Opis:
The article first presents the basic archival terminology, in particular “fond” and briefly explains characteristic features of chancery practices such as a self-contained document, a book of inscriptions, case files. The Church always paid a great attention to collecting and storing official documents created in connection with the implementation of evangelization and salvatory mission in the world. The collection of these documents grew bigger and larger as the literary culture became more common and the habit of documenting every activity in writing spread, which on a large scale occurred only in the Middle Ages. This is how the church archives were created, initially as repositories of documents. Archives in the modern sense, that is, academic institutions which collect documents relevant to understanding and study of the past appeared in the Polish land only at the end of the 18th century. Most of the Polish dioceses organized their archives in the interwar period and monasteries only after the Second World War. The Centre (Institute since 2006) for the Church Archives Libraries and Museums (established in 1956) together with the coorganizer of the Centre, the Rev. prof. dr hab. Stanisław Librowski, played an important role in the development of church archives in Poland.

Opis:
Diecezja Koszalińsko-Kołobrzeska powstała w 1972 r. 40 lat później erygowano archiwum diecezjalne, które rozpoczęło gromadzenie archiwaliów z diecezji. Zgromadzenia zakonne po 1945 r. podjęły trud pracy pośród przesiedlonej ludności na Ziemiach Zachodnich i Północnych. Dokumenty dotyczące ich działalności znajdują się w dwóch kościelnych archiwach, diecezjalnym i kurii biskupiej.
The Koszalin-Kolobrzeg (Kołobrzeg) Diocese was established in 1972. A diocesan archive was established 40 years later and the diocese documents have been collected since then. Religious congregations took a burden to work among the resettled population in the Western and Northern territories after 1945. All documents relating to their ministry can be found in two churches and diocese archives, and as well in the Bishop’s Curia.

The author’s ancestors lived in Uniejów and its region as early as the end of the 18th and in the 19th century. The ascendents of his mother living at the turn of the 18th century were sheep-farmers, of whom the Wiśniewski family lived first in Brudzew, and then their son Marcin in Milejów. The Rosiński family lived in Uniejów and later in Czepów Górny and Chorzepin. Their daughter Monika lived at the beginning of the 19th century in Rożniatów in Wielenin parish, and then moved with her husband Marcin to Zieleń near Spicymierz, where their daughter was born. The ancestors of the author’s father were burghers. The Krąkowski family lived in Wilamów in the years 1857−1863. In 1859 Antonina Krąkowska married Julian Godziński in Wilamów. Later the above mentioned families left the region of Uniejów.

Opis:
Military archives of the French Army at Vincennes retain many documents of the Napoleonic war. Some of these documents relate to Poland and Lithuania. The military intelligence reports have sometimes been subject to the forests. The article presents the analysis of three of these documents. The two reports on the forests of Lithuania and a forestry part of a report of General Sokolnicki. These documents hitherto unknown, are an interesting testimony on the forests in Poland and the French know about them in the early nineteenth century. It is also an interesting contribution to understanding the role of forests in the military policy of the time.

The article presents Joseph Decaisneʼs Polish correspondents in light of documents preserved at French Institute and National Natural History Museum in Paris. Decaisneʼs correspondence with Willibald Besser and Antoni Andrzejowski, of the Lyceum of Krzemieniec, is discussed. It is important for the history of the Krzemieniec Botanical Garden, and for learning about Ukrainian flora. The letters of Ignacy Rafał Czerwiakowski, Edward Janczewski and Antoni Rehmann contain much information about the work of the Krakowian botanists together with the Jardin des Plantes, but also valuable information about the history of Darwinism in Poland, and the acclimatisation of fruit trees in Poland. Edward Strasburgerʼs correspondence is an interesting contribution in learning about the early years of emigration of the academic. There are also a few letters sent to Decasisne by senders who were not naturalists, but contacting him with various requests.

A lot can be learned on Greater Poland’s coin hoards from archival resources stored in museums. The paper discusses the contents of 4 completely preserved sets of records containing documents related to the functioning of the department of coins and medals in the German museum in Poznań, which existed in the years 1894–1918. From 1903 it was called the Kaiser Friedrich Museum in Posen. Both heads of the German museum—first, Dr Franz Schwartz (1864–1901) and from 1903 Prof. Dr Ludwig Kaemmerer (1862–1938)—were interested in the acquisition of numismatic specimens, including finds. Thanks to these heads, an effective procedure was created, which included searching for information on finds in the press, with the help of the offices and agencies of the Prussian state and from among the population of the province. This was applied thanks to many years’ beneficial cooperation with activists of the German Numismatic Society, with special reference to Heinrich Grüder, Hans Balszus and Dr Hugo Moritz. The procedure included the verification of press reports, travels to find places of deposits, talks to the discoverers and the owners of land where discoveries were made, examinations of the contents of deposits, their identification and the publication of the hoards’ contents in the regional specialist press. The most abundant set of documents is devoted to the methodical, systematic and active search for hoards of coins discovered in the then Province of Poznań, carried out by the management of Poznań’s museum. Documents reveal the scope of numismatic interests of the persons who managed the museum and their methods of work. They allow for an insight into the acquisition policy and the quality of the collection; furthermore, they provide data on the sums spent on numismatic specimens. Based on these, it is possible to state that the managers of the museum were interested in creating an assemblage of coins and medals related to the Province of Poznań, that is, first of all Polish coins and coins related to Poland. Thanks to the pieces of information preserved in these documents, it is possible to restore the knowledge on presently scattered deposits to scholarship and to specify the knowledge on known finds.

Antoni Wróblewski, co-founder of the Arboretum in Beńkowa Wiśnia (Fredrów) near Lwów, and later founder of the Arboretum in Kórnik, in his early years spent time in Paris, and specifically, at the National Museum of Natural History. This article adds to the many known documents regarding Wróblewskiʼs study and work in Paris. Two of his letters were found in the Museumʼs archives, addressed to the mycologist, Louis Mangin, in whose laboratory he worked for half a year. The letters regard the publication in the Museumʼs periodical a list of fungi collected by Wróblewski in the Jardin des Plantes.

Imię Františka Rut Tichý’ego (1886–1968), pseudonim Zdeněk Broman, który zajmował się tłumaczeniem na język czeski (głównie poezji) z niemieckiego, francuskiego i języków słowiańskich, bardzo dobrze znali przedstawiciele kręgów naukowych germanistów, bohemistów i slawistów. Obecnie zarówno tłumacz, jak i jego działalność należą do osiągnięć zapomnianych krzewicieli kultury słowiańskiej żyjących i pracujących w pierwszej połowie XX wieku. Autor artykułu omawia działalność Tichy’ego związaną z czeskimi badaniami białorutenistycznymi w okresie międzywojennym (niektóre z nich dotyczą okresu po 1945 roku), zwłaszcza w zakresie tłumaczeń literatury białoruskiej na język czeski (Yanka Kupala, Aleś Dudar, Arkadź Morkavka, Cishka Gartny). Po raz pierwszy opublikowano pełną bibliografię tłumaczeń Tichy’ego z języka białoruskiego (tłumaczenia zachowały się w prywatnych zbiorach archiwum literackiego Muzeum Piśmiennictwa Narodowego Pradze).
The name of Frantishek Rut Tihi (1886–1968) who gave himself the pseudonym Zdenek Broman was well known by German specialists, Czech specialists and Slavists. He was engaged in translations from German, French and the Slavonic languages into the Czech language (poetry mostly). Nowadays the author and his activity belong to the feats of forgotten propagators of Slavonic cultures who lived and worked in the first half of the 20th century. The article discusses his work devoted to Belarusian studies carried by Czech scholars in the interwar period (with some exceptions after 1945), especially the translations of the Belarusian literature into the Czech language (Yanka Kupala, Ales Dudar, Arkady Morkavka, Cishka Gartny). The bibliography of all Tihi’s translations from the Belarusian language has been published for the first time (translations have been preserved in his private resources in literary archives in Památníku národního písemnictví in Prague).
