This paper deals with the burnout syndrome among students in the context of selected demographic characteristics of respondents, frequented level of study, satisfaction with the study, frequented study program, study performance and the vision for their future careers. The study aims to identify the possible predictors of the burnout syndrome among the students and identify the risk groups of students. Altogether 350 students from the Faculty of Education participated in the research, and the SBI (School Burnout Inventory) questionnaire was used to measure the burnout syndrome. The main findings include the rate of school burnout, with almost 18% of students exhibiting a high level. Using the method of classification trees, variables such as age and the overall satisfaction rate with the study were identified as predictors on the “Cynicism” subscale; grade average, age and field of study on the “Inadequacy” subscale, and no predictor was identified on the “Emotional Exhaustion” subscale. These results were complemented by qualitative interviews with the students and a teacher training specialist.

Opis:
Burnout or occupational exhaustion syndrome is a neuropsychological disorder resulting from chronic stress at work. Employees of private companies are highly exposed to this risk because of the overload of work in addition to the long daily working hours. We have therefore conducted a study whose aim is to assess the prevalence of burnout and its components, as well as to study socio-professional determinants among employees. We tested 102 employees aged between 22 and 60 years with an average age of 36.76 years ± 10.5 years. 77% were men and 24% were women. They were asked to complete freely and anonymously a general information sheet and the MBI questionnaire “Maslach Burn-out Inventory” in its French version with language adaptation. This consists of 22 items, evaluating three dimensions: emotional exhaustion (EE), depersonalization (DP) and personal accomplishment (PA). A score was calculated and a rating in the degree of severity (low, moderate and high) was given for each of the dimensions, according to internationally accepted standards. The analysis of the results showed a high prevalence of burnout. Statistical analyses show that the rate of burnout in the age group over 40 equals 47.2% against 31.8% only among employees aged under 40. Similarly, the burnout rate among women is about the same as men (p=0.977). Emotional exhaustion (EE) is the most widespread component in exhausted subjects. It was found to be high for 14.7% of employees; while depersonalization (DP) or high cynicism affects only 3.9% of subjects. Significant links between depersonalization and gender as well as professional seniority are obtained. Concerning the level of schooling, the rate of burnout decreases when the school level increases but without significance (p = 0.474). The rate of burnout is high among executing workers followed by senior managers. However, this link remains statistically insignificant. Concerning seniority, we note that the prevalence of burnout increases with professional seniority and even in the meaningless position. We also observe a higher rate of burnout among employees with company seniority of less than 10 years in addition to the oldest, but without any meaning. Professional exhaustion or burnout exists strongly in Moroccan companies. In order to be able to adapt to the rapid development of the market and its increased demands, it is essential that business leaders prevent this pathology by improving the psychosocial work environment.

Purpose: To examine the relationship between perceived social support and burnout among nurses. Materials and methods: The participants of this study were 42 Greek nurses of a general hospital which were randomly selected. Data was collected using the Greek version of Maslach’s Burnout Inventory for burnout assessment and the Greek version of ‘The Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support’ for the assessment of participants’ levels of perceived social support. A self-administered questionnaire with questions about socio-demographic and work-related characteristics was used. Descriptive statistics and Spearman’s rho correlation coefficient analysis were conducted. Results: The results showed a negative association between emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and perceived social support, especially from friends. Social support from significant others found to have the highest impact while family support found to have the least impact in nurses’ social support. Conclusions: Findings could be applied to the assessment of burnout in Greek nurses and to future prevention of burnout through the enhancement of perceived social support.

Introduction and aim. Emotional burnout syndrome has become increasingly common in recent decades, regardless of the field of professional activity. The purpose of our study was to compare the prevalence of emotional burnout in medical students of Vinnytsia National Medical University before the beginning of the academic semester and during the passing of exams. Material and methods. An anonymous, voluntary survey before the start of study was taken by 300 students, among them 82.3% were women, 17.7% were men. Results. During the exams, 362 students took part, including 76.2% women and 24.1% men. According to the results of the study, the proportion of the “average” degree of exhaustion increased in second-year students by 15.6%; third-year students by 44.4%. The “high” degree of emotional exhaustion according to the results of the study before the start of training was found in male students of the third year – 44.4% and 36.4% of male students of the sixth year. During the exams, the rate of “high” emotional exhaustion was observed in first-year students, increasing from 12.5% to 18% and in sixth-year students from 36.4% to 50%. Conclusion. Thus, it was found that female students are the most adapted to the educational load, to passing exams, which affects the psychosomatic state of future doctors.

Opis:
Nearly every individual faces stressful events in his personal and professional life, but each of us has a unique ability to cope with such situations. The need to tackle the high demands at work or in one's personal life over the long term can lead to the mental, physical and emotional exhaustion known as burnout. Its occurrence has been tracked in research studies and surveys in different professions, but the predominant focus of this article is on the helping professions, such as the work of healthcare workers. Our goal was to determine the degree of professional burnout among health professionals working at inpatient facilities in Slovakia. We focused on the relation between burnout and dissatisfaction with the choice of profession, workplace equipment and financial evaluation. We surveyed the dependence of burnout on the age and gender of the workers. To identify burnout, we used a standardized questionnaire MBI with three dimensions - emotional exhaustion (EE), depersonalization (DP) and personal accomplishment (PA). The sample included 315 healthcare workers from 11 hospitals in Slovakia. We assert that burnout occurs when an individual scores 2-3 times in the third stage, which was found in 33% of the workers. In the EE subscale a high degree of burnout was achieved by 46% of the workers, in the DP subscale by 29% and in the PA subscale by 45% of the workers. We confirmed a significant relationship between burnout and dissatisfactionwith the choice of occupation, with the equipment and the financial evaluation of the workplace. A burnout dependence on gender and age was not confirmed. The results of our study confirmed an increased occurrence of burnout and show the importance of preventive measures in the field of burnout.
Aby zidentyfikować "wypalenie" użyliśmy znormalizowanego kwestionariusza MBI z trzema wymiarami - przemęczenie emocjonalne (EE), depersonalizacja (DP) i osobiste spełnienie (PA). Próbę przeprowadzono na 315 pracownikach służby zdrowia z 11 szpitali w Słowacji. Objawy wypalenia zawodowego stwierdzono u 33% pracowników. W kategorii EE wysoki stopień "wypalenia" został osiągnięty przez 46% badanych, w kategorii DP przez 29% , a w kategorii PA przez 45% badanych. Potwierdziliśmy znaczący związek pomiędzy "wypaleniem" a niezadowoleniem związanym z wyborem profesji, z wyposażeniem i z oceną finansów placówek. Zależność "wypalenia" od płci i wieku nie została potwierdzona. Wyniki naszych badań potwierdziły wzrost występowania zespołu wypalenia, co wskazuje na konieczność podjęcia działań profilaktycznych.

Objectives The aim of this exploratory study was to analyze the association between emotional dissonance and emotional exhaustion among healthcare professionals, and the mediating role of the perceived quality of care in this relationship. Material and Methods Self-report questionnaires were administered to 724 healthcare workers. The measurement model was tested and the mediation hypothesis was verified through hierarchical multiple regression analyses. Bootstrapping was used to construct confidence intervals to evaluate the mediation effects. Results Emotional dissonance was significantly related to emotional exhaustion, and the perceived quality of care was negatively related to emotional exhaustion. The perceived quality of care had a partial mediating effect on the relationship between emotional dissonance and emotional exhaustion. Emotional dissonance had a significant effect on emotional exhaustion, and the perceived quality of care was a mediating factor in this relationship among healthcare professionals. Conclusions The management of the perceived quality of care may be helpful in the prevention of burnout and distress in the workplace. Int J Occup Med Environ Health. 2019;32(6):841–51

Opis:
Burnout has been widely reviewed and studied. However, the relationship between teacher burnout syndrome and curricular reform is rarely studied. Thus, the aim here is to report on the burnout syndrome among teachers during the implementation of the curriculum in Malaysia namely Integrated Secondary School Curriculum (ISSC). Two hundred and sixty four secondary school teachers who were involved in the ISSC program completed the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) and the Secondary School Curricular Change Questionnaire (SSCCQ). The stepwise regression results showed that the emotional exhaustion (EE) predictor is overall workload and time sufficiency, depersonalization (DP) predictor is complexity of the ISSC, and personal accomplishment (PA) predictor is ISSC practicality. Preventing this phenomenon in the school system can lead to better retention rates among teachers.

Opis:
Background The lack of nursing staff is a current problem not only in Poland, but also in the world. The decision of nurses to leave the workplace, apart from the financial aspect, often results from unfavourable working conditions related to the work environment. Material and Methods The study was multicentre, cross-sectional. The study was conducted among a group of 1509 nurses employed in surgical and internal medicine wards in 21 hospitals in Poland. The key variables of the study were: the intention of the nurses to leave their jobs, the nurses’ working environment, the level of satisfaction, the level of occupational burnout and the number of patients cared for on the last shift, the number of nurses on the last shift. The Practice Environment Scale of the Nursing Work Index (PES-NWI) and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) questionnaire were used in the research. Results Almost half of the surveyed nurses (48.84%) declared their willingness to leave their current workplace. The statistical analysis showed that nurses declaring their willingness to quit their job in the hospital where they were employed were significantly younger (42.88 vs. 45.04, p = 0.000), had shorter total length of service overall (19.96 vs. 23.20), and also in the hospital where they were employed (15.86 vs. 18.50, p = 0.000). The increase in the number of patients by one was significantly associated with a 1% increase in the risk of leaving work (OR = 1.01, 95% CI 1.00–1.02). An increase in emotional exhaustion significantly increased the risk of leaving work by 2% (OR = 1.02, 95% CI 0.99–1.03). Conclusions Younger age of nurses, greater workload resulting from more patients and occupational burnout – emotional exhaustion is correlated with the risk of leaving work in the hospital. A lower risk of leaving the job is associated with a higher level of job satisfaction in the hospital, salary and promotion opportunities.

Opis:
Research background: The global COVID-19 pandemic created an unprecedented challenge not only for employees' well-being, but also for the nature of their work, as teleworking became the norm for many of them almost overnight. Thus, there is a need to a more fine-grained understanding of the specific job demands experienced while teleworking during COVID-19, and the specific resources that mitigate the detrimental effects of demands and help employees to adopt resilient responses during and beyond COVID-19. Purpose of the article: Drawing upon the job demands-resources model, the present study aims at investigating the link between work overload (a job demand) and employee well-being (i.e., burnout), considering role clarity (a job resource) as a mediator, and task interdependence and self-efficacy as two potential boundary conditions. Methods: In order to examine the link between work overload, role clarity and emotional exhaustion moderated by task interdependence and self-efficacy, we used survey data from 701 Romanian employees at a large information technology company, who worked from home during COVID-19. We employed regression-based path analysis to examine the hypothesized relations. Findings & value added: The results reveal that role clarity partially mediates the relation between work overload and emotional exhaustion while teleworking during COVID-19. Moreover, the results from the moderated mediation analysis show that role clarity, self-efficacy, and task interdependence interact in their effects on emotional exhaustion. This study has important theoretical and managerial implications for employee well-being that go beyond the pandemic. As this study shows, when high levels of workload and task interdependence cannot be avoided, employees' personal (self-efficacy) and job (role clarity) resources might be particularly useful to reduce their exhaustion while teleworking. Based on these results, managers can design better jobs for remote workers and more flexible work arrangements in the future.

Research background: Faculties of private universities are under immense working pressure, which causes stress and burnout. The job burnout triggers the psychological pressure, which increases the turnover intention.  Purpose of the article: The undertaken study aims to evaluate the scale of burnout with its three-element model, which affects faculty members of private universities of Pakistan. This research also aims to examine the mediating effect of organizational commitment (e.g., affective, normative & continuance commitments), and moderating influence of subjective vitality in a relationship of job burnout and its constituents, for example exhaustion, efficacy & cynicism, and the turnover intention. Methods: The 712 responses were collected through a structured questionnaire from the junior and senior faculty members of private universities of Pakistan. The data was examined by using second order partial least square - structural equation approach - PLS-SEM. Findings & value added: The research findings exhibited that emotional exhaustion, cynicism, and professional efficacy have a direct significant influence on job burnout. The findings further demonstrated that the job burnout has a cogent and negative impact on faculty turnover intention. The findings demonstrated that elements of organizational commitment (e.g., normative, affective & continuance commitments) have a forceful serial mediating influence between burnout & its constituents for example exhaustion, efficacy & cynicism, and turnover intention. Finally, the findings have revealed that subjective vitality has a significant and positive impact as a moderating variable in a relationship between job burnout and turnover intention. This research has a long-term theoretical contribution, as it provides a novel conceptual framework, which can be replicated in different industries. Thus, this unique model provides the solution to reduce employees' turnover for other industries as well.

Comparison of the burnout syndrome rate of university teachers in Slovakia and Ukraine was one aspect of research. Verification of the relationship between age, job satisfaction (overall and financial), workload and burnout of university teachers was another aspect of research. The research also dealt with the verification of burnout syndrome depending on the length of teaching at university. To verify the differences and relationships examined, the MBI-ES questionnaire measuring burnout syndrome in three dimensions, emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal satisfaction, and a sociodemographic questionnaire containing questions to measure overall and financial satisfaction with work and perceived workload was used. The research sample consisted of 80 university teachers aged 25 to 68, of whom 25 were women and 55 men. There was a significant difference in personal satisfaction among Slovak and Ukrainian educators. Slovak university teachers were less satisfied with the work as Ukrainian teachers. The difference in emotional exhaustion and depersonalization has not been confirmed. The variables - age, length of time at university, and financial satisfaction with work did not significantly affect the burnout syndrome in college teachers. General job satisfaction has a significant positive impact on emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal satisfaction as components of burnout syndrome in college educators.
Celem prezentowanego artykułu jest porównanie występowania wskaźnika wypalenia zawodowego wśród nauczycieli akademickich na Słowacji i na Ukrainie. Przyjęto następujące zmienne: wiek, zadowolenie z pracy (w aspekcie całościowym i finansowym), obciążenie pracą, staż pracy.

Opis:
This article is dedicated to the problem of professional burnout among Polish teachers and psychologists of state schools after the reform in the Polish system of education when gymnasiums (junior high schools) were introduced. A group of primary school, junior high school and high school teachers and psychologists are analyzed and compared in terms of three dimensions of burnout: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and reduced sense of personal accomplishment. Despite sharing the same work environment with teachers, school psychologists are those who are supposed to cope with burnout better because of their professional knowledge and experience.
