    Preparing social workers to work with the elderly is important in the context of an aging society. Literature analysis shows that students rarely choose to study in the field of social work specialty care for the elderly and disabled. This is due not only to the stereotypes attributed to the elderly, but also to the poorly prepared training programs for social workers. This article focuses in particular on the introduction of content into education programs for social workers, which are important for assessing the quality of life of older people.

    This article is a continuation of deliberations on the identity and history of Polish social services. In Particular, it refers to the issues of the origins and beginnings of the formation of the educational system of social workers. Memory of the beginnings is an essential element of thinking about the future in the present. Creating solutions for the future, without respect for the achievements of the past, carries a number of risks of errors, which is the experience of past generations. It also allows the risk of abandonment of effective solutions in the development, which are becoming specific to native, cultural, or psychological factors. History is, in fact, a perfect teacher for contemporary activists involved in the fields of practice and theory.

    This article deals with the problem of academic education of students of Social Work, future social workers, in the field of legal issues. The profession of a social worker requires a broad interdisciplinary knowledge. It consists in providing help to a client in need of support in overcoming life’s hardships, which he cannot overcome alone using his own capabilities, competences and resources.Amon at empowering the client. Problems faced by a social worker when applying the law are connected with a large volume of legal acts, their interpretive unanimity and constant variability (disrupting the sense of stability). The correct application of the law by social workers in the assistance and activation process, requires the appropriate methodical influence in the process of their education, the appropriate selection of issues to be addressed, including problems with which a social worker will have contact in their work. Equally noteworthy is the method of transferring knowledge in the field of legal issues and taking into account the practical aspect of the presented issues. The study analyzed the curricula of selected universities in Poland, in the field of social work, in terms of students’ legal education.

    In this study, the author draws attention to some of the dysfunctions inherent both in education regarding social work, and in the form of postgraduate education and training courses. Dysfunctions are already a social fact; they have emerged as a result of excessive tendencies of the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy to unify and standardize the process of education and as a result of the excessive control over the whole process of training of social workers. The analysis in thispaper shows several major dysfunctions resulting from double standards in education, but also dysfunctions manifested in underdeveloped aims of M.A. programmes, in the misunderstanding of and underperformance in the process of professionalization, and in the excessive tendency to form narrow specializations in the profession of a social worker. The author is aware that many other anomalies that lie in the education and training of socialworkers deserve a separate study and a more thorough analysis.
    W prezentowanym artykule autorka zwraca uwagę na niektóre dysfunkcje nieodłącznie związane z kształceniem w zakresie pracy socjalnej i formą kształcenia podyplomowego oraz kursów szkoleniowych. Dysfunkcje są już faktem społecznym; wyłoniły się jako wynik tendencji ze strony Ministerstwa Pracy i Polityki Społecznej do nadmiernego ujednolicenia i standaryzacji procesu kształcenia oraz jako skutek nadmiernej kontroli nad całym procesem szkolenia pracowników socjalnych. Analiza prowadzona w pracy ukazuje kilka poważnych dysfunkcji wynikających z podwójnych standardów w kształceniu, ale także dysfunkcji wyrażających się w słabo rozwiniętych celach programów studiów magisterskich, niezrozumieniu i słabych wynikach procesu profesjonalizacji oraz tendencji do nadmiernego tworzenia wąskich specjalizacji w zawodzie pracownika socjalnego. Autorka ma świadomość, iż wiele nieprawidłowości w kształceniu i szkoleniu pracowników socjalnych zasługuje na oddzielne badanie i bardziej dogłębną analizę.

    Tekst dotyczy historycznych i współczesnych sposobów i form kształcenia w zakresie poradnictwa (rodzinnego, zawodowego, socjalnego itp.) na kierunku „praca socjalna” w Polsce, analizowanych z punktu widzenia standardów jakości kształcenia akademickiego, w tym również wyznaczanych przez Polską Komisję Akredytacyjną, a także reform systemu pomocy społecznej. Zmiany systemu pomocy powodują, że działania pomocowe wychodzą obecnie poza czynności administracyjne, a kładą większy nacisk na bezpośrednie, specjalistyczne wsparcie rodziny w różnych zakresach jej funkcjonowania: wychowania dzieci, budowania zdrowych relacji małżeńskich, edukacji dzieci, w tym dzieci ze szczególnymi potrzebami, wsparcia osób zależnych i współuzależnionych, z niepełnosprawnościami i będących w kryzysach. Wsparcie to realizowane jest w szczególności poprzez poradnictwo specjalistyczne, będące drobnym elementem kształcenia przyszłych pracowników socjalnych na polskich uczelniach.
    The text concerns historical and contemporary ways and forms of education in the area of counselling (family, vocational, social, etc.) as practiced in the field of “social work” in Poland, analysed from the point of view of academic education quality standards, including those set by the Polish Accreditation Commission, as well as the reforms of the social assistance system. The changes in the system cause that the assistance activities now go beyond administrative activities, and put more emphasis on direct, specialist support for the family in various areas of its functioning: raising children, building healthy marital relations, education of children, including children with special needs, support for dependent persons, disabilities and people in crises. This support is implemented mainly through specialist counselling, which is an element of the education of social workers at Polish universities.

    The article presents the most important conditions that must be met in order to effectively prepare students for the profession of social worker. The author’s reflections are based on the experiences of Polish schools of social work from the last two decades of training and the experience developed on the basis of the education of students of social work at theInstituteofSociology,AdamMickiewiczUniversity. The article pays particular attention to the need to ensure the educational process includes properly prepared teaching staff, transparency in terms of expected learning outcomes, as well as the predictability of the professional roles and mission of the profession.
    W artykule zostały przedstawione najważniejsze warunki, jakie powinny być spełnione w celu efektywnego przygotowania studentów do zawodu pracownika socjalnego. Podstawą refleksji autorki są doświadczenia polskich szkół pracy socjalnej z ostatnich dwóch dekad kształcenia oraz doświadczenia wypracowane na gruncie kształcenia studentów pracy socjalnej w Instytucie Socjologii UAM. W artykule szczególna uwaga została zwrócona na konieczność zagwarantowania w procesie kształcenia odpowiednio przygotowanej kadry naukowo-dydaktycznej, przejrzystości w zakresie spodziewanych efektów kształcenia, a także przewidywalności w zakresie ról zawodowych i misji zawodu.

Ponadto artykuł przedstawia formy edukacji formalnej i pozaformalnej wśród pracowników socjalnych na terenie województwa podkarpackiego.
    Success in the labor market requires to gain of professional qualifications and their updating. This process should last a lifetime and can take the form of formal and non-formal education. It is particularly important in the case of professions whose help other people, i.a. social workers. The presented article is an attempt to show the role of education in the process of professionalization of social workers. The article presents also forms of formal and non-formal education among social workers in the Podkarpackie Province.

    Opis:
    Training of social workers, based on Polish and EU standards of education, aims at their acquiring professional qualifications and competences. It also aims at the development of the profession in order to cope with the social challenges of the modern society. The analysed issue of the European training system of social workers is presented in the context of the legal regulations in selected European countries. In this context, it is worthwhile to learn the basic qualifications and competences of social workers obtained in the course of education in selected European countries. The presented study examines this issue with regard to Polish standards. There is a need on the one hand of the implementation of the UE legislation to Polish legislation, but on the other hand, every state has the right to apply its own solutions to the education of social workers, defining qualification standards of the profession. There is therefore a need for updating and developing educational standards in preparation for practicing the profession of social worker in Poland, using the standards of the EU, EU Member States and European states outside the EU. The article draws attention to these considerations, and tries to present these standards in the context of European and national educational standards.

    There is a lot of discussions around the process of professional education for socio-educational activity answering new challenges of training competencies of social work professionals. Academicdiscourses are related not only with the concept of professionalization, but also are focused on such kind of training, which is adequate to accepted standards and individual as well as social expectations. Undertaken discourse on educational dimensions of  professionalization of social workers is a kind of reflection on possible aspects of exploration of the problem and dilemmas connected with creating expected knowledge, skills and attitudes, which are friendly for effective social work practice.
    Istnieje wiele kontrowersji wokół procesu edukacji zawodowej przygotowującej do działania socjalno-wychowawczego i odpowiadającego nowym wyzwaniom kształcenia kompetencji profesjonalnych pracowników socjalnych. Akademickie dyskusje dotyczą nie tylko istoty profesjonalizacji, ale i takiego przygotowania zawodowego pracowników socjalnych, które odpowiadałoby przyjętym standardom oraz oczekiwaniom indywidualnym i społecznym. Podjęty dyskurs nad edukacyjnymi wymiarami profesjonalizacji pracowników socjalnych jest próbą refleksji nad możliwymi obszarami eksploracji tego problemu oraz dylematami związanymi z kształtowaniem oczekiwanej wiedzy, umiejętności oraz postaw, które sprzyjałyby efektywnym działaniom zawodowym.

    The purpose of the article was to justify the inclusion of issues in the field of intercultural education for education of social service employees. Representatives of aid professions contribute to the improvement of social functioning of individuals and groups through a wide range of actions aimed at solving their problems. Migrants are among the new groups that need help in our country. This is a broad category including people with migration experience and specificity of working with a migrant is a significant challenge of modern times. In addition to system solutions, working with a person from another country, culture, being a different religion or speaking in another language, requires additional competences. Intercultural education and its current theoretical and practical achievements enable preparation for a proper understanding of the problem’s context and effective help.
    Celem opracowania było uzasadnienie włączenia problematyki z zakresu edukacji międzykulturowej do procesu kształcenia pracowników służb społecznych. Przedstawiciele zawodów pomocowych przyczyniają się do poprawy funkcjonowania społecznego jednostek i grup poprzez szeroki wachlarz działań służących rozwiązywaniu ich problemów. Do nowych grup wymagających interwencji pomocowych w naszym kraju należą migranci. Jest to szeroka kategoria obejmująca osoby z doświadczeniem migracyjnym, a specyfika pracy z migrantem jest istotnym wyzwaniem współczesności. Oprócz rozwiązań systemowych praca z osobą pochodzącą z innego kraju, kultury, będącą innego wyznania czy mówiącą w innym języku wymaga posiadania dodatkowych kompetencji. Edukacja międzykulturowa oraz jej dotychczasowy dorobek teoretyczny i praktyczny umożliwiają przygotowanie do właściwego zrozumienia kontekstu problemu i niesienia skutecznej pomocy.

    Kształcenie pracowników socjalnych, oparte na krajowych i unijnych standardach edukacyjnych, ma na celu zdobycie przez nich kwalifikacji i kompetencji zawodowych oraz taki rozwój tej profesji, aby sprostała ona społecznym wyzwaniom współczesnego społeczeństwa. Analizowane zagadnienie europejskiego systemu kształcenia pracowników socjalnych jest przedstawione w kontekście regulacji prawnych w wybranych państwach europejskich. W tym kontekście wydaje się wartościowe poznanie podstawowych kwalifikacji i kompetencji pracowników socjalnych uzyskanych w ramach kształcenia w wybranych państwach europejskich. Zaprezentowane studium analizuje tę problematykę z uwzględnieniem polskich standardów. Istnieje potrzeba z jednej strony implementacji ustawodawstwa unijnego do polskiego prawodawstwa, a z drugiej każde państwo ma prawo do stosowania właściwych dla swojego systemu kształcenia pracowników socjalnych własnych rozwiązań, określając standardy kwalifikacji tej grupy zawodowej. Istnieje więc potrzeba aktualizacji i rozwoju standardów kształcenia w zakresie przygotowania do zawodu pracownika socjalnego w Polsce korzystając ze standardów unijnych, państw członkowskich UE oraz państw europejskich nienależących do UE. Prezentowany artykuł zwraca uwagę na te uwarunkowania i stara się przedstawić powyższe standardy w kontekście europejskich i krajowych standardów edukacyjnych.

    Opis:
    Artykuł podejmuje problematykę działań komunikacyjnych, inicjo- wanych w instytucjach pomocy i integracji społecznej w kontekście kształcenia kompetencji komunikacyjnych i medialnych pracowników socjalnych. Zaprezentowane zostały aktualne opinie pracowników na temat działań komunikacyjnych w publicznych instytucjach pomocowych na podstawie ogólnopolskiego badania; ich wyniki potwierdzają tezę o deficycie systematycznych i konstruktywnych działań PR oraz niskich ocenach ich efektywności. W tym kontekście zarysowana została problematyka zmian w systemie kształcenia pracowników socjalnych. Wskazano na istotną rolę modułów i kursów związanych z komunikacją społeczną, kształtowa- niem kompetencji komunikacyjnych i medialnych, a także na istotne i dalekosiężne konsekwencje ich deficytu, który może przekładać się na niską ocenę efektywności działań́ pomocowych.
    The paper presents the problem of communication actions taken in assistance and social integration institutions in the context of shaping communication and media competencies of social workers. Employees’ current estimations about communication actions in public assistance institutions, on the grounds of Polish nationwide research were presented. Findings of the study confirm thesis about deficit of systematic and constructive actions of PR and low estimation of their effectiveness. In this context, problematic aspects of changes in social workers’ education system were presented. Significant role of modules and courses related with social communication, shaping communication and media competences and also substantial, far-reaching consequences of their deficit, which may translate into low estimate of effectiveness of assistance activities, were pointed out.
