Purpose: This article deals with the problem of forming Pareto non-optimal norms of mutual behavior of investors and government in the process of decision-making related to financing designed to reduce risks in investment activity. Methodology: Considering the interdependent type (nature) of interactions between related parties, game theory tools were used to model such interactions. Much attention was directed to search for parameters of interaction leading to certain Nash equilibriums in pure strategies. The formal results obtained with the model were verified by statistical analysis. Findings: Analysis showed that the rational behavior of related parties can lead to unexpected results. Powerful investors will aim to work in socially-oriented economies, whereas primarily small investors will operate in most liberal economies with aminimum tax burden but with ahigher level of risk. As for governments’ behaviors, the images are the same: small economies tend to liberalize their tax systems and to secure investment faster than powerful ones. Empirical verification based on statistical data of groups of countries generally confirmed the conclusions. These formal and logical conclusions were from statistical analysis of 124 countries divided into 5 groups: OECD countries, post-socialist countries, Latin American countries, APAC countries and ACP countries. Provided that the more powerful ones are covered economies, there was stronger interdependence between the size of economies and tax burden and also between total investment and tax burden, where this dependence is positive. Originality: The results obtained used Nash equilibriums in pure strategies as models of behavioral norms to define behaviors of related parties and also to explain assumptions concerning the behaviors of investors and government.

Opis:
The article contains preliminary report of field study conducted in February 2006 in Las Huastecas Region in Mexico by members of the Department of Regional Studies on Latin America at the Faculty of Geography and Regional Studies of Warsaw University. The aim of the research was to determine changes in socio-economic patterns of Las Huastecas rural areas, as well as to grasp the way local inhabitants perceived them. Open and semi-structured interviews were held with local authorities and inhabitants, in many cases with the same persons that were interviewed during the previous research trip in 2001. Conclusions deal with such aspects of Las Huastecas reality, as further improvement in social and technical infrastructure, intensification of diversification of revenues including short and medium temporal migration to big cities in northern parts of Mexico as well as seasonal migration of rural labor to agribusiness sector. Some limited new initiatives related to smali scalę tourism, preservation of cultural heritage and aąuaculture were also observed. The local inhabitants perceived their actual situation as more difficult than 5 years ago, but we have impression that many of social actors have been more active during this period.

The aim of this article is show the concept of using of the Discrete Markov Chains to predict economic phenomena. This subject is important for two reasons. The first of them are models based on Markov chains use the statistical informations obtained during the investigation processes. Another important reason is the fact that this way of modeling is highly flexible and can be used to simulation of economic phenomenas. In this paper authors describe the idea of modeling and present the example of simply model of patient population of primary health care and show preliminary simulation results.

Artykuł wskazuje rolę, jaką odgrywają elementy gry (zwłaszcza konkurencyjności, skrajnej wytrzymałości) w kulturze (J. Huizinga, R. Caillois, E. Fink) a szczególnie w sferze gospodarki.
This article reflects the role of play elements (and especially competitive, agonal principle) in culture (J. Huizinga, R. Caillois, E. Fink), particularly in the sphere of economy. Basic characteristics of the play element as a culture-building phenomenon are summarized here. The author points at play elements, as they are explicitly reflected by the theory of economics, focusing on the classical theory of Adam Smith, neoclassical concept of Homo Oeconomicus, theory of games and economic behavior, institutional theories, as well as the public-choice theory.

In the paper I show the results of my research on voting behavior in Polish parliamentary elections. My studies focus on the elections to the Sejm in 2007 and 2011. Employing regression models I try to verify the following hypotheses: H1: An increase in voting turnout, that is an important indicator of positive social capital, is positively correlated with the Civic Platform election result, while increasing the negative social capital determinants results in the decline in the Civic Platform support. H2: An increase in voting turnout is beneficial for the Civic Platform, while having negative impact on the political support given to the Law and Justice and the Polish People’s Party. H3: The higher the percentage of women in a county (powiat), the greater the average support for the Civic Platform. H4: When it comes to the determinants of political support for the selected parties, it turns out that, economic variables are statistically insignificant. To carry out my studies I use statistical data available from Central Statistical Office of Poland and from National Electoral Commission.

Opis:
The paper presents an interpretation of G.S. Becker’s “economic approach to human behavior” with regard to relations of this standpoint in economic methodology with psychology. The aim of the paper is to properly identify the role that psychology plays both in works of Becker himself, and in the “economic approach”. Ties of psychology with the “economic approach” are subject to the analysis in the following aspects: Becker’s declarations, practice of his work, as well as in the context of methodological sources of inspiration of the “economic approach”, with the potential of its enhancement towards a more consistent use of findings of psychology. Beckerian methodology is presented in such a way, so as to highlight its historic and methodological roots and inspirations. It is considered as an uncompromised application of situational explanation, Popperian rationality principle, Robbins’ analytical definition of economic science, as well as Freidman’s view about the irrelevance of “realism” of economic model assumptions. The paper indicates that despite inspiration with Bentham’s psychology, the “economic approach to human behavior” fits into anti-psychologist paradigm in economic methodology. In accordance with methodological standpoints of Popper, Robbins and Friedman, Becker replaces “realistic” descriptions of human psyche with axiomatic, “unrealistic” assumptions of maximization and rationality. However, psychological knowledge is very relevant for Becker’s theory because it constitutes an important condition for accurate construction of individual utility functions. Therefore, by the utilization of a question from moral psychology, the paper presents the possibility of the ”economic approach” more deeply rooted in Bentham’s ideas, with potential benefits for explaining human behavior. As indicated by D.C. North, neoclassical economics poses a problem: Why do people comply with social institutions and keep promises under conditions, in which maximizing individual utility would suggest otherwise? A solution to this problem might be assuming the existence of a Beckerian commodity, that could be named moral self-satisfaction. This reasoning may run into criticism related generally to the elaborated methodological concept, with particular role of the “adhocery” accusation of Mark Balug. However, the concept of pleasures and pains bound with moral beliefs is rooted in our psychological, and even biological, knowledge about man, his needs and mind. The approach this paper proposes may be helpful in accomplishing a number of goals. First, the ancient forerunner of the “economic approach” Jeremy Bentham tried to create a comprehensive list of kinds of pleasures and pains. Such a list is increasingly more likely to be created in contemporary times, due to developments in psychology, unknown to Bentham. Secondly, developments in psychology may offer both inspiration and empirical support for particular commodities assumed in Beckerian utility functions,

The article seeks to answer the question of whether, and if yes – to what extent, voters are guided by economic issues in their decisions about electoral participation (activity or passivity in the elections). The analysis of this question was carried out in the context of declared electoral behavior of the respondents in elections which took place in 2014, namely to the European Parliament and the Polish regional (voivodship) parliaments. Detailed analysis was aimed at verifying the sociodemographic variables that could significantly differentiate the subjective importance of the economic factor in decisions taken on electoral participation. These empirical considerations took into account variables such as sex, age, education, marital status, financial situation, professional status and place of residence.

Opis:
In the article a folded nature of behavior of consumers was shown, which, in the conditions of an economic crisis is undergoing changes, influencing “economic behavior of the individual”. The realization of the above purpose was supported by the presentation of the role of the consumer as the “economic subject” as well as empirical examples relating to the change in his behavior in selected European countries in economic crisis. Conducted analyses show that the crisis, to a different extent, has an influence on the consumers’ and other market participants’ behavior, causing changes. Indications of the crisis are seen in consumers’ decisions, who, noticing the precarious situation and possibilities of the appearance of different risks, make their decisions, more or less thought through. Moreover, they seek ways to overcome the crisis. Effects of crisis can be more severe for some consumers and less troublesome for others.
