Opis:
When an earthquake occurs, the structure will enter into a nonlinear stage; therefore, new approaches based on nonlinear analysis are needed to flourish with the purpose of more realistic investigations on seismic behavior and destruction mechanism of structures. According to the modern philosophy, “Performance-based Earthquake Engineering” is formed in which simple nonlinear static analyses are mostly used in order to determine the structure’s behavior in nonlinear stage. This method assumes that the structure response is only controlled by the main mode and the shape of this mode will remain the same, while it enters the nonlinear stage. Both of these assumptions are approximations, especially in high buildings, which have a long period. It seems that constant load pattern used in these methods cannot consider all of the effects properly. In this paper, an attempt was made to study the accuracy of these methods in comparison to nonlinear dynamic analysis, by considering various load patterns existing in FEMA, also load patterns proportional to higher modes in nonlinear static method, and employing an approximative method of MPA modal analysis, study the accuracy of these methods in comparison to nonlinear dynamic analysis. For this purpose, three steel frames of 4, 8, and 12-stories with steel shear wall have been studied.

The nonlinear dynamic behavior has an important impact on energy dissipation and vibra- tion damping characteristics of bolted joints. Firstly, the development of tangential dynamic models is summarized and analyzed. Secondly, a five-parameter Iwan model based on a trun- cated power-law distribution is proposed. The backbone and hysteresis curves are obtained. Thirdly, normalized and dimensionless analysis is performed. On the basis of the above, a more concise four-parameter Iwan model with stiffness continuity is proposed. Finally, the validity of the model is verified by comparing the energy dissipation vs excitation force amplitude curve with the experimental data.

In this paper, nonlinear dynamical behavior of a rectangular plate traveled by a moving mass as well as an equivalent concentrated force with non-constant velocity is studied. The nonlinear governing coupled partial differential equations (PDEs) of motion are derived by energy method using Hamilton’s principle based on the large deflection theory in conjuncture with the von-Karman strain-displacement relations. Then Galerkin’s method is used to transform the equations of motion into a set of three coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) which then is solved in a semi-analytical way to get the dynamical response of the plate. Also, by using the Finite Element Method (FEM) with ANSYS software, the obtained results in nonlinear form are verified by FEM results. Then, a parametric study is conducted by changing the size of moving mass/force and the velocity of the traveling mass/force with a constant acceleration/deceleration, and the outcome nonlinear results are compared to the results from linear solution.

In the present paper, a frequency domain method for damping determination is presented. The described method is especially developed for low damped systems with well separated eigenfrequencies. Using the Short-Term Fourier transform and Resampling (STFR) of the signal, decay curves of several mode shapes can be identified and amplitude-dependent damping values can be calculated. Additionally, two common methods for damping determination are explained briefly. Finally, the quality of the introduced method is evaluated comparing the variances of the identified damping values by means of different methods. In this context, the damping for beams clamped in a suspended way is analyzed. Stainless steel is used as the specimen material.

Purpose: The aim of this paper is to investigate experimentally the effect of large vibration of a cantilever and a fully free rectangular plate made by a Fused Filament Fabrication process. Furthermore, this investigation attempts to compare our measurements and those obtained in the literature experimentally. Design/methodology/approach: For this purpose, a test rig was designed and manufactured for all experimental trials. The plate was excited randomly and harmonically at large displacement respectively, to obtain the linear and non-linear frequencies parameter. Findings: The non-linear dynamic behaviour of our structure at forced vibration is figured by exciting the plate at large displacement. The dependence of frequency and amplitude vibration are examined for the first, second, and third mode shapes. The non-linear dynamic behaviour of cantilever plates is compared with literature to illustrate the convergence of our results by using our specific mechanical properties, printing parameters, and process. Furthermore, the non-dimensional comparison is shown by 33.38%, 5.83%, and 20.58% for the first, second, and third mode shapes, respectively. Research limitations/implications: Experimental tests will be performed on a 3D-printed metal plate to improve the present work. Practical implications: This work is intended to determine the dynamic proprieties of our parts in order to manufacture a safe and comfort machine. Originality/value: Actually, the dynamic behaviour of our 3D printing plates is compared with the obtained in the case of the isotropic plate for the aim to predict the convergence of both structures.

Exploring the ways to develop a comprehensive learner-friendly telecollaborative model of learning led to the introduction of nonlinear dynamic motivation-oriented model. To foster self-regulated learner autonomy, the model aims at recruiting the potential behind formulaic sequences for L2 comprehension-production in response to immediate processing demands as well as nonlinearity and dynamicity of motivational factors at individual level. Drawing on different theories and findings (e.g. complex dynamic systems, input processing model, motivational task processing model, etc.), the model presents a dynamic conceptualization of language learning to develop language skills in CALL context. To test the model and the validity of the suggested strategies, a mixed methods approach via questionnaire, interview and learner-self report was conducted in a term-long study among 47 EFL learners. The measures of performance taken before and after the intervention indicated improvement and confirmed the effectiveness of NDM-oriented telecollaborative model’s strategies at three levels of sociolinguistic, ethnolinguistic, and psycholinguistic. The interview data reflected participants’ positive attitude towards their perceived improvement over the duration of the intervention. The effectiveness of the model at recruiting formulaic sequences with respect to nonlinearity and dynamicity of motivational factors at individual level is the main implication of the study for CALL pedagogy.

The dynamic response of a nonlinear system is very sensitive to initial conditions. Both the irrational nonlinearity and the large displacement of a smooth and discontinuous (SD) oscillator have been studied in this paper. An experimental study has been conducted on a model of the SD oscillator with different initial conditions and smoothness parameters. Experimental results indicate that tiny variation in the initial displacement will lead to different kinds of vibrations, and the system exhibits a wide range of nonlinear dynamical phenomena with the change of smoothness parameters. All experimental results are in good conformity with numerical simulation results.

Neural and sliding mode controllers are generally based on the principle of nonlinear dynamic inversion. This leads to control signals containing high frequency components. This can result in actuator rate limiting due to loss of phase at higher frequencies. Large control inputs, for example due to the saturation component of the sliding mode controller can also result in position saturation of the actuator. In this paper we show that by the introduction of suitable phase compensators and an antiwindup scheme the neuralaided sliding mode controller performance can be improved. A novel scheme is proposed for the cascaded feedback controller which addresses practical requirements of both state limiting and control surface saturation respectively.

This paper deals with a simulation-based design of model-based iterative learning control (ILC) for multi-input, multi-output nonlinear time-varying systems. The main problem of the implementation of the nonlinear ILC in practice is possible inadmissible transient growth of the tracking error due to a non-monotonic convergence of the learning process. A model-based nonlinear closed-loop iterative learning control for robot manipulators is synthesized and its tuning depends on only four positive gains of both controllers - the feedback one and the learning one. A simulation-based approach for tuning the learning and feedback controllers is proposed to achieve fast and monotonic convergence of the presented ILC. In the case of excessive growth of transient errors this approach is the only way for learning gains tuning by using classical engineering techniques for practical online tuning of feedback gains.

The interaction between dam foundation and rocks plays a significant role in the design and analysis of concrete arch dams. In the current study, comprehensive dynamic analysis of the dam-reservoir-foundation system is performed by developing a non-linear finite element program. The objective of this paper is to study the seismic behavior of a concrete arch dam taking into account the effects of foundation discontinuities and foundation inhomogeneity on the stability. Proper modeling truncated boundary conditions at the far-end of the foundation and reservoir fluid domain as well as to correctly apply the in-situ stresses for the foundation rock represents field conditions in the model more realistically. In this paper, the nonlinear seismic response of the dam-reservoir-foundation system includes dam-canyon interaction, dam body contraction joint opening, discontinuities (possible sliding planes) of the foundation rock and the failure of the joined rock and concrete materials. The results for the Karun 4 dam as a case study revealed the substantial effect of modeling discontinuities and boundary conditions of the rock foundation under seismic excitation that needs to be considered in the design of new dams and can be applied to seismic safety evaluation of the existing dams.

The study of dynamic behavior of functional graded circular plates has gained significant attention in engineering in recent time due to the vast application of the material in engineering and manufacturing industry. This study focus on the application of two-dimensional differential transform method to investigate the dynamic response of functional graded circular plates resting on two-parameter elastic foundations. However, the maximum deflection is obtained using dimensionless scheme, Laplace-Padè approximant is used to treat the small domain issue of the analytical solutions. Also, the solutions obtained are used for parametric investigation. From the results, it is found out that increase in Winkler, Pasternak and combine foundation parameters results to decrease in maximum deflection, increase in material properties of the functional graded plates leads to decrease in maximum deflection, clamped boundary condition has the lower deflection. Increasing the excitation frequency results in lower deflection. Results obtained maybe used as benchmark for validation of method using other approaches.

The paper presents the development of modelling and control strategies for a six-degree-of-freedom, unmanned combat aerial vehicle with the inclusion of the centre of gravity position travel during the straight-leg part of an in-flight refuelling manoeuvre. The centre of gravity position travel is found to have a parabolic variation with an increasing mass of aircraft. A nonlinear dynamic inversion-based neurocontroller is designed for the process under investigation. Three radial basis function neural networks are exploited in order to invert the dynamics of the system, one for each control channel. Modal and time-domain analysis results show that the dynamic properties of the aircraft are strongly influenced during aerial refuelling. The effectiveness of the proposed control law is demonstrated through the use of simulation results for an F-16 aircraft. The longitudinal neurocontroller provided interesting results, and performed better than a baseline nonlinear dynamic inversion controller without neural network. On the other hand, the lateral-directional nonlinear dynamic inversion-based neurocontroller did not perform well as the longitudinal controller. It was concluded that the nonlinear dynamic inversion-based neurocontroller could be applied to control an unmanned combat aerial vehicle during aerial refuelling.
