Opis:
For the modeling and evaluation of dual field-of-view (FOV) common-aperture dual-band imaging system performance, two factors must be considered at the same time. One is that the system must have a larger target acquisition range, and the other is that the detection range and recognition range of the system must be the same. In this paper, taking the dual FOV common-aperture visible/long-wave infrared (LWIR) imaging system as an example, the performance of the dual FOV common-aperture dual-band imaging system is modeled and evaluated using an imaging system performance model based on comprehensive resolution. Firstly, the target acquisition range of the dual FOV visible imaging system is analyzed, and the condition that the detection range is equal to the recognition range is obtained. Then, under the condition of common aperture, the target acquisition range and the relationship between detection range and recognition range of dual FOV LWIR imaging system are analyzed. The analysis results show that, under the condition of dual FOV and common aperture, when the detection and recognition ranges of the visible imaging system are equal, the detection and recognition ranges of the LWIR imaging system are not equal. When the detection and recognition ranges are close by reducing the comprehensive resolution, the target acquisition range of the dual FOV common-aperture dual-band imaging system will decrease.

Opis:
A flexible and compact coplanar waveguide feed (CPW-fed) wearable antenna is introduced for wireless wearable communications applications at the industrial scientific medical (ISM) band. The proposed antenna consists of copper, which is used as the radiation patch and ground planes printed on the same side of polyimide flexible substrate. The overall size of the antenna is 30 mm × 28 mm × 0.08 mm, the results show that the antenna can transmit and receive signals in two frequency bands of 1.89–2.67 GHz and 3.02–3.23 GHz, in which radiating properties are characterized and agree well with the simulation results. The antenna is bent in different directions to further investigate the reflection coefficient and corresponding effect on the antenna under bending. The center frequency of the antenna is slightly shifted towards higher and lower frequencies when antenna is bent in X-axis and Y-axis, respectively. Furthermore, the wearability of the antenna is verified when the antenna is placed on different parts of the human body such as wrist and chest. Hence, the proposed flexible antenna is a suitable candidate for wearable wireless communication applications.

This paper presents how machine learning techniques may be applied in the process of designing a compact dual-band H-shaped rectangular microstrip antenna (RMSA) operating in 0.75–2.20 GHz and 3.0–3.44 GHz frequency ranges. In the design process, the same dimensions of upper and lower notches are incorporated, with the centered position right in the middle. Notch length and width are verified for investigating the antenna. An artificial neural network (ANN) model is developed from the simulated dataset, and is used for shape prediction. The same dataset is used to create a mathematical model as well. The predicted outcome is compared and it is determined that the model relying on ANN offers better results.

A wideband antenna with dual band characteristic at 5.33/14.3GHz with resonating frequencies for wireless applications is presented. The strategy of the design is to introduce multiband in antenna band. Bandwidth of the antenna increases by embedding annular ring on the radiating patch and four bands are achieved by introducing coupling gap between the patches. Surface current distribution is analyzed at different resonating frequencies for understanding the radiation mechanism and effect of annular ring. The antenna parameters such as return loss, radiation pattern, gain, VSWR and group delay are discussed. The impedance bandwidth of the proposed dual band antenna at lower resonant frequency is 12.7% (simulated) and 9.8 % (measured) whereas at upper resonant frequency is 15.3 % (simulated) and 13.97 % (measured).

This paper presents a rectangular-shaped printed monopole antenna with circular polarization for Wi-Fi (2.4–2.484 GHz) and WiMAX (3.3-3.7 GHz) bands. The antenna relies on asymmetric arrangement of the patch with respect to the microstrip feed, in order to generate circular polarization. Dual-band (Wi-Fi and WiMAX) operation is enabled by inserting a slit in the corner of the ground plane. Simulation results show a bandwidth increase of 15.9% (2.2–2.58 GHz) for Wi-Fi, and of 24.16% (3.13–3.99 GHz) for WiMAX applications. Furthermore, beamwidths at the axial ratio of 3 dB equal 48˚ and 51˚ for the x-z plane and y-z planes, respectively.

Opis:
The dual-band avalanche photodiode (APD) detector based on a HgCdTe material system was designed and analysed in detail numerically. A theoretical analysis of the two-colour APD intended for the mid wavelength infrared (MWIR) and long wavelength infrared (LWIR) ranges was conducted. The main purpose of the work was to indicate an approach to select APD structure parameters to achieve the best performance at high operating temperatures (HOT). The numerical simulations were performed by Crosslight numerical APSYS platform which is designed to simulate semiconductor optoelectronic devices. The current-voltage characteristics, current gain, and excess noise analysis at temperature T = 230 K vs. applied voltage for MWIR (U = 15 V) and LWIR (U = –6 V) ranges were performed. The influence of low and high doping in both active layers and barrier on the current gain and excess noise is shown. It was presented that an increase of the APD active layer doping leads to an increase in the photocurrent gain in the LWIR detector and a decrease in the MWIR device. The dark current and photocurrent gains were compared. Photocurrent gain is higher in both spectral ranges.

This article presents the dual-band of a single patch antenna that can operate at a frequency of 2.47 to 5.04 GHz, which is available in WLANs (IEEE 802.11). The beam pattern of the antenna can be switched by changing the position of shorted-circuit points at each edge of the antenna. The advantage of the proposed antenna is that it is a simple structure which is small in size, weighs little and has an easily adjustable beam. In addition, the antenna is tested under real circumstances using the existing WLAN infrastructure. The results confirm that the signal strength can be improved when the proposed switched beam antenna is utilized.

Opis:
This article presents a low-profile and flexible dualband AMC Antenna operating at 2.45/ 5.8 GHz for wireless local area network (WLAN) on-body antenna applications using textile materials. A dual-band artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) structure with a dual hexagonal shape was used to reduce back radiation, therefore specific absorption rate (SAR), and improve the antenna performance parameters. To study the antenna/body interaction, a suitable comprehension and detailed studies of the wave propagation in the vicinity of the human arm in different meteorological conditions were carried out to demonstrate the effects of the skin condition on the antenna performance parameters. The simulation and measurement results indicate that electromagnetic communication on wet skin is viable. Acceptable SAR values were obtained, revealing that the body is well immune from the antenna electromagnetic radiation in functional wearable conditions. The proposed wearable AMC antenna provided engaging simulation and measurement results. It satisfies users' comfort and safety properties, making it a good candidate for WLAN/WBAN applications.

Opis:
This research presents a new technique which includes the principle of a Bezier curve and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) together, in order to design the planar dipole antenna for the two different targets. This technique can improve the characteristics of the antennas by modifying copper textures on the antennas with a Bezier curve. However, the time to process an algorithm will be increased due to the expansion of the solution space in optimization process. So as to solve this problem, the suitable initial parameters need to be set. Therefore this research initialized parameters with reference antenna parameters (a reference antenna operates on 2.4 GHz for IEEE 802.11 b/g/n WLAN standards) which resulted in the proposed designs, rapidly converted into the goals. The goal of the first design is to reduce the size of the antenna. As a result, the first antenna is reduced in the substrate size from areas of 5850 mm2 to 2987 mm2 (48.93% approximately) and can also operates at 2.4 GHz (2.37 GHz to 2.51 GHz). The antenna with dual band application is presented in the second design. The second antenna is operated at 2.4 GHz (2.40 GHz to 2.49 GHz) and 5 GHz (5.10 GHz to 5.45 GHz) for IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n WLAN standards.

The paper presents a dual-band plasmonic solar cell. The proposed unit structure gathers two layers, each layer consists of a silver nanoparticle deposited on a GaAs substrate and covered with an ITO layer, It reveals two discrete absorption bands in the infra-red part of the solar spectrum. Nanoparticle structures have been used for light-trapping to increase the absorption of plasmonic solar cells. By proper engineering of these structures, resonance frequencies and absorption coefficients can be controlled as it will be elucidated. The simulation results are achieved using CST Microwave Studio through the finite element method. The results indicate that this proposed dual-band plasmonic solar cell exhibits an absorption bandwidth, defined as the full width at half maximum, reaches 71 nm. Moreover, It can be noticed that by controlling the nanoparticle height above the GaAs substrate, the absorption peak can be increased to reach 0.77.

Opis:
Current advances in type-II superlattice (T2SL) research at Fraunhofer IAF are elaborated on in this paper. First, the use of metastructures for quantum efficiency (QE) enhancement in the longwave infrared (LWIR) is presented. Finite element modelling results are reported on that suggest a potential for doubling of the QE at certain wavelengths with the investigated device structure. Next, characterisation results of midwave infrared (MIWR) InAs/InAsSb T2SL nBn detectors are shown. The low, diffusion-limited dark current above 120 K and a QE of 60% are comparable to the state-of-the-art. Finally, groundwork for InAs/GaSb T2SL MWIR/LWIR dual-band detector arrays based on a back-to-back heterojunction diode device concept is presented. The dry etching technology allows for steep etch trenches and full pixel reticulation with a fill factor of about 70% at 12 μm pitch. The detector characterisation at 77 K and ±250 mV bias demonstrates the bias-switchable operation mode with dark current densities of 6.1·10ˉ⁹ A/cm² in the MWIR and 5.3·10ˉ⁴ A/cm² in the LWIR.
