Opis:
Nowadays, in civil aviation, issues related to improving efficiency, reducing the costs of air operations as well as the negative impact of air transport on the environment are of increasing importance. These ideas allow the formulation of the paradigm relating to the development of air transport - ‘more Efficiently, more Economically, more Eco-friendly - 3E’. The article presents in a cross-sectional and synthetic way research conducted by leading scientific centres around the world as well as prototype aviation constructions designed by companies from the aviation industry. Benefits and disadvantages of future propulsions, such as purely electric, hybrid and distributed propulsions, were presented. Conclusions were formulated regarding further possible directions of civil aviation development, taking into account the improvement of its efficiency as well as economic and ecological indicators.

Plasma engines are used for space propulsion as an alternative to chemical thrusters. Due to the high exhaust velocity of the propellant, they are more effi cient for long-distance interplanetary space missions than their conventional counterparts. An advanced laboratory of plasma space propulsion (PlaNS) at the Institute of Plasma Physics and Laser Microfusion (IPPLM) specializes in designing and testing various electric propulsion devices. Inside of a special vacuum chamber with three performance pumps, an environment similar to the one that prevails in space is created. An innovative Micro Pulsed Plasma Thruster (LPPT) with liquid propellant was built at the laboratory. Now it is used to test the second prototype of Hall effect thruster (HET) operating on krypton propellant. Meantime, an improved prototype of krypton Hall thruster is constructed.

Opis:
The paper presents issues concerning an utilisation of a hybrid-electric propulsion system (HEPS) in an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). It is an attempt of fulfilling a gap of alternative propulsions within aerial applications. The elaboration contains both analysis of HEPS energetic aspects and aerial propulsion systems selection criterions. Presented considerations base on the assumed mission, which includes motion profile and given tasks (derived from tactical and technical conditions and aircraft purpose). The characteristics of mission and aircraft allow to determine power requirements which enable to select proper configuration of the HEPS and to define its states of work. Presented deliberations may help to formulate conclusions on matching the HEPS to the mission of the UAV.

Opis:
The increasingly restrictive standards related to exhaust emissions from cars make difficult the development of internal combustion engines. The activities undertaken in the design of internal combustion engines are mainly based on downsizing, e.g decreasing the engine's displacement. The main direction in the development of vehicle propulsion is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. It is expected to reduce CO2 emissions in 2020 to reach 95 g/km. Electric vehicles achieve low noise levels and do not emitted a burn, and thus, their use leads to a reduction in the amount of toxic exhaust gases in the air. The aspect of reducing emissions of harmful exhaust compounds and activities focusing on downsizing on the market of combustion engine cars leads to a significant increase the number of electric vehicles. In 2018 around 95 million motor vehicles were registered in the world, of which around 12 million in the European Union and 273 thousand in Poland. The number of electric vehicles among all sold is around 5.5%. Every year new, more technologically advanced models appear on the electric vehicle market. In 2018, the most popular model was the Nissan LEAF and the BAIC EC-Series. A large number of Renault ZOE have also been sold. In article analyzed different models of electric vehicle, which are available on market and presented the characteristics based on e.g. price per 100 kilometers, range for every model or charging time.

The ship propulsion solution based on unconventional thrusters driven by electric motors is most often applied for the multi-mode ships. These ships ought to have dynamic positioning system. It forces an application of a few thrusters (most often four, seldom more up to eight). Records from a number of multi-mode ships show amean load of less than 40% of maximum load on the propulsion system. In other side the demand for electric energy of ship industrial part is large, more often than for the propulsion part. In that case the diesel-electric propulsion system application may be economical, because the electric energy generation for all ship's purposes makes possible the main engines work on the optimum loads on lowest specific fuel consumption and allows them a long-term work on heavy fuels. For multi-mode ships like cable ships, suppliers, drilling vessels are convenient an application of unconventional thrusters with direct electric propulsion as well, especially for dynamic positioning systems. The efficiency of the thrusters is a predominant factor for the successful and economical operation. Forecasted development and rise of quantity of diesel-electric propulsion (it means with electrical transmission) would cause increased interest of unconventional thrusters. Ultimately they may revolutionize ship propulsion systems.

In terms of electric ship energy requirement in navigation, the ship charging station location is especially important. In this paper, a multi-period ship charging station location optimization model is pro-posed to make location decision in overall, from initial possible station sites chosen to the capacity determination for the final location sites. In the first phase, from the perspective of external environment, find out all possible ship charging station candidate sites through the feasible analyze. In the second phase, taking the ship charging demands into consideration, the final ship charging station sites can be selected among the candidate sites based on backup coverage model. In the last phase, regarding the cost of construction and service capability for different grade as the main factor in capacity determination, the optimal capacity of each final ship charging station are determined by means of optimization method. Finally, an example of Yanqi lake in China is used to verify the validity of the proposed methodology. The reasonable location of charging station could ensure the electric energy supply and avoid congestion caused by ship charging gathering. The model can be easily generalized to other problems regarding facility allocation based on user demand.

Article presents comparison of the energetic balance of vehicle powertrain - pure electric vehicle and vehicle equipped with electric hybrid power transmission. Society is more and more often persuaded to buy electric cars as an environmentally friendly solution because they have opinion of ecological vehicles. Electrification in military applications is also widely considered, especially in case of small to medium UGV’s such as wide range of robotic systems introduced to the milatary operations. The article presents the problems of comparing the efficiency and others parameters such as the range of a two presented powertrains. The research was carried out on an small unmanned land platform equipped with a hybrid propulsion system supplied as standard with Diesel power generator and electrically only powered. Energy used for charging of the battery, from tank-to-wheel, was calculated. This also enables to calculate total efficiency of electric and hybrid power transmission. By calculating different capacity of battery and power of generator, it is possible to determine the vehicle range.

Recently a huge progress in the field of electrical machines makes them more available for aviation. Assuming a big leap forward of electric technology in the near future, many research institutes around the World examine a revolutionary propulsion system which employs electrical machines. This idea can be a perfect response to a drastically growing air traffic and its demands about emission and fuel consumption reduction. There are already manufactured full electric, ultralight airplanes, which show that the technology is promising and future-proof. What is more it seems to be a key enabler for the development of the other technology that will influence the future of aircraft design and will allow introducing completely new airplane architectures. That is why Institute of Aviation in collaboration with The Ohio State University conducts investigation and analysis on feasibility of using such systems for aircraft propulsion. For this task a completely new tool based on Numerical Propulsion System Simulation (NPSS) environment is being developed. It will enable to analyse the electric devices conjugated with turbine engine as a whole propulsion system in the matter of its performance characteristics. The purpose of this paper is to present some of the most promising ideas and already accomplished analysis of different kinds of architectures. The analysis and optimization of the system, as well as cost effectiveness will be presented.
