    The aim of the article is to show the role of the adjective postsoviétique (Post-Soviet) in the construction of discursive identity of actors described with a country name or its reformulation in the French media discourse. The observation of uses of the adjective which completes a proper name or its discursive reformulation (such as état/pays/espace – state/country/space), allowed to distinguish the most common effects of the use of postsoviétique: the referential blurring, which contributes to the creation of the collective identity of the agents, the memorial character of the adjective postsoviétique, which constructs the discursive identity of agents by constantly recalling the past, as well as the appearance of the adjective in proximity to axiologically marked structures.

    Cet article s’articule autour de la notion de l’ethos des youtubeurs célèbres de France et vise à mettre en lumière la construction identitaire qui se réalise dans les actes de langage ouvrant et clôturant leur communication. La nature de ces actes dans la scène générique de YouTube nécessite une interrogation sur leur fonction rituelle, d’une part, et une analyse du stéréotypage des stratégies, d’autre part. Ces points de vue permettent de comprendre le mécanisme langagier des figures emblématiques des chaînes YouTube françaises ainsi que la relation interpersonnelle établie par leur activité.
    This article focuses on the notion of ethos of famous YouTubers from France and aims to highlight the construction of identity that takes place in the speech acts opening and closing their communication. The nature of these acts on YouTube’s generic scene requires, on the one hand, to question their ritualistic function and, on the other hand, an analysis of the stereotyping of strategies. These points of view allow us to understand the language mechanism of the emblematic figures of French YouTube channels as well as the interpersonal relationship established by their activity.

    Individuals and groups can experience different forms of social exclusion across multiple domains of social life. Owing to its multivariate nature, a generalized approach to studying exclusion has been adopted in empirical work within the field of social psychology. As such, the relational needs thwarted by various forms of exclusion tend to be accounted for by the generalized construct, the need to belong. To increase the specification of these aspects in exclusion research, the interdisciplinary approach of critical discourse analysis and related analytic tools, such as the discursive construction of identity, are used to perform a contextual and systemic analyses of the relational needs implicated in conditions of everyday exclusion. In the discourse of a sample population in Beirut, Lebanon, we aimed to show how distinct relational needs such as acceptance and fitting in can be disentangled from one another, and from the term belonging, as a higher-order concept, disambiguated in natural language. Semi- structured interviews conducted using the language of belonging methodology involved images of socio-political importance as triggers for talk that generated rich data for critical discourse analysis. This resulted in a contextual analysis of sectarianism as exclusionary and a thematic analysis of other experiences of exclusion linked to gentrification, geopolitical division and globalization. Our findings suggest that, as hypothesised, individuals employ distinct terminology when alluding to different experiences of exclusion. This illustrates the benefits of interdisciplinary methods in accounting for social phenomena more fully, and highlights the need for increased specification of generalized constructs in future empirical work on social exclusion in social psychology.

    The subject of the article concerns the issue of constructing and reconstructing national identity. The object of interest here is a sociological case study of Serbian national identity. It includes reconstruction and interpretation of in-depth interviews conducted in Serbia with the representatives of Serbian symbolic elites. The concept of symbolic elites is approached in the discussed research from Teun van Dijk’s perspective. Thus, they are individuals and groups directly involved in the production of public opinion, who have an impact on the content of publicly available knowledge, and the creation and legitimization of public discourse. The work is embedded in the methodological framework of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) and is based on the assumptions of the Discourse‐Historical Approach (DHA). In this optics, the most important thing is the historical and social context of the studied process of the discursive construction of national identity. Therefore, the conclusions also touch upon the historical, political, and social perspective of the formation of Serbian national identity. The reflection also aims at presenting the analysis from the contemporary perspective (mainly in 2008-2020). Thus, paying attention to the political divisions in Serbia and the country’s road to democratization and European integration, the discussed research study shows the comprehensive specifics of the studied national identity.

    This paper demonstrates the contribution a synthetic narrative-discursive approach can make to understanding biographical work within a research interview. Our focus is on biographical work as part of the ongoing, interactive process through which identities are taken up. This is of particular interest for people who, for example, are entering a new career and can be seen as 'novices' in the sense that they are constructing and claiming a new identity. Following a discussion of the theoretical and methodological background in narrative, discourse analytic and discursive work in social psychology (e.g. Bruner, 1990, Edley, 2001, Potter and Wetherell, 1987, Wetherell, 1998), the paper presents an analysis of biographical talk from an interview study with postgraduate Art and Design students. Our interest is in their identity work, including biographical work, as novices in their fields. The analysis illustrates the approach and the key analytic concepts of, first, shared discursive resources, such as interpretative repertoires (e.g. Edley 2001) and canonical narratives (e.g. Bruner 1991), and, secondly, troubled identities (e.g. Wetherell and Edley, 1998, Taylor 2005a) . It shows how speakers' biographical accounts are shaped and constrained by the meanings which prevail within the larger society. For our participants, these include established understandings of the nature and origins of an artistic or creative identity, and the biographical trajectory associated with it. The particular focus of our approach is on how, in a speaker's reflexive work to construct a biographical narrative, the versions produced in previous tellings become a constraint and a source of continuity.

    The article is devoted to the study of discursive identity based on autobiographical texts written by Uralmashzavod employees in the 1970s. In her methodology the author draws on Michael Foucault’s theory of discourse and Paul Ricoeur’s idea of the bilateral nature of narrative identity. In an autobiographical discourse, identity practices construct the normative subjective position of official Soviet discourse. The practices of the self are considered in the aspect of confession and frankness. It is concluded that the subjective position in the discourse is simultaneously supported by the practices of identity, and shaken by the practices of the self.

    This paper aims to establish a framework of discursive narratives about the idea of the Polin Museum of the History of Polish Jews. Most of these narrative strategies concern the implementation of this huge project, arrangement of exhibitions, topics presented and the importance of the museum for the community of Polish Jews and Poles. The qualitative analysis of the narratives is conducted based on the content of periodicals published by the Jewish community in Poland: „Midrasz. Pismo Żydowskie” and „Chidusz. Magazyn Żydowski”. The analysis involves 11 speeches given immediately after the ceremonial opening of the Museum in 2013 and later, primarily at anniversary celebrations.

    The article provides an analysis of the re-formation of the civic sphere and civil society in the postcommunist environment. Focusing on the widespread tendency to equate civil society with the organized public involvement through non-profit and non-governmental organizations, it points to tensions and conflicts that such equation brings about. It is inspired by an extensive research project, yet it also draws on two distinct theoretical perspectives in particular. Luhmann’s and Alexander’s conceptual schemes serve here to account for the relations between various components of the formation of civic identities after 1989: the specific historical situation and the modern concept of active citizenship, the organizational form of civic associations and symbolic representations of civil society, concrete relationships or organizational practices and the identity of the civic sector.

    CEL NAUKOWY: Celem artykułu jest usystematyzowanie wiedzy o narracji oraz wskazanie jej specyfiki i miejsca w kontekście badań jakościowych prowadzonych na gruncie nauk społecznych, w szczególności pedagogiki. PROBLEM I METODY BADAWCZE: Problem artykułu powiązany został z pytaniem o to, czym jest narracja i jakie może ona mieć znaczenie dla badań pedagogicznych. Poszukując odpowiedzi na tak postawione pytanie – problem artykułu – odwołano się do krytycznej analizy literatury przedmiotu, a następnie porównano zebrane wyniki po to, by na tej podstawie podjąć próbę naszkicowania naukowego waloru narracji. PROCES WYWODU: Analizę literatury przedmiotu wyznaczył hermeneutyczny kierunek rozważań: począwszy od określenia znaczenia narracji w pedagogice, poprzez przybliżenie jednej z jej głównych kategorii, czyli tzw. „autokreacji tożsamości”, do ukazania zależności zachodzących między pedagogiką społeczną a pedagogiką dyskursywną. WYNIKI ANALIZY NAUKOWEJ: W wyniku przeprowadzonych analiz zasygnalizowano naukowe znaczenie narracji w badaniach jakościowych. Znaczenie to swoją naukową legitymizację upatruje w funkcji eksploracyjnej, która skupia się przede wszystkim na wyjaśnieniach dotyczących sposobu rozumienia świata przez badanych (autorów narracji). Tym samym dowartościowuje ono humanistyczne spojrzenie na problematykę szeroko rozumianej rzeczywistości wychowawczej. WNIOSKI, INNOWACJE, REKOMENDACJE: Narracje od niedawna uczyniono przedmiotem badań w pedagogice. Mimo to obserwuje się duże zainteresowanie możliwościami, jakie niesie ze sobą ich wykorzystanie w badaniach pedagogicznych. W literaturze przedmiotu podkreśla się, że poza poprawnymi metodologicznie i ugruntowanymi teoretycznie analizami narracji zdarzają się przypadki posługiwania się nimi bez należytego namysłu, co w konsekwencji prowadzi do spadku ich wartości. W celu ograniczenia nakreślonego ryzyka w postaci banalizacji potencjału wynikającego z narracyjnego odczytywania rzeczywistości edukacyjnej postuluje się, aby w prowadzonych badaniach pedagogicznych korzystać z transparentnych i uznanych naukowo procedur. Jedną z nich może być np. metoda wywiadu narracyjnego oparta na założeniach opracowanych przez niemieckiego socjologa Fritza Schützego lub technika analizy strukturalnej, którą w Polsce promują m.in. Zbigniew Marek i Anna Walulik. Obie procedury z powodzeniem wykorzystywane są nie tylko przez czołowych przedstawicieli badań narracyjnych w Niemczech, ale coraz częściej także przez rodzimych badaczy.
    RESEARCH OBJECTIVE:The aim of the article is to systematize knowledge about the narrative and to indicate its specificity and place in the context of qualitative research conducted on the basis of social sciences, especially pedagogy. PROBLEM AND RESEARCH METHODS:The problem of the article was related to the question of what narration is and what it might mean for pedagogical research. Looking for answer for this question appealed to a critical analysis of the literature of the subject, and then compared the collected results to attempt to sketch the scientific value of the narrative. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION:The analysis of the literature has based on the hermeneutical direction of the discussion: from defining the meaning of narrative in pedagogy by approximating one of its main categories, the so-called "self-identity", to show the relationship between social pedagogy and discursive pedagogy. THE RESULTS OF SCIENTIFIC ANALYSIS:As a result of the analyzes, the scientific significance of narrative in qualitative research was reported. This significance its scientific legitimacy basic on the exploratory function, which focuses first and foremost on the explanations about the way the world is understood by the investigators (the authors of the narrative). CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS:In the literature of the subject, it is emphasized that in addition to methodologically correct and well-established narrative analyzes, there are cases of using them without proper reflection, which in consequence leads to a decrease in their value. In order to limit the potential risk in the form of simplify the potential resulting from the narrative reading of the educational reality, it is recommended that in the conducted pedagogical studies use transparent and scientifically recognized procedures. One of them may be, for example, a narrative interview method based on the assumptions developed by German sociologist Fritz Schütze or a structural analysis technique promoted in Poland by Zbigniew Marek and Anna Walulik.
