Deterioration of the natural environment as a result of violation of its natural structures and self-regulatory mechanisms causes an urgent need to replace chemicals with effective and multidirectional biopreparations. Reduction of the amount of chemicals used in agriculture becomes possible through the use of Effective Microorganisms. This will reduce the burden on the environment. Agriculture that uses EM technology can count on help with germination rates; emergence uniformity; and crop yields, for example. EM formulations contain a mixture of different coexisting microorganisms. The following paper presents the results of own research on the use of Effective Microorganisms in seed dressing of spring wheat. It was shown that the microbial preparation EM Naturally Active affects the increase of wheat seed germination dynamics.

In the paper, the concept of non-local line method is presented and used for determining the effective length for notched elements. Experimental tests and calculations were performed for 40 HM-T (42CrMo4+QT) steel made specimens of two types, i.e. smooth specimens, and notched specimens with notch radius equal to 0.2 mm, 0.5 mm, 0.8 mm, and 1 mm. The performed FEM calculations took into account the multi-linear hardening model and cyclic material properties. The concept of the presented non-local line method bases on finding the position of critical plane and determining the effective length, meant as the fracture process zone. During numerical stress gradient simulations, also the weight function was implemented. It was observed that the effective length increases as the load increases.

The aim of the paper is to analyze the importance of two virtues: temperance and prudence for genesis of the Effective Altruism and practice of life of effective altruists, on the basis of philosophical works of two main representatives of the idea and movement: Peter Singer and William MacAskill. In the first part of the paper genesis of the movement and its basic assumptions are presented. Then, the paper focuses on the role of temperance and prudence in both theoretical refl ection on effective altruism and practice of life of people identifying themselves with the movement, with reference to Aristotle’s understanding of the virtues. It is argued, that these virtues are crucial in the practice of life of an effective altruist. In the last part the paper focuses on the idea that Effective Altruism is in a sense an alternative to consumerism and can play a role in bringing mentioned virtues back into public life.

In the paper the concept of synthetic aperture used for high resolution/high frame rate ultrasonic imaging is reviewed. The synthetic aperture technique allows building extended “virtual” apertures, synthesized from smaller real aperture resulting in improved lateral resolution along full penetration depth without sacrificing the frame rate. Especially, four methods, synthetic aperture focusing (SAF), multi-element synthetic aperture focusing (M-SAF), synthetic receive aperture (SRA) and synthetic transmit aperture (STA) are addressed. The effective aperture function, describing two-way, far field radiation is a useful tool in beam pattern analysis. Some basic notations, which are used to calculate the effective aperture are introduced in Appendix.

The aim of this paper is to present a method of constructing effective portfolios with application of Wolfs algorithm. The effective portfolios are understood as those which have the lowest risk at give rate of return, and, conversely, which have the highest returns at given risk level. In classic Markowitz model, the rate of return is understood as expected returns which in practice is replaced by a mean return. The variance of the portfolio returns is considered as the risk measure. Ready-made programs may be used to construct effective portfolios. In practice, using these application causes some problems. In order to calculate the portfolios efficiently, we have written an application in the Delphi programming language using a suitably adapted Wolf’s algorithm.
Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie metody uzyskiwania portfeli efektywnych przy zastosowaniu algorytmu Wolfa, czyli portfeli, które przy danej stopie zwrotu posiadałyby najniższe ryzyko, zaś dla danego poziomu ryzyka charakteryzowałyby się najwyższą stopą zwrotu. W klasycznym modelu Markowitza przez stopę zwrotu, rozumie się oczekiwaną stopę zwrotu w praktyce zastępowaną średnią stopą zwrotu, za miarę ryzyka przyjmuje się wariancję stóp zwrotu z portfela. W celu wyznaczenia portfela efektywnego można poshiżyć się gotowymi programami. W praktyce wykorzystanie tych aplikacji stwarza pewne problemy. By sprawnie wyznaczać portfele efektywne napisaliśmy program w Delphi wykorzystujący odpowiednio dostosowany algorytm Wolfa.

The world’s noticeable population growth is associated with an increased demand for agricultural products. The search for new solutions to increase crop productivity while ensuring environmental stability is becoming a key role. One such method is the use of the biopreparations containing Effective Microorganisms. EM consist of about 80 species of selected aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms, which have the ability to restore the biological balance. Professor Teruo Higa of Ryukyus University in Okinawa is the creator of Effective Microorganisms. When added to agricultural ecosystems they stimulate plant growth, improve the condition of soils affected by excessive use of chemical fertilizers allowing insoluble forms of elements to be transformed into plant-available forms and protect them from certain diseases and pests. This solution is an ecological alternative to conventional technologies and does not further pollute the ecosystem, which is crucial. Organic fertilizers in the form of EMs are made using live microorganisms they do not only deliver nutrients to the soil but also allow inactive ones to become available. With improved nutrient uptake and protection from soil pathogens, plants develop and grow better for improved yields. They contain organic matter and one or more biologically active organic compounds (amino acids, vitamins) as well as macroand microelements that stimulate plant growth and development. They provide plants with essential substances, which are naturally synthesized in many complex biochemical processes, causing energy savings that can be used for other transformations in the plant.

Effective diffusivity (De) of cadmium compounds was calculated in the beads. The study was carried out using two methods: a shrinking core model (SCM) method and a newly developed method named conductometric. It turned out to be a simple and effective method for the calculation of effective diffusivity of Cd(II) in alginate sorbents. The De values obtained by the two methods depended on the alginate content in the beads. However, SCM, in contrast to the conductometric method, gave De values increasing with increasing alginate levels in the beads and lower than the molecular diffusivity of Cd(II), this being inconsistent with the mechanism of diffusion in porous carriers. Hence, the conductometric method can be considered as one giving more reliable results, compared with the SCM method. Moreover, diffusion retardation coefficients for the alginate beads were calculated. Enhanced content of the biopolymer in the beads caused retardation of Cd(II) diffusion in the beads due to the decreasing calculated retardation coefficients with the increasing alginate contents in the beads.

The homogenization theory has been applied to evaluation of effective moduli of a network of interconnected elastic rods modelling human cancellous bone. Numerical computations of the Young modulus, Poisson ratio and shear modulus have been carried out. The obtained results compare fevourably with available experimental data.
Teorię homogenizacji zastosowano do wyznaczania efektywnych własności mechanicznych dla regularnej sieci elastycznych prętów modelujących kość gąbczastą. Wyznaczono numerycznie efektywne stałe techniczne: moduł Younga, współczynnik Poissona i moduł ścinania. Wyniki porównano z wynikami ekperymentalnymi uzyskując dobrą zgodność.

Crisis is a word which nowadays is used in all forms and contexts. The year 2008 was a prelude to what now and in the year 2011 concerns not only entrepreneurs, but also every average inhabitant of the globe. Even though the crisis, the world has found itself in, concerns mainly the economic aspects. Hardly anyone talks about its other implications such as problems in the sphere of image. Despite differing definitions, economy and image are not that far apart, as especially in case of crises both notions are closely intertwined. It is hard not to notice that in a situation where economic perturbations take place in a company, it becomes very easy to transfer such problems to the area of activities associated with image. Figures, which naturally don't lie, show us the direction, which later is taken over by messages targeted both at the interior of the organization and the external environment. This way a general crisis of a company deepens, and its situation becomes definitely uncomfortable. In such case not only the issue of economic stabilization but also the way it is presented becomes a problem. Incorrectly managed process of managing a crisis situation may contribute first of all to irreversible changes in the sphere of image or even its bankruptcy, which may in turn lead to financial losses. For this reason its is essential to prepare appropriate documentation, which can help efficiently communicate in times of crisis or avert a crisis before it actually takes place. This is the subject of this article, which is supposed to show whether Polish companies are prepared for an image crisis and how it is possible to cope with it. The article refers mainly to the results of the research carried out by a team under the guidance of the author of this article and the president of Alter Media Communications, Adam Łaszyn.

We consider the classic Lagrange long gravitational wave of a homogeneous incompressible fluid in a shallow canal with a corrugated bottom. We use the asymptotic expansion method to find the effective depth of a one-dimensional canal and, hence, the effective wave velocity. A flow in a two-dimensional tank with a corrugated bottom is also studied by this method.

This paper aims to contribute to the existing studies on the Granger-causal relationship between volatility and liquidity in the stock market. We examine whether liquidity improves volatility forecasts and whether volatility allows the improvement of liquidity forecasts. The forecasts based on the mixed-data sampling models, MIDAS, are compared to those obtained from models based on daily data. Our results show that volatility and liquidity forecasts from MIDAS models outperform naive forecasts. On the other hand, the application of mixed-data sampling models does not significantly improve the performance of the forecasts of either liquidity or volatility based on a univariate autoregressive model or a vectorautoregressive one. We found that in terms of the forecasting ability, the VAR models and the AR models seem to perform equally well, as the differences in forecasting errors generated by these two types of models are not statistically significant.

In the current research, we surveyed the effective factors of accidents that had occurred on the road from Hamadan to Sanandaj. Road transportation is an inseparable part and the backbone of all transportation networks of most countries. Driving accidents are considered the major problem of road transportation and the increment process of accidents is so that it has reached crisis proportions. Basically, in road accidents, three factors are considered to be of importance: human activity, road and vehicle condition. The current research is a field study in the terms of data collection method and is considered to be Applied Research in the terms of purpose (or objective) and studied subject nature. The study population consists of suburban public transport fleet drivers working the Sanandaj - Hamadan road (26 persons). The tool was a questionnaire. In order to analyze the statistical data, the resulting information from the questionnaires were firstly extracted and then analysed by applying the Pearson correlation test. The results show that there is a clear relationship between the effective factors of accidents and road accidents.

Nowadays Internet technologies are becoming more capable of supporting traditional ways of teaching. Education portals in particular offer lessons in various domains as supportive means for experienced tutors to deliver knowledge to students. The aim of this study is to present the solutions offered by various educational centres and to analyse supportive methods of teaching. The paper presents. A discussion about the approaches to the formulation of a list of teaching methods supporting traditional lessons. The next part is devoted to an overview of selected educational portals offering courses in the business informatics area. Then the paper concerns the comparison of the applied methods of teaching which support classic lessons. The utility of particular methods in teaching selected courses is demonstrated and evaluated according to the defined survey assumptions. Finally, suggestions concerning the hybridisation of various supporting teaching methods are proposed

Demographic ageing will affect the EU economy, public finances and adequacy and sustainability of pension systems. A key response to the challenge of ageing population is the extension of working lives. This paper seeks an answer for the question if the partial pension may be an efficient solution to make people work longer. Comparative analysis of the partial retirement in selected EU countries gives no unquestionable conclusions in this question, especially in terms of hours worked. The results highly depend on the construction of the partial pensions and the changes on the labour market. Taking into account both the further pension reforms to make people work longer and simultaneously the pressure on the pension replacement rates, the idea of the partial pension seems to be attractive and worth further research
