Opis:
Phase retrieval and phase unwrapping are the two important problems for enabling quantitative phase imaging of cells in phase-shifting digital holography. To simultaneously cope with these two problems, a deep-learning phase-shifting digital holography method is proposed in this paper. The proposed method can establish the continuous mapping function of the interferogram to the ground-truth phase using the end-to-end convolutional neural network. With a well-trained deep convolutional neural network, this method can retrieve the phase from one-frame blindly phase-shifted interferogram, without phase unwrapping. The feasibility and applicability of the proposed method are verified by the simulation experiments of the microsphere and white blood cells, respectively. This method will pave the way to the quantitative phase imaging of biological cells with complex substructures.

Opis:
We present a new dual-wavelength quantitative measurement approach that can be employed for simultaneously measuring both the refractive index and the thickness of the homogenous specimen. This method is realized by dual-wavelength in-line phase-shifting digital holography, and then the phase images are obtained by using four-phase step algorithm for each wavelength separately. Based on computer simulation technology, the feasibility and the effectiveness of our proposed method are demonstrated by comparing our simulation results with the experimental results of the spherical silica bead and the red blood cell, respectively. Our work will provide some guidance in the experimental research for transparent phase objects.

Opis:
A fast phase reconstruction method (FPRM) employing a free-sample hologram can improve the efficiency of phase reconstruction in off-axis digital holography. However, the space-bandwidth product is still confined by spectrum aliasing in the hologram owing to the zero-order term. In this paper, we propose an FPRM that features an efficient zero-order term suppression method called the average gray that can eliminate spectrum shifting. We can implement phase reconstruction by considering both speed and the space-bandwidth product. We verified the validity of our approach for off-axis digital holography using laser and white-light illumination.

Opis:
Spatial light modulators (SLM) are devices used to modulate amplitude, phase or polarization of a light wave in space and time. Current SLMs are based either on MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical system) or LCD (liquid crystal display) technology. Here we report on the parameters, trends in development and applications of phase SLMs based on liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) technology. LCoS technology was developed for front and rear projection systems competing with AMLCD (active matrix LCD) and DMD (Digital Mirror Device) SLM. The reflective arrangement due to silicon backplane allows to put a high number of pixels in a small panel, keeping the fill-factor ratio high even for micron-sized pixels. For coherent photonics applications the most important type of LCoS SLM is a phase modulator. In the paper at first we describe the typical parameters of this device and the methods for its calibration. Later we present a review of applications of phase LCoS SLMs in imaging, metrology and beam manipulation, developed by the authors as well as known from the literature. These include active and adaptive interferometers, a smart holographic camera and holographic display, microscopy modified in illuminating and imaging paths and active sensors.

Opis:
In this paper, we describe an effective approach to suppressing zero-order term and twin image by using pixel-by-pixel multiplication of double holograms in digital off-axis holography. This method records two holograms, respectively, by using the reference waves in different directions. It shows not only a simpler algorithm and easier implementation in experiment, but also exact and complete suppression of the zero-order term and twin image without any spectrum loss of the object in the image reconstruction, particularly when the image and the zero-order term are fairly close to each other. The experimental result approves of the theoretical prediction very well. This approach provides an effective solution to suppressing undesired noises in the digital off-axis holography.
