This article applies to the social dimension of the Salesian mission. Subject was, chronologically, included in the three points. The article begins with the presentation of the social aspect of the life of the Founder of the Salesians – St. John Bosco. Then it moves to the activity of Bl. Michael Rua and the contribution of other saints, the servants of God and candidates for sainthood from the Salesian Family. The last point indicates a variety of pro-social activities in the above mentioned areas in recent years. This article, of which the author is the Postulator for the Causes of Saints of the Salesian Family, is a contribution to the celebration of 150th anniversary of the Salesian Congregation (1859 – 2009).

Celem niniejszego artykułu jest analiza zmian, które zaszły w zakresie prawnego ujęcia działalności gospodarczej, na płaszczyźnie prawa polskiego, w okresie od 1988 roku do 2018 roku. Stanowi on jednocześnie próbę określenia aktualnego poziomu wolności działalności gospodarczej w Polsce. Szczególnej uwadze poddana została problematyka reglamentacji działalności gospodarczej.
The aim of this article is to analyse the changes that took place in the scope of legal recognition of economic activity within the Polish law in the period from 1988 to 2018. It is also an attempt to determine the current level of freedom of economy in Poland. Particular attention was paid to the issue of restrictions that are connected with economic activity.

The intention of the authors of the act of 2018 – Entrepreneurs’ Law (Polish: UPP) was to have the regulation cover a wide group of bodies mandated to audit businesses. With regard to the Supreme Audit Office this objective was not, however, met. This is due to the nature of NIK’s audits – which is state auditing – rather than administrative control, conducted for the legislative branch – the Sejm, which is mandated to present its proposals for audits, to be included in the NIK’s work plan, concerned with the executive branch. If the provisions set forth in Chapter 5 of the Entrepreneurs’ Law were applied, the control function of the Sejm would be significantly limited. In his article, the author attempts to answer the question whether the limitations set forth in the Law should be applied by NIK during its audits concerning entrepreneurs.

The ageing of societies has recently become one the most important phenomena shaping social policy in Poland and other developed countries. At the same time, it is becoming increasingly clear that ageing should not be perceived only in terms of threats. Silver economy, age management, and lifelong learning are the notions that become acknowledged by various labour market and social policy stakeholders. The rationale behind these ideas is to make the best use of the potential of people around the retirement, in line with the life cycle concept, but also of new social needs that arise with an increasing proportion of people aged 50+ in the society, and with considerably improving quality of their lives. The discussion presented in the article is limited to problems in extending working life of Poles. The aim of this paper is analysis of the factors influencing the extension of the working life in Poland, from an individual perspective, i.e. by looking at the reasons of individual decisions of people close to the retirement age. The article is both theoretical and empirical in nature, presenting a review of studies including the support for the economic activity of “older” workers, coupled with the outcomes of a statistical analysis carried out in the project „Equal opportunities in the labour market for people aged 50+”.

The purpose of this study was to identify factors affecting the classification as a working group of economically active people with disabilities. According to the Labour Force Survey methodology, working population is defined as labor resources, labor supply and labor force, which includes all people of working-age 15 and older, considered as employed or unemployed. Community of people with disabilities is extracted from the general population aged 15 and more, on the basis of law. People with disabilities include those aged 16 and over who have been awarded a judgment about the degree of disability or inability to work (CSO 2011). In the analyses of the labor market models with qualitative variables, which include logit models, are very often used. For the purpose of the study it was as-sumed that these models will describe the probability of a person with a disability to qualify for the category of employed. The basis for estimating probability mod-els were individual data obtained under representative Labour Force Survey in the fourth quarter of 2010. A set of explanatory variables contains 54 binary variables.

The statutory prohibition on taking up paid employment is the most rigorous one among analogous restrictions on regarding functionaries of other uniformed services. This regulation prohibits officers of the Parliament’s Guard from undertaking other gaining activities than the ones of scientific or scientific-didactic nature, to which the Chief of the Chancellery of the Sejm consents on condition that it does not interfere with the performance of official tasks. The Parliamentary Guardian also cannot run his own economic activity.

In many countries, data about the economically inactive population attracts more and more attention, because this group is a potential source of labor supply. The article fo- cuses attention on the economically inactive in Poland. Since 1990, the share of economically inactive persons in the total population (15-64 years) remains at a high level. For young people the main causes of economic inactivity is education and training, family responsibilities, while in the case of the elderly illness, disability and retirement. This article addresses also the issues of impact posed by the economic inactivity.

Population ageing is one of the major challenges of modern Europe. In this context is worth to assessment the differences in the situation of women and men aged 50+ on the labour market. In the area of interest are primarily people aged 50-59/64, which are at this stage of life in which the situation on the labour market is particularly difficult. Paper was prepared mainly on the basis of the unpublished data developed within the project “Equalisation of Opportunities in the Labour Market for People Aged 50+”. The analysis was conducted with the application of basic descriptive statistics, as well as chi-squared test. Comparing income of women and men aged 50+, t-Student test and median test for independent samples, as well as one- and two-way analysis of variance were used.

The aim of this paper is to determine the specificity and importance of Wrocław-Śródmieście (the important part of Wrocław, the former district) in the economy of Wrocław and its prospects for development, taking into account strengths and weaknesses. The object of this research is the statistical unit of Wrocław defined by the boundaries of the former district − Wrocław-Śródmieście. The research covers the period (as the availability of statistical data) for the years 2009-2015. The author used a descriptive method, simple statistical methods, an analysis of literature and source documents, a deductive method and an empirical inference.

Subject and purpose of work: The subject of this paper concerns theoretical and methodological approaches to the analysis of foreign economic activity of the region in the context of Euroregional cooperation, which is an important factor of socio-economic development of the country. The main purpose is to identify such economic categories as “foreign economic activity activation of the region”, “organizational and economic mechanism activation of foreign economic activity of the region in the context of Euroregional cooperation” as well as to develop a methodological scheme for the diagnostics of foreign economic activity of regions in the context of Euroregional cooperation. Materials and methods: In order to clarify theoretical concepts and identify similarities and differences in their definitions, the method of morphological analysis was adopted. This made it possible to systematize different options in terms of their characteristics and create new, hypothetically possible objects. Hence the research methods, of comparison, theoretical generalization and data systematization, etc. were applied. Results: Some interpretations of the key definitions of the categories “foreign economic activity activation of the region”, “organizational and economic mechanism activation of foreign economic activity of the region in context of Euroregional cooperation” were worked out and methodical principles of analysis of foreign economic activity of the region were offered. Also, foreign economic activity diagnostics of regions in the context of Euroregional cooperation was carried out and interregional differences were defined. The results of the study can help derive recommendations for the introduction of foreign economic activity activation of the regions. Conclusions: On the basis of the evaluation of Ukraine's foreign economic activity in terms of exports, imports and the trade balance in 2010-2019, three periods were identified: 2010-2012 – before the crisis, 2013-2015 – economic crisis and its consequences, and 2016-2019 – the period after the crisis recovery and of unstable developmental trends. Significant interregional differentiation in the levels of the development of foreign economic activity of the regions of Ukraine was revealed. The leading regions in terms of foreign economic activity have proved to be Kyiv city, Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk regions.

Subject and purpose of work: The article describes a new subject of research into the history of economic thought, the international Pribuzhie region. The article discusses the history of the rise and development of economic science in the Pribuzhie region from the 8th to the 21st century, which is the subject of research. The aim of the article is to present a new perspective on the subject of research as well as the characteristics of the process of economic science in the Pribuzhie region. Materials and methods: The article uses a conventional method, which is a collection of historical, hilosophical and economic methods of cognition, on the basis of which, in the context of a scientific program, the past of economic thought and relevant doctrines are examined, and their content is described. Results: The various historical stages in the development of the economic thought of the Pribuzhie region are described, as well as new, unpublished facts relating to individual economic doctrines. Conclusions: Political activity and public administration activities should involve economic education, which defines the essence of economic policy, its objectives and ways of realization in the practical sphere.
Przedmiot i cel pracy: Artykuł opisuje nowy przedmiot badań historii myśli ekonomicznej, jakim jest międzypaństwowy region Pribuzhie. W artykule omówiona została historia powstania i rozwoju nauki ekonomicznej w regionie Pribuzhie od VIII do XXI wieku, co jest przedmiotem prowadzonych badań. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie nowego spojrzenia na przedmiot badań, jak również charakterystyka procesu powstawania nauki ekonomicznej w regionie Pribuzhie. Materiały i metody: W artykule została użyta metoda konwencjonalna, która jest zbiorem historycznych, filozoficznych i ekonomicznych metod poznania, na podstawie których w ramach programu naukowego badana jest przeszłość myśli ekonomicznej oraz właściwe doktryny, jak również opisane ich treści. Wyniki: Opisane zostały poszczególne etapy historyczne w rozwoju myśli ekonomicznej regionu Pribuzhie oraz ukazane nowe, niepublikowane fakty odnoszące się do poszczególnych doktryn ekonomicznych. Wnioski: Działalność polityczna i działania administracji publicznej powinny angażować naukę ekonomiczną, która określa istotę polityki gospodarczej, jej cele i sposoby realizacji w sferę praktyczną.

Increasing labor force participation of the elderly is one of the main goals of labor market policy in Poland. In view of the growing share of older people in the total population, raising the efficiency of exploiting their potential career becomes even more significant. This is all the more important, in view of the decision to gradually raise the retirement age, which means the lengthening of professional activity. The purpose of this article is to identify the degree of utilization of the professional potential of the elderly people in Poland. The identification was made on the basis of the analysis of the actual changes in the economic activity of the elderly that were taken in the past. In addition, attempts to assess the current activities for the activation of the older labor force were undertaken.

The scope of the paper refers to long- and medium-run trends of labour supply in Poland. The main purpose is to determine current trends in the labour supply and its projections till the year 2050. In the theoretical part of the paper determinants of labour supply are considered. The projections are based on the population forecasts till 2050 made by the Central Statistical Office of Poland (CSO) and by the authors’ own simulations. Several variants of upper limit of working age and activity rates are taken into account. The population forecasts by the CSO indicate it will occur big decrease of working age population till 2050. The biggest decrease will refer to the group of working age 18–59/64 years and the lowest decrease in the age group 18–66 years. The analysis shows that the declines in labour supply in the years 2020–2050 will occur in all variants of working age population, the biggest decline in the variant assuming the age group 18–59/64 and the smallest decline – in the group 15–74 years. Retirement age is of big importance for the size of labour supply. This is why it is recommended to encourage older people to prolong their economic activity. It is also necessary to increase activity rates in the working age population.
