Cognitive sciences are grouped together according to their substantial disciplines such as neurobiology, psychology, linguistics and many others. From more than ten years a search has been undertaken for the best fitting cognitive research method, that does not influence the scientific output. More recently attention has been turned to systems which might operate through their dynamic aspect, called the dynamic approach. Their great advantage is to see the old linguistic axioms such as connectivity in a new way.

The author starts his considerations with a remark on the human person as a unique kind of reality – an embodied being with a Trinitarian structure. He claims that we must account for human nature as it is and educate the human person accordingly. He focuses on six key areas which need further exploration for the renewal of religious education: (1) religious education and the human person, (2) religious education for the body, (3) religious education for the heart, (4) religious education for the mind, (5) religious education and moral formation, and (6) the nature of faith.

In the text, I address the subject of neurocognitive science, art and literature in various perspectives, whose connecting point is the perspective of the experiencing subject and her embodiment. The embodied and involved subject reveals through her ailments and suffering dimensions of experience not always visible in the state of health and well-being. The starting point of my deliberations are issues in the field of neurocognitive science and neuroesthetics as the areas that attempt to explain the neurobiological mechanisms of perception of art and literature. Next, I refer to research in the field of neuroanthropology, through which the positive and creative dimensions of the illness experience are noticed. I also refer to psychopathology as an area that shows the dimensions of human experience in a much more fundamental way than it is able to show the experience of everyday life.

The article analyzes the ways of producing cultural representations of disability in theatre, film, literature and society. It draws attention to their dialectical structure, which problematizes - as in the case of the figure of the disabled avenger from Malina Prześluga’s drama "Debil" – a positive going beyond the oppositions of good and evil, agency and passivity. The author emphasizes the need to perceive not only metaphorical but also materialistic dimensions of disability in order to deconstruct and dislocate (and not only duplicate) ableist clichés. The key role in this process is played by the categories of embodiment and lived experience, as well as the strategies of "staring back" (R. Garland-Thomson) used by contemporary Polish artists with disabilities.

All my sour-sweet days I will lament and love – a comparative analysis of metaphors with the basic taste adjectives in Polish and EnglishThis paper provides a comparative analysis of verbal synesthetic metaphors with the basic taste adjectives in Polish and English: słodki/sweet, gorzki/bitter, kwaśny/sour, słony/salty. Since taste seems to be an ideal candidate for a universal, biologically determined source of metaphors, the authors seek to verify the hypothesis of metaphor embodiment. The corpus-based analysis of nominal phrases with basic Polish and English taste adjectives indicates that cultural influences on the metaphorical mapping, as well as the importance of the target conceptual domains, must be taken into account. All my sour-swet days I will lament and love – kontrastywna analiza metafor z przymiotnikami oznaczającymi podstawowe smaki w języku polskim i angielskimW artykule analizowane są metafory synestezyjne z przymiotnikami określającymi podstawowe smaki w języku polskim i angielskim: słodki/sweet, gorzki/bitter, kwaśny/sour, słony/salty.

Artykuł rozpatruje stosunek nurtu transhumanistycznego do cielesności człowieka. Autor w pierwszym rzędzie przedstawia sześć rozumień cielesności według Toma Ziemke'go, w tym również takie, które przybliżają transhumanistyczną człowieka przyszłości. Następnie analizuje rolę ciała w projekcie postczłowieka, aby w sekcji końcowej ukazać dwuznaczne, ambiwalentne nastawienie do cielesności, stanowiące centralny problemat artykułu.
The article examines the relation between transhumanism and the notion of corporeity. The author presents six approaches to corporeity according to Tom Ziemke, including those which are favorable to the transhumanist vision of the future. Then the author examines the role of the human body in the transhumanist project of the posthuman. In the last, central section it is argued that transhumanism displays an ambivalent view towards corporeity.

Opis:
Expansive body posture is the most commonly studied and widely described in psychological literature. For many years, expansive posture was universally identified as a pose of power, but more recent research has revealed that the link between expansive posture and power may be moderated by gender, culture or even contextual cues. Our findings show that with little variation added to expansive posture it does not necessarily lead to the sense of power, and may actually trigger the opposite effect: a feeling of submissiveness. In three studies, persons assuming their body in a standing-at-attention posture were perceived as being more obedient (Experiment 1), thus participants who expanded their body in a standing-at-attention manner (although actually doing a non-obedient unrelated task) displayed greater compliance to requests (Experiment 2) and declared greater submissiveness toward social norms (Experiment 3). We discuss how the cultural and interpersonal context imprinted in specific body posture can modify the feedback of innate and universal body states.

The aim of this article is to present a specific interaction between a dancer and his/her body. Such a relationship usually emerges in later stages of dancers’ careers, and is accompanied by a small number of formal rules and standards present within a certain dance community. Therefore, it rather occurs among dancers of artistic than of sport genres of dance. Dancer’s relationship with the body is created in the process of negotiating and getting to know one’s body reactions to one’s activities. The body is treated by a dancer as an actor who makes own decisions, and who is sometimes not letting the dancer to fulfill his/ her intentions, for example, these connected with social norms in certain social groups. In order to show and to compare how diverse one’s interactions with one’s body might be, I will also discuss an issue of relation with one’s own body in the autotherapeutic process. Presentation of both these problems also demonstrates two different ways of communicating with one’s own body. This article presents outcomes of a qualitative research on social construction of embodiment, which was conducted with the use of Grounded Theory Methodology and qualitative research techniques, such as: unstructured interviews, video and photo elicited interviews, analysis of visual data, analytic autoethnography, participant and non-participant observation and desk research.

Opis:
For a long time, Thematic roles have received much attention, raising many disputes and controversies, but they still remain a ‘murky construct’ (Newmeyer, 2010, Rissman and Majid, 2019). Dowty’s words of 1986 that “the perennial vexing problem is the lack of agreement among linguists as to which thematic roles exist, and the absence of any obvious way to decide this question” still hold true. Departing from the traditional ‘intuitive semantic’ approach, I provided evidence that Thematic roles are indispensable components of image schemas, and constitute a scaffolding for language structures (2022, forthcoming). A natural question arose then, where they come from in the image schemas. Fillmore (1968) proposed that they may be, “presumably, innate concepts”, while Langacker (1991) alluded to their “nonlinguistic” origin. The present paper argues that Thematic roles come from “nonlinguistic” sources, i.e., human interpretation and categorization of reality, completing the Thematic roles embodiment process.

This article situates the experiences of having penile implant surgery between medical interventions and privately understood meanings and practices. Using my own experiences, supplemented with information from online sources, I document the changes that occur in the meanings and the practices that implant surgery enables. My analysis derives from the concepts of habitus and the looking glass body, and it begins with a diagnosis of impotence and moves through the various considerations that lead to surgery and its aftermaths. I suggest that understanding how medical technology interacts with everyday meanings contributes to a wider application of the concept of habitus while expanding a symbolic interactionist perspective of the body.

The article discusses various forms of embodiment in lived religion and different ways of studying them. It focuses on three approaches to embodiment: the study of religious subjectivity that involves experiencing one’s own body, the study of shared cultural representations of the body, and the study of determinants that change body states and thus influence religious thought and behavior. It is argued that embodiment in lived religion does not just mean that the body is at the center of religious life. Embodiment manifest itself in all dimensions of religious life from ritual behavior to ineffable religious experience. It is most clearly seen in everyday religious activity that forms the core of lived religion.

The paper addresses the issue of abstract concepts in the embodied and grounded theories of language. This issue seems to be one of the fundamental challenges facing the theories from this group. The aim of this work is to discuss the essence of the problem and to present the most interesting attempts to solve the aforementioned challenge. To this end, we will begin by characterizing the approach of researchers in embodied cognition to the study of language. In the following section, we will look at research data showing differences in the meaning-making processes for abstract and concrete concepts by natural cognitive systems. This section will be followed by a presentation of selected strategies of addressing the problem of abstractness in the research paradigm under discussion. We will conclude with some observations about a grounded and embodied model of language as a whole.

Vindication of the body belongs to great projects of our times and the attention body receives can easily be named as one of the leitmotifs of modern age. Body has been subjected to repression, alienation and taming of its uncontrollable tendencies and wide disregard. Previous epochs left us with the dualism of mind and body, in which the spiritual element has been largely favored as the one connected to the universal truth. In recent times the situation shifted and it is the body that is seen as a source of authenticity and individuality. Attitudes towards the body have changed with the development of modern science, cultural perspective and new knowledge about body and its functions including psychosomatic and psychological. Moreover now-a-days bodies are protected like never before with new technologies. Subsequently bodies have become substituted in interaction with the outside world and estranged.

This main aim of this paper is to present some theoretical considerations about the need for a cultural approach in modern developmental psychology. Starting with a critique of the over-universalisation of developmental research in American psychology, the authors present a paradigm of a relational-developmental system, using the concept of embodiment and a cultural approach in psychological research, in which the principal object of analysis is person-in-action as a culturally inclusive alternative for developmental psychology. This approach will be exemplified by research on development through guided participation and the role of shame in moral and social development in Confucian culture.
