    The aim of the paper is to present and analyse the intersection between men, masculinities and physical violence in the comparative, European dimension as this issue is still too rarely raised in the existing literature dealing with issues on both violence, and men and masculinities. The presented findings result to a large extent from research conducted by an international team of researchers within the PROGRESS The Role of Men in Gender Equality project (2011–2012). The paper presents analysis regarding connections between perpetration of violence and the character of traditional, hegemonic masculinity; data on the scale and types of violence perpetrated and experienced by men from different European countries; analysis of the position of men as a victims of (physical) violence; and a presentation of the forms of men’s (social) activism against (male) violence.

    The article discusses  domestic violence as  dangerous, unlawful and violent conduct, which currently threatens a generation of seniors. The author stresses the need for primary prevention of  domestic violence in the context of the education of seniors, at the University of the Third Age. In the text we present the content focus of  preventative lectures to the target group of seniors. In connection with the content of primary prevention is highlighted to the opportunity to help the victims of domestic violence through the association for assistance to victims of crime „Bílý kruh bezpečí“. On the basis of the exploratory investigation, in the text there where presented the views at the seniors on the issue of the domestic violence.

    Artykuł zawiera omówienie nowych rozwiązań w zakresie zwalczania przemocy domowej, tj. przewidzianego w ustawach o Policji oraz o Żandarmerii Wojskowej natychmiastowego, tymczasowego nakazu opuszczenia mieszkania przez osobę stosującą przemoc oraz zakazu zbliżania się do mieszkania i jego najbliższego otoczenia. Przedstawione zostały również rozwiązania z zakresu procedury cywilnej w postaci tzw. sądowego przedłużenia zakazu zbliżania się. Oprócz wprowadzonych ustawą z 30.04.2020 r. nowatorskich rozwiązań dokonana została analiza kolejnych – o analogicznej konstrukcji – narzędzi ochrony, zawartych w projekcie nowelizacji Kodeksu postępowania cywilnego (UD297). Poza analizą dogmatyczną de lege lata oraz de lege ferenda artykuł zawiera analizę wdrożenia ustawy, wskazuje na czynniki warunkujące skuteczność wspomnianych nowych narzędzi, a także dokonuje ewaluacji pierwszych miesięcy jej stosowania oraz podkreśla istotne znaczenie koordynacji i współpracy różnych podmiotów jako istotny czynnik warunkujący efektywność regulacji antyprzemocowych.
    The article describes new solutions in the field of combating domestic violence in the form of an immediate, temporary order for the person using domestic violence to leave the apartment, as provided for in the Act on the Police and the Military Police, and a prohibition on approaching the apartment and its immediate surroundings. There are also described the solutions in the field of civil procedure in the form of the so-called judicial extension of the restraining order. In addition to the innovative solutions introduced by the Act of 30 April 2020, an analysis was made of other, similarly constructed protection tools included in the draft amendment to the Code of Civil Procedure (UD297). Apart from the dogmatic analysis de lege lata and de lege ferenda, the article contains an analysis of the implementation of the act, pointing to the factors determining the effectiveness of the aforementioned new tools, and evaluating the first months of its application and indicates the significant importance of the coordination and cooperation of various entities as an important factor determining the effectiveness of anti-violence regulations.

    Głównym celem badań było określenie cech osobowości i kompetencji społecznych wyjaśniających różnice pomiędzy grupami, a zarazem umożliwiających dokonanie klasyfikacji do grupy ofiar przemocy domowej. Kolejnym celem było udzielenie odpowiedzi na pytanie, które cechy osobowości przewidują kompetencje społeczne kobiet doświadczających przemocy domowej od swojego partnera. Grupę badawczą stanowiło 30 kobiet doświadczających przemocy domowej od swojego partnera, tyle samo osób znalazło się w grupie kontrolnej. Do pomiaru zmiennych psychologicznych wykorzystano dwa narzędzia standaryzowane: Inwentarz Osobowości NEO-FFI oraz Kwestionariusz Kompetencji Społecznych KKS. Na podstawie analizy dyskryminacji stwierdzono, że wysoki poziom neurotyzmu determinował przynależność kobiet do grupy ofiar przemocy domowej. Poza tym osobowościowymi determinantami kompetencji związanych z ekspozycją społeczną okazały się ekstrawersja i neurotyczność. Asertywność była determinowana przez poziom neurotyczności. Bliskość interpersonalna była przewidywana przez sumienność.
    The main goal of the research was to determine the personality traits and social skills explaining the difference between the women experiencing domestic violence and control group and facilitating the proper classification of women to the groups of domestic violence victims. An additional goal of the study was to answer the question which personality traits predict social competence of women experiencing domestic violence. The research group consisted of 30 women experiencing domestic violence from their partner and 30 from the control group. Two standardized tools were used to measure psychological variables: Personality Inventory NEO-FFI and the Social Competence Questionnaire SCQ. Based on the discrimination analysis, it was concluded that the high level of neuroticism determined the assignment women to domestic violence victims group. Furthermore, it was found competences related to social exposure were predicted by extraversion and neuroticism. Assertiveness was determined by the level of neuroticism. Interpersonal closeness was predicted by conscientiousness.

    Przemoc w rodzinie jest zjawiskiem powszechnym, występującym na całym świecie i w każdym środowiska, bez względu na poziom wykształcenia, warunki materialne, miejsce zamieszkania, czy rasę, a nawet wyznawaną religię. Historycznie postrzegana jako problem sfery prywatnej, przemoc domowa jest obecnie uznawana za przestępstwo na tle płciowym i stanowi istotny problem zdrowia publicznego, mający wpływ na dobro ofiar, ich rodzin i społeczności. Liczne dowody wskazują, że przemoc domowa i seksualna nasilają się w okresie katastrof i pandemii. Jednym z głównych powodów nasilenia się przemocy domowej w okresie anomii jest izolacja społeczna, niestabilność ekonomiczna, utrata dochodów i związany z nią stres, a także chaos i zmiana przepisów prawa, w tym wprowadzenie blokad. Takie okresy przymusowej bliskości między partnerami wydłużają czas spędzany razem i utrudniają ofiarom przemocy domowej „ucieczkę” z domu. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie zarówno skali zjawiska przemocy w ujęciu globalnym, jak i działań podejmowanych w wybranych krajach, z uwzględnieniem Polski i Ukrainy, na rzecz ofiar przemocy domowej w czasie pandemii Covid -19. Problematyka badań koncentruje się wokół pytań: Jaka jest skala zjawiska przemocy w czasie pandemii? Jakie działania podjęły kraje na rzecz ofiar przemocy? Artykuł bazuje na metodzie monograficznej – analizie dostępnych źródeł naukowych (opublikowanych w języku angielskim, polskim i ukraińskim) opisujących diagnozowane zjawisko. Artykuł może przyczynić się do podjęcia dalszych badań i refleksji dotyczących tej problematyki, zwłaszcza w obecnej sytuacji politycznej na świecie (wojna na Ukrainie), która sprzyja zachowaniom agresywnym.
    Domestic violence is a common phenomenon all over the world and in every environment, regardless of the level of education, material conditions, place of residence, race, or even religion. Historically viewed as a private issue, domestic violence is now recognized as a gender-based crime and is a significant public health problem affecting the well-being of victims, their families and communities. Numerous evidence shows that domestic and sexual violence escalate in times of disasters and pandemics. One of the main reasons for the escalation of domestic violence during the period of anomie is social isolation, economic instability, loss of income and related stress, as well as chaos and change of legislation, including the introduction of introduction of restrictions. Such periods of forced intimacy between partners extend the time they spend together and make it more difficult for victims of domestic violence to “escape” from home. The aim of the article is to present both the scale of the phenomenon of violence in a global perspective and the actions taken in selected countries, including Poland and Ukraine, for the victims of domestic violence during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research focuses on the following questions: What is the scale of the phenomenon of violence during a pandemic? What measures have countries taken to support victims of violence? The article is based on the monographic method, an analysis of available scientific sources (published in English, Polish and Ukrainian) describing the diagnosed phenomenon. The article may contribute to further research and reflection on this issue, especially in the current political situation in the world (war in Ukraine), which is conducive to aggressive behaviour.

    Początki zainteresowania przemocą ekonomiczną na świecie przypadają na lata osiemdziesiąte XX w., ale badania akademickie na ten temat, w niewielkim zresztą zakresie, podjęto dopiero dziesięć lat później. Przemoc ekonomiczna jest zjawiskiem psychologicznym, zachowaniem mającym na celu kontrolę zdolności partnerki lub partnera do nabywania, utrzymywania i korzystania z zasobów ekonomicznych. Sprawca, obok kontroli finansowej, dąży do psychicznego uzależnienia, upokorzenia i manipulowania ofiarą w celu jej podporządkowania. Katalog działań obejmuje kilkanaście różnych zachowań przemocowych. Przemoc ekonomiczna nie pozostawia widocznych śladów i dlatego nazywa się ją „przezroczystym problemem". Pojawia się w związkach określanych jako bliskie relacje, bez względu na sytuację materialną, wykształcenie i wiek. Ofiarami tej przemocy mogą być partnerzy tworzący związek, ale także osoby niedołężne ze względu na starość lub chorobę. Polskie badania ankietowe z lat 2010 i 2014 pokazują, że sprawcami przemocy ekonomicznej są też kobiety. W wyniku tych badań opisano przede wszystkim skalę zjawiska, opierając się na analizie deklaracji respondentów sklasyfikowanych w grupach świadków pośrednich, ofiar mężczyzn, sprawczyń kobiet oraz świadków bezpośrednich.
    The idea of economic violence started to be widely discussed in 1980s but the scientific research on the issue didn’t appear until ten years later. Economic violence is a psychological phenomenon – a coercive behavior pattern intended to control the partner’s ability to acquire, maintain and use economic resources. The main purpose of an abuser is to gain and maintain power over the partner by threatening the victims’ security and ability to achieve economic independence. Various forms of economic abuse may generally coexist within the same relationship. This form of coercive behavior leaves no visible traces, and is therefore referred to as a “transparent problem”. Economic violence often takes place between people in close relationships regardless of their material status, education and age, but may also affect elderly people because of their health problems or advanced age. The results of Polish surveys conducted between 2010 and 2014 helped to highlight the scale of the problem and revealed that women are as likely to be abusive to men. The research was based on declarations of the respondents divided into the following groups: indirect witnesses, male victims, female abusers and direct witnesses.

    The paper first contextualizes femicide in the broader context of domestic violence, and homicide in the Republic of Cyprus. It then goes on to report a qualitative study of eighteen intimate partner femicide (IPF) orphans during the period 2001-2014. Findings concerning IPF, offender, and victim characteristics but also pertaining to a broad range of themes that emerged in the face-to-face interviews with the orphans are also reported and discussed. In support of theoretical notions of power and control and gender inequality, the study reported also documents of a prior history of serious conflict, physical, verbal, and psychological abuse of the IPF victim by a jealous, possessive, controlling, and oppressive violent male partner or ex-partner. Evidence is provided of the tragic inability of the authorities to heed numerous warning signs and threats-to-kill by the offender and so avert such murders. Finally, attention turns to the policy and research implications of the findings with emphasis on lethal domestic violence prevention and better support of the orphans involved.

    Almost 25 percent of persons have experienced at least one form of violence in their lifetime, and simultaneously 75 percent of them never seek assistance in any institution and do not believe that such assistance could be effective. The Supreme Audit Office, on its own initiative, conducted an audit whose main objective was to evaluate the effectiveness of the assistance measures provided to domestic violence victims. The audit covered the period between the year 2012 and the first half of 2015, and focused on the availability of specialist counselling, such as: medical, psychological, legal and related to family issues. The audit also examined the availability of safe shelter for victims. The regularity and effectiveness of plans developed for victims were also subject to the audit, as well as the measures taken against the perpetrators of domestic violence.

    Opis:
    The domestic violence called the family violence is any kind of the deliberate behaviour connected with the taking advantage from the force predomination directed against the family member which violates the family member's rights and results in physical and psychical suffering. The violence is a kind of pathology. Simultaneously, the domestic violence is a crime, but most of its victims are not aware of the fact that this behavior pattern is rooted in their families. They allowed to be abused as well as they permit the child abuse and treat it as normal. The examinations conducted amongst the domestic violence victims show that the victims act unconsciously according to the stereotypes and thought schemes repeated from generation to generation. There are many forms and methods of the violence victims’ assistance, but the efficiency most of all depends on the reaction time of the adequate services and their assistance. Therefore, the construction of the assistance net for the domestic violence victims is so crucial. The net should react in the adequate way as soon as it is possible. There must be the change in the society attitude towards the specialists helping the domestic violence victims as well as the change in the victims attitude. Only then the full success in carrying help to the domestic violence victims will be possible.
