Opis:
The authors summarise the main databases of written cultural heritage, used for research of book culture history in Slovakia, Czech Republic and Hungary, particularly databases including data for research of Polish books of the 16th-18th centuries. Potential of digital science and its sources for traditional book culture history research is emphasised. Authors analyse all types of Polonica in certain digitalised collections of various historical libraries in the Kingdom of Hungary from the 16th to the 18th centuries. Mutual cultural relationship of Slovakia and Poland in book culture history is also highlighted, especially for building of aristocratic and bourgeois libraries.
Autorki prezentują główne bazy danych piśmiennego dziedzictwa kulturowego używane do badań nad historią kultury książki na Słowacji, w Republice Czeskiej i na Węgrzech, w szczególności te z nich, które zawierają dane przydatne w badaniach nad polską książką od XVI do XVIII w. Autorki podkreślają potencjał jaki reprezentuje humanistyka cyfrowa i źródła przez nią wykorzystywane dla tradycyjnych badań na historią kultury książki. Analizują wszystkie typy poloników znajdujących się w niektórych zdigitalizowanych kolekcjach bibliotek dawnego Królestwa Węgierskiego istniejących od XVI do XVIII w. Naświetlają również relacje w dziedzinie kultury książki pomiędzy Polską a Słowacją, w szczególności w kontekście powstawania bibliotek mieszczańskich i arystokratycznych oraz rozwoju drukarstwa i księgarstwa w Królestwie Węgierskim.

Knowledge management is a process aimed at enriching and effectively using knowledge assets in various areas of business operations. It also applies to manufacturing enterprises that offer tangible products combining it with the art of processing information and intellectual assets into added value for the customer. A characteristic feature of manufacturing enterprises is assigning their employees a double role: a knowledge user and, at the same time, an internal source of specialist knowledge. In the situation of dynamically changing market conditions, there is an additional need to acquire new knowledge (in practice: often to buy knowledge) from the company’s environment. A solution in the above-mentioned scope in Poland may be digital repositories of science assets as tools for knowledge transfer to SMEs. Research institutes are an important element in the process of knowledge transfer from scientific units to the economy (e.g. they offer their services in open access). The paper presents the concept of such a repository preceded by a diagnosis of the existing state, an analysis of the recipients of the deposited content and the examination and analysis of the requirements of potential users of the repository.

Creating content providing systems and programming database connections, queries, and complex web platforms are primarily the tasks of information technology. However, the professional and content-related preparation of service engineering and the customisation and effective use of content providing systems belong to the librarians’ competences and therefore constitute an interdisciplinary area of our training. The so called Content Development Working Group of the Institute of Library and Information Science of the Faculty of Humanities at Eötvös Loránd University has, therefore, had a dual purpose since the mid-2000s. On the one hand, it involves future librarians in projects yielding tangible outcomes for the professional community, thus helping the students acquire competences relating to various aspects of the librarian profession through motivating and creative work. On the other hand, the working group studies and analyses the instruments of content provision, especially network-based information services. The results obtained through joint research and the display platform created are also published as a complex project, thus introducing students into the network-based forms of research support and scientific information provision. As an integral part of a modern librarian’s duties is to inform social media users of existing digital collections, within the framework of the programme we also test the effectiveness of libraries’ social media presence through short excerpts of our sample projects. Bearing all the above in mind, this paper aims to provide a detailed description of (1) the content development projects, (2) the experimental research projects and (3) the collaborative projects of the Content Development Working Group devised to enhance trainee librarians’ interdisciplinary competences. The study also highlights how the outcomes of the projects are integrated into the disciplinary (BA and MA) degree programmes of the Institute. To demonstrate the broader context of the undertaking, the study also includes a short section on the educational aspects of e-books and e-publishing and presents some of the internationally recognised results, the international connections and the future plans of the Centre for Digital Humanities founded in the Institute in 2017.

Pełni więc dziś zarówno funkcje praktyczne jak i teoretyczne . Z jej pomocą można badać i rozwiązywać pragmatyczne oraz/lub koncepcyjne problemy związane z wykorzystaniem nauk o informacji i technologii informatycznych w nauczaniu i badaniach historycznych oraz społecznym transferowaniu wiedzy o przeszłości. W artykule obok omówienia kwestii terminologicznych i problemów związanych z przedmiotem  badań historii cyfrowej  zasygnalizowano także jej najbardziej obiecujące metody badawcze oraz główne obszary zastosowań we współczesnej nauce historycznej.  Dają one  szansę na stosowanie wydajniejszych, bardziej wyrafinowanych i innowacyjnych praktyk badawczych. Following the information and communication technologies development, the new kind of interdisciplinary research has been formed and termed the digital history. It focuses on the issues regarding data processing “from and about the past”. It’s a unique link between a specialist range of historical research and a contemporary theory and practice of information use. On the one hand, the digital history helps with particular stages of the research carried out by the historian. On the other hand, owing to abilities of various communities’ integration, it can have an effect on the research organization, theory, tools and methods. Therefore, it fulfils practical and theoretical function. The digital history allows one to examine and solve pragmatic and/or conceptual problems connected with the use of information science and information technologies in teaching and historical research and social transferring of knowledge about the past. Apart from terminological questions and issues regarding the digital history, its edifying research methods and the main areas of its implementation have been discussed as well. They give a chance to implement much more productive, sophisticated and innovative practices. What is more, they require understanding the essence of transformation taking place today.

The paper offers a reading of "Mass Effect: Andromeda" (BioWare 2017) vis-à-vis lost world romance (also dubbed “lost race romance”, or “imperial romance”), a late-Victorian area novelistic genre originating from H. Rider Haggard's "King Solomon's Mines" and serving as a major tool for British Empire propaganda - and as a source of the early science-fiction conventions. We claim the narrative failure of the ill-received game stems from its adherence to the rigid principles and forceful themes of the genre and the colonial and imperial imaginary informing it. Our analysis aims at highlighting the way 19th Century novelistic convention can be remediated as contemporary digital games, and to expose the link between imperial imaginary and the way open-world digital games are structured, on both narrative and gameplay levels - even when they do not directly refer to the historical colonial legacy.

The aim of this paper is to describe a genre that is gaining importance in contemporary humanities, and especially in its areas devoted to digital media – the technical report. Technical reports are discussed as part of the larger trend of open notebook science. This form of communication draws from experiences worked out in the field of technology, computer science and science. In this understanding technical reports are a genre of gray literature, a form dedicated to communicating results of research projects conducted by laboratories. The case study discussed in this text is devoted to a series of technical reports from the MIT Trope Tank lab, which are interpreted in the light of a manifestotext for this form of communication, Beyond the Journal and the Blog. The Technical Report for Communication in the Humanities, published by Nick Montfort. One of the aims of the article is also to contextualize technical reports against the background of other forms and methods of communication in laboratories from the field of contemporary humanities (including blogs, brochures, lab notebooks).

W artykule przedstawiono problemy z przechowywaniem danych cyfrowych w bibliotekach, które są nie tylko nabywcami danych, ale i ich wytwórcami. Przybliżono wybrane światowe i polskie projekty bezpiecznej i długoterminowej archiwizacji. Zwrócono uwagę na konieczność wypracowania ogólnopolskiej strategii i procedur właściwego przechowywania i zarządzania cyfrowymi zasobami, aby zapewnić im długoterminową użyteczność oraz znacząco obniżyć koszty wieczystej archiwizacji.
The paper presents problems with the storage of digital data in libraries, which are not only the data buyers nowadays, but data manufacturers as well. Selected Polish and international projects on secure long-term archiving are discussed. The authors emphasize the need of developing national strategies and procedures for the appropriate storage environment and digital asset management to ensure the long-term accessibility and usability for the spiraling amounts of digital data and to significantly reduce long-term archiving costs.

In the article we present the stages of building of Polish digital libraries infrastructure and the role of local and regional digital resources at the national and European level. The first chapter presents the most important issues related to online access of cultural heritage. In the second chapter we present crucial stages of the development of the Polish digital libraries network. Third chapter presents the idea and mission of the Digital Libraries Federation. The fourth chapter describes Polish digital libraries in the European context, focusing on matters related to local and regional digital resources and its location in the Europeana information space. The last chapter acts as a summary.

Artykuł prezentuje interdyscyplinarną perspektywę metod uwierzytelniania stosowanych we współczesnej gospodarce elektronicznej. Prezentowane są aspekty informatyczne kryminalistyczne prawne a także etyczne związane z systemami uwierzytelniania ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem metod biometrycznych. Analizowane są systemy uwierzytelniania wykorzystujące różne charakterystyki biometryczne. Zaakcentowany został także wymiar kryptograficzny metod uwierzytelniania oraz istotne problemy zarządzania tożsamością cyfrową. Podajemy szereg przypadków użycia analizując dokładniej system paszportu biometrycznego i rozwiązanie stosowane aktualnie w Polsce.
The article presents the interdisciplinary perspective of authentication methods in the context of the current ecommerce development. The presented aspects deal with such domains as computer science, forensic science, legal science, biometry, ethics and cryptography. The authentication systems based on the various biometric characteristics are investigated. The cryptographic approach related to the management of the digital identity is presented. As a case study we consider the system of biometric passport used currently in Poland.

The aim of the article is to present the method of sharing and promoting the manuscript collections on the example of the 18th-century manuscript of Christian Gabriel Fischer available in the Pomeranian Digital Library (PDL). This manuscript inspired the Library of the Gdańsk University of Technology and the Institute of City Culture in Gdańsk to cooperate on a project promoting. Thanks to the joint initiative, work on the transcription of the German text written in „Kurrent” script was started and a number of events were organized to popularize both the manuscript’s content and the 18th-century calligraphy among contemporary audience. The authors used statistical information on the number of pageviews of the manuscript and the number of visits in the period from the launch of the PDL platform until May 31, 2021. In order to illustrate how popular and useful the organized events were, the authors presented the data collected by the Institute of City Culture monitoring the number of the participants of the events. The statistical data was supplemented with an analysis of the literature on the promotion of cultural heritage collections.

This article explores a recently discovered phenomenon in the digital landscape, labeled as “zeroculturality.” Unveiled through the author’s recent research in the realms of politics, culture, and communication, zeroculturality represents a transformative shift where cultural boundaries are not only spontaneously vanishing but are also intentionally obliterated. Individuals embodying zeroculturality consciously reject conventional cultural norms while preserving specific values, adapting their identity to synchronize with the dynamic demands of time and place. Essentially, these individuals may discard certain cultural behaviors while retaining the fundamental values associated with them. While not yet pervasive, zeroculturality merits significant consideration, particularly for entities striving to effectively communicate, manage relationships, and disseminate information. Traditional approaches in persuasive communication, grounded in demographics, psychosocial factors, or values, may be losing efficacy. The author’s research on zeroculturality aims to have a practical impact by offering insights that can guide effective communication, business strategies, and political decision-making in the digital age. The article provides a nuanced understanding of how individuals embracing zeroculturality navigate cultural boundaries, offering practical solutions for communicators to engage effectively with this audience. In the business sphere, the research seeks to inform marketers on tailoring strategies to the unique purchasing behaviors of those embodying zeroculturality. Additionally, the author hopes policymakers will leverage these insights to make informed decisions on societal values in the face of evolving cultural norms. Ultimately, the research aims to bridge the gap between academic understanding and practical application, empowering professionals across various sectors to navigate the challenges posed by zeroculturality in the digital era.
Badania, które autorka prowadziła przez ostatnie lata w przestrzeni cyfrowej, pozwoliły jej zidentyfikować nowe zjawisko zarysowujące się na pograniczu świata polityki, kultury i komunikacji. „Zerokulturowość” – jak je nazwała – zasadza się na przekonaniu, iż granice między kulturami nie tylko coraz częściej spontanicznie zanikają, ale także są bardzo świadomie usuwane. Jednostka, nieidentyfikująca się z emanacjami kultury, ale nadal czująca przywiązanie do określonych wartości, próbuje kształtować swoją tożsamość w taki sposób, aby odpowiadała wymogom czasu i miejsca. Innymi słowy, osoby zerokulturowe mogą odmawiać przyjęcia określonych sposobów postępowania (nośników kultury), ale wciąż podzielać wybrane idee czy wartości, z którymi związane były te wzorce. Choć zjawisko bez wątpienia nie jest powszechne, zasługuje na poważną analizę, szczególnie przez te podmioty, które pragną skutecznie komunikować się z odbiorcami, zarządzać relacjami oraz informacją. Dotychczasowe czynniki skuteczności dialogu perswazyjnego, zasadzające się na próbach targetowania na podstawie podstawowych kryteriów demograficznych, psychospołecznych czy argumencie wartości, mogą bowiem wykazywać się coraz mniejszą efektywnością. Niniejszy artykuł ma na celu dostarczenie praktycznych wskazówek pozwalających na usprawnienie procesów komunikacyjnych, strategii biznesowych oraz mechanizmów decyzyjnych w erze cyfrowej. Tekst wyjaśnia, w jaki sposób osoby manifestujące zerokulturowość przekraczają tradycyjne granice kulturowe oraz jak zjawisko to może wpływać na różnorodne procesy w przestrzeni publicznej. W obszarze biznesowym wiedza ta może się okazać cenna dla marketerów, pomagając im w adaptacji strategii zakupowych do wyzwań wynikających z zerokulturowości. W sferze politycznej decydenci mogą wykorzystać ją z kolei do podejmowania bardziej świadomych decyzji, szczególnie tych dotyczących systemu wartości w kontekście zmieniających się norm kulturowych.

Ogromną rolę w udostępnianiu zasobów kultury za pośrednictwem mediów cyfrowych odgrywają biblioteki cyfrowe. Takie jednostki posiada prawie każda znacząca instytucja kulturalna w Polsce i na świecie. Zgodnie ze swoim podstawowym celem, czyli ochroną i zabezpieczaniem dziedzictwa narodowego, stanowią one platformę dostępu do zdigitalizowanych treści dla wszystkich użytkowników, w tym studentów. Uczelniane biblioteki cyfrowe są ponadto ważnym organem promującym w sieci naukowy dorobek swoich pracowników. Na ich kształt i profil funkcjonowania wpływają, oprócz czynników formalnych, takich jak struktura informatyczno‑technologiczna czy czynniki prawne, także współpraca m.in. z jednostkami uczelni macierzystych – bibliotekami naukowymi. Na przykładzie Pedagogicznej Biblioteki Cyfrowej Uniwersytetu Pedagogicznego w Krakowie (unikatowego w Polsce typu dziedzinowej biblioteki cyfrowej) zaprezentowana zostanie rola i działalność biblioteki cyfrowej w tworzeniu wirtualnej platformy dydaktycznej, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem promocji przez PBC dorobku naukowego swoich pracowników (wystawy internetowe, materiały pokonferencyjne), a także kontaktów międzynarodowych (kontakty z Biblioteką Publiczną Atatürk Kitaplığı, Stambuł, Turcja).
Digital libraries have a huge role in sharing cultural resources. Digital departments are almost in every significant cultural institution in Poland. All of them have the same primary objective, namely protection and securing the national heritage and serve as an access platform for digitized content for all users, including students. Academic Digital Libraries are also an important tool of promoting the achievements of their employees inside scientific community. Their overall shape and effectiveness is affected by in addition to formal factors such as IT infrastructure, and legal factors, cooperation with University units – institutes, research libraries. Pedagogical Digital Library of Pedagogical University of Cracow was used as an example to present the role and and activities of scientific libraries in creating virtual didactic platform, with particular emphasis on the promotion by PBC’s scientific achievements of its employees (exhibition websites, conference materials), as well as international contacts (contacts with Kitaplığı Atatürk Public Library, Istanbul, Turkey).
