Opis:
Subject and purpose of work: The aim of the study is to identify methodological problems, which may be encountered during the preparation of the energy balance of a territorial unit, along with indications of ways to solve them. Materials and methods: Problems were identified during the preparation of the energy balance for two selected rural communes and then they were investigated with reference to the literature on this subject. Results: Estimating the energy demand of a local government unit requires proper identification of the groups of energy consumers, divided into facilities owned or co-owned by communes and ones independent from commune authorities. The latter group is divided further, into households, businesses, farms. For each of the users different methods of obtaining data may be needed: a survey and analysis of statistical data, analysis of financial documents, evaluation of the buildings’ age. Generally, however, preparing an energy balance statement requires many simultaneous approaches, and the combination of multi-criterion analysis provides the most reliable picture of the problem. Conclusions: The scope of the data needed to compile an energy balance statement for local government units, depends on the purpose of the developed analysis. Methodological handbooks and training materials on this subject are helpful, but the developed methodologies may need to be modified and adapted to specific conditions.
Przedmiot i cel pracy: Celem pracy jest wskazanie problemów metodycznych, na jakie napotkać można podczas sporządzania bilansu energetycznego jednostki terytorialnej, wraz ze wskazaniami sposobów ich rozwiązania. Materiały i metody: Problemy zidentyfikowano podczas sporządzania bilansu energetycznego dwu wybranych gmin wiejskich, a następnie skonfrontowano z literaturą przedmiotu. Najczęściej jednak sporządzenie bilansu energetycznego wymaga stosowania wielu podejść równocześnie, a połączenie wyników analizy wielokryterialnej daje najbardziej rzetelny obraz badanego problemu. Wnioski: Zakres danych, potrzebnych do sporządzenia bilansu energetycznego jednostki samorządu terytorialnego, zależy od celu opracowania analizy. Poradniki metodyczne i materiały szkoleniowe na ten temat są pomocne, jednak opracowane metodyki mogą wymagać modyfikacji i dostosowania do konkretnych warunków.

The European Union undertakes numerous activities to implement a common energy policy for all Member States. However, since the countries in question have different energy resources, geographical location and terrain, unifi cation of national policies at EU level is a particularly arduous and difficult process. This article focuses on the analysis of energy sectors in Austria, Germany, Poland and Sweden. These countries were chosen because they offer considerable diversity, having different energy resources, geographical location, climatic conditions, as well as a different genesis of shaping their energy policy over the years. The analysis showed that the energy sectors in Poland, Germany, Austria and Sweden operate completely differently and rely on different energy resources. In Sweden, electricity mainly comes from hydropower and nuclear energy, while energy from coal is not produced at all. In Austria, coal is also not extracted, and the production of electricity is based mainly on renewable sources, and above all on hydropower. Germany is one of the countries with the highest level of coal mining in the world, therefore electricity is obtained mainly from this source, but also from nuclear energy and increasingly from renewable sources, mainly wind, biofuel and solar energy. Poland is among the world’s leading producers of coal, and obtaining electricity from this source accounts for as much as 80% in Poland; the rest comes from renewable sources, mainly wind energy, then biofuels, hydro energy and natural gas.

The development of motorisation involves using bigger amounts of fuels. These fuels are, until now, mainly petroleum. However, the fuels of bio origin must be used as well. It follows from the necessity of ensuring CO2 balance and from the fact that oil sources sooner or later will become exploited. Not less important is the fact that, principally, it is difficult to change the proportions of petrol and diesel oil extracted from crude oil, and the use of diesel oil increases proportionally faster than petrol. Therefore, it is necessary to use bio additives in diesel oil. One of such additives is dense alcohols. The aim of the present work is to determine the energy balance of diesel engine powered by diesel oil and butanol mixture. The work field includes making of energy balance of the engine in its characteristic points responsive 13 phase ESC test as well as determining on this basis the consolidated values concerning the differences in the engine energy balance. It has been proved, that powering the engine by mineral diesel oil with doped butanol (20% v/v) does not lead to essential differences in the energy balance of the engine- which does not mean, that the essential differences are absent in the particular characteristic points of the engine. It requires more detailed explanation (in the further research works) because losses in the combustion process do not show differences, but in the other balance components the differences are shown.

Opis:
This paper addresses the effect of a winter garden in a passive detached house on its energy parameters. In order to carry out the study, it was necessary to design a dwelling building compliant with the passive construction standards. The house was designed as a detached two-storey building with a pitched roof and no basement, constructed using traditional brick structure of double-layer walls. The building was intended for construction in north-western Poland, Central Europe, in Pomerania Region. Compliance with the requirements of passive building standards allowed for the use of a buffer zone in the form of a winter garden. Within the project, the garden was designed as an enclosed unconditioned area located at the southern side of the living room. In the winter garden, there are ventilation openings and air inlets intended stay closed during the autumn-winter season. However, in the summer months, they are necessarily opened to provide air circulation. This solution will help to avoid overheating and achieving tropical temperatures inside the garden in the summer. Additionally, there are white venetian blinds used on the garden’s vertical outside walls and colourful roof marquise. For the purpose of the study, a winter garden was designed in the form of a 4.36 m x 3.03 m rectangle with a pent roof and slope inclination of 25°. Its design is based on a mullion and transom facade system. It consists of 50 mm wide profiles and double-glazed windows. The calculations related to the energy balance were performed for the two adopted variants. The heat gains and losses as well as dynamic parameters and heat demand were evaluated. It was found that the winter garden has no significant influence on the temperature conditions in the building. This applies primarily to a small part of the facade to which it is adjacent. In addition, the effect of the adopted monthly calculation methodology on the obtained parameters was shown. In general, the addition of a winter garden to the building reduced the overall demand for space heating and ventilation in the heated area during the year by more than 30%. In the case of the second variant, the duration of the heating period was also reduced by almost 230 hours. This also resulted in lower annual primary, final and usable energy demand values. Finally, it was demonstrated that a winter garden has a positive effect on the energy balance of a building in climate of north part of Central Europe.

Opis:
Article presents the energetic balance of small-unmanned vehicle hybrid power transmission. The vehicle equipped with serial hybrid transmission consisted of electric engines connected to the battery pack and small Diesel power generator. In mentioned construction, battery is used as energy buffer and combustion engine is used more as emergency power supply, and is turned on when battery is depleted. In other condition, power generator can be turned off, without reducing power of transmission parameters, except its range. Vehicles with hybrid drive are very common chosen vehicles by users. More and more often, we also talk about searching for replacement fuels for internal combustion engines, so also for those with hybrid drive. The research was carried out on an unmanned land platform equipped with a hybrid propulsion system supplied as standard with Diesel oil. The article presents the problems of comparing the efficiency of a hybrid vehicle fuelled with Diesel oil, but also with alternative fuels based on kerosene and other components. For test, three types of fuels were used, standard Diesel oil, F-34 and with experimental mixture of Jet A-1 fuel with 10% of 2-ethylhexanol. Energy used for charging of the battery, from tank-to-wheel, was calculated. This also enables to calculate total efficiency of such hybrid power transmission, powered with different fuels.

Purpose: To evaluate of the energy expenditure in 3 types of dance classes (ballet, Jazz, and contemporary), as well as of the daily energy balance depending on dance type. Materials and methods: 40 females attending dance classes with a median age of 21.0 (19.0-25.0) and 10 males with a median age of 27.0 (20.0-28.0) participated in this study. The energy cost of each dance class was measured using the BodyMedia SenseWear Sensor and total daily energy expenditure was evaluated using a 3-day recording of physical activity. The dietary intake was evaluated with a 3-day food diary recording. Statistical analysis was performed using the SPSS software. Results: Median energy expenditure varied from 306 (277-328) Kcals/class for contemporary dance to 327 (290-355) Kcals/class for ballet and 369 (333-394) Kcals/class for jazz for females with significant differences between contemporary and jazz classes. For males, energy expenditure was 508 (447-589) Kcals/class and 564 (538-593) Kcals/class for ballet and jazz classes, respectively. Females had lower values for all anthropometric measurements, energy intake, macronutrient intakes, and energy expenditure, compared with males. The anthropometric characteristics did not differ between dance types. Both female and male dance students were in a negative energy balance. Conclusions: The use of sensors such as BodyMedia SenseWear together with keeping daily diaries make measurement of physical activity in dancing reliable and accurate. Exercise expenditure differs across types of dance in females but not in males. Both sexes had inadequate energy and carbohydrate intakes.

links between energy policy and economy
Opis:
Research background: Energy policy is closely linked to economic development. Therefore, its optimization is an important issue especially in the contemporary European environmental conditions.  EU regulations enforce a reduction of carbon dioxide emissions and the abandonment of non-renewable energy resources. Instead, they promote renewable energy sources. In this way, new legal and environmental circumstances are becoming the main reason for the transformation of energy balances, which is a real economic and technological challenge. This transformation requires a strategic and effective approach, especially in those countries which until now have used mainly hard coal in the energy sector. Purpose of the article: According to above justification, the main purpose of the article is to identify the strategies for the transformation of energy balances that were implemented in the years 1990-2017 by chosen European countries and Turkey. Methods: The study period covers the years 1990-2017, and the subject of the research at first applies to all European countries, and then to 7 countries selected due to their high share of bituminous coal in energy balance in the first year of the analysis, treated as the initial point of transformation (1990). As a result of this selection, 6 EU members and Turkey with the largest share of coal in energy production in the year 1990 are examined. Particularly, an analysis of the trends in their energy balances in the years 1990-2017 is conducted. The research uses data on non-renewable energy consumption and renewable energy resources and the total energy consumption. The research methodology includes: analysis of the structure and dynamics, evaluation of trends and comparative analysis and presentation of development strategies. At the end of the article, a comparative analysis is carried out, the economic consequences of identified changes are assessed, and recommendations are formulated aimed at optimizing the structure of the energy balance in the future. Findings & Value added: Generally, there are four theoretical and empirical patterns of transformation strategies of energy balances with dominant coal consumption: 1) using other non-renewable energy resources; 2) replacing non-renewable energy resources with renewable ones; 3) using nuclear energy instead of coal; 4) increasing coal consumption as available and efficient energy resource. It was found that the examined countries implement mainly the strategy in which the decreasing share of coal is made up for by an increasing share of gas. Additionally, we can observe an increase in the share of nuclear energy in France, the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom. In Spain and Germany, despite the use of nuclear power plants for the production of energy, the share of nuclear energy in the energy balances has systematically decreased in time. In all analyzed countries, we can also observe an increasing share of renewable sources in energy balances, however, this growth is very slow.

Opis:
In recent years, changes have been made in the structure of primary energy use in the European Union In addition, a reduction in the use of primary energy has also been observed. According to the forecasts of the International Energy Agency, the European energy market will be subject to further changes in the perspective of 2040. These may include the reduction of the energy consumption and the change in the structure of the energy balance as a result pro-ecological activities. Natural gas will be the only fossil energy carrier whose role in covering the energy demand will not change. Along with the changes taking place in the European energy market, global changes can also be observed. The EU Member States will continue to strive to diversify natural gas supplies. One of the main elements of diversification of natural gas supplies is the use of LNG regasification terminals. The reasons for that include the increasing production of natural gas, particularly in the case of unconventional deposits, the ongoing development of liquefaction terminals, and, as a consequence, an increase in the LNG supply in the global market. The article presents the utilization of regasification terminals in the EU Member States and plans for the development of LNG terminals. Europe has the opportunity to import natural gas through LNG terminals. However, until now, these have been used to a limited extent. This may indicate that in addition to diversification tasks, terminals can act as a safeguard against interruptions in gas supplies.

The article presents the simplified implementation of alternative load path method based on the energy balance approach. This method should be used to check the global resistance of a damaged structural system after the occurrence of an accidental event. Basic assumptions of simplified analytical models for modelling resistance of horizontal ties in a damaged structural system, taking into account the membrane (chain) effects, were presented. An approach to modelling the dynamic resistance of a damaged structural system based on the energy balance method is described. Calculated dependencies for checking the robustness of a prefabricated multi-storey building with hollow-core slabs after the loss of the central column are proposed and considered using an example. On the considered example, a comparison of the required tie sections area with the dynamic resistance designed using the energy balance method (EBM) and according to the current standards, and a statistical assessment of the reliability of the load-bearing capacity models are carried out. In the end, a brief algorithm for the simplified calculation of the dynamic resistance of a damaged structural system is proposed.
