Opis:
One of the latest topics in construction concerns the difficulty of producing faultless drill holes in parts made of composite and sandwich materials. At the Institute for Machine Tools of the University of Stuttgart, a prototype of an adaptronic drilling spindle for a machining of components made of homogeneous and inhomogeneous materials was developed within the framework of a research project, funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. The spindle made it possible to limit the axial force and the torque acting on the tool, thus protecting the tools and the workpieces from any possible damage. The tests carried out with the spindle prototype proved that the axial feed force acting from the spindle can be reliably controlled by means of the developed spindle. It might be possible to restrict critical machining situations arising due to the removal of drill chips or the reduction of process temperatures.

Opis:
Test−drilling predation by cassid gastropods on minute clypeasteroid echinoids has been studied in the fossil assemblage of the Heterostegina Sands (middle Miocene, Holy Cross Mountains, Poland). The analysed prey, collected from two sublithofacies of the Heterostegina Sands (coarse−grained Heterostegina Sands and fine−grained Heterostegina Sands), represent three species of Echinocyamus (E. linearis, E. pusillus and E. pseudopusillus). The drill holes were produced presumably by one cassid species, Semicassis miolaevigata. The investigation showed that drilling predation intensities varied among the prey species. Within both fine− and coarse−grained sands, E. linearis was drilled more frequently than E. pusillus. An intermediate value of drilling predation was recognised for E. pseudopusillus. The intensities of drilling predation recognised for some of the prey species (E. pusillus) varied also between (but never within) the sublithofacies. Drilling predation was both size− and site−selective. Larger individuals of E. linearis and E. pusillus were attacked more frequently and the aboral side of the test of all Echinocyamus species was drilled preferentially. An extremely high concentration of drill holes was observed in the apical disc and petals. Results obtained for the most abundant prey (E. linearis) indicate that the predatory behaviour of large cassids was somewhat different from those typical of small cassids. Large cassids drilled and consumed their prey almost always individually, whereas small cassids sometimes preyed upon the urchins in a group. Large cassids displayed also a higher site−selectivity. They more frequently drilled in the petals and apical disc. The patterns of drilling predation were most likely controlled by the potential energetic value of prey (measured by the internal volume/test thickness ratio), prey and predator mobility, prey mode of life, thickness and porosity of the prey's tests, as well as by the proportions between the size of the prey and size of the predator. The results suggest that the mode of life of the prey and its test structure can influence the drill hole morphology.

Opis:
The analysis of shell-drilling predation by naticid gastropods on molluscs from the Korytnica Clays (Middle Miocene, Holy Cross Mountains, Central Poland) has focused on the bivalve Corbula gibba and gastropods Natica tigrina and Hinia restitutiana. The results indicate that predatory behaviour of naticids varies depending on the size of the predator. When drilling corbulids, large naticids displayed higher site-selectivity than smaller naticids. Also, large naticids drilled energetically attractive prey (Hinia restitutiana and Natica tigrina) more frequently than small naticids. Preferential drilling displayed by large naticids from the Korytnica Clays increases the net energy gain for the predator and in result allows it to drill more effectively.
Duże Naticidae znacznie częściej niż małe atakowały H. restitutiana i N. tigrina (Fig. 2A, B), natomiast małe Naticidae częściej niż duże atakowały C. gibba (patrz Fig. 1A—D oraz porównaj sumę NLR i NLL z NSR i NSL w Tabeli l).

Opis:
This paper presents structural solutions for guiding a single-sharp barrel drill blade during deep hole drilling, and it analyzes the structural and technological problems associated with two modes of inserting the drill into the processed material in the first stage of drilling – with the use of a pilot hole or a guide sleeve. The kinematics of the object-tool system (P-N) and other technological parameters affecting the execution of pilot holes under strictly defined conditions were analyzed during deep drilling with barrel drills in the FNE 40NC AVIA vertical numerical milling machine. Performance tests involving two types of cooling-lubricating agents, Milpro HG12 oil with and without the addition of ultra-dispersive copper particles and copper oxides (0.05 ÷ 0.6 µm) and Panther GP-1 additive (PWPH PantherOil Poland), applied in a 1:100 ratio, were described. The wear of the barrel drill blade along the entire drilling path (Lw = 8,000 mm) for 112 holes, and the geometric wear coefficient Kw of the drill bit were determined in 1.0503 steel with the use of EB80 drills made of K15 cemented carbide (WC 94%, Co 6%) with a diameter Dc = 8 mm. The results of wear tests were compared with the results of tribological tests involving cooling lubricants and 1.0503 steel with the chemical composition of K15 tungsten carbide. The abrasive wear of friction pair and the performance of the barrel drill blade during deep hole drilling were analyzed under identical conditions.

Opis:
In the Czech Republic the electrical energy and heat from geothermal energy can be generated with the use of Engineering/Enhancing Geothermal System (EGS). In this case a downhole heat exchanger is performed to a depth at which the temperature of the rock mass is at least 150–160°C or more, preferably about 200°C. Taking into account the geological conditions in the Czech Republic, such temperatures can be ob- served at about 5000–6000 m of depth. The site of a pilot project of geothermal electrical energy production was selected on the basis of the analysis of deep-seated geological structures in the Czech Republic, i.e. area of crust faults in the Ore Mountains Erzgebirge. The selected geological units consist of the Ore Mountains Fault and Central Bohemian Uplands, which are part of the Ohersky Rift Valley. Two deep research wells are planned in that area, with detailed geological, geophysical and geothermal analyses, including laboratory analyses of sampled rocks (cores).

Opis:
The paper refers to the investigation of various non-project operating modes that can occur during the operation of the gas pipeline transmission system. The only method of research is mathematical modeling since the study of accidents and emergency situations in real pipeline is unacceptable. Therefore, in order to carry out the set tasks, mathematical modeling and computer simulation of the gas pipeline system and processes that can cause accidents in its work were applied. As an object of study area was taken a hypothetical gas pipeline transportation system with the possibility to research its unsteady processes arising from the sudden closing of valves, emergency gas leak, the appearance of illegal gas extraction, connecting or disconnecting of looping etc. A mathematical model of the system is based on the classical equations of unsteady gas flow, continuity and energy together with the equation of state of a real gas, which form a closed system. Boundary value problem is selected according to the operating conditions. The obtained results allow us to generalize the findings of a significant impact of location of a gas leak or its extraction for the period of its discovery and the rate of change of the gas flow mode in the pipeline.
