Opis:
Design of control sequences for discrete event systems (DESs) has been presented modelled by untimed Petri nets (PNs). PNs are well-known mathematical and graphical models that are widely used to describe distributed DESs, including choices, synchronizations and parallelisms. The domains of application include, but are not restricted to, manufacturing systems, computer science and transportation networks. We are motivated by the observation that such systems need to plan their production or services. The paper is more particularly concerned with control issues in uncertain environments when unexpected events occur or when control errors disturb the behaviour of the system. To deal with such uncertainties, a new approach based on discrete time Markov decision processes (MDPs) has been proposed that associates the modelling power of PNs with the planning power of MDPs. Finally, the simulation results illustrate the benefit of our method from the computational point of view.

Opis:
There exist numerous modelling techniques and representation methods for digital control algorithms, aimed to achieve required system or process parameters, e.g. precision of process modelling, control quality, fulfilling the time constrains, optimisation of consumption of system resources, or achieving a trade-off between number of parameters. This work illustrates usage of Finite State Machines (FSM) modelling technique to solve a control problem with parameterized external variables. The structure of this work comprises six elements. The FSM is presented in brief and discrete control algorithm modelling is discussed. The modelled object and control problem is described and variables are identified. The FSM model is presented and control algorithm is described. The parameterization problem is identified and addressed, and the implementation in PLC programming LAD language is presented. Finally, the conclusion is given and future work areas are identified.

Opis:
The paper brings forward an idea of multi-threaded computation synchronization based on the shared semaphored cache in the multi-core CPUs. It is dedicated to the implementation of multi-core PLC control, embedded solution or parallel computation of models described using hardware description languages. The shared semaphored cache is implemented as guarded memory cells within a dedicated section of the cache memory that is shared by multiple cores. This enables the cores to speed up the data exchange and seamlessly synchronize the computation. The idea has been verified by creating a multi-core system model using Verilog HDL. The simulation of task synchronization methods allows for proving the benefits of shared semaphored memory cells over standard synchronization methods. The proposed idea enhances the computation in the algorithms that consist of relatively short tasks that can be processed in parallel and requires fast synchronization mechanisms to avoid data race conditions.

Opis:
Chatter is a series of unwanted and extreme vibrations which frequently happens during different machining processes and impose variety of adverse effects on the machine-tool and surface finish. Chatter has two main types namely forced-chatter and self-existed chatter. The forced-chatter has an external cause; however, self-exited chatter has no external stimuli, rather it is created due to the phase difference between the previous and current waves on the surface of the workpiece. Due to the self-generative nature of this type of chatter, its recognition and prevention is much more difficult. For preventing self-exited chatter its model should be available first. The chatter is usually simulated as a one degree of freedom mass-spring-damper model with unknown parameters that they should be determined somehow. In this paper, the parameters of the tool equation of motion i.e. mass, damping, and stiffness coefficients of the system are predicted through a wavelet-based method online, and then based on the achieved parameters, the system is controlled via Model Predictive Control (MPC) approach. For the validation, the algorithm is applied to 25 different experimental tests in which the acceleration of the tool and cutting force are measured via an accelerometer and a dynamometer. By investigation of the SLDs generated by the predicted parameters, the presented system identification method is validated. Also, it is shown that the chatter vibration is completely restrained by means of MPC. For investigation of the MPC performance, MPC algorithm is compared with PID controller and simulations has indicated a much stronger performance of MPC rather than PID controller in terms of vibration attenuation and control effort.
