotychczas przeprowadzone badania związane z systemami detekcji oraz analizę możliwości ich wsparcia systemami teleinformatycznymi.
The paper presents some methods of leak detection and localization in long range gas pipelines. The criteria of choosing the right detection system were discussed. The basic information about telemetric systems and the transmission methods of the measured data used in gas industry have i been presented. The last part of the paper presents the authors research results and the possibilities of supporting such systems by existing telemetric systems.

The paper presents issues related to the implementation of back-up short-circuit protection in the final sections of an underground medium voltage distribution network. The difficulties may arise from regulatory requirements regarding the operation time of protection devices in potentially explosive areas and relatively low values of short-circuit currents compared with load currents. Sample calculations results have been presented to illustrate the problems of selecting current settings of short-circuit protection. A method to overcome these problems by using transformer stations with a circuit breaker on the primary side has been shown.
W artykule przedstawiono trudności związane z z rezerwowaniem zabezpieczeń przed skutkami zwarć międzyfazowych w końcowych odcinkach dołowych sieci średniego napięcia. Trudności te mogą wynikać z wymagań normatywnych dotyczących czasu działania zabezpieczeń w pomieszczeniach zagrożonych wybuchem oraz stosunkowo niewielkich wartości prądów zwarciowych w porównaniu z prądami roboczymi.
