Opis:
The paper analyzes selected apophthegms that are part of two collections: alphabetical and systematic. These texts had initially circulated in oral transmission between 330–460 AD and were written down in the mid-fifth century. In this form they are available up until today. The purpose of the analysis at hand is to try to find traces of oral transmission in the apophthegms, which has been attempted by considering the rather rich literature on oral cultures and oral transmission. The studies by E. A. Havelock, J. Goody, and W. B. Ong have proven most useful here. Oral memory in the recorded apophthegms was discerned at the level of the text itself, its form, structure, composition, the subject matter taken up, the importance of the spiritual guide, etc.

Opis:
There are abundant examples of negative assessments of cultic honors to Roman emperors by nineteenth- and twentieth-century researchers. In the minds of historians raised in modern societies, in which monotheistic Abrahamic religions usually reign supreme, this is a completely understandable a priori approach; nevertheless, it hinders a correct understanding of Roman society in antiquity. This paper examines the need to provide a complex answer to the question of whether the inhabitants of the Roman world really believed in the divinity of their rulers. A complex answer to the question can only emerge from a historical contextualization of the phenomenon under analysis, an examination of the imperial cult within the wider changes that were taking place in Roman religion at the time, and application of the necessary empathetic approach.

Opis:
The article concerns philosophical concepts created by the Czech prose writer Ladislav Klíma. This author is nowadays counted among the most interesting Czech philosophers of the 20th century. His concepts inspired creators such as Hrabal or the Czech surrealists. The article’s author presents an outline of more important Klíma’s philosophical concepts, which allow to combine the theme of man’s deification with the divine aspect of power. In the article, a vision of the world and man created by Klíma is presented, which points out a Gnostic character of his philosophical theories. The presentation regarding a definition of freedom, which in Klíma’s depiction is the basis for achieving the divine state, is of an equal importance.

Opis:
This presentation revolves around my box-assemblage, a three-dimensional body-themed artefact whose iconography is imbued with liturgical as well as profane tropes. I demonstrate how this artefact provides the female model and myself with an exilic space within which we not only re-assess concepts of alterity and subjectivity, but challenge the dominant role of male subjectivity in the western world. Its creation, a collaborative endeavour prompted by our desire to create an exclusive realm where libidinal desires are freed from societal inhibitions, starts off with our encounters in my studio. Parts of the latter’s space are then transferred into the artefact itself, together with our metonymic presences in the form of relics and simulacra of our bodies-in-pieces. The box-assemblage engenders an exilic space within itself, one characterised by liminality and in-betweenness; positioned between the sacred and profane, the tangible and intangible.By correlating her body with the divine, the box-assemblage gives this woman, as an embodiment of what I consider to be the “true other”, a trans-corporeal identity. Rather than controlling the other, the artefact provides an indeterminate space wherein the self encounters the other in a manner that initiates an equitable relationship, unhindered as much as possible by presumptive knowledge. This is aided by the box-assemblage’s underlying esthetics and dynamics which, while encouraging gender fluidity and disengagement from preconceived dogmas—a sort of reverse cognition—also enhances the experience of its deific symbolism. Ultimately, it allows us to speak through our bodies, transforming itself into a meta-narrative of our shared existences.

Opis:
The article describes the teaching of the first bishop of Poitiers on the divinity of the Son of God from a theological perspective, as described in the Holy Scriptures. His treatise, De Trinitate, has been regarded as the best book which brought calm amidst multiple controversies that arose at the time of the heresy of Arius. St. Hilary underlines that we can testify of God as merely God him-self does when teaching that his own Son is begotten and not created. The incarnation of Jesus Christ pays tribute to his divine nature. And He loses nothing with by taking our human nature. Hilary rejects the arguments of Arius, his successors, Sabellius, adoptionism, and Jews. St. Hilary, by his analyses, encourages the faithful to believe more in what is said by the Father and His Son. According to him, the believers can learn the truth about God only from God him-self. De Trinitate is a fundamental work against Arianism, and recalls that to obtain eternity one must believe that God raised up his Son Jesus from the dead, and that He himself is the Lord (Rm 10, 6-9).

Opis:
The flourishing research on the historical Jesus, which has been growing for several centuries, cannot stay without influence on systematic theology. One of the fundamental problems remains whether and to what extent it is possible to reconcile the image of Jesus emerging from historical research with the Christian dogma of the incarnation. This article attempts to answer the question of how belief in the deity of Jesus can be reconciled with the historical approach to him and to his life. The deity of Christ will be presented as a theme not independent of, but closely related to, the historical picture of Jesus. The first part will examine three approaches to the question of the relationship between the historical reconstruction of the person of Jesus and the belief in his deity. The second part will show what kind of belief in the divinity of Jesus is incompatible with the historical-critical approach to the Gospel texts and the life of Jesus. Finally, the third part will attempt to show which understanding of the divinity of Christ is compatible with the historical-critical approach. Belief in the incarnation of God in Jesus seems always possible, even in times of critical historical consciousness. The results of historical research on the person of Jesus not only do not refute such a belief, but also help to find its proper meaning.
