Opis:
The allocation of revenues / incomes is a key factor in the functioning of every socio economic system. Problem, even considerable risk of significant property and the income inequality lies in the fact that this would mortify capital and does not get into the economic cycle. Dangerous is that income inequality is understood (forces to be accepted) as a static and necessarily acceptable phenomenon of the current socio-economic system. The deepening income inequality is the cause of many negative issues of the contemporary world. World inequality (growing disparity in capital and labour income) obtains enormous proportions and has a growing trend, thereby it increases the volume and strength of its negative consequences, such as: economically unjustified concentration of capital and assets in the hands of individual layers of society, economically unjustifiable and unsustainable dis- parity between wealth growth and deepening inequality of its distribution, disregard for the principles of merit and non-discrimination within the manner and form of distribution and redistribution in society, narrowing the space for the recovery of capital surplus, increasingly deformed structure of production and consumption, unprecedented expansion of the financial sector; virtual demand generated by the expanding financial sector , excessive production capacities, increase of regional disparities, increasing economic and political power of TNK, increase of deficit of public finance; shifting of state costs to the citizens (health, education, social care, etc.), permanent income freezing of the majority of the population, growth in the number of people in poverty, escape of firms from paying social and fiscal payables, insufficient effective demand at real economy, corruption, excessive growth of government and household indebtedness, unemployment, inadequate position of people at the labour market, devastation of the environment, the decline of moral and value orientation in people's behaviour and in the functioning of society, decline of the birth rate, aging of population, social, economic and political instability, susceptibility of the society to social and economic shocks, etc. These facts also represent new economic and social conditions for business.

Opis:
This paper analyses socio-economic determinants of migration flows between Polish sub-regions in the years 2008-2010 by using the classification trees (CART) method. Six explanatory variables are selected to determine migration, including GDP per capita, number of economic entities (firms) per 100 inhabitants, investment assets and tangible assets per capita, registered unemployment rate, as well as average monthly salary. The CART method is then used to build models explaining the classification of migration flows into four quartile-based categories. The results confirm that the classification of internal migration flows is strongly determined by socio-economic features, in particular the number of economic entities, investment assets per capita and the unemployment rate. The suburbanisation from cities to neighbouring sub-regions is clearly demonstrated. Better developed regions, especially the largest Polish cities, have the highest migration outflows as well as inflows, yet retain positive net migration. We argue that the proposed analytical approach enables to determine the multidimensional relationships between explanatory social-economic variables and the migration coefficients under study.

Opis:
State entrepreneurship, or rather statism, was a strongly developed phenomenon in the economy of interwar Poland. Initially, its source was the legacy of the partition period in the form of the considerable assets of the partitioned states, numerous industrial plants, banks, transport infrastructure, forests and land. In a reborn Poland, in order to strengthen the economy and military potential, the authorities undertook, among other things, a number of industrial investments, developed state-owned banking and transport enterprises and organised profitable treasury monopolies. The share of the state sector in the economy reached 20%, and in some areas even 100%. Researchers of state entrepreneurship, usually, have emphasised its considerable economic efficiency and important social role.

In the years between 1944–1955 lasting foundations of the Polish economy were created based on communist dogma. In the mid-1950 s the so called socialized sector provided 75% of national income, however, multidirectional changes in economic policy in the following decades caused fluctuations in its importance. The changes were expressed by increases and decreases in the private sector share of jobs. As a result, the socialized sector was at its the peak in the 1970 s (86% share of the socialized sector in national income) only to fall to 81% of national income in the last year of communist rule. The dominance of the public sector was responsible for widespread mismanagement and social pathologies which led to the collapse of the economically inefficient system, preceded by a number of socio-political crises

Opis:
Stanisław Głąbiński (1862-1941), professor of Lviv University and the author of the two-volume ‘National Economics (‘Ekonomika narodowa’), was one of the main representatives of the historical-national approach in Polish economics. The study of national economics which he created was divided into general economics, i.e. economic theory, and practical economics, referred to as economic and social policies. Głąbiński emphasizes that there is a close relationship between the latter and ethics. Before the development of economic theory, economic thought was normative, because of its close relationship to ethics. However, it was not the history of economic theory, but the history of the notion of economic politics and of its practical application. Due to the social nature of ethics, there are also specific relations between it and theoretical economics. In modern countries finding a solution to the so-called social question has become a common task of economics and ethics. Ethical topics are also contained in the content of the category ‘social resources’, in which the social determinants of human economic activity find their fullest reflection. This applies in particular to the category of moral resources, which illustrates the functioning of state bodies and public institutions, the state of education, the prevailing habits and the customs and the character of the nation.

Opis:
In the years 2020–2021, Łódź and other surrounding cities will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the decisions made by the authorities of the Kingdom of Poland, aimed at the industrialization of this part of Polish territory. Some of these urban centers, such as Lodz, have been successful, while most of them have not been able to develop industrially. Witold Kula, an excellent researcher of socio-economic history, wrote about these issues. So far this work has not been published and thanks to the help of prof. Marcin Kula, the author’s son, was published in a journal. Kula decided to analyze the economic and social condition of the cities located within the Łódźand Łęczyca poviats (according to the administrative status of 1921). Therefore, he was interested in the area subjected to industrialization and protection policy by the authorities of the Kingdom of Poland under the Act of Governor Józef Zajączek of 1820. The author was looking for an answer to the fundamental question which of the cities located in this area were also in the legal sense and in economic terms, and which and from an economic point of view, they did not differ from the status of a village? The conclusions and reflections contained in the work cover a long chronological period, starting from 1807 and ending with 1869, i.e. from the moment of placing Polish cities under the administration of a modern bureaucratic national magistracy, to the year in which the tsarist decree was issued to rename some settlements. cities in the governorates of the Kingdom of Poland. The subject of this work were 13 cities, namely: Grabów, Kazimierz (Łęczycki), Łęczyca, Łódź, Parzęczew, Piątek, Rzgów, Tuszyn and Zgierz, and the cities elevated to the rank of cities during the Congress Kingdom: Ozorków (1816), Aleksandrów and Poddębice (1822), Konstantynów (1830). After the reform of 1869–1870, only four of them remained towns: Łęczyca, Łódź, Ozorków and Zgierz. In implementing the theme, W. Kula assumed the following stages: “1. Overview of the basic and existing definitions of the term «city»; 2. on this basis, determining the basic economic and demographic characteristics of the city, and thus the qualification criteria of the city; 3. establishing the facts corresponding to the successful qualification criteria in individual cities in a particular period of time”. The author did not intend to issue “a firm sentence on each of the examined cities, granting or denying it the right to the” title “of the city in the economic sense. More important for him was to “establish the actual state of affairs corresponding to individual criteria, the state which, using these criteria, will sometimes lead us to various conclusions”. The work of W. Kula was based on a variety of source material, primarily the resources of the then pre-war archives, which were partially lost as a result of the tragic consequences of the Second World War. Hence, this monograph is also extremely important because it provides contemporary researchers with invaluable source material for further analyzes of the history of the cities of the Łódź region. More than a hundred tables included in the work by W. Kula with various and valuable statistical data will help in this. The monograph published in print consists of an extensive part called Introduction, divided into two chapters, the first of which is entitled Issue, and the second - Sources and studies, and two parts. The first part is entitled The economic content of the term “city” and is also divided into the following two chapters: Existing definitions of the term “city” and Eligibility criteria for urban settlements. On the other hand, the second, entitled Socio-economic character of cities in the Łęczyca and Łódź poviats, is the main part of the monograph with a source analysis of 13 cities and towns under consideration. It opens with Introductory remarks, followed by an alphabetical list of the aforementioned urban centers in terms of economic and social aspects in the following 13 sections. The work is supplemented by a bibliographic list and a list of abbreviations. The editors of the journal made only minor interference in the work by correcting typos and the so-called Czech errors, as well as by modernizing the spelling and the scientific apparatus of the monograph (in the notation of footnotes and bibliographic items), e.g. by supplementing some items, introducing currently used abbreviations, etc. Moreover, the bibliographic list that opened the work in the manuscript was moved to its end. However, no linguistic and stylistic corrections were made to reflect the character of the writing style and the way of expressing thoughts as accurately as possible by W. Kula, then a young adept of the historical guild.

Within the framework of the Europe 2020 strategy smart growth is listed as one of the leading policy objectives aimed at improving the situation in education, digital society and research and innovation. The objective of this article is to evaluate the relationships between smart growth and economic and social cohesion factors. Aggregate measures were used to describe smart growth pillars. Here, social cohesion is described by the level of employment rate as one of the conditions essential to the well-being and prosperity of individuals. Economic cohesion is defined by the level of GDP per capita in PPS. Observation of these three phenomena forms the basis for the construction of panel data models and undertaking the assessment of the relationships between smart growth and economic and social cohesion factors. The study was performed on the group of 27 European Union countries in the period of 2002-2011.

Economic and social cohesion, Germany, GDP, gross wages, employment rate, unemployment rate
Opis:
The paper seeks to determine the occurrence of economic and social cohesion between German Länder. To achieve this aim, the author used the following methods: analysis of the literature, descriptive statistics, dissipation and clustering analysis. The research is based on data downloaded from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). Four variables were taken into consideration: GDP per capita, gross wages per worker, the employment rate and the unemployment rate. The study covered the period from 2000 to 2015, including a breakdown into two sub-periods: 2000-2008 (before the global financial crisis) and 2008-2015 (after the start of the crisis). The results of the research show that the disparities in the level of economic and social development between the Länder of Germany (East and West) decrease very slowly, before and after the outbreak of the crisis. In the analyzed period, the process of the GDP level catching up was relatively quick, followed by the level of wages, while the employment and unemployment levels were the slowest to catch up. However, despite catching up in development, there is still a large gap between the Eastern and Western Länder in terms of the basic economic indicators
W analizowanym przedziale czasowym stosunkowo najszybciej przebiegał proces nadrabiania dystansu w poziomie PKB, następnie w poziomie wynagrodzeń, a najwolniej w poziomie zatrudnienia i bezrobocia. Jednak pomimo nadrabiania zaległości rozwojowych, nadal landy wschodnie i landy zachodnie dzieli wyraźny dystans w podstawowych wskaźnikach ekonomicznych.

Stereotype images of both men and women that we find in every-day life, influence in a negative way our behavior, life aspirations and goals, as well as a picture of ourselves. Now, more women (65% of all) than men study at the universities and an average Polish man is less educated than an average Polish woman. In spite of that, the men earned in 2010 per person more by 15% than women. In 2012 only 12,2% management board members of the Polish stock exchange companies were women. The essay briefly refers to the etymology of ’sustainability’ and to its current use in the development of nations, agriculture and ecology. In absence of a singular consensual definition, we are advised to try as best we can to make use of the concept in development efforts. In agriculture, sustainable agroecosystems are designed and implemented to overcome the limitations of the industrialized agriculture with respect to the esource base. In ecosocial system study and management, ‘sustainability’ characterizes the state of the system. The concepts of ecological, economic and social sustainability as well as capitals, health, integrity and resilience appear to allow different but complementary assessments from different perspectives. Ecological, economic and social sustainability are used to study the response of an African agropastoral system to livestock health improvement. Economic and social sustainability appear to increase, but the progress is not sustained by the changes in ecological sustainability. To improve their livelihood, the agropastoralists are advised to implement rules for the prevention of overgrazing and undertake reproductive health measures in an effort to navigate, in a balanced way, the ecosocial system in ecological, economic and social dimensions.
