Opis:
This is a short tutorial on Volterra and Wiener series applications to modelling of nonlinear systems and phenomena, and also a survey of the recent achievements in this area. In particular, we show here how the philosophies standing behind each of the above theories differ from each other. On the other hand, we discuss also mathematical relationships between Volterra and Wiener kernels and operators. Also, the problem of a best approximation of large-scale nonlinear systems using Volterra operators in weighted Fock spaces is described. Examples of applications considered are the following: Volterra series use in description of nonlinear distortions in satellite systems and their equalization or compensation, exploiting Wiener kernels to modelling of biological systems, the use of both Volterra and Wiener theories in description of ocean waves and in magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Moreover, connections between Volterra series and neural network models, and also input-output descriptions of quantum systems by Volterra series are discussed. Finally, we consider application of Volterra series to solving some nonlinear problems occurring in hydrology, navigation, and transportation.

Opis:
The paper addresses the problem of reducibility of nonlinear discrete-time systems, described by implicit higher order difference equations where no a priori distinction is made between input and output variables. The reducibility definition is based on the concept of autonomous element. We prove necessary reducibility condition, presented in terms of the left submodule, generated by the row matrix, describing the behavior of the linearized system, over the ring of left difference polynomials. Then the reducibility of the system implies the closedness of the submodule, like in the linear time-invariant case. In the special case, when the variables may be specified as inputs and outputs and the system equations are Niven in the explicit form, the results of this paper yield the known results.

nonlinear discrete-time systems optimal passivity-based control

Opis:
In this paper, a passivity-based optimal controlmethod for a broad class of nonlinear discrete-time systems is proposed. The resulting control law is a static output feedback law which is practically preferred with respect to the state feedback law and is simple to implement. The control law has a general structure with adjustable parameters which are tuned, using an optimization method (genetic algorithm), to minimize an arbitrary cost function. By choosing this cost function it is possible to shape the transient response of the closed-loop system, as it is desirable. An illustrative ex ample shows the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Opis:
We consider the problem of joint estimation of states and some constant parameters for a class of nonlinear discrete-time systems. This class contains systems that could be transformed into a quasi-LPV (linear parameter varying) polytopic model in the Takagi–Sugeno (T–S) form. Such systems could have unmeasured premise variables, a case usually overlooked in the observer design literature. We assert that, for such systems in discrete-time, the current literature lacks design strategies for joint state and parameter estimation. To this end, we adapt the existing literature on continuous-time linear systems for joint state and time-varying parameter estimation. We first develop the discrete-time version of this result for linear systems. A Lyapunov approach is used to illustrate stability, and bounds for the estimation error are obtained via the bounded real lemma. We use this result to achieve our objective for a design procedure for a class of nonlinear systems with constant parameters. This results in less conservative conditions and a simplified design procedure. A basic waste water treatment plant simulation example is discussed to illustrate the design procedure.

The quadratic performance index in a fixed rectangle for the Roesser model of two-dimensional, linear, stationary, discrete systems is considered. Using a method of transformation for the System and the performance index, the problem of finding the optimal sequence of control vectors is solved by a method of mathematical programming. The simple numerical example illustrates the presented method.

Opis:
Numerical evaluation of the optimal nonlinear robust control requires estimating the impact of parameter uncertainties on the system output. The main goal of the paper is to propose a method for estimating the norm of an output trajectory deviation from the nominal trajectory for nonlinear uncertain, discrete-time systems. The measure of the deviation allows us to evaluate the robustness of any designed controller. The first part of the paper concerns uncertainty modelling for nonlinear systems given in the state space dependent form. The method for numerical estimation of the maximal norm of the output trajectory deviation with applications to robust control synthesis is proposed based on the introduced three-term additive uncertainty model. Theoretical deliberations are complemented with a numerical, water-tank system example.

Przedstawiono ideę skalowania czasowego odpowiedzi liniowych i nieliniowych układów dyskretnych.
The idea of time-scaling of linear and non-linear, discrete-time SISO system output signals is presented in the paper. The final block diagram of scaling is shown in Fig. 2, where A is the time scale coefficient, I is the sample number, and T is the sample time. The output γ(iA-1T) of the element "system" of Fig. 2 is slowed down (01) A-times in relation to the reference output γ(iT), where γ(iT) is the system of Fig. 1 response to the input u(i) described by (1). The "input" and "feedback" correctors (Fig. 2) are defined by algorithms presented in Sections 2, 3, 4. The system (1) can be treated as a discrete model of the continuous-time system for the sample time T. In Section 5 it is shown that the signal uA (Fig. 2) after interpolation and calibration can be used for the time-scaling of the output of the continuous system approximated by model (1). Basing on the proposed idea, one can speed up or slow down the technical system responses when preserving their reference shape. The idea of time-scaling can be applied to design of control algorithms - see example 5.1. In such a case the important properties of the obtained control system, defined in time and frequency domains (overshoot, response form, steady state error, stability margin), do not depend on A. The other ones (transient state duration time, frequency representation) depend on A, however, they can be easily determined if the reference system properties (for A=1) are known.
