The article presents a method for the electromotive force (EMF) determination and for correction of a connection diagram of a brushless DC (BLDC) motor winding. An appropriate mathematical field model has been proposed for this purpose. Calculation results are confirmed by experimental researches of the BLDC motor ДБ100-90-1-Р42 with an external rotor.
W artykule przedstawiono metodę wyznaczania siły elektromotorycznej bezszczotkowego silnika prądu stałego, dla sprawdzenia poprawności połączeń w jego schemacie uzwojenia. W tym celu zaproponowano odpowiedni model matematyczny pola. Wyniki obliczeń numerycznych potwierdzono badaniami eksperymentalnymi bezszczotkowego silnika z wirnikiem zewnętrznym typu ДБ100-90-1-Р42.

This paper investigates the performance of electromagnetic vibration harvesters that can be incorporated in energy harvesting magnetorheological (MR) dampers. The study outlines the structure and operating principles of harvesters and compares results of numerical calculations with measurement data obtained under idle run. Results demonstrate the potential applications of harvesters as velocity sensors. The relationship between electromotive force (emf) and velocity across the devices is established. The discussion section suggests that power generation by harvesters can provide the velocity information by utilising the sensing function applicable to a variety of control algorithms.

The study investigates the self-sensing ability in an energy harvesting magnetorheological damper (EHMRD). The device consists of a conventional linear MR damper and an electromagnetic harvester. The objective of the work is to demonstrate that the EHMRD with specific self-powered feature can also serve as a velocity sensor. Main components of the device and design structure are summarized and its operation principle is highlighted. The diagram of the experimental set-up incorporating the measurement and processing unit is provided, the experimental procedure is outlined and data processing is discussed. The self-sensing function is proposed whereby the relative velocity of the EHMRD can be reconstructed from the electromotive force (emf) induced in the harvester coil. To demonstrate the adequacy of the self-sensing action (i.e., the induced emf should agree well with the relative velocity), the proposed self-sensing function is implemented and tested in the embedded system that will be a target control platform. Finally, the test results of the system utilizing a switching control algorithm are provided to demonstrate the potentials of the EHMRD acting as a velocity sensor and to confirm its applicability in semi-active vibration control systems.

W artykule przedstawiona została analiza matematyczna zjawisk fizycznych wykorzystywanych w wyrzutniach typu rail gun. Przedstawiono opis matematyczny siły działającej na pocisk w stanie statycznym. Zaprezentowano również sposób wyznaczania siły elektromotorycznej indukowanej w obwodzie wyrzutni podczas procesu wystrzału. Przeprowadzono analizę możliwości wykorzystania obwodów magnetycznych z magnesami trwałymi w wyrzutniach typu rail gun.
This paper presents the mathematical analysis of magnetic phenomena which are used in a rail gun. Mathematical description of the force acting on the projectile in a static state was presented. The equation of the electromotive force (EMF) induced in the rail gun during the shoot process was derived. The magnetic circuit with permanent magnet and aerial gap was presented as an external source of magnetic field between both rails. The analysis of the possibilities of improving launcher achievements by using magnetic circuit was made. The influence of external magnetic field on EMF and force acting on the projectile in the assumed model was defined. The comparison permits to affirm that external magnetic field can considerably magnify the force acting on the projectile. The value of EMF is negligibly small compared to high velocity energy storage commonly used in rail guns.

The loop can be treated as a rectangular loop (two-conductor closed mitigation loop) located near the power line horizontal to the earth surface. Exact and simplified methods of the determination of the emf are presented. The exact method bases on the earth return circuit theory, whereas the simplified method allows one to calculate the induced emf under the assumption neglecting earth currents.

The study presents methods of the calculation of electric field induced in vicinity of an overhead current carrying conductor. Exact method of the determination of the induced electric field bases on the Fourier transform technique, whereas a simplified method uses the concept of complex ground return plane. Exact and simplified methods of the calculation of electromotive force (emf) induced in a loop located under an overhead power line conductor are also presented. The loop is treated as a rectangular loop (two-conductor closed loop) located near the power line horizontal to the earth surface. The exact method bases on the earth return circuit theory, whereas the simplified method allows one to calculate the induced emf under the assumption neglecting earth currents. In this work, the electromotive force (EMF) near a permanent magnet heating cylinder was determined using a practical test bench. The aim is to elaborate three-dimensional analytical calculation capable of predicting accurately the same electromagnetic quantities by calculating the induced EMF in the presence of an inductive sensor. The analytical approach is obtained from developing mathematical integrals using the Coulombian approach to permanent magnets. In this approach, rotations are considered by Euler’s transformations matrices permitting the calculation of all permanent magnets flux densities contributions at the same points in the surrounding free space. These points, part of a uniform rectangular grid of the active EMF sensor surface, are used to compute the EMF by Faraday’s law. The validation results between experimental and simulated ones confirm the robustness and the efficiency of the proposed analytical approach.

A new double stator permanent magnet machine having two sets of alternating current HacI windings in separate stators is proposed in this study. The proposed machine is appropriate for low-speed direct-drive applications. 2D- and 3D-finite element analysis (FEA) is adopted in the result predictions. The considered machine elements are: coil and phase flux linkage, coil and phase induced-electromotive force (EMF), copper loss, current density and torque characteristics. The analysis shows that the studied permanent magnet HpmI machine has better electromagnetic performance than its single-stator equivalent. Moreover, the proposed machine has potential for higher reliability if the separate stators are used independently. The effect of design parameters on open-circuit flux linkage and induced-electromotive force, as well as on the average electromagnetic torque of the proposed double stator machine is also presented. It is observed that for each of the investigated design variables, there is a need to select the optimal value in order to achieve the best average torque. The investigated design parameters are: the split ratio, magnet thickness, rotor radial thickness, inner stator tooth-width, rotor inner and outer iron-width/pitch ratio, and stator yoke size.
