Opis:
Scattering of sound waves in two stepped cylindrical duct which walls are coated with different acoustically absorbent materials is investigated by using Wiener-Hopf technique directly and by determining scattering matrices. First, by using Fourier transform technique we obtain a couple of modified Wiener-Hopf equations whose solutions involve four sets of infinitely many unknown expansion coefficients providing systems of linear algebraic equations. Then we determine scattering matrices of the problem and we state the total transmitted field by using generalized scattering matrix method. Numerical results are compared for different parameters.

Opis:
Studies on micro-chips formed in the process of micromachining, including grinding and microfinishing using abrasive films, were conducted. Geometric characteristics of the micro-chips were analyzed and the presence of very long chips compared to their width was observed. One also reported the presence of very high temperatures in the treatment zone despite the applied cooling, which resulted in the formation of spherical chips. The occurrence of two characteristic spherical chip structures was observed followed by evaluation of their chemical composition. Based on the tabular structure of band chips, characteristic micro-discontinuities in the microcutting process were determined.

The objective of the study was to determine the effect of litho- and pedogenic processes on soils of the selected area of Vistula Glaciation, based on profile distribution of unweathered components such as titanium, zirconium and silica in relation to their morphology, mineralogy, micromorphology and physicochemical properties. The predominant type of soilin the study area are Luvisols. Analysis of texture allowed to classify the investigated soils to sandy silts with loamy material as their subsoil. In the bulk soil silica dominates and its content was in the range 71.4 to 88.6%. The content of TiO2 within the profiles is fairy similar, without clear patterns in the profile distribution. The total content of zirconium in the samples was in range of 95.13 to 212.15 mg x kg-1. In the profile distribution of zirconium higher content of Zr was observed in the upper horizons compared to the top layerin all of theanalysed profiles, indicating different origin of soil material. Statistical analysis showed positive correla- tion between the total content of zirconium and the content of fraction 0 0.05-0.002 mm (correlation coefficient value: 0.692384; significance level - p < 0.05) and negative correlation between zirconium and clay content (correlation coefficient: -0.668157; p < 0.05). The lithologic discontinu i ty within profiles of the investigated soils has been additionally has proved by X-ray analysis of the clay fraction. The micromorphological analysis confirmed the complex genesis of the studied soils. The results of the study clearly showed an overall inhomogeneity and stratification of the soils. Studied Luvisols did not form as weath- ering product of homogeneous bedrock. Changes in granulometric and chemlcal composition within soil profiles are the consequence of translocation of clay fraction during lessivage as well as lithologic discontinul ty of the solum.

The surface geometric structure largely determine the functional characteristics of machine elements and their tribological characteristics. In this paper the influence of geometric discontinuities, such as holes and grooves on the features of surface geometric structure were presented. This impact was assessed on the basis of surface roughness measurements. The conducted experimental verification showed the influence of geometric discontinuities on the features of geometric structure of machined surface.
Struktura geometryczna powierzchni w dużym stopniu determinuje cechy użytkowe elementów maszyn i ich charakterystyki tribologiczne. W artykule przedstawiono wpływ nieciągłości geometrycznych typu otwór oraz rowek na cechy struktury geometrycznej powierzchni. Ocenę tego wpływu dokonano w oparciu o pomiary chropowatości powierzchni. Przeprowadzona weryfikacja doświadczalna wykazała wpływ nieciągłości geometrycznych na parametry opisujące strukturę geometryczną powierzchni.

Many open-cast mines in Algeria are regularly affected by instabilities that disrupt the exploitation activity, such as Chouf Amar's career where recurrent failures are caused by the combined action of a number of predisposition and triggering factors. I this study we uses a commbined-Geomechanical, Kinematical, numerical and limit equilibrium analysis to evaluate the behaviour of the discontinuous rock masses in open pit mine, and we chooses the Chouf Amar career as a case study. We determines nine main sets of discontinuities in the three main facies of the stone-pit. We proved also that the quarry suffers from various types of failures and that blasting declines the values of safety factor. We find out the causes of the 2009 slip-incident. By this combined approaches we have made it possible to optimize operations and to improve career productivity while ensuring the safety of equipment and personnel.

In this essay I intend to tell a story of media studies and mass communication research as a field, based on the work of the late Denis McQuail – and that of editing the new edition of his seminal handbook McQuail’s Media and Mass Communication Theory (McQuail & Deuze, 2020). Using McQuail’s historical storytelling method, I specifically look at the challenge for the field in the context of a global pandemic alongside an infodemic, at a time when the whole world faces the consequences of recurrent lockdowns, social distancing measures, and institutional pressures to stay at home. Media studies and (mass) communication research, while having a distinct narrative, as a field has only just begun to articulate its relevance to society – we have only just started to tell our story. Using developments in understanding the self as a research tool, the implementation of integrative research designs, and calls for engaged and public scholarship, the paper outlines challenges and opportunities for what we can do with our field.

The goal of this paper is to research the pedagogical notion of discontinuity in learning, its pedagogical importance and discover the notion of pedagogical subject that is complementary to it. Discontinuity is closely related to the idea of negativity in its existential sense. Discontinuity and negativity in learning are investigated in their various forms and meanings, in order to understand the pedagogical approach to these phaenomena. Our approach is differentiated by approaches based on “school success”, since pedagogical authors such as J.F. Herbart, J. Dewey and A. English see negativity and its pedagogical potential in an existential sense. Based on these insights, we further ask which kind of pedagogical subject can embody discontinuity and negativity in learning. We find that specific ideas of (critical) theory, (dialectical) knowledge and (critical) subject are needed for that. These ideas open often unexplored possibilities for pedagogical theory and practice.

In this paper, the effect of geometry and impedance on the acoustic behavior of wall and lined cylindrical ducts is investigated using a numerical model which enables one to compute the reflection and the transmission coefficients of such ducts using the multimodal scattering matrix. From this matrix, the acoustic power attenuation is deduced. By using these tools, the effect of duct diameter increase and duct diameter decrease of the wall or lined duct section is studied. The numerical results are obtained for two configurations of wall and lined ducts. Numerical coefficients of transmission and reflection as well as the acoustic power attenuation show the relative influence of each type of variation.

The framework of converging trajectories of macroeconomic policy initiatives is employed in the context of strategic discontinuity to study the national income of an advancing economy. A model of systemic changes based upon an equation of production and consumption is presented. In this study of the Chinese economy of 1980-2014, over time, the dynamics of policy imbalance is found to decrease considerably, which is consistent with the decreasing trend of shrinking the differences among the impact coefficients of government consumption, private investment, and private consumption.

The Gaussian mixture model (GMM) method is popular and efficient for voice conversion (VC), but it is often subject to overfitting. In this paper, the principal component regression (PCR) method is adopted for the spectral mapping between source speech and target speech, and the numbers of principal components are adjusted properly to prevent the overfitting. Then, in order to better model the nonlinear relationships between the source speech and target speech, the kernel principal component regression (KPCR) method is also proposed. Moreover, a KPCR combined with GMM method is further proposed to improve the accuracy of conversion. In addition, the discontinuity and oversmoothing problems of the traditional GMM method are also addressed. On the one hand, in order to solve the discontinuity problem, the adaptive median filter is adopted to smooth the posterior probabilities. On the other hand, the two mixture components with higher posterior probabilities for each frame are chosen for VC to reduce the oversmoothing problem. Finally, the objective and subjective experiments are carried out, and the results demonstrate that the proposed approach shows greatly better performance than the GMM method. In the objective tests, the proposed method shows lower cepstral distances and higher identification rates than the GMM method. While in the subjective tests, the proposed method obtains higher scores of preference and perceptual quality.

Georges Perec uprawiał różne formy pisarstwa autobiograficznego. Pamiętam że jest zbiorem 480 zapisów, całość oznacza nieciągłość pamięci i autobiografii. Pisarska koncepcja Pereca znalazła potwierdzenie w jednym z późniejszych tekstów Lejeune'a, który napisał, że nie wierzy już w pojedynczą autobiografię, lecz w teksty autobiograficzne.
Georges Perec's works represent a various forms of autobiographical writings. I remember is a collection of 480 records, whole book proves a discontinuity of memory and autobiography. In one of his latest works Philippe Lejeune writes he just don't believe in single autobiography, but in autobiographical texts.

The paper presents a 3D (spatial) analysis of deformation processes in the landslide slope Bystrzyca in Szymbark near Gorlice (Low Beskid – Carpathians; N 49°37′ 09″, E 21°05′ 49″) carried out by the computer code FLAC3D based on the finite difference method. The numerical analysis was performed to determine the influence of the orientation of layers and discontinuities and of hydrogeological conditions on slope deformations and the failure mechanism during sliding processes. The massif is modeled as an elasto-plastic medium obeying the Coulomb-Mohr criterion. Two variants of hydrogeological conditions are analyzed, namely the “dry slope” (without water) and the “wet slope” (entirely saturated). The influence of the orientation of discontinuities (modeled as “ubiquitous”) on the landslide mechanism is investigated as well. Few orientations of discontinuities with respect to the dip direction of the slope surface are considered, namely consequent, insequent, and subsequent (two variants in each case). The results show a clear impact of the pattern of discontinuities and hydrogeological conditions on the deformational behavior of the landslide and the shape of the slip surface. The 3D approach and results of the numerical simulation of the landslide movement prove the necessity of 3D modeling in some cases.
