Opis:
The shaping of structural elements of flexible discs formed from synthetic diamond powders on synthetic binders is one of the current problems facing researchers when creating new, highly effective machining tools for the processing of mineral materials. Over many years, natural stone and particularly hard types of rock have been used for and still remain a noble, durable and highly appreciated building material for facings. Meeting the normative requirements for shaping functional properties in automated technology systems for processing such materials requires the development of methods for modeling new construction and material solutions for machining tools, especially with the use of diamond abrasives, which are increasingly used in construction technologies. One requirement is to study the influence of the geometrical form of the abrasive segments of flexible machining discs in order to increase the efficiency of the process of finishing granite surface grinding.
Kształtowanie elementów konstrukcyjnych elastycznych tarcz formowanych z syntetycznych proszków diamentowych na spoiwach syntetycznych stanowi jeden z aktualnych problemów w zakresie badań nad tworzeniem nowych wysoko efektywnych narzędzi obróbczych do obróbki materiałów mineralnych. Kamień naturalny, szczególnie twarde rodzaje skał, od lat były i nadal pozostają szlachetnym trwałym i wysoko docenianym materiałem budowlanym, stosowanym jako materiał okładzinowy. Spełnienie normatywnych wymagań w zakresie kształtowania właściwości użytkowych w zautomatyzowanych systemach technologii obróbki takich materiałów wymaga opracowania sposobów modelowania nowych rozwiązań konstrukcyjno-materiałowych narzędzi obróbczych szczególnie z wykorzystaniem ścierniwa diamentowe go, które w technologiach budowlanych znajdują coraz większe zastosowanie. Jednym z nich jest zbadanie wpływu formy geometrycznej segmentów ściernych elastycznych tarcz obróbczych w celu zwiększenia efektywności procesu szlifowania wykończeniowego powierzchni płyt granitowych.

Opis:
This article discusses results of an analysis of mechanical properties of a sintered material obtained from a mixture of elemental iron, copper and nickel powders ball milled for 60 hours. The powder consolidation was performed by hot pressing in a graphite mould. The hot pressing was carried out for 3 minutes at 900 °C and under a pressure of 35 MPa. The sintered specimens were tested for density, porosity, hardness and tensile strength. Their microstructures and fracture surfaces were also examined using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The study was conducted in order to determine the suitability of the sintered material for the manufacture of metal-bonded diamond tools. It was important to assess the effects of chemical composition and microstructure of the sintered material on its mechanical properties, which were compared with those of conventional metal bond material produced from a hot-pressed SMS grade cobalt powder. Although the studied material shows slightly lower strength and ductility as compared with cobalt, its hardness and offset yield strength are sufficiently high to meet the criteria for less demanding applications.

Opis:
This paper discusses the mechanical properties of materials fabricated from commercially available powders designed for use as a metal matrix of diamond-impregnated composites. The powders with the catalogue numbers CSA and CSA800 produced in China were tested under laboratory conditions. The specimens were fabricated in a graphite mould using hot pressing. The materials were analysed for density, porosity, hardness and static tensile strength. A scanning electron microscope (SEM) was employed to observe the microstructure and fracture surfaces of the specimens. The experimental data was used to determine how the chemical composition of the powders and the process parameters affected the microstructure and properties of the materials. The properties of the sintered materials produced from the Chinese powders were compared with the properties reported for specimens fabricated from cobalt powder (Co SMS). Even though the hot pressed CSA and CSA800 powders had inferior mechanical properties to their cobalt analogue, they seem well-suited for general-purpose diamond-impregnated tools with less demanding applications.

Opis:
The technical level of the stone processing tools corresponds to the level of advanced technology of processing stone pieces of a specific degree of hardness. The analysis of historical building objects, e.g. in Ancient Egypt, informs and allows to put forward a hypothesis about the tools used at that time and the advancement of machining technology from the period from 3000 BC, where the small natural grains of the diamond, called amadeus, were used as an abrasive. The historical periods describing the diamond, as a raw material for the production of machining tools, proved that the degree of development of human civilization and the possibility of technical development of many branches of economic life in the whole world is determined by the determinant of machining tools. The study presents the genesis of the development of machining tools with placing and verifying the hypothesis about the production of diamond segments during the construction of the pyramids in Giza, with the 19th and 20th century development of diamond tools. The hypothesis put forward results from the conducted research studies analyzing the behavior of diamond grain in a metallic-tin bond.
Poziom techniczny narzędzi do obróbki kamienia odpowiada poziomowi zaawansowanej technologii prażenia kawałków kamienia o określonym stopniu twardości. W pracy przedstawiono genezę rozwoju narzędzi do obróbki skrawaniem wraz z postawieniem i weryfikacją hipotezy o produkcji segmentów diamentowych podczas budowy piramid w Gizie. Hipoteza ta wynika z przeprowadzonych badań, analizujących zachowanie się ziarna diamentu w wiązaniu metal-cyna.

The possibility of the use of inexpensive iron-base powders in the production of sintered diamond tools is again explored. Ball-milled Fe-Ni-Cu-Sn-C and Fe-Mn-Cu-Sn-C powders were consolidated to a virtually pore-free condition by hot pressing at 900°C. The resultant materials are characterised by a combination of high Knoop hardness, 260-440 and yield strength, 780-1350 MPa, and resistance to abrasion. These properties can be significantly modified by changing the milling time.

Opis:
Phase change materials (PCMs) are widely used in numerous engineering fields because of their good heat storage properties and high latent heat of fusion. However, a big group of them has low thermal conductivity and diffusivity, which poses a problem when it comes to effective and relatively fast heat transfer and accumulation. Therefore, their use is limited to systems that do not need to be heated or cooled rapidly. That is why they are used as thermal energy storage systems in both large scale in power plants and smaller scale in residential facilities. Although, if PCMs are meant to play an important role in electronics cooling, heat dissipation, or temperature stabilization in places where the access to cooling water is limited, such as electric automotive industry or hybrid aviation, a number of modifications and improvements needs to be introduced. Investigation whether additional materials of better thermal properties will affect the thermal properties of PCM is therefore of a big interest. An example of such material is diamond powder, which is a popular additive used in abradants. Its thermal diffusivity and conductivity is significantly higher than for a pure PCM. The article presents the results of an analysis of the effect of diamond powder on thermal conductivity and diffusivity of phase change materials in the case of octadecane.

Opis:
The purpose of this work was to examine the effect of diamond powder on the thermal properties of phase change materials on the example of octadecane. The experiment involved mixing of diamond powder with a specific granulation with the aforementioned representative of the alkanes group. Two different grain sizes were used: 50 and 250 micrometres. The change of specific heat, latent heat of phase change and degree of supercoiling in newly formed mixtures was compared to the pure forms of the phase-change materials used. Initial mixing with a glass-stirring rod showed strong stratification for each granulation due to the low viscosity of the mixture and too large differences between component densities. It was decided to add amorphous silicon dioxide to the mixtures, which increases density of the mixture. The optimal percentage of amorphous silicon dioxide was estimated experimentally. Measurements of thermal parameters were carried out using DSC technology. The results of the tests of specific heat and latent phase transition heat showed that with the increasing content of diamond, the specific heat of the mixture decreases almost twice, and the latent heat can decrease by up to three times. The effect of diamond powder on reducing the degree of supercoiling of the mixture was also observed. An important observation was that the mixture with higher granulation of diamond powder had greater tendency for sedimentation. This method could be used to increase thermal conductivity and diffusivity of phase change materials and make them viable for use in systems that require cooling at high rate or temperature stabilization, such as control systems in electronic vehicles or aviation industry and at the same time decrease the degree of supercoiling which could increase the efficiency of system.

In this study, the powder mixture which consists of Cu-Fe-Co was produced by using the method of hot pressing technique. In addition, effect of heat treatment process on microstructure and mechanical properties of this alloy was investigated. Following the hot pressing process applied on the samples, heat treatment was carried out at 950°C for two different dwelling times (90 and 180 minutes). Measured density values were considered as physical characteristics, while hardness and fracture strength values were considered as mechanical characteristics. It was observed that porosity rates of hot pressed samples were decreased by increasing of temperature and pressing parameters. In this study it was observed that Cu was spread in matrix and filled the micro porosities. Hardness values were determined to be decreased as a result of grain growth after heat treatment process. That 4 fold increased elongation % values which were achieved by TRS experiments were observed as well.
