Współczesna polska filozofka Jolanta Brach-Czaina opisuje nieobecne dotąd w filozofii kobiece doświadczenia. Wspólna im wszystkim jest potrzeba mówienia własnym głosem o własnych doświadczeniach i budowania autonomicznego podmiotu kobiecego.
The article is an attempt to present the peculiar character of feminist philosophy, using as examples three women thinkers living in different times and places. The phenomenologist and Catholic Edith Stein writes about the similar natures of men and women, their equality, and the vocation of women to realize their talents and abilities. The French philosopher and psychoanalyst Luce Irigaray deconstructs philosophy and culture created from the masculine point of view and looks for ways of expressing women’s desires and imaginations. The contemporary Polish philosopher Jolanta Brach-Czaina describes feminine experiences that have until now been absent in philosophy. What is common to them all is the need to speak with their own voice about their own experiences and to construct an autonomous feminine personality.

Obejmuje następujące zagadnienia: absolutny charakter prawdy, uniwersalność filozofii, elementy antropologii personalistycznej, odpowiedź na Nietzscheańską „śmierć Boga”, odpowiedź na „cywilizację śmierci” oraz Krzyż jako nadzieja. Główne wnioski są zreasumowane w siedmiopunktowej konkluzji.
The article is a synthetic approach to the vision of Europe from the perspective of phenomenology treated as philosophia perennis proposed by Edith Stein / St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross. It covers the following issues: the absolute character of truth, the universality of philosophy, elements of personalist anthropology, the answer to the Nietzschean “death of God,” the answer to the “civilization of death” and the Cross as Hope. At the end of this study there is a seven-point conclusion.

This article has attempted to demonstrate the practical verification of the veritative argument in the life of Edith Stein and to indicate the possibility of taking advantage of her conclusions in the construction of the argument, especially in terms of strengthening its motivational merit. That argument serves to justify the credibility of the divine and Christian revelation by demonstrating that the source of all truth is God, who is also the ultimate truth that explains the meaning of human life and all that exists. Edith Stein, while looking for the truth and meaning of life, found God, the highest Truth. Through the encounter with God she discovered her destiny, a life spent in union with Him in eternity. Her path to the truth and God bears the marks of the process of reaching the ultimate truth, the God of revelation, and this process is included in the structure of the veritative argument. In this way, the experience of Edith Stein can be considered as a practical verifi cation of that argument. In addition, in her philosophical and theological inquiry, one can fi nd the mystery of God, personal truth, essential for the recognition of God as the ultimate truth, which is vital in understanding veritative argument. The truth of God in her approach has three dimensions: personal, relational, and explanatory. Such perceived truth serves for better understanding of the meaning of human life, especially in religious dimension, which is also crucial in veritative argument. Edith Stein showed in her anthropology that man nhas an innate predisposition to seek the truth, and her knowledge had a positive eff ect on the development of man and his life, which is signifi cant in investigating the sources of the argument. Stages in the process of searching the truth, distinguished by Edith Stein, (the attitude of intellectual openness to reality, good will in the quest to uncover the truth, determination and consistency in seeking, the attitude of „empathy”, humility opening up to the transcendent) converge with internal symptoms: dependency on eff ectiveness of the argument, or on its motivational value, enriching and expanding the argument. Similarly, external conditions which had a positive impact on the process (living environment and education, Husserl’s phenomenological method, testimony Christians’ life in faith) correspond to and reinforce the subject (objective) circumstances of the eff ectiveness of the argument.
W artykule podjęta została próba wykazania praktycznej weryfikacji argumentu werytatywnego w życiu Edyty Stein oraz wskazania na możliwość zastosowania jej przemyśleń w konstruowaniu tegoż argumentu, zwłaszcza w aspekcie wzmocnienia jego waloru motywacyjnego. Argument werytatywny służy uzasadnianiu wiarygodności Objawienia Bożego i chrześcijańskiego poprzez wykazywanie, że źródłem wszelkiej prawdy jest Bóg, który jest też ostateczną Prawdą wyjaśniającą sens życia człowieka i wszystkiego co istnieje. Edyta Stein szukając w swym życiu prawdy i sensu życia odnalazła Boga, najwyższą Prawdę. Przez spotkanie z Bogiem odkryła swe przeznaczenie, życie w zjednoczeniu z Nim w wieczności. Jej droga do prawdy i Boga nosi znamiona procesu dochodzenia do ostatecznej Prawdy, Boga Objawienia, a proces ten zawiera się w strukturze argumentu werytatywnego. W ten sposób doświadczenie Edyty Stein może być potraktowane jako praktyczne zweryfikowanie tegoż argumentu. Dodatkowo w jej myśli filozoficzno-teologicznej można odnaleźć dociekania tajemnicy Boga, osobowej Prawdy, istotne dla ujęcia Boga, jako ostatecznej Prawdy, a właśnie argument zmierza do wykazywania, że prawda zawiera się w Bogu Objawienia. Prawda w Bogu w jej ujęciu ma wymiar: osobowy, relacyjny i wyjaśniający. Tak postrzegana prawda służy pełniejszemu odkryciu sensu życia człowieka, przede wszystkim w wymiarze religijnym, co również przynależy do istoty argumentu. Edyta Stein wykazuje w swej antropologii, że człowiek ma wrodzone predyspozycje do poszukiwania prawdy, a jej poznanie wpływa pozytywnie na rozwój człowieka i jego życie. Te stwierdzenia są znaczące dla problematyki źródeł argumentu. Wyróżnione w myśli Edyty Stein uwarunkowania procesu dochodzenia do Prawdy i Boga (postawa otwartości intelektualnej względem zastanej rzeczywistości, dobra wola w dążeniu do odkrycia prawdy, determinacja i konsekwencja poszukującego, postawa „wczucia”, pokora otwierająca na rzeczywistość transcendentną) zbiegają się z wewnętrznymi, podmiotowymi uzależnieniami skuteczności czy waloru motywacyjnego argumentu i w jakimś stopniu je ubogacają oraz poszerzają. Podobnie uwarunkowania zewnętrzne, które wpłynęły pozytywnie na ten proces (środowisko życia i wychowanie, metoda fenomenologiczna Husserla, świadectwo życia wiarą spotykanych chrześcijan) korespondują i wzmacniają przedmiotowe (obiektywne) okoliczności skuteczności argumentu.

In the spiritual texts contained in two volumes of Geistliche Texte I and II (ESGA, Vol. 19 and 20), St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein) presents the personal experience of faith in God and God, which calls man to respond to the call to live with Him in the communion of persons. Stein tries to explain the essence of deep Christianity, which she considers not only as a cultural-traditional religion, but as a daily effort to work out the time to realize the principle of unum esse cum Deo, in accordance with the chosen way of life vocation and its implementation. The answer to God’s call is imperative, it flows from the inside of man and is not imposed on him externally.

This article proposes the thesis that Edith Stein’s late anthropology has a theocentric orientation. The threefold structure of a human being consisting of a body, soul and spirit is examined in order to validate the thesis. First of all, the finitude of a human being points out to the eternal being and – consequently – human beings are not conceivable by themselves, without the context of God. Moreover, the hylomorphic union of the body and soul adopted from Aristotelian and Thomistic philosophy is enriched in Stein’s anthropology by the concept of spirit. This results in a threefold structure and is reason enough to suggest man’s iconic similarity to the Trinity. Furthermore, Stein takes over St. Teresa of Avila’s concept of an internal center of the soul, which can be a meeting point between a person and God. The analysis of the soul’s center supports the main thesis.

The article attempts to answer questions concerning the feminine genius, such as the following: What is spiritual motherhood? What is spiritual companionship? How can women express the qualities of companionship and motherhood in and out of their homes? What kind of obstacles do women need to root out of their hearts to build loving relationships? And, How does emotional formation prepare women for their vocation? The answers are sought from Edith Stein’s perspective, i.e. by drawing from the usage of phenomenology and Thomism adopted in her book, Essays on Women.

Artykuł odsłania tajemnicę Eucharystii, jaką zawierają pisma Edyty Stein. Dzieła świętej stanowiły bogaty materiał badawczy, ponieważ charakteryzują się głębią teologicznych, filozoficznych i psychologicznych rozważań. Artykuł wskazuje na źródła, na których Edyta Stein opierała się przy opracowywaniu zagadnienia Eucharystii. Następnie ukazuje, jak w swoich pismach ujmowała istotę mszy świętej. Z przeprowadzonej analizy wyłania się szczególnie ofiarniczy charakter sakramentu ołtarza. W ostatniej części artykuł przedstawia głębokie i jasno sformułowane myśli świętej dotyczące skutków Eucharystii, będące wynikiem jej osobistego doświadczenia.
The article looks at the way Edith Stein presents the mystery of the Eucharist in her works. Because ofthe deepness of hertheological, philosophical, and psychological thought, her writings proved to be a rich trove of material for research. The paper shows the original sources that Edith Stein used while working to understand the Eucharist.Nextit presentsthe way thatthe Saint understood the essence ofthe Mass. From the analysis emerges a particularily sacrificial character ofthe Sacrament ofthe Altar. In the last part, the article shows Edith Stein’s deep and clearly stated views on the effects of the Eucharist, that are based on her own personal experience.

The purpose of the article was to remind Edith Stein and her activity on the field of the education and empowerment of women. As a young girl and student, she recognized herself as a suffragette, and her attitude and actions – pedagogical, social and political – fit her into the first wave of feminism. On the other hand, her further educational, scientific and journalistic activities let recognize Stein as a precursor of later academic feminism.
Celem artykułu jest przypomnienie postaci Edith Stein i jej działalności na polu edukacji i uzyskaniu większych praw przez kobiety, co miało wzmocnić ich pozycję. Jako młoda dziewczyna i studentka uważała się za sufrażystkę, a jej postawa i działania – pedagogiczne, społeczne i polityczne – wpasowały ją w pierwszą falę feminizmu. Z drugiej strony, jej dalsze działania edukacyjne, naukowe i dziennikarskie pozwalają uznać Stein za prekursora późniejszego feminizmu akademickiego.

Should we approach the lived experience and/or understand the other with the sense of things? If this is the case, how are we to treat the human experience par excellence? Paradoxically, Edith Stein gives a fresh meaning to the Husserlian term “leiblicheSelbstgegebenheit.” In contrast to Max Scheler’s account, she develops the “persönliche Note” criterion of authenticity. And against Maetin Heidegger’s existential philosophy, a concern for human existence itself resonates. Based on these three dimensions, this article discusses the idea of “the lived experience” according to Edith Stein, that is, the human experience contemplated by the humanities.

The author of the article studies the spirituality of Edith Stein. He presents Edith Stein’s contribution to the methodology of spiritual theology, her anthropological and theological vision, her evolution of the religious experience, the life of prayer and call to mysticism. Edith Stein carried out research which today would be regarded as being interdisciplinary. Her reflections have a huge influence on the methodology of the theology of spirituality. The spirituality of the Cross which Stein writes about in compliance with the classic masters, nowadays may be an adjustment to the incarnational spirituality, in her overly optimistic view on the usage of creatures and taking for granted the spiritual value of suffering.

The article is an attempt to analyze the manifestations of empathy in Edith Stein's scientific work and life, and it draws attention to the psychological role of empathy in the development of personality. It is worth emphasizing the importance of both the very figure of Husserl's outstanding student and the ecumenical significance of her work. The concept of "empathy" appeared in the first decades of the 20th century and the basis for the analysis of this phenomenon was philosophical (phenomenological) deliberations on the problem of cognition of other people's psychic states. One of the first psychologists to draw on the achievements of phenomenologists and apply the term Die Einfühlung was Theodor Lipps. In the Anglo-Saxon literature this term was translated as "empathy" or "sharing feelings with...". In psychotherapy today, important findings in the field of empathy were made by a Rogers and Batson, in Poland Rembowski. The article presents fragments of Edith Stein's selected writings, letters and statements, which bear testimony to her interest in the problem of empathy both in her scientific work and in her personal life. The factual material presented and its analysis is additionally based on the Personality and Axiological Model by Mróz, which focuses on the dimensions of competence, social relations and autonomy. Stein's biographical facts and statements on empathy are presented with emphasis on the relations and dependencies between the scholar's psychobiography and the dimensions of the MOA and references to the issues of ecumenism.
Artykuł stanowi próbę analizy przejawów empatii w twórczości naukowej i życiu Edyty Stein oraz zwraca uwagę na psychologiczną rolę empatii w rozwoju osobowości. Warto podkreślić znaczenie zarówno samej postaci tej wybitnej uczennicy Husserla jak i wymowę ekumeniczną jej twórczości. Pojęcie „empatia” pojawiło się w pierwszych dekadach XX wieku, a podstawą analizy tego zjawiska były filozoficzne (fenomenologiczne) rozważania dotyczące zagadnień poznawania cudzych stanów psychicznych. Jednym z pierwszych psychologów, który czerpał z osiągnięć fenomenologów i użył terminu Die Einfühlung, był Theodor Lipps. W literaturze anglosaskiej pojęcie to tłumaczono właśnie jako „empatia” bądź „odczuwanie razem z…” Współcześnie w psychoterapii ważnych ustaleń w obszarze empatii dokonali: Rogers i Batson a w Polsce Rembowski. W artykule prezentowane są fragmenty wybranych pism, listów i wypowiedzi Edyty Stein będące świadectwem przejawianego przez nią zainteresowania zagadnieniem empatii zarówno w twórczości naukowej, jak i w życiu osobistym. Przedstawiony materiał faktograficzny oraz jego analiza opierają się dodatkowo na  Modelu Osobowościowo-Aksjologicznym MOA Mróz, koncentrującym się na wymiarach kompetencji, relacji społecznych i autonomii. Fakty biograficzne i wypowiedzi Stein dotyczące empatii przedstawiono z podkreśleniem związków i zależności występujących między psychobiografią uczonej a wymiarami MOA i odniesieniami do zagadnień ekumenizmu.

Edyta Stein to osoba, która urodziła się w żydowskiej, tradycyjnie religijnej, rodzinie. W młodości zaprzestała modlitwy, zagubiła wiarę w Boga. Była ona jednak niezwykle uczciwą w poszukiwaniu prawdy, która stała się jej życiową pasją. Artykuł ukazuje najpierw różne definicje prawdy. Następnie podejmuje prezentację sposobów fenomenologicznego odkrywania prawdy na temat człowieka, który był charakterystycznym dla Edyty Stein. Wreszcie pokazuje jej dojście do odkrycia Boga Miłości, który pociągnął ją do mistycznego zjednoczenia w duchowości Karmelu. Edyta Stein zginęła w obozie koncentracyjnym w Auschwitz doświadczając tajemnicy Krzyża Chrystusowego i ofiarowując się za swój naród.
Edith Stein is a person who was born in the Jewish traditionally religious family. In her youth she lost her faith in God. However in her life she was seeking the truth. In this search she was very honest. The article first shows different definitions of truth. Then he takes the presentation of Edith Stein's, the ways of phenomenological discovery of the truth about a human person. Finally, it shows her coming to the discovery of the God of Love, who has drawn her to mystical union in the spirituality of Carmel. Edith Stein died in the concentration camp in Auschwitz, experiencing the mystery of the Cross of Christ and sacrificing herself for her people.
Edith Stein wurde in einer jüdisch-traditionell-religiösen Familie geboren. Schon in der Jugendzeit hat sie aufgehört zu beten und den Glauben an Gott verloren. Sie hat jedoch niemals aufgehört, außerordentlich ehrlich nach Gott zu suchen. Diese Suche nach Gott wurde zu Passion ihres Lebens. Im Artikel werden zuerst verschiedene Definitionen der Wahrheit dargestellt. Des Weiteren wurden verschiedene Arten des phänomenologischen Weges der Erkenntnis der Wahrheit über den Menschen, so charakteristisch für Edith Stein, besprochen. Letztendlich wurde ihre Entdeckung der Liebe Gottes analysiert, die sie zur mystischen Vereinigung mit Gott in der karmelitischen Spiritualität geführt hat. Edith Stein wurde im Konzentrationslager Auschwitz ermordet, wodurch sie das Geheimnis des Kreuzes Christi am eigenen Leibe erfahren und für ihr Volk aufgeopfert hatte.

The origins of the term ‘empathy’ go back to the beginning of the 20th century, when the foundation of analyses of the phenomenon were philosophical (phenomenological) deliberations on the issue of getting to know mental states of other people. The first psychologist to draw on achievements of phenomenologists and to use the term Die Einfühlung was Theodor Lipps (Lipps 1897). In the Anglo-Saxon literature the term was translated as ‘empathy’, sharing another person’s emotions. In our times, in pedagogy and psychotherapy, significant findings on empathy were made by Carl Rogers (1975), a personality psychologist. The article presents fragments of selected Edith Stein’s letters and statements that prove her interest in the issue of empathy both in her academic as well as personal life.

Artykuł pokazuje powiązania i podobieństwa między myślą Edyty Stein i świętego Tomasza z Akwinu. Główny problem sformułowany został w sposób następujący: czy możemy mówić o intelektualnej drodze Edyty Stein do świętego Tomasza z Akwinu? Analizy pokazały, że Edyta Stein była osobą poszukującą prawdy w całym swoim życiu  a na tej drodze ku prawdzie istotne miejsce zajmuje święty Tomasz. Droga ta posiada trzy główne fazy: fenomenologiczną, chrześcijańską i mistyczną. Do spotkania ze świętym Tomaszem dochodzi w czasie „fazy chrześcijańskiej”. Żydowską myślicielka tłumaczyła dzieła Akwinaty, porównywał jego system z rozważaniami Husserla i sama twórczo komentowała analizy Doktora Anielskiego. Spotkanie z fenomenologią i tomizmem doprowadziło Edytę Stein do decyzji wstąpienia do klasztoru karmelitańskiego i analiz doświadczenia mistycznego.
The article shows the connection and similarities between Edith Stein and Saint Thomas Aquinas. The main issue of the considerations is: if we can talk about an intellectual way from Edith Stein to Saint Thomas Aquinas? The analysis have shown that Edith Stein was a person who was looking for the Truth in all her life. On this journey to the Truth we can distinguish 3 basic stages: phenomenological, christian and mystical. Saint Thomas plays fundamental role in the second stage. This Jewish thinker translated the work of Aquinas and conformed his way of thinking with Husserl’s phenomenology. The meeting with phenomenology and Thomism resulted in her decision of life in Carmelite order and analysis of mysticism.

Poszukując inspiracji do budowania edukacyjnej kultury dialogu, zwracamy się ku Edycie Stein. Jej antropologia filozoficzna i teologiczna jest podstawą dzieła wychowania. Wypracowana przez nią koncepcja „wczucia” otwiera szerokie możliwości konstruowania prawdziwych relacji międzyludzkich opartych na godności człowieka, dla którego źródłem dialogu jest Bóg. Święta Teresa Benedykta od Krzyża wskazuje światło na drodze wychowania przez refleksję naukową oraz osobiste świadectwo życia.
Searching for the inspiration to create an educational dialogue culture we turn to Edith Stein. Her philosophical and theological anthropology is the base for educational work. Her concept of empathy, “putting ourselves in the situation of others” opens up a wide range of possibilities for building true interpersonal relations based on the dignity of human for whom God is the source of dialogue. St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross shows the light on the educational path that is scientific reflection and personal testimony of life.
