Opis:
The pursuit of reduced greenhouse gas emissions, as well as the increased share of renewable fuels in the overall energy balance has led to a search for alternative energy sources. One of the fuels on which great hopes are set as fuel for engines is biomethane or biogas, whose main component is methane. Biogas can be obtained from different products by using different technologies, so that it has potential as a widelyavailable fuel, which is quite easy to produce. The percentage of methane in biogas depends on the technology for obtaining biogas and ranges from 35% to around 75%. The largest biogas sources can be animal farms, where it is obtained from animal excrement. Another source is sewage treatment plants and rubbish dumps, where substantial quantities of biogas are obtained as a result of natural processes occurring in waste dumping sites or sewage. Biogas can also be acquired from waste obtained from fruit and vegetable processing as well as waste from meat plants. This paper examines the possibility of using biogas as a fuel for diesel engines. In these engines, the combustion of biogas (methane) requires the application of a dual-fuel supply system in which liquid fuel initiating gas fuel selfignition will be injected into the combustion chamber along with methane. The paper also contains example results showing the effect of the methane dose on the course of the combustion process in diesel engines.

Opis:
The paper raises the problem of the lack of a methodology for how to calibrate the Diesel-LPG dual fuel system in the literature and the lack of information about the impact of calibration method on reducing the amount of consumed Diesel. Its purpose is to study such a system in which a part of Diesel is replaced by a mixture of propane and butane and to establish methodology of choosing the calibration parameters to ensure the maximum reduction in the amount of burned Diesel while keeping the engine durability. The results of the research done on the road and chassis dynamometer, carried on the van type vehicle, allow to conclude that the reduction in the amount of consumed Diesel may vary by up to 25% between different calibration methods.

Opis:
W artykule przedstawiono wyniki prac związanych z adaptacją silnika Fiat 1.3 MultiJet do zasilania dwupaliwowego – sprężonym gazem ziemnym CNG i olejem napędowym. Podstawowym celem prac była realizacja badań dotyczących wpływu niewielkiego dodatku gazu ziemnego na zadymienie spalin w zmiennych warunkach pracy silnika. Wymagało to oprócz zmian konstrukcyjnych związanych z instalacją systemu zasilania gazem, również korekcji parametrów recyrkulacji spalin i ilości powietrza doprowadzonego do silnika. Badania przeprowadzono w punktach pracy silnika odwzorowujących test jezdny NEDC. Dobór punktów pomiarowych został dokonany wg kryterium największego udziału w teście homologacyjnym NEDC, obejmujących całe pole pracy silnika wykorzystywane przy realizacji testu wykonywanego na hamowni podwoziowej. W badaniach stosowano udziały energetyczne gazu w wynikające z czasu otwarcia wtryskiwaczy gazu – 2ms. Analizowano zadymienie spalin w skali masowej [mg/m3].
The paper presents the results of work related to the adaptation of the Fiat 1.3 MultiJet engine for dual fuel supplying - compressed natural gas CNG and diesel. The primary objective of this work was to perform research on the effect of a small additive of natural gas for smoke opacity in variable operating conditions of the engine. It required in addition to the construction changes associated with the installation of the gas supply system, the correction parameters of exhaust gas recirculation and air volume. Research was carried out in the operating points characteristic for the NEDC driving test. Selection of measurement points was made by the criterion of the highest share in the NEDC homologation test covering the entire field of engine operation during the performance test on a chassis dynamometer. The studies used the energy share of gas due to gas injector opening time – 2ms. Smoke opacity were analyzed in a mass scale [mg/m3].

Opis:
A low-pressure gas supply system for dual fuel engines was designed to transport liquid natural gas from a storage tank to a dual fuel engine and gasify it during transportation. The heat exchange area and pressure drop in the spiral- wound heat exchanger, the volume of the buffer tank and the pressure drop in the pipeline of the gas supply system were calculated by programming using Python. Experiments were carried out during the proces of starting and running the dual fuel engine using this gas supply system. Experimental data show that the gas supply system can supply gas stably during the process and ensure the stable operation of the dual fuel engine. The effects of the parameters of natural gas and ethylene glycol solution on the heat exchange area of the spiralwound heat exchanger and the volume of the buffer tank in the gas supply system were studied. The results show that the heat exchange area calculated according to pure methane can adapt to the case of non-pure methane. The temperature difference between natural gas and ethylene glycol solution should be increased in order to reduce the heat exchange area. The heat exchange area selected according to the high pressure of natural gas can adapt to the low pressure of natural gas. The volume of the buffer tank should be selected according to the situation of the minimum methane content to adapt to the situation of high methane content. The main influencing factor in selecting the volume of the buffer tank is the natural gas flow. The results can provide guidance for the design of the gas supply system for dual fuel engines.

This work contains considerations on the structure of the road tractor market in Poland in the context of their types of fuel supply systems and the possibility of adapting modern dual-fuel solutions in them. The current injection solutions in most vehicles available on the market indicate the possibility of highly effective use of modern dual-fuel or RCCI fuel supply solutions.
