Bezpieczeństwo i poczucie bezpieczeństwa należą do elementarnych, wręcz atawistycznych, egzystencjalnych potrzeb człowieka, zarówno w wymiarze jednostkowym, społeczno-kulturowym, jak i globalnym. Człowiek, będąc niewątpliwie podmiotem bezpieczeństwa, zdolny jest funkcjonować w pełnym spektrum swoich możliwości oraz ewoluować społecznie dopiero wówczas, gdy potrzeby bezpieczeństwa – przedstawione swego czasu na wektorze słynnej piramidy Maslowa – zostaną w pełni zaspokojone. W artykule podjęto próbę odpowiedzi na fundamentalne pytania: Czym właściwie jest poczucie bezpieczeństwa i dlaczego ten stan i proces stanowi tak istotną rolę w życiu człowieka? Jak żyć godnie i (mimo wszystko) bezpiecznie w świecie zdominowanym przez atrofię wartości oraz chwiejnym pod względem aksjologicznym? Kanwę do owych rozważań stanowi koncepcja eko-filozofii Henryka Skolimowskiego.
Security and a sense of security are elementary, even atavistic, existential human needs, both in the individual, socio-cultural and global dimensions. Human as a subject of security, is able to function in the full spectrum of his abilities and to evolve socially only when the security needs – presented on the vector of Maslow's famous pyramid – will be fully satisfied. The article attempts to answer the following fundamental questions: What exactly is a sense of security and why this state and process plays such an important role in human life? How to live with dignity and (in spite of all) safely in the world that is dominated by the atrophy of values and which is axiologically unstable? The concept of Henryk Skolimowski's eco-philosophy forms the basis for these reflections.

The problem discussed in the article has become an inherent part of the contemporary tendency of growing interest in environmental issues, permeating from the natural sciences to the humanities and social sciences. The author, as a humanist by training, combined the concept of the human environ- ment, and thus the natural issue, with the humanistic and social problems in the article (i.e., he did so in the interdisciplinary dimension). Such a vision (a specific philosophy) of combining these mul- tidisciplinary issues has also led the author to outline his concept of environmental security, closely related to the idea of the human environment discussed earlier.

Opis:
Ecological (environmental) security can be defined as a permanent state of no threats to environmental balance. The security understood that way is analyzed in the context of national security. National security is more and more often being described as a system. This publication assumes that no state will be able to maintain its integrity unless it provides an appropriate level of ecological security perceived as systemic environmental protection. A secure state is the one taking care of the natural environment. This approach results from the systems philosophy, promoted in the publication, concerning the perception of ecological security as one of the areas (subsystems) of the global national security system (supersystem). A proper condition of the natural environment framed by state borderlines is reflected in other system-related domains shaping the global national security system. The issues mentioned in the publication are going to be juxtaposed with the concept of the national security of Poland; still, these remarks are going to be of general nature, going beyond the context of Poland.

Opis:
Environmental issues constitute more and more eagerly undertaken scientific issues. It is probably due to the contemporary situation, in which the threats to the environment inhabited by people are increasing. Importantly, the problems of this type are not only examined within the framework of environmental or ecological sciences but also the social sciences and humanities. There is nothing strange about it; after all, the society in which a person lives is a crucial element of the human environment. Every person’s life takes place in a particular environment, the state of which affects people, their psychophysical health and well-being, the fulfillment of life necessities, behavior, and functioning in society. Such issues are discussed within the framework of environmental social psychology and environmental sociology. This article is devoted precisely to these disciplines. The publication briefly presents the essence of these environmental social sciences (starting from the characteristics of environmental social psychology, and then moving to environmental sociology). However, their essence was shown from the perspective of a specific, concise philosophy (vision) of perceiving the human environment that can be found in these social sciences. The human environment can be understood in various ways, not necessarily coinciding with what is considered the environment in natural sciences. This vision of perception of the human environment in the publication is a useful criterion for the interpretation and division of these disciplines into two basic variants – traditional (typical humanistic and social, currently applicable) and postulated model (socio-natural). It is also able to guarantee sustainable environmental (ecological and health) security.
Zagadnienia środowiskowe to coraz chętniej podejmowana obecnie problematyka naukowa. Wynika to zapewne ze współczesnej sytuacji, w których zagrożenia dla zamieszkiwanego przez ludzi środowiska są coraz większe. I co ważne tego typu problemy badane są nie tylko w ramach nauk środowiskowych czy ekologicznych, ale również w obrębie nauk społecznych i humanistycznych. I nie ma w tym nic dziwnego, przecież społeczeństwo, w którym żyje człowiek, to ważny element ludzkiego środowiska. Życie każdego człowieka przebiega bowiem w pewnym środowisku, którego stan oddziałuje w odpowiedni sposób na ludzi, ich zdrowie psychofizyczne i samopoczucie, realizację potrzeb życiowych, czy zachowanie i funkcjonowanie w społeczeństwie. Tego typu zagadnienia podejmowane są w ramach społecznej psychologii środowiskowej i socjologii środowiskowej. Właśnie tym dyscyplinom poświęcono niniejszy artykuł. W publikacji przybliżono zwięźle istotę tych środowiskowych nauk społecznych (poczynając od charakterystyki społecznej psychologii środowiskowej, a następnie przechodząc do socjologii środowiskowej). Natomiast ich istotę ukazano z perspektywy pewnej zwięzłej filozofii (wizji) postrzegania ludzkiego środowiska, jaką można odnaleźć w tych naukach społecznych. Środowisko człowieka bowiem może być różnie rozumiane, niekoniecznie zbieżne z tym co za środowisko uznaje się w naukach przyrodniczych. Owa wizja postrzegania środowiska człowieka stanowi w publikacji użyteczne kryterium interpretacji i podziału tych dyscyplin na dwie podstawowe odmiany – tradycyjną (typowo humanistyczno-społeczną, obecnie obowiązującą) oraz na model postulowany (społeczno-przyrodniczy). Jest on w stanie zagwarantować również zrównoważone bezpieczeństwo środowiskowe (ekologiczne i zdrowotne).

The purpose of this article was a review of the concept of ecological spirituality. Prior to this, however, the development of ecophilosophical thought of prof. Skolimowski has been presented. The starting point for Skolimowski’s philosophical thought is the holistic picture of the world (cosmology), which becomes the basis for the formulation of new ethics whose main attitude is reverence for the world and the man immersed in it. It is undoubtedly an original idea, opposing the canons and the paradigms valid in modern science. Skolimowski offers a holistic view of our civilization, the restoration of lost values, and inhibition of unilateral, i.e. materialistic progress. It is amazing how multifaceted Skolimowski’s publications are, ranging from strictly philosophical texts, regarding for instance analytical philosophy, to works concerning religious or social issues. The review of Skolimowski’s eco-theology has been conducted from the perspective of Catholic theology. The concept of God, spirituality, and the random treatment of other religions presented by Skolimowski are unacceptable. In reality, it is an attempt to subordinate religion to the assumptions of his own ecophilosophy.

One of the most important problems of the present day is the safety of the existence of a human being and his or her cultural, civilizational and environmental existence. The idea about what should be done in order to guarantee the safe existence of species is the reason for the discussion within the broad circles of those dealing with science and also philosophy, and in particular eco-philosophy. It is eco-philosophy that truly focuses on substantiating the ways of thinking as well as the rules governing the committed and well-thought actions related to the environmental protection. Educational initiatives for sustainable development are open to the influence of eco-philosophy. Therefore, the need to fill educational strategies and programs with the subtle philosophical “matter”, expressed in the form of values and related behavioral norms, opens a significantly large space for eco-philosophers and the eco-philosophy itself. It needs to be emphasized that the relation between the education for sustainable development and the activities aimed at strengthening the structures of the civil society creates additional interest on the part of numerous social entities as regards the philosophical discourse.

W artykule przedstawiono powstanie idei zrównoważonego rozwoju, jako alternatywnej drogi rozwoju współczesnego człowieka postawionego w obliczu globalnego kryzysu ekonomiczno-ekologicznego, oraz omówiono fundamentalne dla tej koncepcji nowe pojmowanie wspólnoty ludzkiej. W ujęciu zrównoważonego rozwoju i wszelkich ekofilozoficznych koncepcji kategoria wspólnoty ludzkiej odnosi się do całego gatunku człowieka. Jej wyróżnikiem staje się powszechna świadomość ekologiczna z naczelnym postulatem ekocentryzmu. Warunkiem upowszechnienia świadomości ekologicznej jest globalna edukacja proekologiczna, celem zaś - zbudowanie nowej cywilizacji ludzkiej, w ramach której zlikwidowane zostaną wszelkie zagrożenia dla dalszej egzystencji ludzkości.
The article presents the formation of the sustainable development idea as the alternative for the development of modern humanity in the face of economical and ecological crisis. The new understanding of human community, which is fundamental for this idea, is also described. The idea of sustainable development, and all the ecophilosophical ideas, consider the human community as the reference to whole human species. Its main characteristics are the universal ecological awareness and the postulate of ecocentrism. The requirement for the universal ecological awareness is global proecological education and the purpose of it is to build a new human civilization in which all the threats for the further human existence will be eliminated.

In this article, the author analyzes eco-education from a transdisciplinary perspective, as part of the “new education”, referring to its current dimensions, its goals and its utility in shaping the attitudes and behaviors of contemporary humans towards their environment and towards sustainable living. The goals and content of eco-education are dependent on a new philosophy, on a new axiological and ethical orientation that is, opposed to rationalistic philosophy, which guided the age of machinism and industrialization. The new view regarding humans’ (anthroposphere) relations with nature (biosphere and geosphere), is inspired from the fundamental rights of the human being, as part of nature, from universal values which harmonize sociosphere and biosphere, the ecological awareness of contemporary society with regard to the objective laws of nature, biodiversity conservation and environmental protection by juridical laws. These goals are meant for the entire population, especially children and young people, with the aid of schools and other educational factors (church, mass – media, cultural foundations, non-governmental organizations etc.), an ecological awareness, positive feelings and attitudes with respect to the environment, skills, abilities and capacities for efficient action in the sense of protecting nature and conserving ecological circuits. The author lays an emphasis on the idea that ecological education, in all its forms, will not yield the results expected by experts and future generations if it is undertaken randomly, fragmentarily, incoherently – regardless of how diversified and quantitatively extended it might be. As a global issue of today’s society – the efficiency of eco-education is dependent on the philosophy of nature and life, materialized in a global strategy, such as that of durable and knowledge-based development, which will facilitate the harmonization of various public policies launched by contemporary organizations and authorities. Generally speaking, any public policy has an ecological component, and the obtainment of performance in ecological policies necessarily involves an adequate ecological education.

The article provides an answer in a new dimension to the very old question about the real value of production which has become up to date again after the financial crisis with its immense losses of securities and stocks. The answer includes the knowledge from the latest research on the existence of the economic order in the real equal natural world with energy as the means of payment. Henryk Skolimowski is a relatively little-known Polish philosopher whose works delve into metaphysics, philosophy of culture, philosophy of technology and ecology. Although he was born and educated in Poland, he left the country immediately after completing higher education to pursue scientific career in the West, in Great Britain, and subsequently the United States. That is why he managed to identify issues that are still relevant today, noticing the problems that individuals and the entire society may face due to consumerism and, above all, the technological mentality geared towards financial profit. Skolimowski noted that although science and technology make life easier in some respects and offer great benefits, they ultimately harm people and the environment. Skolimowski claims that the crisis of the Western civilization, including contemporary Europe, is to a large extent a crisis of philosophical thought. Today, mechanistic notions still predominate, causing the world to be perceived as a machine. Machines can be disrespected. For this reason, Skolimowski proposes that the current mindset should be replaced with a new metaphysics, and puts forward his project, which he calls eco-cosmology. The Polish philosopher believes that nature and the entire universe should be treated as a sanctuary, with respect for everything that lives. This is a new, pro-ecological vision of the world that can save the world from the negative aftermath of technological development. Skolimowski’s philosophy draws on the style of philosophizing characteristic of the antique philosophical currents, such as Stoicism or Epicureanism. Philosophy should serve to develop the spirituality of individuals and be a tool for more profound critical thinking. Thus, Skolimowski’s philosophical thought is at the same time a return to the sources of European culture.

W artykule przywoływane są koncepcje człowieka ekologicznego i kultury ekologicznej, stworzone przez polskiego twórcę filozofii ekologicznej, Henryka Skolimowskiego. Zdaniem autora, stanowią one konstruktywne propozycje w kształtowaniu postaw zaangażowanych ekologicznie w pedagogice zrównoważonego rozwoju. Skuteczne i trwałe osiąganie celów tej koncepcji wymaga metanoi – szerokiej przemiany świadomościowej i mentalnej w kierunku postaw wrażliwych na współczesną problematykę relacji człowiek–środowisko przyrodnicze: partycypacji, empatii, umiarkowania, rewerencji i odpowiedzialności. Dotyczy to również sfery związanej z konsumpcją. Wartości te powinny stać się elementem głębokich kompetencji ekologicznych, tworzących podstawę dla ugruntowanej mentalnie kultury ekologicznej. W jej kształtowaniu kluczową rolę do odegrania ma pedagogika (w tym pedagogika lasu), a przywoływane w artykule idee i podejścia mogą być wykorzystywane w służącej temu praktyce edukacyjnej.
The aim of the article is to outline the direction in education and pedagogy, taking into account, in an integrated manner, contemporary ecological, social and economic problems and challenges; at the same time preparing a young person to understand and face the contemporary challenges of the word. The article refers to the concepts of the Ecological Man and ecological culture created by the Polish creator of the ecological philosophy, Henryk Skolimowski. They may constitute constructive proposals in shaping ecologically engaged attitudes in the pedagogy of sustainable development. Effective and lasting achievement of the goals of sustainability requires metanoia – a broad transformation of consciousness and mind towards attitudes, which are sensitive to the contemporary issues of the Human – Nature relationship: participation, empathy, frugality, reverence and responsibility. This also applies to the consumption processes. These values should become an element of deep ecological competences, forming the basis for a mentally grounded ecological culture. Forest Pedagogy has a key role to play in shaping it, and the ideas mentioned in the article can be used in the educational practice serving this purpose.

Opis:
W pierwszym punkcie artykułu określam zaplecze terminologiczne zagadnienia, przede wszystkim definiuję w jaki sposób posługiwać się będę pojęciem ekskluzji (wykluczenia). W drugim punkcie opisuję negatywne znaczenie ekskluzji społecznej ze względów ekologicznych, które wynika z postępującego wyniszczania naturalnych zasobów naszej planety. Trzeci punkt poświęcam czysto pozytywnemu rozumieniu pojęcia ekskluzji ekologicznej ukazując podejmowany przez bioregionalistów postulat wytyczenia przestrzeni, w których przyroda pozostałaby w swym dziewiczym, nienaruszonym stanie. Ostatni punkt dotyczy problemu przeciwdziałania negatywnie rozumianemu wykluczeniu z perspektywy ekologicznej, skupiam się w nim głównie na postulatach nauk humanistycznych zaangażowanych na rzecz ekologii oraz na idei zrównoważonego rozwoju.
In the first point of the article, I define the terminology of the issue, primarily I define how I will use the term exclusion. In the second point, I describe the negative significance of social exclusion for ecological reasons, which occurs due to the progressive destruction of the natural resources of our planet. The third point is devoted to the commonly positive understanding of ecological exclusion which is reflected in the bio-regionalists’ postulate to draw an area of pristine and untouched nature. The last point, concerns counteraction against the negatively understood exclusion from the ecological perspective. I focus here mainly on postulates created in the field of humanities involved in ecology and the idea of sustainable development.

The present state of the environment forces us to find any possible allies in the fight against the ecological crisis. It is religions that are new and important allies in this fight. Religions contribute to shaping ecological attitudes in multiple ways. Statistical research shows that a large proportion of the human population is religious, and finds religion an important part of its everyday life. Thus, the involvement of religious leaders in fostering concern for the environment could be a vital factor bringing about changes in people’s attitudes toward the environment. Furthermore, religions are helpful in analyzing the causes of the ecological crisis; they strengthen the case for environmental protection, and engage in environmental projects and lobbying for the environment.
