The fifteen-year-old Chair has formed an unconventional school of training. Its fundamental features are: inseparability of urbanism and architecture, priority of shaping a healthy habitat place for man in all scales and aspects and aiming at a many-sided treatment of space from the subject matter of the town and district to mutual functional and spatial relations in a small urban complex with an equiponderant treatment of a spatial composition in an urban and an architectural scale with reference to the spirit of a given place and its context.

Na populacji 320 studentów przeprowadzono, metodą wywiadu standaryzowanego, badania dotyczące wykorzystania komputerów i Internetu w procesie kształcenia. Zdecydowana większość - 75% studentów posiadających komputery uznaje ich dużą przydatność w studiowaniu, a podobną opinię dotycząca przydatności Internetu wyraziło 81% badanych. Według ocen studentów od 70 do 80% nauczycieli wykorzystuje technologie informacyjne, ale jedynie 30 do 40% docenia umiejętności studentów w tym zakresie.
A population of 320 students was tested regarding the use of computers and Internet in the education process, with the use of standardized interview method. The vast majority - 75% of students that own computers acknowledge that those are very useful in studying, and similar opinion in reference to the Internet was expressed by 81% of tested students. According to students' opinions, between 70 and 80% of teachers use information technologies, but only 30 to 40% appreciate students' skills in this field.

The article presents a pilot study of the tasks of support teachers in relation to students with autism, including those with Asperger’s syndrome. Data contained in the Educational Information System shows a significant increase in the number of students with this type of disorder studying in integrated units and mainstream schools. The education of students with autism and Asperger’s syndrome is difficult due to their deficits in the cognitive sphere, as well as problems in social and emotional functioning. When carried out in an appropriate manner, with relevant professionalsupport, the inclusion of autistic children may be beneficial both for the children’s intellectual, social and emotional development, as well as other students.

With the Great Charter of Universities as a point of departure, the author discusses the four tasks of the university: (1) search for the truth (2) education which supplies students them with the latest scientific knowledge and the skills that knowledge justifies (3) student formation in the spirit of tolerance, pluralism and openness to dialogue, (4) popularizing scientific knowledge. For their accomplishment to be unconstrained (by ideological, religious, xenophobic or economic limitations), as well as effective and ethical, the university must be free and autonomous. Nowadays humanities and social sciences are particularly exposed to factors that damage or hinder this autonomy and freedom, which is regrettably the case especially in countries that declare attachment to democratic values, yet trample them at the same time. The author is very critical of the state’s policy of evaluating scholarly activities of universities based on converting scientific output into points. According to the author, this produces a greatly simplified and distorted picture of their achievements. What is more, it also encourages certain academics (for whom „survival” at a given institute or department is at stake) to engage in unethical behaviour: plagiarism of other people’s works, falsification of empirical research results, fabrication of findings, guest authorship, ghost authorship. One of the major solutions aimed to counter such unethical practices is to depart from bibliometric evaluation (via IF, H index) in favour of peer review. It is also necessary to implement new publishing practices, which would require replication of empirical studies, access to raw results provided by authors, as well as preregistration assessment of research projects so as to take works in which positive results were not obtained (thus failing to bear out the initial hypothesis) into consideration as well.

The situation of disabled students in Polish schools and universities has improved over the last years, however it is still not perfect. As NIK’s audit showed, in many places barriers still exist, which makes it impossible for the disabled to function in the same way as able students do. Problems stem from the construction of buildings, which are not adjusted to the needs of the disabled, unfriendly technical facilities and difficulties with accessing the full educational offer. Despite these shortages, the majority of the schools have not fully used the funds they receive for current support for the disabled.

The effectiveness of the content of physical education of students of medical college has been studied for one academic year through their involvement into systematic physical activity. One of the results of resolving this problem was students’ improvement in morphofunctional indexes. The developed organizational and methodological principles were the basis of the proposed content through the involvement of students of medical college for physical activity during physical education classes. Each position included a set of rules that were performed in a certain sequence during the formation of the content of physical education and its implementation in classes. Proposed development has provided 21 girls and 19 boys significantly better results in solving problems within a year than 58 girls and 35 boys who used the content of physical education that was formed and implemented without specified experimental factor.Key words: motivation, physical activity, physical education, students of medical college.

Background. Practical PE teacher training during school placements is an important part of the process of education of physical education students and have a large impact on their preparation for the profession and the quality of teacher’s work. The quality of students’ practical teacher training is reflected in the standard of PE classes run at school and children’s participation in these classes. Therefore, many studies deal with this topic. There are also projects which aim to improve the organization of students’ teacher training in physical education. This paper presents the main weaknesses and challenges of practical school placement systems and a variety of solutions already implemented in Poland and other countries in Europe and the United States. Material and methods. In this article the computer-based literature search was conducted in the following databases: EBSCOHost, PubMed, Science Direct, ScienceDirect On Line. Also manual search of all available issues of pertinent journals was carried out. Results. The findings suggest that there is too little involvement of university teachers in the practical school placements. Conclusions. There is the need to improve cooperation between university teachers and the physical education teachers during physical education teacher training.

The aim of the study. Help autistic children in Ukraine is inadequate due to a lack of well-trained specialists. This article is dedicated to the problem of preparation of specialists for the work with autistic children by the module system of higher education. Methods. The methodological basis for constructing an educational module is to use the elements of graph theory, which can detect basic blocks, functions of the educational module, and identify the components of the content of the module and install interrelationships between them. To determine the content of the educational module were used the results of the survey of parents and professionals who work with autistic children. There have also been investigated indicators of 60 autistic children by Binet-Simon and CARS methods in the experimental and reference group. In the experimental group are specialists who have been trained by TEACCH method, whereas in reference group are specialists who do not have special education in the fi eld of ASD. Results. The results of the survey of parents and professionals as well as indicators of autistic children of experimental and reference group have shown a greater progress in development of autistic children in experimental group. Taking into account the results an educational modul for preparation of psychologists for work with autistic children wasconstructed. The modul consists of 8 blocks that include clinical, correctional and therapeutic knowledge and covers 5 functions of preparation of practical psychologists: diagnostical, predictive, corrective, coordinative and  productive, that provides success in the development of autistic child. Conclusions. Creation and the improvement of the contents of the modules, which deal with the question of autistic disorders, are interconnected with the quality of providing educational and correctional-teaching services for children and families in which they are educated.

CEL NAUKOWY: Celem naukowym artykułu jest rozpoczęcie dyskusji dotyczącej zastosowania podejścia doceniającego w pracy ze studentami pedagogiki. PROBLEM I METODY BADAWCZE: Główny problem badawczy artykułu został zamknięty w pytaniu o możliwości zastosowania podejścia doceniającego w kształceniu studentów kierunków pedagogicznych. Zastosowano metodę analizy literatury przedmiotu dotyczącej podstaw oraz ewolucji podejścia doceniającego w zestawieniu z publikacjami dotyczącymi pozytywnej nauki o organizacji (Positive Organizational Scholarschip). PROCES WYWODU: W tekście zaprezentowano ustalenia definicyjne stosowanych pojęć, podstawy teoretyczne podejścia doceniającego, jego zarys historyczny oraz zasady i etapy zastosowania w praktyce. Zarysowano również koncepcje organizacji wysokiej efektywności, która swoje źródło ma w pozytywnej nauce o organizacji. WYNIKI ANALIZY NAUKOWEJ: Podejście doceniające, jako odmiana action research ukierunkowana na optymalizację organizacji, stosowane jest najczęściej w naukach o zarządzaniu i marketingu. W literaturze anglojęzycznej na przestrzeni ostatnich dziesięcioleci można zauważyć wykorzystywanie appreciative inquiry w edukacji, jednak nie jest to podnoszone w literaturze rodzimej. Stosowanie podejścia doceniającego w naukach o zarządzaniu przedstawia bardzo pozytywne efekty zastosowania. Implikując je na teren edukacji akademickiej, a zwłaszcza grupy zajęciowej, która może być postrzegana jako organizacja (z osobą prowadzącą przedmiot jako liderem i wdrażającą appreciative inquiry), można przypuszczać, że podejście to powinno być stosowane nie tylko jako sposób rozwiązywania problemów, lecz przede wszystkim jako efektywny sposób pracy ze studentami. WNIOSKI, INNOWACJE, REKOMENDACJE: Podejście doceniające stanowi ciekawy i wartościowy sposób nie tylko rozwiązywania problemów w organizacji, ale także może i powinno być stosowane jako sposób pracy ze studentami pedagogiki.
  RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The scientific aim of this article is to start a discussion on the application of the appreciative inquiry in working with students of pedagogy. THE RESEARCH PROBLEMS AND METHODS: The main research problem of the article is closed in the question about the possibilities of applying the appreciative inquiry in educating students in the pedagogical fields. The literature analysis method concerning the foundations and evolution of the appreciative inquiry was used in conjunction with publications on positive organizational scholarschip. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The text presents the definitions of the concepts used, the theoretical foundations of the appreciative inquiry, its historical outline, the principles and stages of practical application, as well. What is more, High Performance Organization, which source takes place in the positive science of organization, was also outlined. RESEARCH RESULTS: The appreciative inquiry, as a variety of action research oriented towards the optimization of organization, is most often used in management and marketing sciences. In the English-language literature during the last decades, the use of appreciative inquiry in education has been noted, but it is not mentioned in the native literature. The application of the appreciative inquiry in management sciences has very positive application effects. Transferring them in the area of academic education, especially within the class group, which can be perceived as an organization, it can be assumed that the application of this approach should be used not only as a way of solving problems, but, first of all, as an effective way of working with students. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: The appreciative inquiry is an interesting and valuable way not only to solve problems in an organization, but, it can and should be used as a way of working with students of pedagogy, as well.

The author discusses the current state of alternative education and describes views presented in scientific literature and in the media, showing also Polish parents interest in alternative education. In the main part of the article a research method was presented as an alternative method to work with children at school, outside of school and at university. The idea was shown on the basis of cooperation between Childrens University and Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski University in Krakow, the outcome of which was a series of classes for pedagogy students and a series of lessons for children conducted with the use of alternative research method which took place on the university premises. Finally the author assigns the presented method (following Kupisiewiczs thought) to the category of incomplete alternative approaches which refer to individual elements of educational process.

Opis:

The paper drawn attention to natural philosophy as a branch of philosophical studies aimed at rational comprehension of the integrity of nature and its fundamental principle. It has been necessary to provide confidence in the knowledge of natural philosophy of modern university students, as this knowledge helps them to understand the nature of a general. That allows the students to understand all things in their unity and in a variety of forms, build a rational and scientific picture of the world, as a whole, from inorganic nature - to life and human life.
W pracy omówiono znaczenie i zasady filozofii przyrody, stanowiącej gałąź nauk filozoficznych, dla racjonalnego pojmowania integralności natury i zasad jej funkcjonowania. Koniecznym więc jest przekazywanie tego typu wiedzy studentom wyższych uczelni, gdyż pomoże im ona w lepszym zrozumieniu otaczającego nas świata w powiązaniu z kierunkiem stanowiącym przedmiot ich studiów.

W artykule zwrócono uwagę na kilka czynników, których negatywne oddziaływanie da się zaobserwować w kształceniu przyszłych psychologów oraz w uprawianiu praktyki psychologicznej w Polsce. Do najważniejszych czynników zagrażających autor zaliczył: Systematyczne obniżanie standardów akademickich; „zaśmiecanie” psychologii pseudonaukowymi koncepcjami. 2. Umasowienie studiów psychologicznych. 3. Brak wyraźnych kryteriów dopuszczających (odrzucających) do wykonywania zawodu psychologa; obniżanie rangi społecznej zawodu. 4. Brak merytorycznej (ustawowo zagwarantowanej) kontroli nad instytucjami prowadzącymi szkolenia i kursy psychologiczne; żerowanie na naiwności studentów i młodych, jeszcze niedoświadczonych, absolwentów. 5. Zbyt liberalna polityka państwa w zakresie otwierania kierunku studiów psychologia przez nowe uczelnie oraz zgłaszanie przez różne uczelnie ofert studiów z poziomu BA ze słowem „psychologia” w tytule, co sugeruje, iż absolwent takich studiów uzyska wykształcenie psychologiczne uprawniające go do świadczenia usług psychologicznych. 6. Obniżanie kryteriów oceny (egzaminy, zaliczenia) efektów kształcenia. 7. Brak zrównoważenia ocen pracowników uczelni – ważniejsza jest ocena za osiągnięcia naukowe aniżeli ocena za osiągnięcia dydaktyczne. 8. Ponawianie prób wprowadzenia do organizacji studiów psychologicznych systemu bolońskiego (studia dwustopniowe). Intencją autora artykułu było uwrażliwienie środowiska polskich psychologów na potencjalne zagrożenia dla poziomu badań naukowych, dydaktyki akademickiej oraz praktyki psychologicznej.
The article focuses on several factors whose negative influence can be observed in the process of educating future psychologists and in the psychological practice in Poland. The following are regarded by the author as the most detrimental: The systematic lowering of academic standards; infusing psychology with pseudo-scientific concepts. 2. The transition from elite to mass education at psychological studies. 3. The absence of clear-cut criteria granting or refusing admission to the profession of psychologist; the increasing devaluation of the profession’s status. 4. The lack of substantive (statutorily guaranteed) control over the institutions which offer psychological trainings and courses; preying on the naivety of students and young, inexperienced graduates. 5. Too liberal policy of the state concerning the setting up of new major courses in psychology by newly established schools and offering by various academic institutions BA courses with the word “psychology” in the course title, which suggests that the graduates will possess qualifications in psychology entitling them to render psychological services. 6. The lowering of the criteria assessing the effects of education (examinations, credits). 7. The lack of balance in the assessment of academics – the assessment of research performance is more important than judging the standard of teaching. 8. Recurrent attempts at implementing the Bologna system into the organisation of psychological studies (the two cycles system – Bachelor/Master). It is the author’s aim to draw the attention of Polish psychologists to the potential threats which may impact the level of research performance, the standard of teaching, and psychological practice.

Opis:

The main aim of this article is to present the analysis of the approaches to the idea of emancipation in grades 1–3. The study was conducted by the second-year students of the second degree of pedagogy of early childhood. This article attempts to identify the values recognized by the authors of works to be important in early childhood education, preferred ways of achieving the goals and the teacher–student relationship. The results of analysis of educational projects enrich the research participants’ statements. The last part of the text are the conclusions.
Głównym celem artykułu jest prezentacja analizy opracowanych przez studentki II roku II st. pedagogiki wczesnoszkolnej koncepcji realizacji idei emancypacyjnej w klasach I–III. W artykule podjęto próbę wskazania wartości uznanych przez autorki prac za ważne w edukacji wczesnoszkolnej, preferowanych sposobów osiągania celów oraz relacji nauczyciel– uczeń. Wyniki analizy projektów edukacyjnych wzbogacają wypowiedzi uczestniczek badań. Ostatnią część tekstu stanowią wnioski.

In a changing society and in the era of ever-increasing development of technology and communication, the importance of human movement is being marginalised. A child’s spontaneous physical activity is often suppressed and replaced by passive activities. That happens at home and school. As a consequence, the level of physical fitness and the range of motor skills are decreased. People are aware of the importance of movement for the proper functioning of human body, but not always they apply the sound rules in practice. Both the suggestions contained in the new core curriculum of a general education and the ways of implementing the contents of physical education provide the teacher with a wide range of possibilities. Thus arises the need to expand the range of competences which students will acquire during university classes. Modification of the educational content by adjusting more to the expectations of the contemporary school is one of the ways to meet this goal

In an empirical quantitative study, the aim of which was to examine more thoroughly the representation of recognition and appreciation of the individual abilities of children in preschool education from the point of view of students, 321 respondents participated – students of the first and second cycles of preschool education programmes of faculties from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Slovenia. The main findings of the study indicate that although students highly value the recognition and appreciation of individual abilities in working with children, the degree of recognition of children’s abilities is higher in relation to their appreciation in practice, as well as a more optimal appreciation of the individual abilities of children without than with developmental difficulties.

This article deals with the problem of academic education of students of Social Work, future social workers, in the field of legal issues. The profession of a social worker requires a broad interdisciplinary knowledge. It consists in providing help to a client in need of support in overcoming life’s hardships, which he cannot overcome alone using his own capabilities, competences and resources.Amon at empowering the client. Problems faced by a social worker when applying the law are connected with a large volume of legal acts, their interpretive unanimity and constant variability (disrupting the sense of stability). The correct application of the law by social workers in the assistance and activation process, requires the appropriate methodical influence in the process of their education, the appropriate selection of issues to be addressed, including problems with which a social worker will have contact in their work. Equally noteworthy is the method of transferring knowledge in the field of legal issues and taking into account the practical aspect of the presented issues. The study analyzed the curricula of selected universities in Poland, in the field of social work, in terms of students’ legal education.

The present article presents the genesis of the international conference: andhighGeometry and geometrical education in the current second high school, which took place on November 22-25, 2012 in Togliatti StateUniversity. This conference was dedicated to the 70th jubilee of professorW.A. Gusiew (В.А. Гусев), world-wide famous professor of Mathematicseducation, author and co-author of Geometry textbooks and methodologicalguidebooks for teachers of Maths, published for the need of students’ geometricaleducation and having recommendation of the Russian Ministry ofEducation and Science. In this work the crucial threads of the plenary lectureof professor W.A. Gusiew and the points of the scientific program of theTogliatti Conference are discussed. The plenary lecture, as well as papersand groups’ and round table discussions revealed the results of research onthe problems of Geometry, and the state, quality and current problems ofgeometrical education of pupils and students. Both Russian and foreign participantsof the conference, while judging and summarizing the results of theconference, jointly expressed their concerns about the slow pace of adaptingthe educational systems to the Bologna process, and about the current stateand quality of Maths education. The legitimacy of those concerns is shownby the lower motivation of pupils and students to study Geometry and Maths, reduced number of Maths hours in school, confusing standards of Mathseducation, reduced requirements on the Maths school-leaving examinationand Maths exams in universities.

Cel badań. Celem badań była ocena i porównanie poziomu wiedzy dotyczącej uwarunkowań zdrowia i edukacji zdrowotnej studentów wychowania fizycznego i innych specjalności nauczycielskich. Materiał i metody. Zastosowaną metodą był sondaż diagnostyczny, a narzędziem test wiedzy. Badania przeprowadzono w losowo wybranej grupie 607 osób, w tym 464 kobiet (76,44%) i 143 mężczyzn (23,56%) – studentów III roku studiów licencjackich czterech krakowskich uczelni: Uniwersytetu Pedagogicznego, Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego, Krakowskiej Akademii oraz Akademii Wychowania Fizycznego. Poziom wiedzy oceniono za pomocą autorskiego testu wiedzy na temat zdrowia i jego uwarunkowań oraz edukacji zdrowotnej. Wyniki. Wśród młodzieży akademickiej dominował przeciętny poziom wiedzy w zakresie uwarunkowań zdrowia i edukacji zdrowotnej, zróżnicowany w zależności od płci, wyższy wśród studentek niż studentów. Nie stwierdzono natomiast statystycznie istotnych różnic między studentami poszczególnych uczelni, niezależnie od programu studiów czy realizowania treści z zakresu edukacji i profilaktyki zdrowotnej. Wnioski. Zróżnicowany poziom wiedzy w zakresie czynników warunkujących zdrowie może wyznaczać kierunki i cele edukacji zdrowotnej studentów.
Background. The study purpose was to evaluate and compare the level of knowledge in health determinants and health education among students of physical education and other teaching specialties. Material and methods. The diagnostic survey method and the knowledge test tool were applied. The research was conducted in a randomly selected group of 607 third year students from four Cracow universities: Pedagogical University, Jagiellonian University, Krakow University, and University of Physical Education. The level of knowledge was assessed with the authors’ test concerning health, its determinants, and health education. Results. An average level of knowledge dominated among the students; it varied between genders, being higher in women. There were, though, no statistically significant differences between different universities, regardless of the study program or the implementation of content in the field of health. Conclusions. The differentiated level of knowledge in health determinants may settle the directions and goals of health education for students.

Opis:

The article concerns the subject virtually absent in both theoretical and empirical discussion. It is an attempt to determine a basic outline of the educating concept in a group of various ages, the proposals aiming at teaching in mixed classes as a way to work in small country schools. My reflection is situated in the context of changes in the number of primary school pupils’ population and the effect it has on the structure of education system. At the same time, it is an invitation to co-operate in the field of theoretical and empirical verification of the proposed solutions.
Artykuł porusza kwestię kształcenia zróżnicowanych wiekowo grup uczniów szkoły podstawowej. Stanowi próbę nakreślenia zarysu koncepcji edukacji w grupie zróżnicowanej wiekowo oraz daje propozycje rozwiązań, które mogą umożliwić nauczycielom efektywne uczenie klas łączonych w małych szkołach na wsi. Przedstawiona refleksja powinna być odczytana w kontekście zmiany liczby uczniów szkół podstawowych i jej wpływu na całą strukturę systemu edukacji. Jednocześnie artykuł wskazuje na innowacyjność teoretycznego i empirycznego badania proponowanych rozwiązań.

Opis:

One of the key success factors in the IT industry is innovation. It is an integral part of this industry and determines its development and, in addition, there are clear links between innovation and entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship in the IT industry is of significant economic and social importance as it currently affects virtually every sphere of our lives. This means huge challenges for the education system in the field of entrepreneurship education among future IT specialists. The aim of the article is to analyze entrepreneurial attitudes among IT students, as well as to identify opportunities and barriers to entrepreneurship development in the IT industry in the context of educational challenges. The author formulated the following main research issue: What are the educational challenges in the field of entrepreneurship of IT students? In the research, a survey questionnaire was used for IT students at the Pedagogical University of Krakow. Research has shown that in IT studies, the importance of shaping soft competences, which are necessary for running a business, are largely omitted. They should build confidence, which is very important for people who would like to start their business however are afraid of failure, and it is the main barrier to entrepreneurship development in the IT industry. Creative activities that stimulate business ideas also play an important role in educating entrepreneurship in IT students.

Opis:

Author of this article expresses belife that education is an essential tool for addressing most of the socio-economic challenges. Therefore, increasing access to education for children with disabilities can open up a whole lot of new and diverse opportunities for them. Base on datas the author certifyed, that most children with disabilities in African countries do not have access to good quality education. Consequently, they are less likely to get employed and are at increased odds of living in severe poverty. Traditionally, children with disabilities have been served in special education classes. However, not all schools in African countries have special education classes or facilities. According to the latest census data from across 11 African countries many children with disabilities are never enrolled into schools. This chapter summarizes the current state of affairs regarding the educational outcomes of children with disabilities, the challenges associated with adoption of inclusive education in African schools and proposes an inclusive education framework to facilitate its implantation and to guide schools in assessing their inclusive education efforts.

The purpose of this article is to present research conducted in Poland enabling the evaluation of the structure and level of perceptual musical abilities of thirdgrade students finishing their early-school education. The evaluation was based on A. Weiner’s Test of Perceptual Musical Abilities which examines important areas of music perception, including the complex structure of the abilities. The research presented herein is unique and the analysis of differences in gender-related results provides essential information on the strong and weak aspects of the skills. The research does not confirm the numerous reports indicating the superiority of girls in music tests.

Opis:

Teachers play a vital role in students’ intellectual and personal development, hence they help to prepare citizens. Therefore, it is worth asking what their views are on a “perfectly inclusive” world vision. To analyse the teachers’ perception, the study explored two areas: their outlook on an inclusive society and the importance of an inclusive education for marginalised groups. The research comprised teachers working with Special Educational Needs (SEN) students: 55 from integration schools, 48 from regular schools, 45 from special schools (those with intellectual disability (ID) and autism). The data was collected using a questionnaire. The findings highlighted that all groups thought that people with disabilities primarily needed help and support, special school teachers felt most strongly about this. Special educational needs teachers most strongly disagreed that their group were afraid of the disabled or felt hostility towards them compared to the other two groups. All groups had milder opinions regarding other types of marginalised people. The majority of special school teacher’s had views similar to general society regarding that the presence of refugees in society could pose a danger, whilst most teachers from regular schools thought that refugees were here for work and social care. In light of the study, all groups agreed that regular schools were not the best place for pupils with SEN, however they would make an exception for students with mild disabilities, the children of refugees, and those from national and ethnic minorities. Special schools teachers working with students with severe disabilities strongly agreed that students with an ID and autism generally, should stay in the separated model of education. All groups regarded that the goal of an “education for all” was an unrealistic expectation especially in the near future, just as the goal of an “inclusive society”.

Opis:

Social competences are one of the most important areas of an individual’s functioning in the surrounding environment. They are so important that, apart from knowledge and skills, they have become one of higher education’s outcomes. The level of social competence depends not only on the internal qualities of an individual but also on environmental factors. This article aims to present the findings of research concerning the level of social competences attained by students of tourism and recreation throughout their higher education and comprises quantitative and qualitative research methods. The results indicate that students show only average levels of social competence even though their academic teachers declare that education outcomes have been accomplished in this field.

In recent years, the situation of people with disabilities in Poland has been attracting ever-growing public attention. Changes in higher education influence university candidates and students with disabilities as well. While necessary infrastructure is operational and functioning, there is still much to be done by the academics and the administration. However, we notice gradually increasing awareness that disability does not have to be a restriction, and it should not definitely be an obstacle to students who want to study. Universities strive to ensure all students have equal opportunities for education and their possibility of participating fully in the life of the academic community, due to a disability, is not anyhow limited or diminished.
Od kilku lat w Polsce zainteresowanie sytuacją osób niepełnosprawnych rośnie. Zmiany w szkolnictwie wyższym obejmują także kandydatów na studentów i studentów z niepełnosprawnością. O ile infrastruktura działa coraz lepiej, o tyle zarówno nauczyciele akademiccy, jak i administracja mają jeszcze wiele do zrobienia. Stopniowo zwiększa się jednak świadomość, że niepełnosprawność nie musi być ograniczeniem, także w dostępie do nauki na uczelni wyższej. Uniwersytety dążą do tego, aby studenci mieli jednakowe szanse na kształcenie i nie doświadczali ograniczeń w uczestniczeniu w życiu społeczności akademickiej np. z powodu niepełnosprawności.

The State of Israel, like other developed countries around the world, engages intensively in the thinking about and care of students with special needs (SwSN). Israel attempts to open rang of possibilities to this population in its considerable diversity, while responding to the challenges faced by the population of students defined in Israel as „special education”. This article presents the developing approaches, which are at the basis of the special educational system in Israel, as a case study of the reference to SwSn. The first part of the article presents the ideological elements of the special education system in Israel throughout its historical development, and the second part presents the way in which the continuum of the educational frameworks was understood to serve the educational perception.

The aim of this work is to demonstrate the relationship between the level of hopelessness of students in tourism education and their desire to make a career in tourism. The data was collected from bachelor-level students in Sinop, a city at the top of Turkey’s life satisfaction and happiness index, by using a survey technique. In order to describe the data collected, frequency and arithmetic mean tests were used, whereas t-tests and variance analysis were used to determine differences between variables, and correlation was used to determine the relationship. As a result of the research, it was found that there is a negative relationship between the desire to make a career in tourism and level of hopelessness amongst the students.

Opis:

This article presents selected factors conditioning the sense of coherence among university students. Results were obtained after analysis of statistical data collected in a group of 467 students. Antonovsky’s Sense of Coherence Questionnaire (SOC-29) was used in the research. The results obtained showed a predominance of a moderate level of the sense of coherence in the group of studied students. The study confirmed the existence of a dependency between the sense of coherence and the sex, year of study, and civil status of the studied persons. The other two variables, i.e., course of studies and declared level of religiosity, only showed certain tendencies. The results presented in this paper confirmed the need to shape coherence through education and socialization as a socially significant personal predisposition. The sense of coherence facilitates both self-reflection and self-development in the individual. Conclusions formulated on the basis of the obtained results point to the necessity of taking up a contemporary pedagogical challenge, which is health education. An additional recommendation is to enrich educational programs with activities the goal of which is to create a high sense of coherence in their recipients, which, by definition, should have pro-health consequences for a wide group of beneficiaries.

The aim of this article is to present a historical perspective on intercultural education, contemporary methods of supporting foreign students as well as the role of the teacher and the specific competence required to teach effectively in an intercultural environment. Contemporary methods of support are presented based on the example of good educational practice taking place at “Mieszko” Private Elementary School in Poznań. Actions that can be initiated by a teacher in early education have been divided into four areas: physical, didactic, social and in the classroom. The physical area addresses the issue of school space and activities that help to identify and address students’ difficulties in areas related to senses and coordination. The didactic area represents cultural events designed to entertain and educate; there are also examples of how to equalize educational opportunities among students. The subsequent area, encompassing activities carried out within a class group, show intercultural activities included in the curriculum and indicate which activities may help to control difficult behaviours of children. The social area activities are designed to support students in maintaining meaningful relationships with their peers and collaborating with other organizations that can complement and enrich intercultural formal education.

In this paper, the authors consider theoretical perspectives and empirical evidence of the method of assessment and evaluation by using knowledge tests, which significantly influence the quality of acquired knowledge. The students’ opinions on how they perceive the effects of applying tests in the assessment of the acquired knowledge were examined. The sample consisted of 415 students of the Faculty of Sciences, University of Novi Sad. The results indicate that in the structure of the perception of introducing tests as a method of students’ knowledge assessment, positive attitudes and students’ role affirmation in the process of knowledge acquisition slightly prevail.

The paper discussess the Faculty of Law of the Univeristy of Dorpat (today the Uni- versity of Tartu) up to the year 1918, as seen in the context. of the Polish students who studied there. After the November Uprising (1930-1931) Dorpat became a special place for Polish students in the XIX century, it being the only university in Russia where instruction was given in a language other than Russian. Young Polish patriots who did not want to study in Russian, travelled to this liberal German language university si- tuated in the city of Tartu. It was for this reason in XIX century that Dorpat become one of the most important places for educating the future Polish elite – politicians, doctors of medicine, lawyers, etc. Todays in Poland knowledge of this episode in our history is forgotten. The paper presents an overview of the University of Dorpat includ- ing in particular the history of its law faculty, outlines the law faculty’s curricula, and references some of the notable Poles who studied there.

The learning to learn competence is becoming more and more important, as it enables efficient learning, is developing awareness and planning one‘s own process of learning. With empirical research, we wanted to study some of its aspects in the 4th year (undergraduate) and 1st year students (postgraduate) of the Faculties of Education in Slovenia. To establish the students‘ evaluation of their ways of learning and competence to teach we used a questionnaire. With the use of the research, we established the growth of evaluation of the majority of aspects, which shows that the learning to learn competence is related to a better evaluation of students’ own way of learning and better marks. Reported findings reveal that this competence and its aspects have a great impact on the effectiveness of learning and success of students.

Opis:

Presented text is a review of selected Polish textbooks from interwar period and 1945-1950 in terms of presented worldviews. The analysis of presented books shows that both the selection of teaching material, as well as the assumed model student in the pre-war course books overtops the one in the workbooks from socialist realism era. They can also serve as a model for modem textbooks writers, because of their consideration for a man, family, society and culture, in the broad sense.

Opis:

The purpose of the study was to analyze the term of university connectedness and to prepare the Polish adaptation of the University Connectedness Scale – a tool for measuring university connectedness among students. The psychometric characteristics of the Polish version of the scale, named “Skala Poczucia Akademickiej Wspólnoty” (SPAW), were examined in a sample of 720 students. The structure of the SPAW was tested using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. The SPAW includes 18 items making up two subscales: support and belonging. Correlations between university connectedness and other variables support the diagnostic validity of the SPAW. The scale has both a good internal consistency and test-retest reliability. Overall, the SPAW is a reliable and valid tool which can be used to measure students’ university connectedness both for scientific and diagnostic purposes.
Celem badania była analiza pojęcia poczucia akademickiej wspólnoty oraz przygotowanie polskiej adaptacji the University Connectedness Scale – narzędzia służącego do pomiaru poczucia akademickiej wspólnoty wśród studentów. Właściwości psychometryczne polskiej wersji skali, nazwanej Skalą Poczucia Akademickiej Wspólnoty (SPAW), przetestowano w próbie 720 studentów. Struktura polskiej wersji narzędzia została zbadana przy użyciu eksploracyjnej i konfirmacyjnej analizy czynnikowej. SPAW składa się z 18 pozycji tworzących dwie podskale: wsparcie i poczucie przynależności. Korelacje z innymi zmiennymi potwierdzają trafność diagnostyczną SPAW. Zgodność wewnętrzna i stabilność bezwzględna narzędzia okazały się dobre. Podsumowując, SPAW jest rzetelnym i trafnym narzędziem, które może być wykorzystywane do pomiaru poczucia wspólnoty wśród studentów zarówno w celach naukowych, jak i diagnostycznych.

Objectives: The present study examined the relationship between medical student fatigue with psychological variables: emotional intelligence (EI), sense of coherence (SoC) (comprehensibility, manageability, and meaningfulness), quality of life (QoL), stress, and satisfaction with studying medicine. Material and Methods: The sample consisted of 566 medical students from the Medical University of Gdańsk, Poland. The instruments used were the Chalder Fatigue Scale, Schutte Self Report Emotional Intelligence Test, Sense of Coherence Questionnaire, and a questionnaire designed by the authors, comprised questions relating to the quality of life, stress levels, and satisfaction with studying medicine. Results: The results show that fatigue was negatively related to the ability to use emotions effectively in the management of one’s activities (EI), 1 aspect of SoC – a level of comprehensibility, QoL, and satisfaction with studying medicine. Fatigue is positively related to the ability to recognize, understand, and control emotions (EI) and stress connected with studying medicine. Conclusions: The outcomes of the study afford a better understanding of the relationship between selected variables in the field of individual differences in the context of fatigue in the medical student population. It may help medical educators and authorities to have a better understanding of the phenomenon of building resilience and increasing abilities to cope with the negative effects of chronic stress such as fatigue in the population of medical students. Early recognition of specific psychological features in medical students, such as misunderstanding emotions and their perception of environments as unstructured, would make it possible to prepare early support and development programmes.

Ze współczesnych koncepcji rozwoju zawodowego wynika, że kwalifikacje nauczyciela mają charakter procesualny, dlatego dla prawidłowego funkcjonowania w zawodzie kluczowa jest ustawiczna gotowość do modyfikowania i doskonalenia zawodowych kompetencji. Celem prezentowanych badań była analiza zależności między nasileniem cech konstytuujących gotowość do zmiany a satysfakcją z życia studentek i studentów kierunków nauczycielskich. Weryfikacji poddano hipotezę, że młodzież akademicka o wyższym nasileniu cech określających gotowość do zmiany deklaruje większą satysfakcję z życia. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych analiz stwierdzono, że studenci kierunków nauczycielskich uzyskali w większości niższe od optymalnych wyniki w zakresie nasilenia wszystkich cech składających się na gotowość do zmiany, co pozwala przypuszczać, że studenci – przyszli nauczyciele wykazują niski poziom gotowości do zmiany. Stwierdzone statystycznie istotne dodatnie korelacje między nasileniem cech określających gotowość do zmiany a poziomem satysfakcji z życia oznaczają, że wraz ze wzrostem nasilenia pomysłowości, pasji, pewności siebie, optymizmu i śmiałości wzrastał także poziom satysfakcji z życia badanych studentów.
Contemporary professional development concepts show that teachers’ qualifications are processional, so the key to proper professional functioning is constant readiness to modify and improve professional competence. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between the level of readiness to change and life satisfaction among students of education. The study verified was verified that students with higher levels of readiness to change declare more satisfaction with life. The analysis found that the students received less-than-optimal results in terms of the intensity of all the characteristics of readiness to change, suggesting that these future teachers have a low level of readiness to change. The statistically significant positive correlations between the characteristics of readiness to change and the level of life satisfaction indicate that, with the increase in intensity of ingenuity, passion, confidence, optimism and boldness, the students’ level of life satisfaction also increases.

The paper deals with the concept of didactic approach to German Syntax from the point of view of students whose mother tongue is not German language. There exist many Grammars of German as foreign language (cf. Helbig/Buscha 2001). Nevertheless even in higher education of foreign students arise a lot of syntactic problems which need special treatment and specific explanation due to the lack of competence in German. Such items are for instance the pronoun es in different syntactic functions, the use of prepositions, the difference between verbal and nominal valency, the use of definite, indefinite, and zero article, verbs with double object compliments, and trends in everyday use of language.
