    The objective of this paper is to review the criteria and indicators currently used for the assessment of forest management and to compare them with the criteria and indicators recommended in the economic literature. There are discrepancies between the types of indicators proposed in the economic literature and those applied in practice, which often result from the adoption of different concepts of sustainability and/or definitions of the welfare. It appears advisable to supplement the set of natural criteria and indicators with economic ones, so that the ability to self−finance the forest economy should not be forfeited.

    Opis:
    Globalisation – characterised by dynamic economic growth, increasing exploitation of the natural environment, and deepening social inequalities – brings negative consequences and is strongly perceptible also in local communities. A new approach to development policy based on the idea of sustainable development must be incorporated into local governments’ strategies, programmes, and actions. We adopted exploratory approach to determine the level and identify the spatial patterns of sustainable development of Polish poviats. The aggregated (synthetic) indicators of economic, social, and environmental development were developed to analyse the spatial patterns of the poviats’ development trends. Our research shows that in Poland there are overwhelmingly more poviats characterised by lower development than those better developed in all three analysed categories. Hierarchical analysis using the Ward’s method revealed that Polish poviats can be divided into three relatively homogeneous clusters in terms of development levels. The largest group consists of poviats characterised by the relatively lowest level of sustainability in economic and social areas, and the highest – by environmental development. Analyses using the Moran method made it possible to determine the so-called spatial regimes of clusters. The captured spatial relationships indicate that selected poviats have a significant impact on the level of development in the neighbouring poviats.

    Opis:
    Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie wskaźnika rzeczywistego rozwoju GPI (Genuine Progress Indicator) jako narzędzia pomiaru dobrobytu, uwzględniającego zasady zrównoważonego rozwoju. GPI należy do grupy syntetycznych wskaźników trwałego i zrównoważonego rozwoju wyrażonych w jednostkach monetarnych. Zastosowanie miary pieniężnej pozwala na odniesienie go do rachunków narodowych i PKB. W artykule omówiono koncepcję wskaźnika i jego strukturę, zgodnie z metodologią opracowaną w latach 2013—2016 (GPI 2.0). Pokazano, w jaki sposób oblicza się jego komponenty w badaniach amerykańskich. Opis ten uzupełniono uwagami dotyczącymi możliwości obliczania i wykorzystywania GPI 2.0 w warunkach polskich.
    The aim of the article is to present the Genuine Progress Indicator (GPI) as tool for measuring welfare concerning of the principles of sustainable development. GPI belongs to the group of synthetic indicators expressed in monetary units. The application of monetary measure allows to link national accounts with GPI. The article describes the indicator’s concept and its structure according to the framework developed in the years 2013—2016 GPI 2.0. It was presented how its components are computed in American research. This description of GPI was supplemented by remarks on potential feasibility of computing and using GPI 2.0 under Polish conditions.

    W pracy pokazano stan polskiego rynku mieszkaniowego w kontekście współczesnej i historycznej wiedzy o zrównoważeniu. Dane statystyczne wskazują, iż propagowany model wzrostu gospodarczego, w tym również sektora budowlanego nie uwzględnia podstawowych zasad zrównoważonego rozwoju. Proponuje się, aby oprócz sprostowania ewidentnych niezgodności w informacjach przekazywanych przez reprezentantów sektora budowlanego stosować w szacowaniu wpływu inwestycji na środowisko naturalne wskaźnik energii wbudowanej w pieniądz.
    The paper shows the state of the Polish housing market in the context of contemporary and historical knowledge about sustainability. Statistical data shows that the promoted economic growth model does not take into account the basic principles of sustainable development. In addition to the correction of obvious inconsistencies in the information provided by the representatives of the housing market, there are also suggestions that we should use the energy embodied in the economic value indicator to estimate the impact of the investment on the environment.
