Opis:
The aim of this work was to evaluate the use of the naphthalic anhydride safener on the protection of common bean cultivars BRS-Estilo (carioca) and BRS-Esplendor (black) from negative effects of herbicides. Two experiments were conducted, one for each cultivar in a complete randomized design with five replications, in a 6 × 3 factorial scheme, with six herbicide treatments: bentazon, fluazifop-P + fomesafen, bentazon + imazamox, fomesafen, cloransulam, and control without application, and three naphthalic anhydride treatments: without application, foliar application, and application via seed treatment. Visible injuries at 7, 14 and 21 days after application, photosystem II electron transport rate, and plant dry weight were evaluated. The naphthalic anhydride applied via foliar, and seed treatment reduced significantly the visible injuries in relation to the control when using the herbicides bentazon, fluazifop-P + fomesafen, bentazon + imazamox, and cloransulam. The photosystem II electron transport rate was protected by anhydride applied via foliar and seed treatment when using the herbicides bentazon, fluazifop-P + fomesafen and bentazon + + imazamox. The application of naphthalic anhydride via seed treatment protected the BRS-Estilo and BRS-Esplendor common bean cultivars, with no reductions in the plant dry weight when using the herbicides fluazifop-P + fomesafen, and fomesafen. The use of naphthalic anhydride via seed treatment and foliar application protected BRS-Estilo and BRSEsplendor common bean cultivars, from the negative effects of fluazifop-P + fomesafen and fomesafen herbicides. Thus, this practice has potential to be used in common beans.

Opis:
Single charge manipulation for useful electronic functionalities has become an exciting and fast-paced direction of research in recent years. In structures with dimensions below about 100 nm, the physics governing the device operation turn out to be strikingly different than in the case of larger devices. The presence of even a single charge may completely suppress current flow due to the basic electronelectron repulsion (so called Coulomb blockade effect) [1]. It is even more exciting to control this effect at the level of single-electron/single-atom interaction. The atomic entity can be one donor present in silicon lattice with a Coulombic potential well. In principle, it can accommodate basically a single electron. We study the electrical behavior of nanoscale-channel silicon-on-insulator field-effect transistors (SOI-FETs) that contain a discrete arrangement of donors. The donors can be utilized as "stepping stones" for the transfer of single charges. This ability opens the doors to a rich world of applications based on the simple interplay of single charges and single atoms, while still utilizing mostly conventional and well established fabrication techniques. In this work, we distinguish the effects of single-electron transport mediated by one or few dopants only. Furthermore, we show how the single-electron/single-donor interaction can be tuned by using the external biases. We demonstrate then by simulation and experiment the feasibility of single-electron/bit transfer operation (single-electron turnstile).

Opis:
Designing molecular systems for molecular electronics or for solar energy conversion that are capable of moving charge efficiently over long distances through molecular bridges requires a fundamental understanding of electron transport in donor-bridge-acceptor systems. In this paper theoretical investigation was performed on electron transport properties of 4-amino 4-nitro biphenyl (DBA-based molecule that was sandwiched between two gold surfaces). Dependence of the molecular electronic structure of the gold-molecule complex on the external electric field was studied, too. On the other hand, the electronic conduction was analyzed from the change in the shape of molecular orbital and the evolution of the highest occupied-lowest occupied molecular orbitals gap of the gold-molecule complex under the influence of the electric field. Values of potential barrier that were determined experimentally and the obtained results are reported in this paper.

Opis:
The capabilities of porcine adrenal cortex mitochondria to oxidize glycerol-3-phosphate (GP) were studied. In comparison with bovine adrenal cortex mitochondria, porcine mitochondria oxidized GP about three times more actively (18.9 vs 6.1 nmol O2/min per mg protein in the presence of ADP) and the activity of mitochondrial glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase was about four times higher (33.4 vs 8.2 nmol/min per mg protein). In porcine adrenal cortex mitochondria we found similar values for succinate and GP oxidation both in the absence and presence of ADP or deoxycorticosterone (DOC). Rotenone sensitivity of DOC stimulation of GP oxidation indicated that porcine adrenal cortex mitochondria are able to oxidize GP and thus to generate NADPH from GP, presumably via reverse electron transport followed by energy-dependent NADH-NADP transhydrogenation.
