Opis:
Computerized milling process is widely used in product manufacturing. Although manufacturing has gradually become highly-automated, the selection of machining conditions still remains an ever-present challenge in the process. To provide some findings contributable for the process planning, this study focuses on ball and filleted end milling. After brief explanations were given to the path interval determinations in both milling processes, the experiments were conducted to verify and characterize each procedure. The results of computational procedures showed good agreement with the experimental ones. Then, material removal rate and cutting force were analytically proposed for effective selection of machining conditions. The following findings were obtained from the demonstrations with discussion. Ball end milling required relatively large cutting force in the first tool path even though the material removal rate was comparatively small. On the contrary, filleted end mill enabled us to maintain a moderate cutting force in the first tool path even if the material removal rate expanded with increasing tool radius.

Opis:
Glass materials have been widely used in optical components in recent years. The purpose of this study was to develop an effective method for real-time detection of the state of cutting tools used in end milling of hard brittle materials. Cutting tests were performed to identify parameters that are useful in monitoring micro tool wear in glass milling. A specific component of the cutting force was found to be related to the progression of tool wear. Furthermore, using fast Fourier transform (FFT) analysis, the peak amplitudes of the cutting forces were found to occur at a specific frequency.

Opis:
During of hypereutectic Al-Si alloys, tool wear increases owing to the presence of silicon particles. Therefore, polycrystalline diamond tools are typically used, but they are very expensive. The purpose of this study is to examine the tool wear characteristics during the end milling of hypereutectic Al-Si alloy (A390–T6) by using comparatively inexpensive diamond-like carbon coated cemented carbide tools. Al-Si alloy was end-milled by changing the cutting speed. Our results revealed that the width of flank wear land increased monotonously with increasing of the cutting force regardless of the cutting speed. In addition, the experimental equation of the width of flank wear land was derived as a function of cutting speed and time, and it was clarified that width of flank wear land could be approximated.

Opis:
Safety of Mg milling processes can be expressed by means of the form and the number of fractions of chips formed during milling. This paper presents the state of the art of magnesium alloys milling technology in the aspect of chip fragmentation. Further-more, the impact of the depth of cut ap and the rake angle γ on the number of chip fractions was analysed in the study. These were conducted on AZ91HP magnesium cast alloy and milling was performed with carbide tools of varying rake angle values (γ = 5º and γ = 30º). It was observed that less intense chip fragmentation occurs with decreasing depth of cut ap. The number of chip fractions was lower at the tool rake angle of γ = 30º. The test results were formulated as technological recommendations according to the number of generated chip fractions.

Opis:
To improve the screw machining accuracy in modern air compressors. This paper investigates three main issues during the development process for cycloid screw machining methods on five-axis CNC machine tools with high precision and efficiency. First, the theoretical basis of cycloid screw surface shaping and derivative of the final profile equation is established. Then, modeling the center trajectory and feed rate according to the cycloid screw profile is given. Next is the experimental setup and simulation of the cycloid screw machining process and discussions. The obtained surface quality prediction parameters are close to the actual measured value, which can be used as a reference model for five-axis CNC milling technology processes. All experimental results obtained by the proposed mathematical model show that a surface with good surface quality is created, meeting the requirements for surface quality. The main work can be used as references for engineers and technicians in practice.

Opis:
Filleted end milling is commonly used as a versatile manufacturing process, whereas the optimization for tool condition management is one of the continuously noticed topics. It can also contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals. A lot of outcomes have been reported so far in the experimental investigations of tool condition parameters. However, the findings and knowledge from theoretical perspective are relatively scarce to advance smart tool management. Hence, the aim of this study is to give theoretical consideration with tool condition parameters. The investigations focus on filleted end milling with some variations of machining conditions. Several tool condition parameters were theoretically proposed after illustrating geometrical modeling with variable description. Then, the demonstrations and discussion were made based on the computational results in filleted end milling. The results visually and numerically ascertained novel findings regarding several characteristics of tool condition parameters

Opis:
The demands for filleted end milling with high efficiency are increasing more and more. Path interval determination is one of the computational processes in the tool path generation, and its development can offer further improvement in multi-axis filleted end milling. However, to our knowledge, the practical approach has been hardly proposed so far. Hence, this study proposes a novel algorithm to determine a suitable path interval in multi-axis filleted end milling with a tool inclination. The procedure with wide applicability and robustness was described based on the 3D geometrical consideration of filleted end mill. Then, the characteristics of procedure were discussed with the visual data obtained from the computational results.
