Opis:
The article presents a mathematical model describing the operation of a piston pneumatic air engine. Compressed air engines are an alternative to classic combustion solutions as they do not directly emit toxic exhaust components. In the study, a modified internal combustion piston engine was adopted as pneumatic engine. The mathematical model was divided on the two subsystems, that is, mechanical and pneumatic. The mechanical subsystem describes a transformation of compressed air supply process parameters to energy transferred to the piston and further the conversion of the translational to rotary motion; in turn, in the pneumatic part, the lumped elements method was used. Calculations were carried out using the Matlab-Simulink software, resulting in the characteristics of external and economic indicators. The presented mathematical model can be ultimately developed with additional elements, such as the intake or exhaust system, as well as timing system control.

Opis:
Engines powered by compressed air as a source of propulsion are known for many years. Nevertheless, this type of drive is not commonly used. The main reason for not using commonly is the problem with the low energy density of the compressed air. They offer a number of advantages, primarily focusing on the possibility of significantly lowering the emissions of the engine. Their emissivity mainly depends on the method of obtaining compressed air. This also has an impact on the economic aspects of the drive. Currently there are only a few, ready to implement, compressed air powered engine solutions available on the market. A major advantage is the ability to convert internal combustion engines to run with compressed air. The study provides a literature review of solutions, focusing on a multifaceted analysis of pneumatic drives. Increasing vehicle approval requirements relating to their emissions performance are encouraging for the search of alternative power sources. This creates an opportunity for the development of unpopular propulsion systems, including pneumatic engines. Analysing the works of some researchers, it is possible to notice a significant increase in the efficiency of the drive, which may contribute to its popularisation.

Opis:
This paper briefly describes the current requirements which machine tool ball screws must meet and indicates the need for the modelling and numerical simulation of the latter. The structure of a holistic ball screw model and ways of modelling the properties of the ball screw in a turning centre, including the moving heat sources on the guides and in the screw-nut joint, are presented. The results of computing the heating up and displacements of a preloaded screw and the screw without preload are reported. The modelled changes in motion resistance and in displacements are shown to be in agreement with the results of measuring the current drawn by the drive’s motor. It is also shown that the models represent well the real physical phenomena occurring in the ball screw during the execution of repeatable work cycles by the drive.

Opis:
The structures of modern traction vehicles are based on new generation devices. Technical progress within the field of power transmission concerns such elements as sources of power supply, electric devices and energy electronic solutions in power transmission systems. The prototypes of traction vehicles being currently drawn up are hybrid vehicles using different kinds of sources of power supply ofpower transmission systems, the most important of which are combustion engines, contact systems, supercapacitors (ultracapacitors), accumulators and fuel cells. Main engines are usually electric machines. In energy electronic starting systems it is permissible to use all kinds of main electric engines, for example, direct-current motors (inline engines, commutator motors with permanent magnets or non-commutator motors) or three-phase motors of alternating current (induction and synchronous). This means a complete change of rules in energy managing in a vehicle. Sources of energy can have the function of basic power supply (contact system, combustion engine or combustion cell) or the function of power supply support (supercapacitors, accumulators or fuel cell). New functions of drive operation will be available, namely, leveling of basic power supply load, recuperation of braking energy of the whole train set, driving at the temporary disconnection of basic power supply (short-term application of accumulator as basic power supply). Each of the above functions can contribute to the improvement of watt-hour efficiency of the system or to prolonging the range of driving. Therefore, it is necessary to undertake research on new generation power transmission systems. Research tasks focus on measurement of state variables of a drive, analyses of traction signals, modeling of drive operation in the conditions of driving cycle realization, verification of a model, drawing up a strategy of energy management in order to achieve the best watt-hour efficiency and the range of driving. In the article presented, sample results of researches on applications of hybrid power transmission systems conducted in various national research centers will be demonstrated. They concern both theoretical research (model simulation) and prototype research. The conception will be presented of a laboratory station for conducting research on modern sources of power supply and drives, which is currently being built at the Faculty of Transport of Warsaw Polytechnic at the Division of Exploitation of Tracking Systems and Electric Equipment in Transport.

Opis:
The influence of liquids contained in hydraulic pipes of drives of heavy metallurgical machines, e.g. forging hammers and presses, on reduced mass and system dynamics and forces and moments of reaction for surroundings, was investigated in the paper. Most of these calculations were performed on the bases of the volumetric flow rate only, without knowing the rate distribution on the pipe cross-section. Investigations included hydraulic pipes of variable diameters and arbitrary pathways in the space, for the stationary and non-stationary flows.
W szeregu maszyn ciężkich stosowanych w hutnictwie, szczególnie hydraulicznych pras i młotów kuziennych, zasadnicze znaczenie dla przebiegu procesu roboczego posiada ciecz zawarta w układzie napędowym.
