Opis:
Both the United Kingdom and Hungary run ambitious nuclear power plans to keep nuclear power as an important element of their energy mixes. The objective of the analysis is to identify if there is the intent and the possibility for a different form of public engagement in shaping the nuclear future. The study builds on the comparative analysis of the cases of Hungary and the United Kingdom. The ‘communication packages’ theory serves as reference of comparison. The study finds that changing social value sets and communication technology developments create challenges to governments in securing support for the nuclear agenda. This challenge creates an opportunity for members of the public with ‘reluctant acceptance’ of the nuclear agenda. Building on global uncertainty, challenges to the prevailing political and economic status quo, together with the growing influence of social media might assist the public to become vocal in their opinions about nuclear energy.

De Montaigne’s Essays, or the apology of private life: The paper presents Michel de Montaigne’s Essays as an apology of his life on the margin of society. Montaigne lives at the time of a civil war in which he refuses to take sides; accordingly, the only thing that he absolutely expects from national government is for it to guarantee peace in the realm. His expectations of the institutional Church are similarly minimalist. Universally respected laws should safeguard public order; all those who invoke philosophical wisdom or religious revelation do is destroy that order. The truly wise ancient philosophers lived outside the polis, aware that it is not reason but common sense that forms its foundation. Having no competences to run a polity, the philosopher has no particular obligations toward it, either. And yet, even with his sceptical philosophy and egocentric personality, Montaigne does not shut himself in an ivory tower, but merely protects his privacy, the right to devote his time to himself. As any philosopher, he highly treasures friendship, which he regards as an intimate relationship, a communion of two souls merged into one. Nonetheless, he needs other people, too, even if it is only to share his thoughts with them: he needs their judgment on his own reflection. He presents this reflection in the Essays in a novel way, drawing the attention to himself, something for which he does not intend to explain himself. For he regards stupidity, including his own stupidity, as a natural human vice; his essays are designed to protect him against it, and him alone, as he will not embark on a crusade against stupidity of others. He does not make his life part of any great narrative: he lives for himself, but he does not argue that the readers of the Essays should imitate him in that. For Montaigne consistently avoids any kind of categorical moralising or viewing human life in terms of obligations.

Job burnout as a social phenomenon covers more and more groups of employees. The problem mainly affects professions of a social nature, which require constant contact with other people. Previous studies have shown that police service is classified as high-risk in the context of job burnout due to the mode and manner of work that police officers perform every day. In their work, policemen are faced with ever greater requirements regarding their competence, availability, high quality and appropriate pace of performed tasks. Therefore, in their service they are particularly vulnerable to being affected by job burnout syndrome. This article attempts to determine the extent of the phenomenon of job burnout syndrome and its causes in a group of police officers working and representing various police departments in the city of Krakow. The research was conducted on the basis of the Polish version of the Oldenburg Burnout Inventory (OLBI).

We examined the effects of gender and classroom membership on moral disengagement-cognitive justifications of detrimental conduct. Sixth-graders aged 11 to 13 years (N = 273) participated in the study. Bullying was registered using the Olweus Bully/Victim Questionnaire and moral disengagement was measured on a 14-item scale designed for this study. The study showed that moral disengagement related to bullying and varied as a function of gender, which supports the relevance of considering gender in moral education anti-bullying programs. Next, the study revealed significant differences in moral disengagement between classrooms. This finding points to the need to elucidate associations between moral disengagement and classroom characteristics.

Opis:
The immensity of the exposed news online has given everybody the chance to manipulate information; and so, confusion and misinformation transpire, and the evaluation of credibility and trustworthiness becomes intricate. In spite of the continuous efforts of various academic institutions to provide a wide array of databases and resources among learners – still the current phenomenon called fake news has become incessantly dispersing. This research has explored university students’ dis/engagement from/to fake news. Using quantitative measures, it was revealed that the students had used online platforms for communication processes and for retrieving and allocating information. Moreover, upon text mining the student responses, nearly all defined fake news as satirical with misleading and fabricated content which tends to deceive and do harm to people. Students also have a moderate view in which they scarcely believe that as they disengage from fake news, they will develop their communication skills since they learn how to fact check information before sharing it. Lastly, the content analysis has revealed various themes divulging students’ experiences of fake news and its implications to the curriculum.

Opis:
Background The goal of this paper is to verify the correlations between adaptive and maladaptive perfectionism and the selected demographic and job characteristics vs. professional burnout among medical laboratory scientists in Poland. Material and Methods The study group consisted of 166 laboratory scientists. The Polish Adaptive and Maladaptive Perfectionism Questionnaire (Szczucka) was used for testing perfectionism. The Oldenburg Burnout Inventory was used for examining burnout syndrome. Results Adaptive perfectionism was positively and maladaptive perfectionism was negatively correlated with both aspects of professional burnout: the disengagement from work and exhaustion. What is more, maladaptive perfectionism was correlated negatively with age and work experience. People in relationships have a higher level of disengagement and a higher level of exhaustion than single ones. The results of hierarchical regression analyses have revealed, after having controlled selected demographic and job factors, that a significant predictor of disengagement is the high level of adaptive perfectionism and low level of maladaptive perfectionism. In addition, a significant predictor of high level of exhaustion is the low level of maladaptive perfectionism. Conclusions Professional burnout among medical laboratory scientists is of a specific nature. The “healthier” perfectionism they reveal, the higher level of burnout they present. In this profession, lower risk of burnout is represented by those who are characterized by the lack of confidence in the quality of their actions and a negative reaction to their own imperfections associated with imposed social obligation to be perfect. The individuals pursuing their internal high standards experience burnout faster. Med Pr 2018;69(3):253–260

Opis:
This paper attempts to identify the relationship between Social media disengagement (SMD) and Social media experience (SME), perceived anonymity (PA), perceived credibility (PC) and subjective norms (SN), individual characteristics (IC) and to identify the most widely used social media network among Gen Y and Gen Z. A quantitative survey of 800 participants of Gen Y and Gen Z of Bangalore city were the respondents. A total of 532 responses were received, and the data were analyzed using SPSS. Results reveal that there is no correlation between SMD and SME, PC, PA and SN. However, the disengagement level varies across different social media networks like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. The study suggests that degree of social media activity combined with digital literacy enhances social media usage among millennials, and with improved customer engagement in social media, marketers can harness it positively to improve their product offerings and customer base. Social Media Disengagement was first studied in the Indian context and less explored compared to engagement. During the pandemic GenY and GenZ shared and cared for in the online platform, resulting in a sense of belongingness. Hence, their disengagement from social media, generates opportunities for marketers to have better connectivity.

Opis:
In the horizontal line bisection task, patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) treated with dialysis typically have an increase in the normal leftward attentional bias. It is not clear, however, whether this increased bias is related to an increase of attention toward left hemispace or impaired disengagement from left-sided stimuli. Non-demented patients with ESRD who were being treated with dialysis and demographically matched healthy controls attempted to bisect series of horizontal lines composed of two segments of unequal length and width, with the longer segment placed to the right or left. To test for the presence of a global spatial attentional bias, participants attempted to find the middle of the whole line. To test for focal attentional engagement and attentional disengagement, participants were asked to bisect only the longer segment of these compound lines. For the global condition, both patients and healthy controls were biased toward the longer segment and more so to the left. In the focal condition, when the longer segment was on the right side, both groups deviated their bisections toward the shorter segment. However, when in the focal condition the longer segment was on the left healthy controls deviated their bisection significantly more rightwards than did the patients, whereas with the longer segment on the right, the patients and healthy controls did not differ in their bias. These results suggest that the previously recognized dysfunction of the right fronto-subcortical attentional network in dialyzed patients might account for the results of the current study.

The article is an introductory attempt to find in the vocabulary of ethics and related disciplines such notions that would be able to become descriptive tools for the migrant crisis in Europe. The adopted perspective to tinker on the notions allows to traverse the narrow frames of theoretical ethics and reach for other resources. The paper contains a preliminary analysis of the notions of moral vertigo, moral panic, and moral disengagement, as well as an overview of potential benefits and problems stemming from using those terms.

The aim of the article is to review and benchmark the current concepts in the psychology of human successful aging. The diverse nature of the process of aging underlies the distinction between normal, pathological and successful aging. Psychological concepts of successful aging in humans adopt common assumption that it is possible to take certain actions substantiating optimal course of this process. At the same time a summary of approaches appropriate to particular concepts allows for their classification, which results in the separation of three specific groups of them. Their specificity may be expressed by the following terms: "lifestyle", "description" and "mechanism". This article includes characteristics of emerged groups of concepts and indicates the extent of their usefulness and limitations.
