Opis:: The author examined the systemic affiliation, morphology, occurrence and significance of the damage incurred in historical monuments by the death-watch beetle (Anobium punctatum De Geer). The article discusses the possibility of reducing local death-watch populations in wooden buildings by resorting to parasites and predatory insects, and describes the characteristic reactions of the deathwatch larvae to certain poisons contained in wood protection agents and physical factors used for combating the pest. Emphasis is placed on the absence of suitable research concerning pertinent wood protection agents, discernible during last decade.

Opis:: The aim of this paper was to compare the species composition of mites in dust samples collected at different compartments of human dwellings of north-western (NW) Poland. In 30 urban apartments (Szczecin, Police, Pyrzyce and Łobez) and rural quarters (Przelewice, Brzesko Szczecińskie, Bylice, Krasne, Kąkolewice, Wierzchowo, Przeradz, Kłodzino) from NW Poland, 150 samples of dust were collected at 5 locations: bed area, bedroom carpet, sitting area in the living room, hall carpet, and kitchen floor. Mites were isolated using Berlese-Tüllgren extractors. The isolated dust mites belonged to the order Astigmata, families Pyroglyphidae: Dermatophagoides farinae Hughes, 1961, Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (Trouessart, 1987), Euroglyphus maynei (Cooreman, 1950) and Hirstia Hull, 1931; Chortoglyphidae: Chortoglyphus arcuatus (Troupeau, 1879) and Glycyphagidae: Gohieria fusca (Oudemans, 1902), Lepidoglyphus destructor (Schrank, 1781), and the order Prostigmata, family Cheyletidae: Cheyletus (Latreille, 1796). The most frequently observed were the species D. farinae (58.9%) and the representatives of the genus Cheyletus (30.6%). Statistically significant differences were found between: the number and concentration of D. farinae in the dust collected from beds in the bedroom and dust from the carpet in the bedroom, living room, hall and kitchen; the number of D. farinae in samples from the carpet in the bedroom and from the kitchen floor; the number and concentration of D. farinae in the dust from the living room and the dust in the hall and kitchen; the number of Cheyletus sp. in samples of dust from bed areas in the bedroom and the samples from the carpet in the bedroom, hall and kitchen; the number and concentration of Cheyletus sp. in dust samples collected from the carpet in the bedroom and samples from the kitchen; the concentration of Cheyletus sp. in dust collected from bed areas and samples from the floor in the hall and kitchen; the number of D. pteronyssinus in dust samples collected from bed areas in the bedroom and samples from the carpet in the bedroom. In conclusion, the number of mites D. farinae, D. pteronyssinus and Cheyletus sp. depended on the place where the mites were sampled. The greatest numbers of these species were observed in the bed areas in bedrooms. The tests confirmed the high occurrence of house dust mites in the apartments in north-western Poland, especially in the bed areas in the bedroom.

Opis:: Dust mite allergens are common factors causing bronchial hypersensitivity in children with diagnosed bronchial asthma. As one of the main type of allergens in the domestic environment, they take a signifi cant part in this process. The authors studied the severity of bronchial asthma (according to GINA 2006) of 16 children and teenagers with confi rmed allergy to mites, who lived in the city situated in Upper Silesia, in correlation to acarofauna of their dwellings. Mite species, their number in 1 g of dust and guanine concentration in 1 g of dust (Acarex test) were examined in 57 house samples from 16 houses or fl ats. The dominant species were Dermatophagoides farinae and D. pteronyssinus; other species of mites, such as: Euroglyphus mayenei, Gymnoglyphus longior, Acarus siro, Tyrophagus putrescentiae, Lepidoglyphus destructor, Lepidoglyphus fustifer occurred only sporadically. There was no correlation found between the severity of bronchial asthma and the level of exposure to mite allergens from household environments in the studied group of mite-sensitive children and teenagers.
U dzieci z astmą oskrzelową alergeny roztoczy kurzu domowego są często czynnikami powodującymi nadreaktywność oskrzeli. Jako jedne z głównych alergenów w środowisku domowym mają w tym względzie duże znaczenie. Autorzy poddali analizie stopień ciężkości astmy oskrzelowej (wg GINA 2006) u 16 osób w wieku rozwojowym mieszkających w mieście na Górnym Śląsku), wykazujących alergię na roztocze, w odniesieniu do akarofauny kurzu z ich mieszkań. Pod uwagę wzięto gatunki roztoczy, ich liczbę w 1 g kurzu oraz stężenie guaniny w 1 g kurzu (Acarex test). Dominującymi gatunkami były D. farinae i D. pteronyssinus, a inne gatunki roztoczy (Euroglyphus mayenei, Gymnoglyphus longior, Acarus siro, Tyrophagus putrescentiae, Lepidoglyphus destructor, Lepidoglyphus fustifer) występowały sporadycznie. Nie stwierdzono zależności stopnia ciężkości astmy oskrzelowej od stopnia narażenia na alergeny roztoczy w środowisku domowym osób objętych badaniem.

Opis:: Na podstawie zapisów Dyrektywy 2005/32/ WE Parlamentu Europejskiego i Rady wprowadzono harmonogram wycofywania z rynku nieefektywnych energetycznie źródeł światła. Ponadto w Rozporządzeniu Komisji (WE) nr 244/2009 określono wymagania stawiane bezkierunkowym źródłom światła do użytku domowego. Wprowadzone zmiany wymuszą na użytkownikach oświetlenia w gospodarstwach domowych zastąpienie tradycyjnych żarowych źródeł światła lampami o wyższej wydajności energetycznej.
Based on Directive 2005/32 / EC of the European Parliament and the Council of 6 July 2005, establishing a framework for the setting of eco-design requirements for energy-using products was introduced the schedule of withdrawing from market energy ineffective light sources. In Decree of Committee No. 244/2009 with day 18 March 2009 r. was defined requirements in relation to the non-directional lamps for home use. The introduced changes will extort on users of lighting in home farms the replacement the traditional light sources of light the lamps with higher energy efficiency.

Opis:: Households which are the essential participants in the economic system, are also an important part of the real economy. Specific location and scale of the impact of households on the financial system supports the validity of a detailed analysis of the factors and determinants of household attitudes to risk and to insurance for both property and personal insurance. Decisions taken by the households in the area of insurance are often the result of risk-taking by members of the household, which is a non-economic conditionality, but deeper analysis shows that the dominant factor is the value of the income of the household members and the potential value of the losses that may arise both in estate property and personal goods of household members. Empirical studies conducted on a representative sample of households in the Silesia province indicated that often are concluded personal insurance, although the risk identification made by households is focused more on estate property. This means that the insurance protection of property household goods, despite the identification of risk is not sufficiently realized.
