    Opis:
    Since a radical change in economic policy and business practice is necessary, the approach and research methodology in ES should also change, which means the need to change the paradigm of these sciences. It is worth remembering that the task of ES is to model economic and business processes, because ES have both a cognitive-explanatory (positive) and directive-suggestive (normative) component. The latter component are patterns and recommendations related to the economic and business reality, and they should be different from those known from the past and to a large extent still practiced in the present.

    Autorzy artykułu stawiają tezę o potrzebie modyfikacji sposobu uprawiania nauk ekonomicznych (NE) w aspektach ontologicznym, epistemologicznym i metodologicznym. Wynika ona z oddziaływania splotu czynników, jakie ujawniły się jeszcze w okresie przedpandemicznym, dla których COVID-19 może być okolicznością dopełniającą, wzmacniającą, a nawet wręcz bezpośrednio przesądzającą o zmianie. Struktura artykułu została podporządkowana przyjętemu celowi, którym jest autorskie odniesienie się do postawionej tezy. Jako egzemplifikację obszarów wymagających zmiany wybrano osiem zagadnień, w odniesieniu do których zgłoszono zestaw postulatów konstytuujących pożądane modyfikacje w prowadzeniu badań w NE. Główną metodą wykorzystaną w opracowaniu jest metoda krytycznej analizy literatury.
    The authors of the article put forward a thesis about the need to modify or revise the way in which economic sciences are practiced in ontological, epistemological and methodological terms. This results from the impact of a series of factors that appeared in the pre-pandemic period and for which COVID-19 may be a complementary, reinforcing or even directly determining circumstance. The structure of this article was subordinated to the adopted goal. Eight areas were selected for which a set of proposals was made for modifications in economic research. The main method used in the study is critical analysis of the literature.

    Aim: This article was written out of a felt need to reflect on the relationship between economic theories and models on the one hand and the empirical world as we experience it on the other. The question is in particular whether it is possible for economic models and theories to say anything definitive about the world we live in.   Design/Research methods: The article relies on professional publications, both within the field of economics and outside of it.   Conclusions/findings: There is much reason for humility, economic models and theories have hardly anything definitive to say about the empirical world, and there is a need for a more varied menu of theories and models and for a listening ear for the needs and fears of the population at large. The best we can do is discussing competing and conflicting views in a polite way. However, this requires a Sprachethik that looks more and more like an endangered species.   Originality/value of the article: Recent developments concerning the reach of economic models and theories are related to earlier discussions and a way forward is sketched

    Nauka o finansach jest wśród nauk ekonomicznych dyscypliną szczególną: z pewnego punktu widzenia najbardziej interesującą, najważniejszą, a zarazem najtrudniejszą. Chociaż do roli „królowej nauk” nieprzypadkowo aspirują filozofia, matematyka czy fizyka, to właśnie ekonomia, nie tylko zdaniem ekonomistów, jest „królową” wśród nauk społecznych, a nauka o finansach uważana jest, nie tylko przez finansistów, za „królową” wśród nauk ekonomicznych. Zaprezentowane studium jest próbą ukazania metodologicznego statusu nauki o finansach, jej specyfiki, paradygmatów i miejsca w systemie współczesnych nauk ekonomicznych. Nauka o finansach jest dyscypliną złożoną, z licznymi klasycznymi i nowymi subdyscyplinami. Ma silne związki z licznymi dyscyplinami ekonomicznymi i pozaekonomicznymi. Nauka o finansach, chociaż rozwijana jest od ponad 100 lat, może być z pewnej perspektywy traktowana jako nauka in statu nascendi.
    The contemporary sciences of finances – the methodological status, structure, environment, paradigms The science of finances is a particular one among economic sciences: from a certain perspective the most interesting, the most important and at the same time, the most difficult. Though it is not without accident that philosophy, mathematics, physics also aspire to the role of “queen of sciences”, it is just economics that is considered “queen” among social sciences, and that not only by economists; the science of finances, on the other hand, is considered “queen” among economic sciences not only by financial experts. The present study attempts to show the methodological status of the science of finances, the differentia specifica of the discipline, the paradigms, and present its position in the system of contemporary economic sciences. The science of finances is a highly complex discipline, with many classical and new subdisciplines. It has strong relations with numerous economic and non-economic disciplines. The science of finances, although boasting an over hundred-year – old existence, from another point of view can be considered as an in statu nascendi science.
