Opis:
Security is a critical concern for cloud service providers. Distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks are the most frequent of all cloud security threats, and the consequences of damage caused by DDoS are very serious. Thus, the design of an efficient DDoS detection system plays an important role in monitoring suspicious activity in the cloud. Real-time detection mechanisms operating in cloud environments and relying on machine learning algorithms and distributed processing are an important research issue. In this work, we propose a real-time detection of DDoS attacks using machine learning classifiers on a distributed processing platform. We evaluate the DDoS detection mechanism in an OpenStack-based cloud testbed using the Apache Spark framework. We compare the classification performance using benchmark and real-time cloud datasets. Results of the experiments reveal that the random forest method offers better classifier accuracy. Furthermore, we demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed distributed approach in terms of training and detection time.

In this paper we propose a new method of scheduling the distributed applications in cloud environment according to the High Performance Computing as a Service concept. We assume that applications, that are submitted for execution, are specified as task graphs. Our method dynamically schedules all the tasks using resource sharing by the applications. The goal of scheduling is to minimize the cost of resource hiring and the execution time of all incoming applications. Experimental results showed that our method gives significantly better utilization of computational resources than existing management methods for clouds.

In this paper a modification of Mike Cohn's test pyramid is described for adaptation during testing in distributed information processing systems which allows expanding the possibilities of testing and applying the features of such systems. Recommendations for further use of the mechanisms of modified Mike Cohn's pyramid are developed. The method of testing the user interface software of the nodes of a distributed system was improved to differ from the existing techniques by including a mechanism of simulation of its operation to allow testing of individual components of the system interface. It is shown that in comparison with end-to-end testing of user interfaces the advantages of using the mechanisms of user interface test simulators allow reducing the time spent on testing any UI service. The time is reduced by decreasing the number of simultaneous user interface services. With a small number of nodes, end-to-end testing of user interfaces is faster than simulation testing of the same user interfaces. As the number of nodes increases, the time required to test the services of a distributed system by simulation tests becomes shorter than the time required to test the same system by a traditional method.

Opis:
This paper presents a simulation of the casting solidification process performed on graphics processors compatible with nVidia CUDA architecture. Indispensable for the parallel implementation of a computer simulation of the solidification process, it was necessary to modify the numerical model. The new approach shown in this paper allows the process of matrix building to be divided into two independent phases. The first is independent from the nodal temperature values computed in successive time-steps. The second is performed on the basis of nodal temperature values, but does not require a description of the finite element mesh. This phase is performed in each time step of the simulation of the casting solidification process. The separation of these two phases permits an effective implementation of the simulation software of the casting solidification process on the nVidia CUDA architecture or any other multi-/manycore architecture. The use of GPUs nVidia for the implementation of a computer simulation of the solidification process significantly reduced the waiting time for results. In the course of computer simulations important speedup of the computations was observed.

The article deals with the issue of controlling the autonomous mobile systems. Considered are problems focusing around the use of distributed architecture controllers. In contrary to hierarchical architecture, all layers of distributed controller are operating simultaneously, and have an access to both: the sensors (receptors), as well as to the executing systems (effectors) of controlled autonomous mobile system. Simultaneous operation of all layers of the distributed architecture controller entails arising of so called action selection problem. This problem consists in continuous taking of decisions: which one of the layers, or which layers of controller, at given moment should have an influence on the movement of controlled object. Discussed is the proposal of a new solution of this problem. Presented are results of experiments with the use of mobile robot.

In this paper, we propose a distributed system for point cloud processing and transferring them via computer network regarding to effectiveness-related requirements. We discuss the comparison of point cloud filters focusing on their usage for streaming optimization. For the filtering step of the stream pipeline processing we evaluate four filters: Voxel Grid, Radial Outliner Remover, Statistical Outlier Removal and Pass Through. For each of the filters we perform a series of tests for evaluating the impact on the point cloud size and transmitting frequency (analysed for various fps ratio). We present results of the optimization process used for point cloud consolidation in a distributed environment. We describe the processing of the point clouds before and after the transmission. Pre- and post-processing allow the user to send the cloud via network without any delays. The proposed pre-processing compression of the cloud and the post-processing reconstruction of it are focused on assuring that the end-user application obtains the cloud with a given precision.

The field of remote sensing is an area of science and technology that has undergone rapid development in recent years. This paper focuses primarily on how to exploit the capabilities made available by remote sensing and how to put them to use by combining them with a sys-temic approach to design and analysis in various measurement and control applications. The emphasis is placed on high-resolution satellite and Lidar sensors – the most prevalent remote sensing technologies. Following the presentation of some general issues related to low- and high-level processing of remote sensing data, such as data dimensionality reduction, data fusion, and change detection, the paper provides examples of control-related applications of remote sensing technologies. It is argued that successful exploitation of new generations of remote sensing technologies will require extensive development of new algorithms based on a variety of approaches, such as machine vision, statistical learning, and artificial intelligence.

When it comes to designing and implementing crawling systems or Internet robots, it is of the utmost importance to first address efficiency and scalability issues (from a technical and architectural point of view), due to the enormous size and unimaginable structural complexity of the World Wide Web. There are, however, a significant number of users for whom flexibility and ease of execution are as important as efficiency. Running, defining, and composing Internet robots and crawlers according to dynamically-changing requirements and use-cases in the easiest possible way (e.g. in a graphical, drag & drop manner) is necessary especially for criminal analysts. The goal of this paper is to present the idea, design, crucial architectural elements, Proof-of-Concept (PoC) implementation, and preliminary experimental assessment of Cassiopeia framework, i.e. an all-in-one studio addressing both of the above-mentioned aspects.

Crawling systems available on the market are usually closed solutions dedicated to performing a particular kind of task. There is a meaningful group of users, however, which require an all–in–one studio, not only for executing and running Internet robots, but also for (graphical) (re)defining and (re)composing crawlers according to dynamically changing requirements and use–cases. The Cassiopeia framework addresses the above idea. The crucial aspect regarding its efficiency and scalability is concurrency model applied. One of the promising models is staged event–driven architecture providing some useful benefits, such as splitting an application into separate stages connected by events’ queues–which is interesting, taking into account Cassiopeia’s assumptions regarding crawler (re)composition. The goal of this paper is to present the idea and PoC implementation of the Cassiopeia framework, with special attention paid to its crucial architectural element; i.e., design, implementation, and application of staged event–driven architecture.

Opis:
This paper presents a novel systolic two-dimensional (2D) block finite impulse response(FIR) filter architecture using a distributed arithmetic (DA)-based multiplexer look-uptable (DA-MUX-LUT). The proposed DA-MUX-LUT architecture computes the instan-taneous partial-product using the bit vector. The switching-based LUT replaces memory-based structures and reduces hardware complexity. Block processing allows memory reuse, which reduces the number of registers to store the previous input samples. Parallel addersare substituted by a modified carry look-ahead adder (MCLA), which minimizes the delay. Moreover, a resource-sharing concept is introduced to the DA-MUX-LUT block that drastically reduces the adder requirement. The application specific integrated circuit (ASIC)synthesis results show that the proposed DA-MUX-LUT-based 2-D block FIR filter forfilter size 8x8 and block size 4 has 31.22% less delay, 28.66% less area-delay product(ADP), 37.70% less power-delay product (PDP), and occupies almost the same area thanthe existing architecture.

W pracy zaprezentowano autorski algorytm umożliwiający realizację procesu estymacji ruchu w czasie rzeczywistym przy wykorzystaniu systemów rozproszonych. Jest to algorytm należący do grupy tzw. szybkich algorytmów estymacji ruchu i umożliwia estymację ruchu z rozdzielczością poniżej jednego okresu próbkowania.
In this paper a novel scalable algorithm for real-time motion estimation dedicated for distributed systems is presented. The proposed algorithm has modular structure and provides ability to flexibly adjust the global clock-rate required for real-time processing. This is achieved using hierarchical structure of the algorithm, which assumes division of the whole motion estimation process into independent processing stages (Figs. 1, 3, 4) and introducing special mechanism for controlling the allowed number of computation cycles. The algorithm modularity provides additional profits like ability to choose various methods for each processing stage independently and scalability of the circuit structure resulting in more efficient hardware implementation. Flexible clock-rate adjustment enables real-time processing with various types of computational platforms, with special regards to distributed systems consisting of many low-performance units. An example of scalable performance of the algorithm in distributed systems is presented. In order to increase the image resolution in real-time processing the processed image is shared between many processing units (Fig. 5). An exemplary system used for evaluation was created using Digilent "Starter Boards" with Xilinx Spartan-3 XC3S1000 FPGA circuits connected with NOC (Network On Chip) (Fig. 6). In the presented implementation six Spartan-3 circuits were able to estimate motion vectors with half-pel accuracy in real-time for HD resolution (1920x1080) video sequence with 25 frames per second.

Opis:
The High Energy Physics (HEP) experiments, due to their large scale, required performance and precision, have to be controlled by complex, distributed control systems. The systems are responsible for processing thousands of signals from various sensors of different types. Very often, one of the data sources applied in such systems are visible light/infrared cameras or other imaging sensors, which provide substantial information about studied phenomena. High data throughput for camera systems require dedicated mechanisms for data collecting and processing. Moreover, the images from cameras should be also available to system operator. It needs the support from both operator panels interface and control application which should provide data in the dedicated format. The paper presents two different approaches to image distribution, processing and visualisation applied in distributed control systems. Discussed is the issue of support for cameras and image data implemented in the Distributed Object Oriented Control System (DOOCS) and an example control system designed to the needs of image acquisition system on the base of the Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System (EPICS) environment.
